Daniel J. Hatt

Daniel J. Hatt, 54 of Kingsville, Mo., died Friday, Sept, 19, 2014 at his residence.
Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church north of Kingsville with Pastor Tamara Mortenson officiating.
There will be a private interment at a later date.
Daniel was born Sept. 17, 1960, in Kansas City, Mo. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in Independence. He was united in marriage to Carla Shuman on Aug. 23, 1981, in Kansas City. The couple made their home in Independence for a brief time prior to moving to Grandview. Later, they resided in Blue Springs for five years. In 1997, they moved to their current home north of Kingsville. Dan played a lot of softball in years past. He was an avid crappie fisherman and he also loved hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Carla; son, Brandon Hatt and wife, Sandi, of Grain Valley, Mo.; daughter, Christine Geiger and husband, Matt, of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, Lainey Hatt, Kaylee Bryant, Olivia Geiger and Juliet Geiger; and mother-in-law, Clarice Akins of Peculiar, Mo. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alyce Hatt and a brother, Stephen Hatt.

Virginia Lee Austen

Virginia Lee (Shields) Austin, 75, of Pleasant Hill, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 at Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden, Missouri with Pastor Preston Sanders of Strasburg Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Chilhowee Cemetery.
She was born April 5, 1939 in Moundville, Missouri the daughter of Ralph LeRoy Shields and Lorene Virginia (Bright) Shields. Virginia lived in Pleasant Hill, Missouri most of her adult life. She worked at Gerbes' in the card and floral department for several years. After Virginia was blessed with grandchildren, she began babysitting them in her home. In 1992 she became a bus aid for the Pleasant Hill School District where she retired from in 2007. Virginia loved her riders. She always bonded with each one in their own special way.
Virginia was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill Young Matrons Extension Club and Just for Fun Red Hat Club. She had a passion for oil painting and spent hours watching painting shows on TV. She attended painting classes from the late Pat Clark. Other hobbies included playing cards, board games, sewing, crafts, bowling and listening to Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus with family and friends. Virginia’s favorite pastime was spending time with her grandkids. She attended every musical, play, school program, and sports event possible.
Survivors include her daughter, Chantell Lorene Benware of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; son, Jimmie Dale Austin Jr. and wife, Robin of Chilhowee Missouri; grandchildren & great Grandchildren: Bryan Benware and wife, Stephanie of St Louis, Missouri; Casey Benware of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and his daughter, Briley; Crystal Benware of Pleasant Hill, MO; Clifford Swope and wife, Kerri of Warrensburg, Missouri and their daughter, Karley and son, Collin; Russell Austin & Debbie Hendon of Chilhowee, Missouri and their daughter, Felicia and sons, Hunter & Dalton; Dustie Caldwell and husband, Chris of Warrensburg, Missouri and their son, Noah and daughter, Briahna; brothers, Richard Shields of Kansas City, Missouri; Ed Shields wife, Sandy of Chilhowee, Missouri and Leonard Shields and wife, Margaret of Chilhowee Missouri; sisters, Lou Jane Bywater & Paul Kiser of Sierre Vista, Arizona; Donna Sherron and husband, Tom of Smithfield, North Carolina; Debbie Parsons and husband, Harold of Holden, Missouri; Cindy Hill and husband, Darrell of Chilhowee, Missouri and many nieces, nephews, cousins. She was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, Tommy Shields and Gene Shields; sister-in-law, Ruth Shields, four nephews and one niece.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions are suggested to Big Creek Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill or Johnson County Sheltered Workshop Warrensburg, Missouri.

Mary Theresa Brinkley

Mary Theresa Brinkley, age 37, of Centerview, Missouri, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at her home.
Cremation is planned.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the University of Central Missouri Alumni Memorial Chapel in Warrensburg, Mo.
She was born February 7, 1977, in St. Charles, MO, the daughter of James and Judith Ann (Siburt) Utterson.
On April 18, 1998, she was united in marriage to Darrell Brinkley in Newburg, Missouri.
Mary worked as an administrative secretary for the department of Nutrition and Kinesiology at the University of Central Missouri.
Mary is survived by her husband, Darrell; one son, Ian Brinkley; one daughter, Zoey Brinkley, all of Centerview, Missouri; her parents, James and Judy Utterson of St. Charles, Missouri; three brothers, Dan Utterson of Denmark, Sweden; Eric Utterson and wife Liz, and Matthew Utterson and wife Amy, all of St. Louis, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the children’s education with checks made payable to Darrell Brinkley and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, MO.

Tommie L. Blaylock

Tommie L. Blaylock, Jr., 66, of Holden, Missouri, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at the Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
Per Tommie'’s wishes, following cremation, private services will be scheduled at a later date.
Tommie was born Sept. 19, 1948 in Corona, California, the son of Thomas L. and Eva C. Casner) Blaylock. He enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. Tommie was awarded two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars.
Survivors include his daughter, Wendy Blaylock of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; son, Darrel Blaylock of Chilhowee, Missouri; six siblings: Donald Blaylock and wife, Kathy of Cody, Wyoming; Catherine Moore and husband, Bobby of Kingsville, Missouri; Karen Jurgensen of Belen, New Mexico; Judi Bensley of Los Lunas, New Mexico; Vickie Martin and husband, Ski of Los Lunas; and Michael Blaylock and wife, Julia of Lacy, Washington; three grandchildren: Kelsey, Callie and Hayden; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Daniel Mark & James Porter.

Elizabeth Rose Sharwarko

Elizabeth Rose “Sharwarko, 31, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015 at St Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.
The family will receive family and friends at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg on Monday, Feb. 16th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with service following at 7:30 p.m.
Liz was born July 9th, 1983 in Jacksonville, Arkansas. She spent the early part of her life living at various Air Force Bases with 5 years being in Turkey. In 1992 her family settled in Warrensburg. She graduated from Warrensburg High School in 2001. Anyone that knew Liz could describe her with 3 words: crazy, funny, and most importantly, caring. She spent the majority of her short adult life caring for others. She was a C.N.A. at various nursing homes including the Benton House in Lee’s Summit and spent 8 years caring for our veterans at the Warrensburg Veterans Home.
She leaves behind the love of her life, Thomas Bruels and their dog, Farley; mother, Rose Sharwarko; father and stepmother, John and Judith Sharwarko, all of Warrensburg, MO; her brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Krystal Sharwarko of Rapid City, South Dakota; her nieces, Zoey and Emma Sharwarko, also of Rapid City, South Dakota; step-brothers, Danny and Brian McFadden of Colorado as well as numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by both paternal grandparents, John and Betty Sharwarko, and maternal grandparents, Mauro and Barbara Ciotola.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Warrensburg Animal Shelter or the Missouri Veterans Home in care of Williams Funeral Chapel.

Betty Anne Belk

Betty Anne Belk, 71 of Holden, Missouri, formerly of Raytown, died Monday, Feb. 9, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden with Lt. Col. Mark Crumpton officiating. Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
Betty was born on June 2, 1943, in Ft. Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Lena M. (Carl) Zook. At a young age, she moved with her family to Raytown where she graduated from Raytown High in 1961. She married right out of high school and had five children. She was involved in many activities with her children. She was room mother, and she was involved with the PTA. She was also campfire leader at one time. She sold Avon for several years and was a member of the Blue Ridge Methodist Church. She married Dale A. Belk on May 27, 1983, in Raytown. Betty was employed with Osco Drugs in Raytown until she retired in 2000. She moved to Holden 2011. She was a member of the Holden First United Methodist Church and volunteered at the Senior Center for a short time.
Survivors include her daughter Kathie Shinn and husband, Daran, of Holden; three sons, Christopher Lovick, of Kingsville, Missouri; Drew Lovick and wife, Ludis, of Panama; Jeff Burhman and wife, Wendy, of West Palm Beach, Florida; son-in-law, Mark Crumpton, of Georgia; brother, Robert Zook, and wife of Kansas City, Missouri; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and her treasured dogs, Lulu and Shadow. She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Dale, in December 2009; both parents; her brother, Patric Zook; son, Michael Lovick; and daughter, Deborah Crumpton.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Johnson County Cancer Foundation in care of the funeral chapel.

Benjamin Franklin Thomas Harrison

Benjamin Franklin Thomas Harrison, 98, only 10 days shy of his 99th birthday, of Kansas City, Missouri, died Friday, Feb. 6, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Warrensburg with the Rev. Terrence Moody officiating.
Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from noon until service time Friday at the church.
He was born on Feb. 16, 1916, in the township of Mount Olive, Missouri, to Jacob Harrison and Matilda Foy. His parents and 12 of his siblings, Levi, Joseph, Elmer, Victoria, Jinnie, Corrine, Sally, Anna and his baby’s siblings, Roy Lee, Edward Arthur, Verie Matilda and Philmo, preceded him in death. His wife, Georgia Viola Morgan Harrison of 57 years, died on April 25, 2001; his son, Larry Thomas Harrison, two daughters, Georgia Marie and Wanda Mae Harrison, preceded him in death also.
Bennie, as he was well known as, was raised on the farm in Mount Olive, where he received his education. He was quiet, hardworking and resourceful. He began his church membership in Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church enjoying the fellowship and the wonderful “basket dinners” after church.
He was united in marriage to Georgia Viola Morgan on Oct. 3, 1943. They lived in the Holden and Warrensburg communities working and raising their family. After moving to Warrensburg, they became members of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. A man of few words, when someone told him how good he looked, he would say, “Nothin’ but the Good Lord.”
Bennie, who had a sweet and gentle soul, was a simple man, who never complained. He went about his daily chores or task smiling at everyone, with a humble spirit. He worked for many years for railroad, pipeline and construction companies. On retirement, he continued his lawn service business. He loved to garden, mow and landscape yards.
In 2005, Bennie was the recipient of the Heritage Award for Outstanding Contribution and Dedication to the citizens of Johnson County from the pastor and members of Warren Street United Methodist Church. He was also presented a Missouri House of Representatives resolution for his longstanding service with the railroad for being the first African American to retire from state of Missouri.
He loved to laugh and play with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the tiny great-great-grandchildren.
He leaves two sons, Chester L. Harrison (Jeanette), Raytown, Missouri; and Wayne F. Harrison (Rhelandeau), Warrensburg; five daughters, Carolyn D. Coates (Ezell), Mesa, Arizona; Joyce E. Pearson, Linda L. Person (William), Victoria D. Redmond and Patricia V. Harrison; sisters-in-law, Mary Virginia Thomas, Kansas City, Missouri; and Theresa Dean Reed, Warrensburg; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church families.
Services are under the direction of Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.

Donnie Lee Jennings

Donnie Lee Jennings, 61, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Sunday, Feb. 8, at his home.
Cremation graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.
He was born Sept. 13, 1953, in Warrensburg, the son of Donald D. and Dorothy Jean (Foster) Jennings.
He was united in marriage to Debra Holt on March 15, 1992, in Warrensburg.
Donnie worked as a custodian for Central Missouri State University for several years and had been working as a loader and packer for Carlyle Van Lines for the past 14 years.
Donnie was a Baptist by faith.
He is survived by his wife, Debra; four siblings, Sandra Kay Iiams and husband, Dennis, of Knob Noster, Missouri; Bobbie Jennings, of Independence, Missouri; Dianna Barber, of Texas; and Pam Dewey and husband, David, of De Ruyter, New York.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Donnie Lee Jennings Memorial Fund with checks made payable to Debra Jennings and can be left in care of the funeral home.
Services are under the direction of Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
