Margaret Ann Wood

HOLDEN, Mo. -- Margaret Ann Wood, 99, of Holden, died Monday, April 23, 2012 at her home.
Margaret was born Feb. 12, 1913, in Holden, to Henry and Mary (Gudde) Hilke. She was a graduate of College High in Warrensburg and Kansas City Beauty School. On Nov. 6, 1934, she married Gene Wood.
Gene and Margaret owned Wood Funeral Home in Holden from 1965 to 1983. Margaret enjoyed life, her flowers, board games, bridge, her family and church. She was very active in the community.
She is survived by daughter, Mary Lou Larson (Charles) of St. Joseph, Mo.; son, Sam Wood (Helen) of Santa Rose, Calif.; and daughter, Rebecca Barnett (Joe) of Holden; grandchildren: Gregg Larson, Joe Larson (Peggy), Jennifer Brook (Greg), Sarah Parr (Dave), Eric Wood, Kristen Wood, Heidi Wood, Amy Hazzell and Courtney Keithly; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; brother, Leo Hilke; sisters, Theresa Huber and Angela Flaspohler; granddaughter, Mary Larson; nephews: Charles Huber, Joe Huber, and Rob Hilke, and niece, Sheila Hilke.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with Father Pete Savidge officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Holden. Pallbearers will be Gregg Larson, Joe Larson, Eric Wood, C. L. Gudde, Ernie Smith and Jim Huber.
There will be a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden, with visitation to follow from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Patrick’s Building Fund.

David Lee Calhoon

David Lee Calhoon, 80 of Warsaw, Missouri formerly of Warrensburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2012 at Warsaw Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15th at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with Pastor Mike Cassidy of First United Methodist Church in Cole Camp officiating. Entombment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.
David was born March 29, 1934 in Warrensburg, the son of Paul and Margaret (Feugate) Calhoon. He married Barbara C. Long on Feb. 19, 1972 in Warrensburg. He resided in the state of Washington for twelve years, prior to moving to Alaska for a brief time. Dave lived in Warsaw since 2005. He owned and operated TNT Concrete. He enjoyed fishing and reading western books.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; three sons: Mike Calhoon and wife, Diane of Columbus, Missouri; Jesse Calhoon and wife, Joanne of Warsaw, Missouri and David Calhoon, Jr. of Arizona; two stepsons: Jim Metcalf and wife, Barb of Warrensburg, Missouri and Steve Simpson of Washington State; five stepdaughters: Gwen Lucas and husband, Stan of Orlando, Florida; Lisa Pyatt of Warrensburg, Missouri; Teresa Ochsenbein of Knob Noster, Missouri; Mary Beth Marr and John of Freeman, Missouri; and Rebecca Metcalf of Virginia Beach, Virginia; twenty five grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents and three brothers; Paul Edwin, Lester and Marvin Reese Calhoon.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Johnson County Cancer Foundation, in care of the funeral chapel.

Ivan Elizabeth Todd

Ivan Elizabeth Todd, 94 years, of Warrensburg, died Tuesday, March 15, 2012 at the Country Club Care Center.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 18, at the funeral home with Reverend Richard Rickard officiating. Interment will follow in Knob Noster Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Frank Todd, Leroy Whelehon, Ronnie Goring, John Babock, John Wade and Michael Cohran.
Ivan was born of Mary Myers on June 12, 1921 in Montserrat, Missouri.
On Aug. 5, 1944, she and George Todd were married in Warrensburg. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1981.
Ivan and George were the proud parents of two sons, Dennis Todd and his fiancée, Barbara Moore, of Warrensburg, and Charles Todd and wife, Janet, of Leeton. They had eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two great great-grandchildren, Shauna Nichole Todd and Annabelle Marie Terrell.
Ivan was a homemaker who never worked outside of the home. She was a wife and mother who enjoyed raising her sons, working on flower and vegetable gardens, canning vegetables and fruits, and visiting with family and friends. Ivan also enjoyed quilting, playing cards, and working on puzzles. She was always ready to help others.
Ivan was a devoted Christian and accepted Christ at an early age. She joined the Methodist Church at Montserrat where she was a Sunday school teacher. After moving to Warrensburg in 1995, she joined the Bethel Baptist Church where she attended and remained a member until her death.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Bethel Baptist Missionary Bibles and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Brandon Stewart

Brandon Matthew Stewart, 24, of Knob Noster, died Saturday, March 12, 2012 in Sedalia.
A celebration of life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Knob Noster VFW Post 4195.
Brandon was born Nov. 8, 1991, the son of Kenneth Roger and Marlena (Hall) Stewart in Reno, Nevada.
On Sept. 24, 2011, in Knob Noster, he and Chelsae Johnson were united in marriage.
Brandon was an amazing, self-taught automotive painter carrying out his dream at Warrensburg Chrysler Body Shop. He loved spending time with his wife and kids, and loved giving them rides on his dirt bikes, four wheelers and even his Harley. He could work on just about anything that had a motor in it and was always challenging himself to learn more about working with motors. He was also a “pretend fisherman” to pass the time; he never really caught any fish and was always mad when someone else did.
Brandon was an amazing father, husband and best friend.
Brandon is survived by his wife, Chelsea Stewart, a son, Aiden Stewart, and a daughter, Destiny Stewart, of Knob Noster; his mother, Marlena Stewart, of Sparks, Nevada; three brothers, Brian Stewart of Missoula, Montana, Andrew Stewart of Cold Springs, Nevada, and Cameron Stewart of Sparks, Nevada; and his maternal grandfather, Herbert Stogner, of Cold Springs, Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Children’s Education Fund with checks made payable to Chelsae Stewart and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home.

Mary Ann Greife

YUMA, Ariz. – Mary Ann (Carnahan) Greife, 88, of Yuma, Ariz., died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City after a short illness.
Mary Ann was born May 17, 1924, in Womac, Ill., the daughter of Everette Edward and Ila Fern (Padgett) Carnahan.
She married Karl Wesley Greife on Nov. 6, 1948 in Kansas City, Mo. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2009.
Mary Ann graduated from Olathe High School in 1942 and attended college and studied nursing. She lived for three years in Ethiopia, Africa, working for Trans World Airlines. Mary Ann returned to Missouri where she made her home in Pleasant Valley. After retirement, she and her husband Karl traveled between a summer residence in Wheatland, Mo., and a winter residence in Yuma, Ariz., eventually settling full time in Yuma.
Mary Ann was an avid gardener who transformed her dry, desert home in Yuma into a lush, green oasis. She was a gifted oil painter, who loved portraying the Southwest in her special style. Mary Ann loved to read and had a keen interest in current events and finance. She loved to travel and took many trips around the world with Trans World Airlines visiting places like Bangkok, Cairo and Frankfurt. Her most recent trips were back to Egypt with her daughter Alice and granddaughters Sarah and Kathleen, and Hawaii with Alice, John, Sarah and Kathleen.
Mary Ann is survived by her two daughters, Alice Greife and husband John Zey of Warrensburg; and Karla Moriatry and husband Chris of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren, Sarah and Kathleen Zey of Warrensburg; and Matthew, Michael and Samantha Moriatry of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a half sister, Nancy Carnahan Jenkins; and a niece and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Pastor Mike Cassidy offiiciating.
Inurnment will be at a later date at White Chapel Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.
The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the National Audubon Society and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Delores Elaine Gish Hoisington

Delores Elaine Gish Hoisington, 78, of Warrensburg, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012 at her home.
Delores was born November 14, 1933, in Enterprise, Kan., the daughter of Ralph and Pearl (Schmidt) Gish. On July 12, 1957, she married James Hoisington in Salina, Kan.
She was a 1951 graduate of Enterprise High School. She worked in civil service and was an accountant at Whiteman Air Force Base for 20 years. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warrensburg and loved to play bridge.
She is survived by her husband James of the home; one daughter, Lisa Kasmer and husband Richard of Medina, Ohio; two sons: Drew Hoisington and wife Candice of Gainesville, Fla.; and Dana Hoisington of Oronogo, Mo.; two brothers: Keith Gish of Vallejo, Calif.; and Daniel Gish of Topeka, Kan.; three granddaughters: Courtney Hoisington of Tallahassee, Fla.; Brittany Hoisington of Gainesville, Fla.; and Lindsay Kasmer of Medina, Ohio; and one grandson, Jeremy Kasmer of Pittsburgh, Penn.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, with Rev. Louie Lowe officiating. Pallbearers will be Drew Hoisington, Dana Hoisington, Jeremy Kasmer, and Richard Kasmer.
Interment will be Thursday, August 16, at noon at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Enterprise, Kan., with Rev. Sue Belknap officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Nature Conservancy and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Vivian Grace Ensley

Vivian Grace Ensley, 85, of Holden, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Vivian was born January 23, 1927 in Quincy, Calif., the daughter of Ernest Frederick and Grace Frances (Daugherty) Ensley. Most of her life was lived in Holden. She graduated from Holden High School, attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, and received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from UCM in Warrensburg.
She taught briefly in the Holden public schools, served as a librarian in California, taught fifth grade in Raytown many years, and served as librarian at the Holden Public Library.
She leaves one brother, Kenneth Ensley, Kansas City, Kan.; two nephews, Kenneth William Slayor, Chilhowee, Mo., and Marco Antonio Ponce, Kansas City, Kan.; one grand-nephew; and two grand-nieces.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. at Mineral Creek Cemetery in Leeton, Mo., under the direction of Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home, Holden, Mo. The service will be officiated by Elder Clayton Foss.

Robert Edward “Bob” Goetz, Sr.

Robert Edward “Bob” Goetz Sr., 92, of Warrensburg, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 at the Missouri State Veterans Home in Warrensburg.
Bob was born March 14, 1920, in Smithton, Mo., the son of Edward William and Edna Lugreta (Bohling) Goetz. He did his undergraduate work at Central Missouri State Teachers College, and then received his master’s degree at Colorado State College of Education, and his doctorate in education from the University of Missouri.
He served during World War II between February 1943 and December 1945 in the Army Air Corps as a Navigator / Instructor for B-17s and B-29s. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warrensburg, where he served as Trustee, Sunday School teacher, and as a member of the Chancel Choir for 52 years.
He was also a member of the American Legion and Boy Scouts of America Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He taught at Central Missouri State College in the department of Applied Sciences and Technology for 38 years and retired as assistant dean. He was instrumental in the development of the Graphic Arts department. He also served as president of the American Industrials Arts Association and the Ohio Industrial Arts Association. He was a member of the Mississippi Valley Industrial Arts conference.
Bob is survived by his wife Rickey Irene (Monsees); three sons, Robert E. Goetz Jr. and wife Sharon of St. Louis, Mo., David E. Goetz and wife Glenda of Warrensburg, and Donald K. Goetz and wife Tami of Westminster, Colo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Edna (Sewell) Goetz.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg with Rev. Louie Lowe officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Goetz, Chad Goetz, Josh Goetz, Mitch Axsom, Matt Axsom and Johnny Barnett. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Brame, John Horine, Perry McCandless, George Sample, Jackson Short, Hal Sappington and Charles Keseman.
Burial will be in the cemetery in Smithton, Mo.
The family will receive friends, Monday, Aug. 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church building fund or the Robert Edward Goetz Scholarship Fund at UCM. Memorials may be left in care of the funeral home.
