Mary Patricia "Pat" Smallwood, 70, of Jefferson City, formerly of St. James, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the Capitol Region Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 7, 1937, in Old Monroe, to the late Norbert "Chip" Burkemper and Norma D. Cluny Burkemper.
She is survived by her mother, Nor, of Lake Saint Louis; brothers Tom Burkemper and wife, Ellen, Troy, Mick Burkemper and wife, Donna, Moscow Mills, Phil Burkemper and wife, Karen, Wentzville; children, Dan Fester and wife, Rita, Jefferson City, Joe Fester and wife, Jane, Tomball, TX, John Fester and wife, Tommie, of Steelville, Mike Fester, of Columbia, Sarah Fester Auxier, of St. James; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; friend and companion Ron Williams, of Jefferson City and many beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard B. "Dick" Smallwood; her father, Chip Burkemper; sister, Monica Burkemper and infant son, Edward.
Pat was raised on a dairy farm near Old Monroe and attended grade school at Immaculate Conception Catholic grade school. She graduated from Assumption High School in O'Fallon at the age of 15. She was too young to be admitted to college so she worked until she was accepted To St. Louis University. She did not finish her studies at St. Louis University because of starting her family but completed her degree in Sociology at Lincoln University in Jefferson City in 1994.
Smallwood worked for Carnahan Realty in Rolla for many years. On June 21, 1975, she was united in marriage to Richard B "Dick" Smallwood of St. James where she and Dick owned and operated Smallwood Real Estate for many years. Pat was active in Democratic politics in the Phelps County area, getting chosen to be a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1976.
Visitation was held at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral was conducted on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Catholic Cemetery in St. James.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Norma Elnora Norton Zalabak, 83, of Hawk Point, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Troy Manor.
She was born December 13, 1924 in Millwood, to Robert Lee Norton and Nellie Ann Donley.
Norma attended the Duff Grade School and graduated from Buchanan High School in Troy in 1943. On June 19, 1943, she was married to Joe Zalabak of Hawk Point in the St. Alphonsus Church in Millwood. They established their home north of Hawk Point where they continued to live. Joe passed away on April 5, 1976. After he passed, Norma went to work at the Lincoln County Egg Company and later was a cook at different restaurants in Troy and Hawk Point.
She had been a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the St. Mary's Altar Sodality since 1943. She was also a member of the Hawk Point Community Quilters for many years. She was happiest with a needle and thread or a rosary in her hands. She made many quilts and potholders which she shared with family and friends.
She is survived by her sons: Alvin Zalabak and wife, Molly, Chuck Zalabak and wife, Linda and Larry Zalabak and wife, Lisa, all of Hawk Point; two brothers, Ralph Norton and wife, Sue, and Danny Norton and wife, Sally, both of Silex; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Norton, of Silex; four grandchildren, Danny Snipes, Alvin Lee Zalabak, Angela Zalabak and Rebecca Zalabak, all of Hawk Point and many nieces, nephews and many many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and several siblings.
Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the Kemper-Marsh-Millard Family Funeral Home/Hawk Point Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Hawk Point Chapel. Fr. Frank Koeninger officiating. Interment was held in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hawk Point.
Memorials may be made to Earthwise Industries or to St. Mary's Masses in care of Kemper-Marsh-Millard Family Funeral Chapel.

Keith Edward Proffitt, 49, of Moscow Mills, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lake Saint Louis.
He was born on September 30, 1958, to William Cleo and Joyce Lee (Edgar) Proffitt in Troy. Keith attended the local schools along with his five siblings: Louis, Thomas, Billy, Ricky and Debra. For the past 27 years, he has been joined in matrimony with his beloved wife, Alyce. Some of his hobbies included, boating and fishing. He loved to take the family on spontaneous road trips; they just named the location and Keith was behind the wheel driving. Being able to make repairs on almost anything gained him the reputation of "Mr. Fix-it". Neighbors and friends came to rely on his terrific mechanical ability - there was nothing he could not fix. Keith was a very generous man - he would give you his shirt if you needed it more than he did.
Surviving are his loving family: his beloved wife, Alyce Proffitt, of Moscow Mills; his daughter, Sabrina (Michael) Spradling; his son, Donald Charles (Amy) Warner, of Moscow Mills; his four brothers, Louis Proffitt, of Belleville, Il, Thomas (Diane) Proffitt, of Modesta, CA, Billy (Candy) Proffitt, of Vacaville, CA, Ricky (Shelly) Proffitt, of Troy and his sister, Debra Proffitt, of Corna, CA; his three grandchildren, Dakota Joyce Warner, Desarae Alyce Starr Spradling and Cody Robert Gordon Spradling; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 6, 2008, at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home, 1304 Boone St., Troy. Officiating will be Rev. Milton Schaper. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6, 2008, from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Proffitt Family, c/o McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home, 1304 Boone St., Troy, MO. 63379.

A Memorial Service for James William Seats, 42, of Foley, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at the Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. J. Larry Carter will officiate.
Mr. Seats passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008, near Foley.
Born December 11, 1965, in St. Louis, he was the son of James Carroll and Edith Rosemary Lee Seats. He was united in marriage to Pam Renee Cates.
Seats was employed several years as an over the road truck driver.
Survivors include his fiance' Sheila Cisco, of Foley; four sons, Christopher Seats, of Winfield, Cody Seats, Joseph Seats, and Jared Seats, all of Belleville, Ill.; two stepchildren, Michael Lee Hilsher and Bridgette Elaine Dodson, of Foley; and three grandchildren, Hayden Elizabeth Seats, Hailey Grace Seats and Savannah Riley Dodson. He also leave his father, James Carroll Seats, of Belleville, Ill.; his mother, Edith Brown and her husband, Ron, of Caseyville, Ill.; one brother, Samuel Ray Seats, of Foley; one sister, Tracey Seats, of Florida; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday, June 7, 2008, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of: Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, 107 South Fifth St., Elsberry, MO 63343.

Mr. Ray O. Davis, 74, Troy, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy. He was born August 2, 1933 to Howard and Arabella (Nickelson) Davis. Davis, a farm boy from Hatton, had his last year to harvest his life of 74 years. The year brought in a bumper crop of prayers, cards, phone calls, e-mails, visitors and nation-wide supporters. Ray married Sharon Fike on November 24, 1955 in Hatton. They were blessed with two daughters: Kelly and Kristen. Kelly and Andy Williams have two children, Amy and Carter Davis, and live in Ft. Collins, Colo. Kristen and Gene Smith and children, Haley and Blaine, live in Springfield, Mo. Ray's sister, Jalie and Woodrow Boulware of Hatton; sister-in-law: Dorliss and Richard Jones of Hannibal; brothers-in-law: Denny Fike, Riverton, Wyo., Randy and Mary Jo Fike, Kearney, Neb.; several nieces, nephews and many cousins scattered over the land. Ray graduated from Fulton High School in 1951, University of Missouri 1955 with a BS; 1964, Masters. He entered the military service in 1955, being assigned to an artillery unit serving in Ulm, Germany during 1956 and 1957. He was employed by the University of Missouri Extension Service from 1958-1990. He made Troy his home, and brought his love of the land and knowledge along to Lincoln County farmers, making many friends along the way. He was dearly loved by his family and will be missed by many. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Troy. Officiating will be Rev. Paul Garven. Interment will follow Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Hatton. Mo. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008 from 3-8 p.m. at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home, 1304 Boone St, Troy, MO 63379. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the American Cancer Society- Relay for Life.

A Funeral Mass for Madeline Emge, 89, of O'Fallon, was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Wentzville. Interment followed iin the St. Paul Cemetery in St. Paul.
Mrs. Emge died May 22, 2008, at Delmar Gardens in O'Fallon.
Born March 26, 1919, in St. Paul, she was the daughter of the late Herbert C. and Mabel Mueller (nee Grabenhorst).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Emge; one brother, Ralph Mueller; and two sisters, Adele Haislip and Alice Kopp.
Survivors include one son, Berry (Joan) Emge, of Polaris, MT; one daughter, Beverly (Frank) Eggering, of Lake Saint Louis; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Emge worked as a sales clerk for Dillard's.
Visitation was held from 9-11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at the church.

Ethel E. Ransdell, 97, of Troy, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at the Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy.
The daughter of James Haden and Delphia Gladney Raney, she was born Oct. 16, 1910 on the family farm. With the exceptions of short periods in Winfield and Hannibal, she spent her entire life on the farm.
At 18, she graduated from Buchanan High School and started teaching at Britt School in September. She spent 13 years teaching in rural country schools. During the years, she received her teaching certificates by passing teachers' exams. When she decided to get her degree, she had to do it the hard way. Summer school and night classes led to a B.S. degree in education from Washington University in 1960.
Ethel was a charter member of the Lincoln Retired Teachers Association and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She also served as a 4-H project and community leader. In her early teaching years, she coached girls' basketball and later served as a cheerleader and pep club sponsor. She was an avid basketball fan. She loved to travel and had trips planned for this summer.
She was united in marriage on January 22, 1933, to Clarence Tilden Ransdell, of Hannibal. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Gay (Dan) Reed and son, James Tilden (Jill) Ransdell, all of Troy; grandchildren, Jeffery D. (Jessica) Reed, of Triangle, VA, Brett Haden (Jamie) Reed, Wade Colby (special friend Amanda) Ransdell, Wyatt James Ransdell and honorary granddaughter, Amy Beth Neusus, all of Troy; great-grandchildren, Hunter Landen Reed, of Troy and Isabella Arlene and Victoria Elizabeth Reed, of Virginia; nephews, James Hussey, West Covina, CA, Doug Raney (Lena) and Eric Raney (Tina) of Virginia and special niece, Patty (Tom) Cacchione, of California; special friends, Jack and Tina Neusus, of Troy.
Funeral services for Ethel Ransdell will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2008 at the McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home in Troy. Interment followed in the Troy City Cemetery in Troy.
Visitation was held from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Jim Coad at World Witness or LaBrae Indian School in care of McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home, 1304 Boone Street, Troy, MO 63379.

Jean Luckett, 82, of Silex, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at her residence. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
She was born December 9, 1925, in St. Louis, the daughter of Howard Park and Louaddie Jane Harmon Middleswartz.
She was raised in Silex and graduated from Silex High School in 1943. On February 2, 1952, in Elsberry, she married Bill Luckett and he preceded her in death in July of 1965. Following her marriage, she moved to Wichita, KS where she lived for several years and returned to Silex in 1964. She worked at her parent's restaurant, Jane's Cafe‚ in Silex for many years. She had also been employed at the Rosedale Nursing Home (Silex Community Care) where she worked in medical records and assisted with the activities. Survivors include one son, Warren Luckett, of Foley; one daughter, Lynne Luckett, of Silex; two grandchildren, Billy Luckett and Cary Luckett; and one great granddaughter, Sebrina Luckett.
Memorials may be made to the Lincoln County Medical Center or the Community Loving Care Hospice.
The Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Silex is in charge of the arrangements.
