Alberta Gwen Larrison

Alberta Gwen Larrison of Sullivan passed away on Friday, July 21, 2000 at the age of 44 years.

Mrs. Larrison was born on March 16, 1956 in Steelville, Missouri to Oliver and Charlotte (Litty) Licklider. She was raised in Steelville, and graduated from Steelville High School. On June 9, 1979 she was joined in holy matrimony to Joseph T. Larrison, Jr. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan, and to this union two children were born. Being a multitalented person, Gwen worked in several areas as well as serving her family as a homemaker. She worked for eight years as manager of the Shoney's Restaurant in Sullivan, and for ten years operated the Robin’s Nest Day Care Center in Sullivan. She found pleasure in cooking, baking, gardening, singing, and fishing. She was a faithful member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan. Gwen’s life revolved around her husband, children, and extended family. She demonstrated a deep love and respect for both of her parents. She also has been described as a woman who was extremely devoted to anyone who needed her to the point of doing without.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph T. Larrison, Jr. of Sullivan; one son, Joseph T. Larrison, IV of Sullivan; one daughter, Angelica C. Larrison of Sullivan; her parents, Oliver and Charlotte Licklider of Steelville, Missouri; one brother, Orville Licklider and wife, Lisa of Steelville, Missouri; four sisters, Evonne Trowbridge and husband, Tom of Rockford, Illinois, Alexies Marshall, Charlotte Brooks, and Charita Bunch and husband, John, all of Steelville, Missouri; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 24, 2000 from the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with Reverend Father Theodore Brunnert officiating. Interment was in St. Anthony Parish Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to BJC Hospice in memory of Mrs. Gwen Larrison.

Morris E. Hitchcock

Morris E. Hitchcock, Jr. of Sullivan passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2000 at the age of 40 years.

Mr. Hitchcock was born on August 6, 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri to Morris E. Hitchcock, Sr. and the late Gloria C. (McCain) Hitchcock. Following high school, he worked for over 18 years at the Lady Baltimore Food Warehouse in Kansas City. In 1997 Morris moved to the Sullivan area. For the last two years he was employed at the Walmart Super Center in Washington, Missouri. Morris enjoyed body-building and all kinds of sports. He will be remembered as a loving father, a man who was both sensitive and strong, and one who was always willing to help others whenever possible.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hitchcock of Sullivan; two daughters, Shawna and Bree Ann Hitchcock of Blue Springs, Missouri; two stepchildren, Jeremy Mader and Kristie Parsons, both of Sullivan; his father, Morris E. Hitchcock, Sr. and wife, Jo of Kansas City, Missouri; one brother, Roy Hitchcock of St. Joseph, Missouri; two sisters, Tammy Dorsett and husband, Mike of Raytown, Missouri and Jana Morgan and husband, Bill of Taylorville, Illinois; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2000 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Reverend Leroy Bryant officiating.

Goldie Kline

Golden W. “Goldie” Kline of Sullivan passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2000 at the age of 88 years.

Mrs. Kline was born on September 24, 1911 in Leasburg, Missouri to the late John and Mayme (Campbell) Phillips. She was raised in Leasburg, and has been a lifelong resident of the Sullivan area. On October 8, 1932 she was joined in marriage to Jacob Raymond Kline in Union, Missouri, and to this union eight children were born. “Goldie,” as she was known to her family and friends, primarily served throughout her adult life as a devoted wife, loving mother, and diligent homemaker. She loved to cook and work in her yard, and, therefore, was quite famous for her homemade bread and beautiful flowers. As a member of the Sullivan Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, she was especially gifted in providing her own warm style of hospitality to literally anyone who might come along. She will well be remembered for her “mother-hen” instincts, and for being so appropriately named “Golden.”

She is survived by four sons, Raymond Kline, Jr. and wife, Marion, Dan Kline, Dale Kline and wife, Elizabeth, and Dave Kline and wife, Pat, all of Sullivan; two daughters, Mamie Susan Irwin and husband, Roger of St. Clair, and Florence Floros of Sullivan; two sisters, Eileen Vaughn of Leasburg and Barbara Boren of Pevely, Missouri; 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Don Kline; one daughter, Gloria Ruby Smith; two brothers, John and Forrest Phillips; one sister, Imo Ransom; and two grandsons, Chris Floros and Mark Kline.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, 2000 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Mr. Gerald Goff officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the Sullivan Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in memory of Mrs. Goldie Kline.

Charles Douglas Smith

Charles Douglas Smith of Sullivan, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2000 at the age of 44 years.

Doug, as he was known by family and friends, was born September 13, 1955 to the late Charles and Mary (Privett) Smith at Detroit, Michigan. He attended and graduated from school in Detroit prior to serving in the Armed Services. For the past six years Doug has made his home in Sullivan. Most recently he was employed as a truck driver by Voss Trucking in Cuba, Missouri. Doug was a unique individual, independent, but loving and kind. He will be fondly remembered as a good father, brother, and friend.

He is survived by his fiancee, Joyce Richard of Sullivan, and her three children, Christopher, Tanya, and Nikki Richard; two sons, Christopher and Jason Smith, and one daughter, Stephanie Smith, all of the state of California; two brothers, Ronald Smith of the state of California, and William Shackleford, Jr., of the state of Kentucky; three sisters, Lorinda Bolinger of Sullivan, Deborah Renaud of Bandera, Texas, and Cheryl Reed of the state of California; his grandmother, Ruby Privett; his uncle, Nolan Privett; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2000 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Richard Williams officiating. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Alice Barnes

Alice N. Barnes of Sullivan passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2000 at the age of 58 years.

Mrs. Barnes was born on July 14, 1942 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Rosetta (Crosby) Walls and the late Iria A. Walls. Following her upbringing and schooling in southeast Missouri, she worked in several fields of labor such as waitressing and factory work. On June 24, 1978 she was joined in marriage to James A. Barnes in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her primary vocation throughout her adult life was that of serving her family as a homemaker. She enjoyed art, the outdoors, sewing, and quilting. Her greatest love and purpose for living, however, was her family. Mrs. Barnes attended the St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sullivan. Others describe her as a woman who embodied the essence of congeniality.

She is survived by her husband, James Barnes of Sullivan; one son, Ronald Barnes, Sr. of Sullivan; her mother, Rosetta Walls of Strathmore, California; one daughter-in-law, Janet Crawford of Owensville, Missouri; one brother, Ray Walls and wife, Hope of Strathmore, California; one sister, Loretta Spicer and husband, Merle of Emmit, Idaho; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her father, Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Jesse Walls.

Funeral services were conducted at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2000 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Reverend Fritz Schmitt officiating and cremation to follow.

Kathy J. Willis

Kathy Jeanette Willis of Sullivan, Missouri, wife of Floyd Willis and daughter of the late Joseph P. and Mildred P. (Cheek) Farell, passed away at her home Tuesday, July 25, 2000 at the age of 47 years.

Kathy was born July 17, 1953 in Hammond, Indiana. She was raised in Dallas County Missouri near Buffalo where she attended school and later graduated in 1971. For a time she attended Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield after which she became employed at KBFL, the local radio station in Buffalo, she later worked at the Buffalo Refelx newspaper and Southwest Bank of Buffalo as a teller. On August 30, 1974 Kathy was married to Floyd Willis and to this marriage a daughter was born. Kathy was a 1987 graduate of Southwest Baptist University at Bolivar, Missouri with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. After her graduation, she was employed at Buffalo Elementary School. In 1994 she received her Masters Degree in Education, also at Boliver. Kathy was later employed by the St. Louis Public School and Southwest Baptist University Graduate Studies program. She had a profound influence on her students and fellow teachers and her teaching abilities, care and love touched many lives. Kathy loved teaching and the company of her fellow educators. In her spare time she enjoyed reading and crafts and was very creative. Kathy was also a member of Temple Baptist Church of Sullivan.

She is survived by her husband, Floyd of Sullivan, one daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Mike Snyder of Richwoods, Missouri, a grandson, Dakota Snyder, three brothers, Patrick Farell of St. Louis, Missouri, Joseph Farell and wife Carol of St. Louis, Michael Farell and wife Jackie of Tulsa, Oklahoma, three sisters, Lynne Hedrick and husband Dave of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, Trisha Milligan and husband Kelly of Houston, Texas, and Joan Skinner and husband Darren of Walnut Grove, Missouri, one uncle, James Cheek of Wichita, Kansas, 23 nieces and nephews, 2 great-nieces, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by a brother Andrew Farell.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 29, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. from Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Scot Perry officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Mack’s Creek, Missouri. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to Temple Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Mary C. Evans

Mary C. Evans of Sullivan passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 at the age of 86 years.

Mrs. Evans was born on February 8, 1914 in Joplin, Missouri to the late Finley and Bertha (Parsons) Underwood. She was raised in the Joplin, Mount Vernon, and Crane, Missouri area. In 1928 she moved with her family to St. Louis where she attended McKinley High School. Following her graduation from high school, she continued living in St. Louis and later worked at the St. Louis Cartridge Company for a few years. In 1944 she moved to Seattle, Washington where she worked for the Frederick & Nelson Department Store. In 1949 Mrs. Evans moved back to St. Louis. From 1966 through the late 1970s Mary and her husband, George C. Evans, Jr., owned and operated stock farms in Crawford and Dent counties. In the early 1980s she moved to Stanton, Missouri where she and George operated the Stanton Motel. Then, in 1988 she moved to Sullivan. Mrs. Evans found pleasure in sewing, gardening, and reading. Those who knew her best describe Mary as an extremely kind and sweet person whose kindness impacted the lives of many people.
She was also known to be very thoughtful towards her entire family. Mrs. Evans was a member of the Methodist faith.

She is survived by one son, Charles Evans and wife, Patricia of Washington, Missouri; one brother, Eldon R. Underwood and wife, Eileen of Crane, Missouri; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by two sons, Howard W. Flaugher, and George C. Evans, III, and one sister, Hilda W. Witte.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2000 from the Chapel of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Connie Gallagher officiating. Interment was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. If desired, contributions may be made to the World War II Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC in memory of Mrs. Mary C. Evans.

Dorothy N. Miller

Dorothy N. Miller of Sullivan, Missouri, wife of the late Charles Alex Miller, and daughter of the late Henry and Olinda (Riecke) Rocklage died peacefully with her Lord on Tuesday, August 15, 2000, attaining the age of 82 years, two months, and twenty-one days.

Mrs. Miller was born on May 24, 1918 in Olivette, Missouri where she was also raised in her youth. On August 12, 1939 she was married to Charles Alex Miller in Tuscumbia, Missouri, and to this marriage three children were born. Mrs. Miller was employed for a time with the Pattonville and Parkway School Districts as a cook. Her first devotion, however, was to her husband and family. In 1976, upon the retirement of her husband, she came to the Sullivan area to make her home. She enjoyed quilting and was a volunteer at the hospital in Sullivan. Mrs. Miller was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church of Bourbon.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Miller, Jr. of Waterloo, Iowa and Donald Miller of Sullivan; one daughter, Charlene Palermo of Berkeley, Illinois; one brother, Elmer Rocklage of Wentzville, Missouri; one sister, Bertha Ennert of St. Louis; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by four brothers, Louis, Walter, Frank and Henry Rocklage, and six sisters, Florence Cardwell, Erna Blanton, Norma Welkobrosky, Olinda Gruenwald, and Alice and Alma Rocklage in infancy.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2000 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor David Zirpel officiating. Interment was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on Monday, August 21, 2000. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

John Propst

John E. Propst of Bourbon passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at the age of 69 years.

Mr. Propst was born on September 24, 1930 in Advance, Missouri to the late Albert and Alberta (Phillips) Propst. John honorably served his country through the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. On December 21, 1973 he was united in marriage to Virginia “Ellen” Herrington Eckert in Bridgeton, Missouri. John worked for Union Electric in St. Louis for twenty years, and retired from there in 1986. Following his retirement, he and Ellen moved to Bourbon, Missouri where they have resided for the past fourteen years. During those semi-retirement years, John worked at Wally’s True Value Hardware in Sullivan where he gained the reputation as “Mr. Fix It.” He was known as a man who enjoyed working with his hands, and who always had a smile. He also loved hunting, trout fishing, and took great pleasure in his grandchildren, having helped raise Cody and Casey. John was a member of the St. Louis Traffic Club, and attended the First United Methodist Church in Bourbon.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Propst of Bourbon; one son, Michael Propst of the state of California; one daughter, Dianna Parnell and husband, Michael of Bourbon; two brothers, Melvin Propst and wife, Carol of Bloomfield, Missouri, and Charles Propst of the state of Arkansas; one half brother, Leon Fredwell and wife, Norma of Popular Bluff, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Lena Propst of Advance, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two stepsons, James and Frank Eckert, one brother, Paul Propst, one sister, Geraldine Blankenship, and one grandson, Cody Edwards.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2000 from the First United Methodist Church in Bourbon with Pastor Connie Gallagher officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Chapel of Bourbon, Missouri.

Leonard L, Wilmont

Leonard L. Wilmont of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2000 at the age of 79 years.

Leonard was born June 17, 1921 to the late Roy and Muril (Ferreria) Wilmont at Leadwood, Missouri. He attended and graduated from Leadwood High School where he was a star athlete and chosen All State in Track and Basketball. On October 11, 1940 he was united in marriage to Reve’ Seabourne at Leadwood and to this union, two sons were born. Leonard honorably served his country during W.W. II with the United States Navy from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the elite Navy frogmen, which is now known as the Navy Seals. Leonard was one of the first to land on Normandy Beach and was awarded many commendations including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. For many years Leonard was employed by St. Joseph Lead Company at Leadwood. There he was active in the community serving as ScoutMaster, attaining the distinctive Order of Arrow award. In 1957, Mr. Wilmont moved his family to Sullivan where he was employed by the former Meramec Mining Company. He later retired from the mining industry after 38 years of service. Leonard was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church. He served as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and president of the Baptist Brotherhood. In recent years he was bestowed the honor of Deacon emeritus by the church. Leonard enjoyed hunting and fishing until ill health would no longer permit. He was described as a “prince of a man,” who loved unconditionally and took great joy in his family.

He is survived by his wife, Reve’ Wilmont of Sullivan; two sons, Randy L. Wilmont and wife, Judy of Salem, Missouri and David A. Wilmont and wife, Susie of Birmingham, Alabama; two sisters, June Wester and husband, Henry of O’Fallon, Missouri and Roberta Stokes of St. Ann, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, Alfred Seabourne and wife, Dorothy of Orlando, Florida and Bill Seabourne and wife, Betty of Farmington, Missouri; five grandchildren, Randi Fetters and husband, Bill, Renee Auten and husband, Jim, Kyle Wilmont and wife, Aimee, Ginger Fuller and husband, Robert, Joy Gandy and husband, Charles, eight great-grandchildren, Judy and Rachel Fetters, Madison and Brooklynn Auten, Taylore, Caitlan, and Randy Fuller and Charles Gandy, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. One great-granddaughter, Ashley Auten preceded Leonard in death.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2000 from Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan with Rev. Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in Leadwood Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation in memory of Mr. Leonard Wilmont. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
