Shirley E. Buhl

Shirley E. Buhl of Sullivan passed away Sunday, November 10, 2002 at the age of 65 years.

Shirley was born August 21, 1937 to the late James Harley and Marjorie May (Gruwell) Brown as Sullivan, Missouri. On October 30, 1954 she was married to Eldred L. Buhl in the Tunica, Mississippi and they made their home in Sullivan their entire lives. Shirley was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her family very much. On December 10, 1998 Mr. Buhl preceded her in death and she always looked forward to seeing him again. Shirley was employed by Walmart for five years. She was a member of Trinity Full Gospel Tabernacle. She enjoyed attending services and especially loved the singing. She collected angels and Christmas was her favorite time of year. Shirley was described as the peacemaker of the family. Her family was her life, and she would do anything for them. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends but has joined her husband in Heaven.

She is survived by two sons, Ray Buhl and wife, Linda, Ahren Buhl and wife, Tammy all of Sullivan, one daughter, Tammie Mullen and husband, Michael of Sullivan, one brother, Tracy Brown and wife, Dorothy of Gerald, one sister, Dorothy Wheeler of Cuba, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by two children in infancy, three brothers, Clifford, Haskel and Clinton Brown, two sisters, Verla Brown and Beulah Delcour.

Funeral services were conducted 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2002 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Rev. Jared Gillam officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.

Sylvia Gillespey

Sylvia Irene Gillespey of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2002 at the age of 79 years.

Sylvia was born March 24, 1923 to the late Nelson and Mary (Carey) Bailey at St. Clair, Missouri. Most of her life was lived in the Sullivan area. She was married to Jack Gillespey who preceded her in death on July 28, 1974. Sylvia was employed in the shoe industry for many years. First by the former Fashion Shoe, then Midwest Shoe and later the Brown Shoe Company. After retirement from the shoe factory she was employed by the former Sullivan Hospital in the central sterile department. Her most recent job was attendant at Sudsy’s Laundromat. She enjoyed crafts and loved spending time with her sons and grandchildren. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge Sullivan Chapter #319.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Gillespey and Randy Gillespey both of Sullivan, two brothers, Clyde and Floyd Bailey of Sullivan, one sister, Dorothy Burnett, five grandchildren, Jack J. Gillespey II, Tara Schroeder, Amanda Delmont, Kristin Taylor, and Brian Gillespey, six great-grandchildren, Dylan and Steffanie Summers, Robert Schroeder III, Jack J. Gillespey, Jr., Sydney Skyles, and Piper Delmont, special friends, Mary Etta Lewis and Peggy Stroup, other relatives and friends. Along with he parents and husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Bailey, two sisters, Mable Paul and one sister in infancy.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Hadley William Koelling

Hadley William Koelling of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at the age of 91 years.

Mr. Koelling was born, the youngest of 10 children, near Sullivan on December 18, 1910 to Florence and Sophia (Boettermueller) Koelling. He was a long-time resident of the St. Louis area but had also lived for a time in Oregon working in the timber trade. In St. Louis, he was employed by McDonnell-Douglas and retired from there in 1973. He was known as a “Jack of all Trades” who was generous and always happy to see family and friends.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Carol and Thomas Mudd of St. Peter’s Missouri a dear friend Wilhelmine Halmick of Sullivan, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in Dutch Hill Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Hadley Koelling will be from 3:30 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Those who desire may make memorials to the American Diabetes Association in the name of Hadley Koelling.

Joy Elaine Prewitt

Joy Elaine Prewitt of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2002 at the age of 42 years.

Joy was born on February 26, 1960 at Gideon, Missouri to Charles Henry and Della Loretta (Matthews) Young. On July 14, 1990 she was married to L. Dean Prewitt at Steelville, Missouri. She was known as a woman who loved her family and who was outgoing and very friendly to all. Joy was an accomplished softball player and also enjoyed fishing and floating the river.

She is survived by her husband Dean Prewitt of the family home, two sons, James Willard Stoutt III of Sullivan, Lowell Dean Prewitt of Valley Park, Missouri, two daughters, Brandy Jean Stoutt of Sullivan and Brandee Michelle Prewitt of Sullivan, two brothers, John Toth and Allen Toth both of St. Louis and two sisters, Sharon Neal and Beth Barnett both of St. Louis, four grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Along with her parents, Joy was preceded in death by a brother Butch Barnett and one grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Tom Wehrman officiating. Interment was in Cave Spring Cemetery.

Doris LeClaire

Doris Marie LeClaire of Gerald, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2002 at the age of 66 years.

Mrs. LeClaire was born on November 13, 1935 at Gerald, Missouri to Julius John and Hilda Marie (Bartel) Meyer. She was a life-long resident of the Gerald area and was known as a devoted wife and mother who loved her grandchildren and family. Doris was also a life-long member of St. Paul’s Untied Church of Christ of Gerald where she was married to Gerald E. LeClaire on October 2, 1954.

She is survived by her husband Gerald of the family home, two daughters, Sue Altemeyer and husband Bob, Brenda Kosark and husband Randy all of Gerald, her mother, Hilda Marie Meyer of Gerald, one brother, Bill Meyer of Owensville, Missouri, two sisters, Bonnie Ehlers and Joyce Farrell both of Gerald, four grandchildren, Kari Evans and husband Scott, Kris Altemeyer, Zach and Sam Kosark, other relatives and friends.

A memorial funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2002 from St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Gerald. Interment was private. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Mary M. Hutschreider

Mary M. Hutschreider of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Friday, November 1, 2002 at the age of 76 years.

Mary was born on March 9, 1926 at Rolla, Missouri to the Rev. James and Louisa (Jackson) Adair. She had lived in Rolla until her teenage years when the family then moved to St. Louis, Missouri. In 1971 she moved to the Bourbon area. For a time the Bourbon School System employed her as a Dietary Aide but for the most part, she was a dedicated housewife and mother. She was known as a Christian lady and Prayer Warrior who loved the Lord. Mary was also fond of the outdoors. On August 23, 1946 she was married to Milo Hutschrieder at Russellville, Missouri. Mr. Hutschrieder preceded Mary in death in February of 1989.

She is survived by her daughter, Pat Wideman and husband Randy of Bourbon, three sisters, Gladys Piscitelli, Hazel Adair and Emma Tullock all of Bourbon, Missouri, one brother, Leroy Adair and wife Jewell of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, two grandchildren, Curtis Rogers and Christopher Rogers and wife Renee’, one great-grandchild, Nathan Rogers, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, a great-great-nephew, other relatives and friends. Along with her husband and parents, Mary was preceded death by a brother, Clyde Adair and a sister, Opal Adams.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon with Pastor John Beckett officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery .

Roy Bay, Jr.

Roy L. Bay, Jr. of St. Clair passed away Monday, October 28, 2002 at the age of 73 years.

Roy was born August 25, 1929 at St. Louis, Missouri to the late Roy L. Bay, Sr. and Lula (Noakes) Bay. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Metal with one Bronze Star and also a Purple Heart. On August 25, 1967 Roy was married to Dorothy Mercer Chadd. For over thirty years they made their home on Ennis Rock Road in St. Clair. Mrs. Bay preceded him in death in 1987. Roy was employed by the Chrysler Corporation in Fenton, Missouri for 28 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion of St. Clair, Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie #3781 and Russell Schmidt V.F.W. Post 3987. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his many friends.

He is survived by three step-sons, Dan Chadd and wife, Sandy of Sullivan, David Witwer of San Francisco, California, Darryl Witwer and wife, Nancy of Richmond, Virginia, one step-daughter, Donna O’Dell and husband, Marvin of Lebanon, Missouri, six brothers, Vernie, Henry, Gene, George, Eddie and Elmer Bay, four sisters, Rosie and Fern Bay, Deloris McHenry, and Edith Walnich, five step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Along with his parents and wife, Roy was preceded in death by five brothers, Harvey, Lloyd, Louis, Paul and Isaac Bay, two sisters, Thelma and Helen Bay, and one step grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2002 from the Hassebroek Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Lewis officiating. Interment was in Reedville Cemetery. All arrangements under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

John C. (Buss) Dilks

John C. (Buss) Dilks of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Thursday, October 17, 2002 at the age of 76 years.

Buss, as he was known by family and friends, was born August 29, 1926 at Anthonies Mill, Missouri to the late Etna I. and Susan Irene (Declue) Dilks. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He received an Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Victory Metal, Good Conduct Metal, Army of Occupation Metal, Japan and the Patriotic Service Award for World War II Veterans. On April 22, 1950 Buss was married to Virginia M. Studdard at the First Baptist Church in Sullivan. Two children were born to their marriage. The Dilks family made their home on Maple Street for twenty years, later moving to the family farm on Highway 185 South. They lived there until 1995 when they moved closer to town. Buss was employed by General Motors for 30 years as a welder. Even in his working years he loved being outdoors and spent as much time as possible farming, hunting, fishing, and especially Coon hunting. Buss also coached Khoury League Baseball for many years. Mr. Dilks was a member of the Missouri Coon Hunters Association and Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie # 3781. Buss was a generous, giving person who never met a stranger. He loved his family and the St. Louis Cardinals and also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Dilks was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Dilks of Sullivan, one son, James Dilks and wife, Kathy of Sullivan, one daughter, Betty Glidewell and husband, Gerald of Fenton, one brother, Dude Dilks and wife, Pat of Sullivan, one brother in-law, Eddie Ellison of St. Clair, nine grandchildren, Bill Nichols and wife, Jennifer, Melissa Harman and husband, Jeremiah, Aaron John Dilks and wife, Kerry, Angie Dilks, Aaron Lee Luttrell, Christina Lewis and husband, Larry, Robert McGuire and wife, Denise, Ross Glidewell and wife, Tammy, John Glidewell; ten great-grandchildren, Kathlyn Glidewell, Alisha and Amber Nichols, Lily Dilks, Eryn Cain, Rebecca and Breanna McGuire, Alexandria and Erika Lewis, and Emily Glidewell, nieces, nephew, other relatives and many friends. Along with his parents, Buss was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Dilks and two sisters, Virginia Ellison and Flossie Key.

Funeral services were conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Dr. Bart Hildreth officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given the American Heart Association in memory of Buss Dilks.

Golden Irene Puckett

Golden Irene Puckett of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on October 15, 2002 at the age of 88 years.

Mrs. Puckett was born on March 27, 1914 to William Thomas and Dora Ellen (Kinworthy) Ray. She was raised in the Leasburg, Missouri area and had lived her entire life in the Bourbon/Leasburg area. Her various vocations in life included being a cook at school, working for Herb’s Meat Locker and waitressing at Sweeny’s Resturant. She found pleasure in gardening and was known as a wonderful cook. Mrs. Puckett was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon.

She is survived by one son, Gary Puckett of Hannah, Wyoming, two daughters, Bonnie Erni of Bourbon, Missouri and Jo Ann Dobkins of Hannah, Wyoming, one brother, Harold Ray of Leasburg, Missouri, 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Golden was preceded in death by a brother Cecil Ray.

Graveside committal services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2002 in Crossroads Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. Arrangements are under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
