M. Gail Morrison Edwards

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- M. Gail Morrison Edwards, 57, of Warrensburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at her home.
She was born Jan. 5, 1954, in Hammond, Ind., the daughter of Hazel V. Johnson Morrison.
She married James Edwards in Warrensburg, June 10, 2006. He preceded her in death Feb. 2, 2009.
Gail was a 1971 graduate of Rockford High School. She moved to the Warrensburg area in 1973. She later attended and received her cosmetology license from Warrensburg Area Vo-Tech School in 1981, and worked as a beautician for the next 30 years. Gail was Baptist by faith, and was an avid animal lover.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel McConnell and Timothy McConnell and his companion Heather; two daughters, Carrie Goodwin and husband Bradrick, Laura Campbell, all of Warrensburg and Knob Noster; her mother, Hazel V. Johnson Morrison of Moraga, Calif.; one brother, Anthony Greg Payton of San Francisco.; and her companion, Norman Thomas Garcia of Warrensburg. She was also the proud grandmother of four grandsons, five granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews.
Gail was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Gary Morrison.
Her funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, with Chaplain Erich Kurz officiating.
Pallbearers will be Timothy McConnell, Daniel McConnell, Bradrick Goodwin, Andy Sharp, Wyatt Campbell and Jason Morrison.
Burial will be at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 20, 2011, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroads Hospice and can be left at the funeral home.

Virgil Lewis Sisk, Sr.

HOLDEN, Mo. -- Virgil Lewis Sisk Sr., 89, of Holden, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO
He was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Holden, the son of Willie R. and Anna May (Withers) Sisk. He graduated from Holden High School in 1941.
Virgil was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and fought in the battles of Central Europe, Ardennes, and Rhineland. Following the war, he married Mary Jo Wyatt in 1947. She preceded him in death April 6, 1999.
Mr. Sisk was a farmer and worked for Bendix Corporation in Kansas City for 26 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Surviving his passing are five sons, Jimmy Dwayne Sisk, Cleveland, Mo., Lloyd F. Sisk, Kingsville, Mo., Virgil L. Sisk Jr., of Holden, Glenn Sisk, of Holden, and William R. Sisk, of Holden; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home, Holden. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Military Honors will be preformed at the funeral home. Cremation will follow.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Missouri Boys Home.

James Lee Moore

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- James Lee Moore, 77, of Jamesport, Mo., formerly of Urich, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at North Village Park Center in Moberly.
James was born Jan. 21, 1934, in Kansas City, Mo., son of Thomas L. and Lucille C. (Hamilton) Elder. He was raised in Missouri, but lived in California for a brief time prior to serving in the U.S.Army as a paratrooper.
Following military service, he lived in Maryland for several years. James eventually returned to Missouri, residing in Urich and more recently, Jamesport. While in Jamesport, he transported members of the Amish community. He was a welder with Boilermaker Local, #83.
Survivors include three sons; several grandchildren; two brothers: Thomas Elder and wife, Jamie of Liberty, Mo.; and Larry “"Butch"” Elder and wife, Arlene of Osceola, Mo., a sister-in-law, Yvonne Elder of Warrensburg, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by both parents and a brother, Robert Elder. Following cremation, there will be a private interment in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg at a later date. Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Irene (Smith) Stanke

WARRENSBURG, Mo.--Shirley Irene Stanke, 78, a Warrensburg resident of 30 years, died Nov. 14, 2011.
Born in Detroit Jan. 17, 1933, Shirley always led a very active life. Being the eldest of her six siblings, she found a way to shine by becoming a cheerleader. This is how she caught the eye of her husband of 58 years, Douglas Stanke.
The couple has lived in Warrensburg for the last 30 years, where Shirley has served her community and church in many ways, including being the secretary for the Johnson County United Way and secretary for the Church of Jesus Christ Warrensburg Restoration Branch.
Shirley has always had an attitude of service, from leading an active 4-H group while in Michigan to filling a need by publishing a variety of pony and cattle magazines. Although always busy with her many supporting roles, the number one love of her life was her family. She always was there to help with the raising and showing of both Hackney ponies, Polled Hereford Cattle, and supporting the many activities of her grandchildren. She loved to travel and took many opportunities to take memory-making trips with the family.
Through the years, Shirley demonstrated her love for the Lord by singing in church services, baking communion bread, and acting as the publisher of the area newsletter, as well as many other activities. Shirley started her work career in a publishing firm, where she grew to excel in the business field. She retired from IBM, where she started as a secretary and trained up to a technical service representative.
She is survived by her husband, Doug Stanke, and three children: Denise and Randy Van Eaton; Gary and Claudia Stanke of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Janet and Don Mulvaney of Opelika, Ala.; as well as four grandchildren: Joshua Eedy and Katlin; Cameron and Chandler Mulvaney.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant son, Donald Bruce.
A celebration of Shirley's life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at the Church of Jesus Christ Warrensburg Restoration Branch on Highway 50. Arrangements made by Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.

Jill Yvonne Harden Younce

KNOB NOSTER, Mo. -- Jill Yvonne Harden Younce, 48, of Knob Noster, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at her residence.
She was born July 15, 1963, in Sacramento, Calif., the daughter of Robert Ray and Margaret (McClanahan) Harden.

L. Len Gregg

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- L. Len Gregg, 88, of Warrensburg, ded Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at Western Missouri Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 13, 1923, in Lone Jack, Mo., the son of Luther L. and Flora (Burns) Gregg II.
On Aug. 14, 1949, he married Eleanor Louise Gregg in Warrensburg.
Len was a 1941 graduate of Centerview High School. He was a freshman at Central Missouri State University when Pearl Harbor was bombed on Dec. 7, 1941. He promptly quit school and joined the U.S. Army Air Force.
Len trained and flew B-17 bombers during World War II and was shot down three times over Germany in 12 missions. On his third mission, he was shot down but escaped capture. However, he was shot down again on his 12th mission and captured, and became a prisoner of war at Stalaag 7A in Germany. Then in 1945, Len’s prayers were answered when Gen. George Patton and his army freed the POW’s of Stalaag 7A.
Len stated that one of the most beautiful sights he ever saw was American soldiers ripping down the swastika from their camp and raising the American flag in its place.
Len stated, “People don’t realize what they have under our flag, until they lose it for a while.”
After the war, Len attended and graduated from Central Missouri State University, receiving both bachelor's and master's degrees in education. He later received a doctorate in education from the University of Kansas.
He was a former principal of Warrensburg College Laboratory School, taught education classes at Central Missouri State University, and was a supervisor over student teachers until his retirement.
Len was a past president of Warrensburg Noon Rotary, a Paul Harris Fellow, and past district governor of Rotary International.
Len was a member of the Warrensburg Elks Club #673, and a past Exalted Ruler. He was a member of the Warrensburg Masonic Temple #265. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Warrensburg and also served as deacon. He was a member of the Sedalia POW Chapter.
L. Len Gregg is survived by his wife Louise; two daughters, Bethene Gregg of Roeland Park, Kan.; and Janis Gregg and husband Roger Dickson of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Louise Mayfield of Warrensburg; and Doris Scott and husband Keith of Springfield, Mo.; one nephew, Jared Scott of Springfield, Mo.; and one niece Mary Ann Pratt of Lee’s Summit, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Warrensburg, with The Rev. Don Wilson officiating.
Burial will be at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors provided by Whiteman Air Force Base Color Guard.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg and can be left at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.

Walter 'Hayes' Feldman

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- Walter "Hayes" Feldman, 41, of Centerview died Jan. 25, 2012, at his home.
Hayes was born Dec. 10, 1970, in Sedalia. Hayes attended Crest Ridge High School and worked in the construction business all of his adult life.
Hayes was deeply devoted to his children. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he shared his skills with his children, nieces, nephews and friends. He once put a kite on the end of a fishing pole and it went high up in the sky; he then gave to his nieces and nephews to reel in. Hayes was just learning the game of golf and enjoying the game. He loved to spend time with friends and family.
Hayes is survived by his parents, Ted R. and Jayne Feldman of Holden; his children, Jacob Hayes Feldman of Centerview; Judd Walter Ward-Feldman of Warrensburg; and stepson Joe Ward of Warrensburg; his brothers, Rex Feldman and wife Susan of Kansas City; David Feldman and wife Jill of Centerview; sisters, Sheria Yancey and husband Jesse of St. Clair, Mo.; Ardith Huey and Jeff Gilliard of Rockledge, Fla.; plus many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Theodore and Mary Feldman and Loren and Constance Peerson; one niece, Elisa Jane Feldman; and great-nephew, Christian William Feldman.
Visitation will be held at Sweeney-Phillips Funeral & Holdren Home in Warrensburg from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012. Services for Hayes will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warrensburg 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2012. Father Pete Savidge from St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Holden and Fr. Joseph Miller C.PP.S. from Sacred Heart will be officiating.
Pallbearers are Zachary Yancey, Christopher Huey, Derek Feldman, Matt Venable, Tony Hillsman and Ron Goodwin. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg.
Contributions are requested in lieu of flowers to the Walter Hayes Feldman Memorial Fund and can be left at the funeral home.
