Mary Chrisman

Mary Chrisman, age 77, of Warrensburg, Missouri, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Warrensburg Manor Care Center.
She was born July 31, 1937, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur and Anna Belle (Dotson) Deller.
On June 7, 1963, she was united in marriage to Robert Chrisman in Salina, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 17, 1995.
Mary was a 1955 graduate of Americus High School and then went to business school for two years. She worked various jobs during her career including a homemaker for the District 3 Area Agency on Aging in Warrensburg, Missouri; a cook at Farmers Elementary School; worked at Office Suppliers in Warrensburg, Missouri and drove a school bus for the Crestridge R-7 School District until her retirement. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and enjoyed working on the farm, gardening, sewing and reading. Mary was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Mary is survived by her three daughters, Christal Thomas and husband Justin of Centerview, Missouri; Joya Gray and husband Mike of Holden, Missouri; and Starlith Slattery of Centerview, Missouri; three sisters, Viola Williamson of Rogers, Arkansas, Hazel Sumstine of Cole Camp, Missouri; and Lorraine Burson of Chillicothe, Missouri; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David and Arthur Deller; two sisters, Anna Belle Lenhart and Florence Ann Deller; and one son, Jevon Chrisman.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 14 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, Missouri with Chaplain Erich Kurz officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Meals on Wheels or the Warrensburg Manor Alzheimer’s Unit, and both can be left in care of the funeral home.

James ‘Gus’ Roy Tyroler

James “Gus” Roy Tyroler, 79, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 12, 2014 at Western Missouri Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Northside Christian Church in Warrensburg, with Pastor Sid Teller officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery with full military honors. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Pallbearers will be Steve and Brian Purinton, Aaron Engelhardt, Lou Sharp, Seth Roskop and Chad Weigand.
He was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Maurice and Leah Tyroler.
Gus was drafted to the Naval Reserve upon turning 18 in October 1952. He graduated from Waterford Township High School in Michigan in 1953. In 1955, he joined the Air Force where he attended radio operation school at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. After his training, he was a ground radio operator in Fukuoka, Japan, at an aircraft warning site on the island of Kyushu from 1956 to 1957. In 1957, Gus moved to Whiteman Air Force Base and lived in Sedalia, Mo. In 1959, Gus was honorably discharged from the 340th Operations Squadron, Strategic Air Command at Whiteman. He then worked for Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company for 9 1/2 years. He worked for Budweiser in Sedalia for seven years before he began working at Bi-Lo grocery store. He began working as the liquor department manager before going to work in the dairy/frozen food department.
While Gus was working at Bi-Lo, he met his future bride, Lynne Purinton. They married on Sept. 8, 1984 gaining him two sons, Steven and Brian. Gus was overjoyed at the births of his and Lynne’s granddaughters. Gus and Lynne did a lot of traveling to Canada, the Rocky Mountains, Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and the Gulf Coast. They went on several float trips that they enjoyed tremendously, especially when they got to take their granddaughters. Gus retired from Bi-Lo in 2004, though he continued to work part-time while he and Lynne continued to travel and enjoy retirement. Gus and Lynne were active members of Northside Christian Church.
Gus is survived by two sons, Steve Purinton of Warsaw; and Brian Purinton and wife, Jeanette, of Chilhowee; six grandchildren, Mandy Weigand and husband, Chad, of Warrensburg; Amber Engelhardt and husband, Aaron, of Lee’s Summit; Sadie Purinton of Warrensburg; Seth Roskop of Chilhowee; Emily Purinton of Chilhowee; and Molly Purinton of Warsaw; and one brother, Randy Johnson, of Troy, Mich. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynne, on Feb. 6 and his parents.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Northside Christian Church, Johnson County Hospice, or the Show-Me Christian Youth Home and can be left in care of Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home.

Eugene F. Neer

Eugene F. Neer, 84 of Warrensburg, Mo., formerly of Knob Noster, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014 at St. Luke’’s Hospital in Kansas City.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with Pastor Wayne Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Eugene Frederick Neer was born March 26, 1930, in Liberal, Kan., the son of Willard and Gerald Bell (Dykes) Neer. He was united in marriage to Velda R. Gustason on Dec. 26, 1948, in Clayton, N.M. He owned and operated Neer Lumber Co. in Liberal during the 1950’s and early 1960's. The couple moved to a farm near Knob Noster in 1962. He moved to Warrensburg in later years. Eugene was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Mechanics was his hobby.
Survivors include his son, Gary Neer and wife, Shirley, of Knob Noster; two daughters, Judy Hicks and husband, Wayne, of Hudson, Fla.; and Rita Carter and husband, Robert, of Freeman, Mo.; three sisters, Anna Belle Sellers and husband, Jim, of Sacramento, Calif.; Sally Woods of Tennessee; and Linda Mallory and husband, Frank, of Arkansas; four grandchildren, Amy Madison and husband, James, of Arizona; Jeff Neer and wife, Kim, of Knob Noster; Jennifer Gould and husband, Franco, of Washington, D.C.; and Ryan Hicks and wife, Lauren, of Mansfield, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Hicks, Levi Hicks, Alexis Madison, Trevor Ellis and Michala Ellis; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velda, on Nov. 22, 2007, and his brother, Charles Neer.

Donald R. Manley

Donald R. Manley, 74 of Leeton, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 at the Windsor Rehabilitation Center in Windsor, Mo.
Don was born April 7, 1940, in St. Clair County, Mo., the son of William Henry and Eva Morrison Manley.
He was a member of the Teamsters for 22 years, ran a ranch for Roy Williams and trained and showed horses most of his life. Don enjoyed watching his grandchildren and teaching them little rhymes to irritate their parents. He also made many friends while talking on his CB radio.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Kauffman Manley; three sons, Royal Manley and wife Marijayne and children Bailee, Levi and Reed Manley of Leeton; Clinton Moore and children Taylor, Austin and Skylar Moore of Belton; Kevin Manley and children Terry Don and Mindy of Louisiana; three great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.
Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Leitta Murray of Utah; two brothers, Otis and Robert Manley; two sisters, Viola Howerton and Gladys Goodman.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, Mo. with Reverend Harvey Beach officiating.
Interment will follow at Mineral Creek Cemetery in Leeton, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House (St. Louis) or the Warrensburg Veteran’s Home, and both can be left in care of the funeral home.

Gay Lynn Campbell

Gay Lynn Campbell, 57 of Warrensburg, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’’s Summit.
Gay was born Feb. 7, 1957, in Sewickley, Pa., the daughter of Ernest O. and Arla (Bailey) Furman. She graduated from Emporium Junior-Senior High School in Emporium, Pa. She moved to Warrensburg in 1997. Gay was united in marriage to Charles M. Campbell on July 24, 1998, in Eureka Springs, Ark. She was employed with Carlyle Van Lines for the past 13 years. She was an avid reader.
Survivors include her husband, Chuck; four children, Arla Powell and husband, Jason, of Greenville, S.C.; Richard Miller and wife, Natalie, of Reno, Nev.; Robyn Miller of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and Amy Campbell of Warrensburg; sister, Pamela Furman and husband, Keith, of Warren, Ohio; brother, James Prosper and wife, Carrie, of DuBois, Pa.; and five grandchildren, Teia Miller, Erin Miller, Charley Miller, Paige Miller and Anya Powell. She was preceded in death by both parents.
There will be a private memorial gathering at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Johnson County Cancer Foundation in care of the funeral home.

Rick Carnes

Rick Carnes, 56, of Knob Noster, Mo., died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Knob Noster United Methodist Church with Pastor Bryan Wendling officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary Wuff, Kevin Lockard, Shane and Dustin Huntsman, Joe and Dustin Palmer, Ronnie Carnes, and Billy Carnes.
Interment will follow at Knob Noster Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
He was born Oct. 15, 1957, in Ontario, Calif., the son William G. and Fern (Salmon) Carnes.
He was united in marriage to Glenda Palmer on April 12, 2012, in Warrensburg, Mo.
Rick was a 1975 graduate of Knob Noster High School. In February 1976, he joined and served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 22 years and retired with rank of staff sergeant.
After his military career, he worked for the Knob Noster School District as a bus driver until August 2014. Rick enjoyed working on tractors, gardening and entertaining his nieces and nephews by telling stories. He attended Knob Noster United Methodist Church.
Rick is survived by his wife, Glenda, and one daughter, Tyann Carnes, both of Knob Noster; his mother, Fern Carnes of Knob Noster; and his brother, Ron Carnes and wife Jan of Olathe, Kan.
He is preceded in death by his father, William G. Carnes, on Aug. 27, 2006.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Rick Carnes Memorial Fund with checks made payable to Glenda Carnes and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Gregory Lyle Horner

Gregory Lyle Horner, 48 of Warrensburg, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 at VITAS Hospice in Kansas City.
Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with the Rev. Sid Tiller officiating. There will be a private interment at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Manna Harvest in Warrensburg, in care of the funeral home.
Greg was born Nov. 22, 1965, in Sweet Springs, Mo., the son of Lyle G. and Teresa A. (Riddle) Horner. He spent his early years living on or near Air Force bases throughout the country. He graduated from Bishop McNamara High School in Forrestville, Md., and received his associate’s degree from Okaloosa Junior College in Niceville, Fla. He also attended Florida State and Florida Atlantic Universities. He was united in marriage to Regina L. Cutts on June 16, 1990, in Niceville.
He was the general manager of Golden Strand Resort Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., when he was 23 years old. He worked for Colter Corporation of South Florida, a well-known medical supply company. When they computerized their information management systems, they made Greg a part of the implementation project. He built on this experience and became a highly recruited software consultant and formed his own company, G. H. Solutions. He worked internationally and he spent the rest of his career in this field.
He moved to the Warrensburg area in 2012 and spent his last years enjoying this area. He was baptized Christian and attended Northside Christian Church in Warrensburg. Greg’s hobbies included anything 'techie', body building and music.
Survivors include his son, Jordan Lyle Horner of Baker, Fla.; parents, Lyle and Teresa Horner of Warrensburg; brother, Daniel Horner and wife, Marcia, of Parkville, Mo.; maternal grandmother, Mildred Beard of Warrensburg; fraternal grandmother, Juanita Horner of Warrensburg; and niece, Chelsea Braun of Roeland Park, Kan. He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Reggie L. Beard; paternal grandfather, Max L. Horner; uncle, Daniel P. Horner; and aunt, Mary L. Pfost.

Emma Grace Fuller

Emma Grace Fuller, 95, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014 at Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg with the Rev. Louie Lowe of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Emma was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Bosworth, Mo., the daughter of the Rev. Theodore A. Dowler and Lucy G. (Goodwin) Dowler. She graduated from College High School in Warrensburg in 1938. She was a seamstress with Unitog for nearly 30 years. Later, Emma was a cook at Warrensburg Manor Care Center. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a longtime member of B.P.W. at one time. Emma was an avid bowler and she also loved fishing.
Survivors include her son, William Eugene 'Gino' Fuller and wife, Linda, of Warrensburg; three grandchildren, Scott Johnson and partner, Charles Meltzer, of Healdsburg, Calif.; Brian Johnson and partner, Ken Holder, of Houston, Texas; and Barton Fuller and wife, Jan, of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, John R. Dowler and wife, Lorraine, of Eldon, Mo.; and Theodore L. 'Ted' Dowler and wife, Beth, of Raymore, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Esther Muriel Ridenour; sister, Mary Sarah Harriman; brother, Walter E. Dowler; and two grandchildren, Todd Fuller and Lisa Fuller.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Meals on Wheels in care of the funeral home.
