Bandy, Geraldine "Gerry"

Geraldine G. “Gerry” Bandy of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the age of 85 years.

Gerry, as she was known by her family and friends, was born at Steelville, Missouri on November 13, 1926 to Benjamin and Minnie Alice (Moutray) Mallow. She was raised in the Steelville area and had lived in several areas in Missouri before settling in Ellisville, Missouri. Gerry was owner and operator of the Grover Inn at Grover, Missouri for 38 years before retiring and moving to Sullivan in 2002. She was united in marriage to Elmer Miller which later ended in divorce. After which she was married to Al Long who preceded her in death and then was married to Gene Bandy who preceded her in death in 1998. Gerry loved nature and watching her flowers grow. She enjoyed bird watching and especially loved her Chow dog, Buck. She loved to travel, go fishing and attend family reunions and picnics. Gerry lived for the St. Louis Cardinals and never missed a game. She had a spunky personality and a great sense of humor. She was also known to be very independent and loved going to Cracker Barrel. Gerry dearly loved her nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews and many friends which all survive her.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012 from the Church of Christ in Sullivan with Mr. Jerry Craft officiating. Interment was in Odd Fellows Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday evening at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Disabled Veterans Association or HALO Animal Rescue of Sullivan.

Bandy, Freda Mae

Freda Mae Bandy of Leslie, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 at the age of 89 years.

Freda was born at Brumley, Missouri on December 28, 1922 to the late William W. and Mary E. (Alexander) Thornton. She was one of eleven children.

She was united in marriage to Noble D. Bandy on October 25, 1941 and they were blessed with four daughters. The family lived and worked in the Sullivan area until 1973 when they moved to the family farm on the Evergreen Loop where they lived their remaining years.

Freda attended Evergreen Baptist Church and retired from PACO-Borg Warner Auto Parts Plant in 1988. She spent most of her free time growing beautiful flowers and gardening and also found joy in visiting with her grandchildren. Freda was a lifetime member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary and the CCC Legacy.

She is survived by four daughters, Virginia Lueken and special friend Albert of Madison, Missouri, Donna Butyenek and husband John of Sullivan, Missouri, Patsy Luther and husband Howard of Buffalo, Missouri and Rose Mary Bandy of Columbia, Missouri; four brothers, Dorl Thornton and wife Pat of Pacific, Missouri, Paul Thornton and James Thornton and wife Kathy all of Marthasville, Missouri, and Gary Thornton and wife Gloria of St. Clair, Missouri; three sisters, Thelma Vaughn of Sullivan, Missouri, Kathleen Branson and husband Junior of Pacific, Missouri and Ruth Thornton of Englewood, Colorado; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Nadean Thornton of Booneville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents and husband, Freda was preceded in death a grandson, Terrance Luther, three brothers Claude, Frank and Clyde Thornton, one son-in-law Robert Lueken and a brother-in-law Al Vaughn.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from Evergreen Baptist Church with the Rev. Warren Brewer officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Leslie, Missouri. Visitation was held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Evergreen Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Baldwin, Thelma E.

Thelma E. Baldwin of Bourbon, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the age of 95 years.

Mrs. Baldwin was born on March 3, 1915 at Bourbon, Missouri to Henry and Edith (Williamson) Essman. She was a life long resident of the bourbon area and on January 1, 1949 was married to Earl Baldwin. Thelma held a variety of jobs throughout her life that included several civil service positions as a secretary and bookkeeper, book and record keeper for Dr. Riffel and the Bank of Bourbon. However, first and foremost, she was a homemaker; providing a loving haven for her husband and family. Thelma was an avid gardener and excelled in growing roses. Thelma was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon. She was also a long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 81 of Bourbon and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 105 of Sullivan.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Mroz and husband Ed of Washington, Missouri; one grandson, Jeremy Stephens and a great-granddaughter, Brianna Stephens; other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents and husband, Thelma was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Souders.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January13, 2011 from the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon with the Reverend Judy Jeffery officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery. Visitation was held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan.

Baker, Robert John, Sr.

Robert J. Baker Sr. of O’Fallon, MO, formerly of Sullivan, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2010, at the age of 85 years.

Robert was born on July 16, 1924 at Muskegon, Michigan to the late Rufus and Elsa Baker. He honorably serviced his country in the United States Army Air Corp. On July 15, 1944 Robert was united in marriage to Evialena Bottoms-Vest and three children were born to their union. Mr. Baker was employed for 17 years in the Dairy Industry and later by Busch Wildlife Reserve. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Baker lived on a farm on Chapel Hill Road. They donated five acres of their farm to be designated as New Chapel Hill Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.

He is survived by two sons, Robert J. Baker Jr and Milton G. Baker both of O’Fallon, five sisters, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his wife, Evialena Baker in 1996 and a daughter, Roseanne Marie Baker.

Services for Mr. Robert J. Baker Sr. were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in New Chapel Hill Cemetery with full military honors.

Bailey, Everett W.

Everett W. Bailey of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Monday, January 26, 2009 at the age of 88 years.

Mr. Bailey was born September 28, 1920 at Spring Bluff, Missouri to John and Myrtle (Garner) Bailey. He was a life long resident of the Sullivan area and on July 3, 1945 was married to Cecile Northcutt at St. Louis, Missouri. Everett honorably served his country with the U.S. Navy Seabees during W.W.II and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries received in the battle of Iwo Jima. Everett was known as a man who never met a stranger and was a man of his word. He was a salesman at the former Tucker-Bailey Ford Company in Sullivan and later with Modern Garage from which he retired. Everett enjoyed gigging with his friends and raising tomatoes and gardening. He was a 50 year member of the Sullivan Masonic Lodge #69, Past President of the Sullivan Kiwanis Club, and a former member of the V.F.W. and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He is survived by his wife Cecile of the family home, two sons, Dale Bailey of Imperial, Missouri and Don Bailey of Sullivan; one sister, Velma Foster of Hamilton, New South Wales; two grandchildren, Jason Bailey and Marissa Jones; one great-grandchild, Noah Jones; other relatives and many friends.

Along with his parents, Everett was preceded in death by a grandson, John William Bailey; a brother, Kenneth Bailey and a sister, Mildred Schneider.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in Oddfellows Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri. Masonic memorial services were held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home under the auspices of Sullivan Lodge #69 AF&AM.

Bailey, Clyde C.

Clyde C. Bailey of Sullivan, MO passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO January 29, 2011 at the age of 89 years.

Clyde was born January 21, 1922 in Sullivan, MO to Nelson and Mary (Carey) Bailey. He lived his life in the Sullivan/Spring Bluff area.

After working for the Missouri State Nursery and as a finisher at the International Shoe Company he worked 30 years for Ford Motor Company retiring in 1978 to pursue his love of hunting, fishing and his real passion of gardening and his famous tomatoes.

He served his country during World War II in Alsace-Lorraine, Germany, France and the mountains of Italy until his honorable discharge from the Army in 1945

Clyde will be remembered by his family and friends as loving, honest, generous and having a great sense of humor.

He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Witt and husband Sam of Sullivan, MO, and Mary Lyssy and husband Frank of San Marcos, TX; one son, James Bailey and wife Terri of Sullivan, MO; two step-sons, Ronald Duncan and wife Diane of Desoto, MO and Gary Duncan and wife Ruth of St. Louis, MO.; companion Julia Callahan; bother, Floyd (Red) Bailey; 9 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by wife Estella Bailey, son William Bailey, brother Lawrence Bailey, sisters Mabel Paul, Dorothy Burnett, Sylvia Gillespie, grandson, Patrick Witt.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2011 in the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Witt officiating. Burial followed in the Oddfellows Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.

Contributions and honorariums can be made in the name of Clyde Bailey to The Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Bacon, Frieda

Frieda Bacon nee Coffman of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Sunday, November 28, 2010, at the age of 85 years.

Frieda was born on November 19, 1925 in Granite City, Illinois to Alpha and Beulah (nee Payne) Coffman. She married Calvin Bacon on August 22, 1941 and to this union two children, Roger and Darlene, were born. Frieda loved to sew and cook. As much as she enjoyed meeting her friends at Hardees and McDonald's, her grandchildren were the main focus of her attention and love. She worked for International Shoe and later retired from Mid-west Shoe factory. Frieda regularly attended Temple Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Roger Bacon of St. Peters, Missouri, one daughter, Darlene Witt and husband, Odie of Sullivan, 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Ernie Coffman, a sister Rosemary Weiskopf, and two half-brothers, James and Junior Bobbitt.

Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery.

AuBuchon, Eva

Eva AuBuchon of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the age of 84 years.

Eva was born on April 10, 1924 in Bonne Terre, MO to Samuel and Theresa (Nee Chromoga) Sagan, one of 13 children. She married Albert AuBuchon on August 3, 1946 in Bonne Terre, MO, and to this union three children were born. She worked for many years in a drug store, purchasing supplies, delivering meds and designing displays. She loved to read and cook, but mostly spending time with her children, grandchildren and volunteering. She was a Pink Lady at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, and held several volunteer positions in the hospital and her church.

She is survived by her husband, Albert AuBuchon of the family home; two sons, Gordon AuBuchon of St. Louis, MO and Patrick AuBuchon and wife Cheryl of Union, MO; a daughter, Elaine AuBuchon, of School Sister of Notre Dame; six grandchildren, Aaron, Josh and wife Jesse, Jacob and wife Sarah, Kaila, Haley, and Maisy; two great-grandchildren, Cole & Morgan; one brother, Harry Sagan; two sisters, Theresa Boyd and Dorothy Brown; other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in St. Anthony Catholic Church, with Reverend Father John Patrick Day, C.P. officiating. Interment followed in St. Anthony Cemetery.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to St. Vincent DePaul in St. Anthony Church or School Sisters of Notre Dame in the name of Eva AuBuchon.
