Armstrong, Otis Leon

Otis L. Armstrong of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Thursday, March 03, 2011 at the age of 72 years.

Mr. Armstrong was born on January 5, 1939 at Clarkton, Missouri to the late Jerome and Delores (Eaglin) Armstrong. He was raised and later graduated high school at Clarkton. Mr. Armstrong soon after became employed at the Emerson Electric Company in Kennett, Missouri where he worked for around 7 years. He then moved to St. Louis where he worked for National Venders and retired from there after 30 years of service to the company. Mr. Armstrong was known as a quiet man who stayed to himself. He loved baseball and played the game in his younger days. He was also an avid bowler and Bingo player.

He is survived by a son and daughter–in-law, Scott and Jackie Armstrong of Sullivan; two brothers, Larry Armstrong of Campbell, Missouri and Houston Armstrong of Kennett, Missouri; two grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by a brother Lindel Armstrong.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Michael Delashmit officiating. Cremation followed the services.

Armstrong, Dena L.

Dena L. Armstrong of Stanton, Missouri, passed away at Saint John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur, Missouri, on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the age of 55 years.

Dena was born on June 4, 1955 at St. Clair, Missouri to the late Ralph and Minnie (Cotton) Ziegler. On August 25, 1973 she was united in marriage to Eddie Armstrong. Dena enjoyed baking cookies and loved kids and animals.

She was extremely fond of playing Bingo, traveling and vacationing. Dena will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Eddie of the family home; two sisters, Patsy Mendenhall of Union, Missouri, and Beck Brown of Fair Dealing, Missouri; two brothers, Pastor Jim Watson of St. Clair, Missouri and Joe Ziegler of Union, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 4, 2010 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Jim Watson officiating. Interment was in Anaconda Cemetery.

Armistead, Kenneth P.

Kenneth P. Armistead, formerly of Sullivan, Missouri passed away at the St. Clair Nursing Center, St. Clair, Missouri on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the age of 94 years.

Mr. Armistead was born at Sullivan on July 28, 1914 to Thomas Ruben and Delilah Edith (Phillipp) Armistead. He was raised in the Sullivan area as a young man a later entered the military with the U.S. Army during W.W.II. He honorably served his country having fought in the battles and campaigns of Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a radio operator and sharpshooter, becoming an expert with the carbine rifle. Mr. Armistead was awarded two Bronze Stars, the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon. After his discharge from the Army, Kenneth became employed as an experimental mechanic with McDonald-Douglass Corporation in St. Louis and later retired from there. He was married to Marie Baugher Reeves who preceded him in death. Kenneth later married Mary Catherine (Kimbel) Byars and she too preceded him in death in 2000. Kenneth was known as a good and honest man who was a devoted member of Calvary Heights Baptist Church where he was a Bus Captain. He enjoyed the outdoors and when able, was fond of gardening.

He is survived by a step-son; Pastor Jerry Byars of Overland Park, Kansas, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Armistead was preceded in death by two brothers, Faye and Raymond Armistead; and three sisters, Bertha Stienmetz, Marion Whertwine and Windy Key.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastors Phil Hudson and Jerry Byars officiating. Interment, with full military honors, was in Oddfellows Memorial Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Union Baptist Temple, Union, Missouri.

Anita A. Livell

ANITA A. LIVELL OF SULLIVAN, WIFE OF THE LATE JACK C. LIVELL AND DAUGHTER OF THE LATE FRANK AND STELLA (ANTRAM) KROLICK PASSED AWAY SATURDAY, MAY 05, 2012 AT THE MERAMEC NURSING CENTER IN SULLIVAN AT THE AGE OF 93 YEARS, 7 MONTHS AND 13 DAYS.

ANITA WAS BORN ON SEPTEMBER 24, 1918 IN KIRKWOOD, MISSOURI, WHERE SHE GREW UP. AFTER ANITA AND JACK WERE married NOVEMBER 06, 1939, THE FAMILY MOVED TO SULLIVAN WHERE SHE WORKED AT A LOCAL SHOE FACTORY AND RAISED THREE CHILDREN. JACK PRECEDED HER IN DEATH ON APRIL 07, 1988. ANITA WAS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF ST. ANTHONY CATHOLIC CHURCH FOR MORE THAN FIFTY YEARS.

SHE IS SURVIVED BY TWO SONS: JACK AND WIFE VIRGINIA LIVELL OF SULLIVAN, CHESTER AND LaDONA LIVELL OF WASHINGTON, MISSOURI. ALSO A VERY SPECIAL FRIEND EDITH COBB. MRS LIVELL HAS SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN AND EIGHT GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

ALONG WITH HER PARENTS AND HUSBAND, SHE WAS ALSO PRECEDED IN DEATH BY TWO BROTHERS, RAYMOND KROLICK AND FRANK KROLICK III, A DAUGHTER JOAN RAE DAMM AND A GREAT-GRANDCHILD AARON BUCHANAN.

A VISITATION WAS HELD FROM 8:30 AM TILL 10:30 AM ON FRIDAY, MAY 11, 2012 AT THE EATON FUNERAL CHAPEL IN SULLIVAN. FUNERAL MASS WAS CELEBRATED AT ST. ANTHONY CATHOLIC CHURCH AT 11:00 AM FRIDAY.

BURIAL FOLLOWED AT THE ST. ANTHONY CATHOLIC CEMETERY IN SULLIVAN.

THE FAMILY REQUESTS THAT IN LIEU OF FLOWERS DONATIONS MAY BE MADE TO THE ST. VINCENT DePAUL SOCIETY OR ST. ANTHONY CATHOLIC CHURCH

Andoe, Dr. William Victor

Dr. William Victor Andoe, PhD, of Sullivan, MO, passed away at his home on Monday, April 19, 2010, at the age of 68 years.

He is survived by his wife, Deanna (nee Benedicto) of the family home; two daughters, Paula Jonagan of Melbourne, Australia, and Julia Iretta Andoe of Charlotte, NC; his mother, Iretta Andoe; a brother, Mose Andoe of Woodriver, IL; two grandchildren, William J. Jonagan and Victoria Marie Jonagan; and one great-grandson, Gavyn Jonagan; other relatives and friends.

William was born at Whittier, California and raised in Crane, Missouri where he graduated high school. He later attended the Missouri School of Mines at Rolla where he attained his Doctorate in Chemical Engineering. After graduating Dr. Andoe honorably served his country during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Captain and being award the Army Commendation Medal. On November 2, 1963 he was united in marriage to Deanna Benedicto and to this union two daughters were born. Dr. Andoe was known as a gentle, unique man who was a philosopher on many subjects. He also studied herbal remedies and enjoyed gardening and wild flowers.

Services for Dr. William Andoe were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Full military honors followed the funeral service. Visitation was held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Anderson, Juanita

Juanita Anderson of Cuba, Missouri passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the age of 62 years.

Juanita was born on August 5, 1946 at Doniphan, Missouri to Ed and Dorothy (Deckard) Meadors. She was a devoted Christian who had a beautiful personality and was always giving. Juanita enjoyed cooking and participating in the lives of her family. She could be the life of the party and would see to the needs of those around her. She attended the Freedom Mission in Sullivan where her son Ronnie is Pastor. On June 12, 1981 she was united in marriage to David Anderson at Miami, Oklahoma.

She is survived by her husband David Anderson of the family home; two sons, Kenneth Evans and wife Connie of Doniphan, Missouri, and Pastor Ronnie Evans and wife Daisy of Stanton, Missouri; three step-sons, David Anderson and wife Carolyn of St. Clair, Missouri and Mark Anderson of St. Clair, Adam Anderson of Union, Missouri; one step-daughter, Bonnie King of Springfield, Missouri; six brothers, Lawrence, Guy, and Carel Meadors all of Doniphan, Missouri, Bill Meadors of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Darrel and Eddie Meadors of Doniphan, Missouri; five sisters, Marie Tucker of Doniphan, Ariva Vaughn of Springdale, Arkansas, Mearell Henson of Pueblo, Colorado, Doris Tucker of Staunton, Illinois and Peggy Norton of St. Charles, Missouri; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, April 19, 2009 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastors Edward Anglin, Greg Tucker, and Ronnie Evans officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery.

Allen, Robert J.

Robert J. Allen of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Friday, June 12, 2009 at the age of 84 years.

He is survived by his wife Norma of the family home; three daughters, Cathi Demlow and husband Ron, Mary Anderson and husband Ron, and Robin Hughes and husband Rodney, all of Bloomington, Illinois; two step-daughters, Linda Sutter of Medford, Oregon and Patricia Little and husband Dennis of Cadillac, Michigan; one brother, David Allen of Jacksonville, Illinois; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Bob, as he was known by his family and friends, lived the majority of his life in Illinois and moved to Sullivan in 1990. He was born at Bloomington, Illinois on April 1, 1925 to James Edward and Sara Elizabeth (Carter) Allen. He honorably served his country with the US Navy during WWII with the LTA Blimp Squadron 12 and attained the rank of Seaman First Class. After the war, Bob became employed as an over-the-road truck driver and had driven several years with the Yellow Freight System until retirement. On June 18, 1983, he was united in marriage to Norma Ahrens at Kansas City, Missouri. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Sullivan. Bob was fond of the outdoors and enjoyed flower gardening and animals.

Bob was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James E. Allen and Francis Allen; and a sister Sara Elizabeth “Betty” Walters.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2009 from St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Sullivan with Pastor Tim McCarty officiating. Interment, with full military honors was in Hill Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri. Visitation was held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 2009 from the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri. Memorials to the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church Building Fund are preferred.

Alexander, William R. “Beaner”

William R. “Beaner” Alexander of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the age of 86 years.

“Beaner” as he was known by friends and family, was born on February 25, 1924 in Ragsdale, Indiana to William J. and Nadean (nee Holman) Alexander, one of two children. He honorably served his country in WWII as a Marine paratrooper fighting on several islands in the South Pacific. He watched his fellow Marines raise the American Flag on Iwogima and received a Purple Heart for wounds sustained on the Solomon Islands.

William and Charlotte Trowbridge were married on December 14, 1946 in Bicknell, Indiana and to this union three daughters were born. He and his family moved to Sullivan in 1962 where he was a life time member of the VFW and Eagles.

William worked his entire adult life as a miner; working in coal, uranium, iron ore, and potash mines. He was a quiet man who loved his family and entertained himself by following Indiana basketball and watching Jerry Springer.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Dilks and husband Jim and Lisa Thoms and husband Harold, all of Sullivan; eight grandchildren, Bill Nichols, Aaron Luttrell, Melissa Harman, Angie Blue, Aaron Dilks, Tony Thoms, Kevin Thoms, and Amy Thoms; 20 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. William was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a daughter, Sheryll Alexander.

Funeral Services for William “Beaner” Alexander were conducted at the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral home in Sullivan, MO. at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 17, 2010 with interment following in I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery and full military honors conducted by the US Marine Corps. Reverend Steve Williams officiated. Memorials are suggested to D.A.V. in the name of William Alexander.
