Barbara E. Browne

Barbara E. Browne of Sullivan, Missouri passed away at her home on Monday, June 9, 2003 at the age of 64 years.

Barbara was born October 23, 1938 at Barbados, West Indies to Charles and Phyllis May (Marshall) Gilkes. She was raised in Barbados and in 1957 came to the United States to make her home. She became a naturalized citizen in 1970. In 1954 she accepted Christ as her savior and began a life of dedicated service to the Lord. In 1985 Barbara became a member of Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan and for a time taught Sunday school. She was very active in the church, helping out in the kitchen on Wednesday night fellowship, organizing fund drives for various missions and many other facets of the life of the church. She was a member of W.M.U.’s and found pleasure in crafts and crocheting.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of the family home, two sons, Mark and Matthew Browne both of Dallas, Texas, two daughters, Joanna Charlton of the state of Virginia, and Ruth Whitter of Desoto, Missouri, two brothers, Clarence Gilkes of Canada, and Trevor Gilkes of Antigua, West Indies, three sisters, Joy Banfield and Janet Sampson both of Barbados, West Indies, and Maureen Brace of Canada, 9 grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June12, 2003 from Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to Temple Baptist Church.

Opal A. Schatz

Opal A. Schatz of Osage Beach, Missouri, formerly of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2004 at the age of 100 years, 6 months and 7 days.

Mrs. Schatz was born February 12, 1904 at Sullivan, Missouri to the late John and Stella (Manion) Woodcock. She was a life-long resident of Sullivan until 6 years ago when she moved to Osage Beach to be with her daughter. Mrs. Schatz was first married to Elbert “Bert” Harmon in 1921 who preceded her in death. Later in life, in 1953, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Schatz. He too preceded her in death. In her younger days, Opal was employed at the former International Shoe Company in Sullivan for a number of years. Later, she was employed at the former Sullivan Community Hospital in the Dietary Department until her retirement. During the last two years, she has been very active in the social life at Osage Beach Health Care and participated in all of the activities, especially Bingo.

She is survived by one daughter, Jean Coffman of Linn Creek, Missouri, one step-son, Winston Harmon of House Springs, Missouri, a brother Vieman Woodcock of Bourbon, Missouri, one grandson, Ernest Coffman, three step-grandchildren, Jean Bird, Vicki Huttsell, and Jahn Harmon, four step-great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents and two husbands, Opal was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Claude, Budge and Homer Woodcock and a sister Vida who died in infancy.

Funeral services for Opal Schatz were conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2004 from the Hassebroek Funeral Chapel in Sullivan with Pastor Donald Wookcock officiating. Interment was in Anaconda Cemetery, rural St. Clair, Missouri.

Mae Grant

Mae Grant of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2003 at the age of 71 years.

Mae was born on April 21, 1932 at Sullivan, Missouri to Bryan and Edna (Phillips) Betz. She was a graduate of Sullivan High School and on June 3, 1951 was married to James H. Grant at Sullivan. Mae was a life-long resident of the Sullivan area except for a brief time when she and Jim made their home in Jefferson City. Mae was a 40-year employee of the Fidelity Telephone Company working as a data processing manager. She also kept the books for the Episcopal Church and was bookkeeper and secretary of the board of the Sullivan Country Club for many years. She was a member of the Sullivan Chamber of Commerce, volunteer and Pink Lady for the Sullivan Hospital Auxiliary. At one time she was a merit badge counselor for the Boy Scouts and was a member of the Pioneers, a telephone industry association. Mae also volunteered her time to serve lunches at the Sullivan Senior Center on many occasions. Mae also found pleasure being active in the various travel clubs in Sullivan and became quite a world traveler. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sullivan and was an ordained Elder and Deacon. She also sang in the church choir and participated in the handbell choir. Mae was known as a person who never complained, who was caring and helpful, and never knew a stranger.

She is survived by one son, Craig Grant and wife Deborah of Shawnee, Kansas, one daughter, Vicki Grant-Oberg and husband Rick of Camdenton, Missouri, one brother, Charlie Betz and wife Valeta of Sullivan, one sister, Helen Allen and husband Perry of Elsmore, Kansas, four grandchildren, Melanie Crump Tamm, Drew Crump, Megan Crump Kaufman and Chelsea Grant, one great-grandchild, Payton Tamm, her former son-in-law Jerry Crump of Sullivan, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents and husband Jim, Mae was preceded in death by a brother Bryan L. Betz, Jr.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2003 from the First Presbyterian Church in Sullivan with Rev. Ann Pitman officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri. Visitation for Mrs. Mae Grant was held from 5-9 p.m., Wednesday evening from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. Those who desire may make memorials to the Oncology Department of Missouri Baptist Hospital of Sullivan or the First Presbyterian Church. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

James (Jim) O'Neal, Sr.

James (Jim) O'Neal, Sr., of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Sunday, April 18, 2004 at the age of 74 years.

Mr. O'Neal was born March 6, 1930 at Moark, Arkansas to Stanley and Lula (Kinsey) O'Neal. He was raised and had lived in various parts of Missouri and Arkansas due to his father working in the timber business. On December 4, 1959 he was married to Bessie E. Wells at Waterloo, Illinois. For a time he was employed as a custodian at Sullivan Middle School and had also worked at the former Ramsey Plant for 17 years. He later retired from Tradco in Sullivan. Mr. O'Neal loved music and was an accomplished musician. He also was fond of animals. Mr. O'Neal was past Quartermaster of Russell Schmidt V.F.W. Post 3789 of Sullivan and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Sullivan. He was also a member of Pea Ridge Holiness Church near Sullivan.

He is survived by his wife Bessie of Sullivan, 8 children, John O'Neal and friend Gloria of Sullivan, William O'Neal and friend Pam of Sullivan, James O'Neal and wife Peggy of Bourbon, Russell Schlaitzer and wife Dianne of Sullivan, Danny Siffard and wife Elaine of the state of Texas, Shirley Brown of Bourbon, Linda Glasco and husband Eddie of Caseyville, Illinois and Sandy Jarvis of Potosi, Missouri, one brother, Stanley O'Neal of Bourbon, 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Mr. O'Neal was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Peters, five brothers, Clifford, Everett, Delmer, Elmer and Orvil Key, a son-in-law, Earl Brown and a niece Pat O'Neal.

Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2004 from the Pea Ridge Holiness Church with Pastor Alfred Morgan officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Harold B. Beaver

Harold B. Beaver, a Trustee of Oak Grove Village, MO, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at the age of 52 years.

Harold was born on May 30, 1954 to Harold and Alice (nee Hall) Beaver in Pennsylvania. He has been a truck driver for many years and is currently a Trustee for Oak Grove Village. Harold enjoyed gardening and making yard ornaments, but his favorite hobby was his trains; even living next to the train tracks in real life.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda (nee Seaboalt) Beaver, 5 children, Justin Beaver and wife Andrea of Lebanon, MO, Robert Beaver, Chris Beaver, Andrew Schneider, and Melissa Strauser all of Sullivan, a sister, Carolyn Walters of Pennsylvania, and one grandchild, Riker Beaver, other relatives and friends.

A private wake celebrating the life of Harold Beaver was conducted on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donation to H.A. L. O. Animal Shelter in the name of Harold Beaver. Arrangements were under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Donald H. Door

Donald H. Door of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 in Missouri Baptist Hospital at Des Peres, Missouri at the age of 73 years.

Don, as he was known by his family and friends, was born at Stanton, Missouri on January 29, 1933 to the late Joseph and Priscilla (Simmerly) Door. He had lived his entire life in the Sullivan area and was employed with the Sullivan Municipal Utilities Electric Department. Don retired after 22 years of service. He honorably served his country during the Korean War with the US Army and was given a battlefield commission to the rank of Sergeant. Don loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taught them to hunt and fish as well.

He is survived by five children, Carol, Eddie, Diana, Debbie and Cathy, two sisters, Shirley Bell and Marie Mazar; 15 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife Docia (Babe) Lang, three brothers, Joseph (Pete), Robert (Boze) and Mike Door and one sister, Pauline Door.

Private family services were held. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Ronnie Mills

Ronnie Mills, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on April 5, 2005 at the age 56 years.

He was born on January 29, 1949, to Dewey and Lottie (Jackson) Mills in Detroit, Michigan. He spent most of his life in the Williamsburg, Kentucky area and worked for many years for the American Greeting Company in Corbin, Kentucky.

Ronnie is survived by one daughter, JoAnn Blankenship and husband Charlie of Sullivan, one son, Craig Allen Mills of Florida, one brother, Willard Mills and wife Wanda of Michigan, and four sisters, Linda Parks and husband Edward of Michigan, Wilma Johnston and husband James, Patsy Walters and husband Bobbie, and Bonnie Terry all of Kentucky, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Ronald Timothy Mills.

Memorial Funeral Services for Ronnie Mills will be held in Kentucky at a future date. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Walter Wayne Ward

Walter Wayne Ward of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Monday, February 7, 2005 at the age of 71 years.

Wayne, as he was known by his family and friends, was born October 6, 1932 to Lucille Jackson Ward and the late Walter Ward. He graduated high school at Armstrong, Missouri after which he entered the arm services in the Air Force. Wayne honorably served his country during the Korean War. After his discharge in June of 1956, he went to work for McDonnell-Douglas Corp. in St. Louis. He worked where approximately 12 years as an inspector. Wayne later was self-employed in a commercial cleaning business from which he retired. In 1957 he was united in marriage to Ruby Roark at Ballwin, Missouri. Ruby preceded him in death in January of 1992. Wayne professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, St. Clair, Missouri.

He is survived by his mother, Lucille Ward of Ashland, Missouri, one brother, Larry Ward of Steedman, Missouri, two sisters, Marveina Ward and Janice Bowser both of Columbia, Missouri, brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Rose Smith of Bourbon, Missouri, a special niece Theresa whom he loved as his own, other relatives and friends. Along with his wife Ruby and father Walter, Wayne was also preceded in death by a brother Donnie Ward.

Graveside funeral services were conducted 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2005 in Prospect Cemetery, Lonedell, Missouri. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Robert S. LaChance

Robert S. LaChance of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Monday, January 03, 2005 at the age of 79 years.

Bob, as he was known by his family and friends, was born May 22, 1925 at Flat River, Missouri to the late Louis and Julia (Politte) LaChance. He was raised in the Flat River area and later graduated high school there. In high school he was an avid sportsman excelling in tennis and softball. After high school, Bob honorably served his country with the US Navy as a Sea Bee and saw action in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Bob was known as everyone’s good friend, as he was good natured and was pleasant to be around. He was a champion horse shoe pitcher and loved sports especially fishing and hunting. Bob was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Sullivan, Past Treasurer of Russell Schmidt VFW Post No. 3987 of Sullivan, member of the American Legion of Sullivan and a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Arie No. 3781.

He is survived by his wife Joanna nee Jinkerson of the family home, three daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Leroy Moon of Loveland, Colorado, Linda and Sherman Gann of Pacific, Missouri, and Mary Ann and Bill Splittorff of Bourbon, Missour, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two brothers, Emory and Delos (Doggie) LaChance and four sisters, Margaret Williams, Wilma Berniece Jones, Izetta LaChance and Mary Elizabeth McDowell.

Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 6, 2005 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri with the Rev. Dr. Bart Hildreth officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri. Visitation for Mr. Robert Lachance was held from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday evening. VFW memorial services were conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday followed by Fraternal Order of Eagle services at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Fund in the name of Robert Lachance.
