Butts, James Andrews
James Andrews Butts, 78, of Batesville, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at his residence of Parkinson's Disease.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 2, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Rev. Alan Kilgore and Rev. Aubrey Moore officiated the service. Burial followed in Rose Hill cemetery in Sardis. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Butts, son of the late Oscar Powell and Jessie Mae Andrews Butts, was born icon December 12, 1923, in Batesville. He was a cashier clerk for Illinois Central Railroads and a member of the Batesville First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Lee Boatright Butts of Batesville; two daughters, Betty Sue Hopper of Little Rock, Ark.; and Donna Lynn Carnes of Seattle, Washington; two sons James Lee Butts of Ripley and Leslie Powell "Smiley" Butts of Batesville; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168 St., New York, NY 10032-9982, 1-800-457-6676.

Butts, Lizzie R.
Lizzie R. Butts, 68, of Como, died Saturday, February 9, 2002, at North Oak Regional Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 16, at 1 PM at Liberty Hill C.M.E. Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Butts was a housewife and was a member of Liberty Hill C.M.E. Church, where she was on the usher board.

Survivors include her husband, Jack D. Butts of Como; three daughters, Gloria Mitchell, Irma Butts and Martha Danner, all of Como; four sons, David Butts, Kiley Butts and Fred Butts, all of Como, and Melvin Butts of Oxford; two sisters, May Nordwood of Sardis and Louise Renix of Como; two brothers, Willie Renix of Como and George Renix of Memphis, Tennessee; 31 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Byrd, Joseph Arthur
Joseph Arthur Byrd, 40, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Como, died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at his home of diabetes.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Norman Holliday officiated the service. Burial was in Emory cemetery near Como. Moore Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Byrd, son of the late Blye and Lenora Jackson Byrd, was born icon November 10, 1961, in Memphis. He was a horticulturist at Memphis Botanic Gardens and a Methodist.

Survivors include a brother, Bill Byrd of Oxford.

Callicott, Ethel B.
Ethel B. Callicott, 79, of Como, died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at her home of heart disease.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 19, at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer M.B. Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Callicott, a native of Panola County, was a homemaker. She was the widow of the late Jack Callicott.

Survivors include two daughters, Bettye J. Callicott and Georgia M. Callicott, both of Como; a son, Jessie Frank Callicott of Chicago, Illinois; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren.

Campbell, Clercy Lavelle Chrestman
Clercy Lavelle Chrestman Campbell, 83, of Batesville, died Thursday, September 12, 2002, at her home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 14, at 2 p.m. at Dickins Chapel. Rev. Alan Kilgore and Rev. Dr. Johnny Spencer officiated the service. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Campbell, daughter of the late William Bolivar and Irene Foster Chrestman, was born icon November 12, 1918, in Calhoun County. She was a quality control supervisor for Panola Mills and a member of First United Methodist Church in Batesville.

Survivors include two sisters, Vadie Hawkins and Velma Faulkner, both of Batesville.

Campbell, Larry Lee
Larry Lee "Bubba" Campbell, 33, of Batesville, died Monday, September 9, 2002, at his home of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 13, at 2 p.m. at Dickins Chapel. Hal Johnson and Joel E. White will officiate the service. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Dickins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Campbell, son of Larry Ray Campbell and Bette Hunter Moore, both of Batesville, was born icon July 27, 1969, in Marks. He was disabled and a member of the Church of Christ in Courtland.

Survivors, other than his parents, include his step-father, Earlie Moore of Batesville; a grandmother, Aline Melton of Batesville; a brother, Dennis Moore of Batesville; three sisters, Melissa Hughes of Manassas, Virginia, Lisa Moore and Janice Moore, both of Batesville; five nephews and two nieces.

Carlton, Leslie
Leslie Carlton, 86, of Batesville, died Wednesday, December 4, 2002, at the State Veterans Nursing Home in Oxford, MS of heart failure.

Services were Sunday, December 8, 2002, at Batesville Church of Christ. Interment was at Batesville Magnolia cemetery. Robert Rawson, Hal Johnson, Michael Bates, and Rev. Audrey Crouch officiated services. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Carlton, son of the late James Robert Carlton, and the late Missouri Williams Carlton, was born icon September 3, 1916, in Lodi, MS. He was a pulp wood buyer for Georgia Pacific. He was a Veteran of WWII and a member of Batesville Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Juathena Humphrey Carlton of Batesville, one son, Robert Leslie Carlton, of Optimus, AR, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Obie, Eris, John, and Bufaord Carlton; and five sisters, Agnes, Addie, Ruby, Katie, and Lallie Carlton.

Memorial contributions can be sent to Magnolia Messager, and Sardis Lake Christian Camp.

Childress, Bobbie Jean Bland
Bobbie Jean Bland Childress, 69, of Horn Lake, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - DeSoto in Southaven of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 20, at 4 p.m. at Dickins Chapel. Bro. Harold Smith officiated the service. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Childress, daughter of the late Allen Smith and Gemell Beirchfeild Bland, was born icon November 21, 1932, in Panola County. She was a retired factor worker.

Survivors include a son, Doyle Allen of Weir; three daughters, B.J. Lucky of Olive Branch, Margaret Childress of Stewart and Sue Nelms of Weir; three brothers, Bill Bland of Crowder, Pete Bland of Marks and Louis Bland of Sledge; seven sisters, Jackie Bailey and Helen Bell, both of Marks, Lois Daniels and Elouise Williams, both of Batesville, Betty Ann Sanders of Memphis, Tennessee, Mary Nell Rosamond of Sardis and Linda Jean Bland of Crowder; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Chrestman, Louise O'Bannon
Louise O'Bannon Chrestman, 86, of Batesville, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 10, at 10 a.m. at Dickins Chapel. Travis Avaritt will officiate the service. Burial will be in Batesville Magnolia cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Chrestman, daughter of the late Thomas and Mollie M. File O'Bannon, was born icon January 13, 1916, in Tallahatchie County. She was a homemaker and a member of Jehovah Witness. She was the widow of the late J.R. Chrestman.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennie Hollinger of Standardville, Virginia; four sons, Danny Chrestman of Memphis, Tennessee, David Chrestman, John Chrestman and Joel Chrestman, all of Batesville; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Batesville Magnolia cemetery.

Young, Jennifer Russell
Jennifer Russell Young, 30, of Sardis, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, of a homicide.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at Rock Hill M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial is at Rock Hill cemetery. Rev. Clifton Ward will officiate. Cooley's Mortuary has charge.

Young, born icon April 9, 1973, to the late Charlie Russell and the late Rosizetta Bell Russell, was a housewife.

Survivors include her husband John Dale Young; one son John Darius Young; her grandfather Earnest Bell, Sr.; 10 sisters, Vickie Russell, Pamela Russell, Barbara Ann Russell, Rose Marie Russell, Charlene Austin, Carlene Riley, Sandra Watson, Bernice Dunnigan, Linda Buck, and Brizell Russell, all of Sardis; nine brothers, Steve Russell, Hal Clay Russell, Phil Russell, Robert Russell, James T. Russell, Charles Milton Russell, and Alvin Russell, all of Sardis, David Russell of Senatobia and George Craig Russell of Milwaukee, Wis.

Young, Tommy D.
Tommy D. Young, 16, of Batesville died Saturday, April 19, 2003, on Highway 51 North, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Funeral services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at Batesville Jr. High School Auditorium. The body will lie in repose Saturday at Batesville Jr. High School auditorium from 10 to 11 a.m. Rev. Ozine Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Viney Creek cemetery in Sardis. Cooley's Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Young, born icon May 29, 1986 to Rosephine Young and Tommy Strong, both of Batesville, was a student at South Panola High School and a member of Viney Creek Church.

Survivors in addition to his parents include his brother, Eddie D. Young of Batesville, and his grandmother Dorothy H. Young of Batesville.

Cirilli, John Tony
John Tony Cirilli, 65, of Water Valley, died Thursday, January 17, 2002, at his residence of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 21, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Charleston. Burial was in Magnolia Garden cemetery in Charleston, Newsom Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Cirilli, husband of Dorothy Browing Cirilli, was born icon June 24, 1936. He was a sports fishing guide and a retired railroad worker.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Theresa Gray of Tupelo; two sons, Mark Cirilli and Les Vaughn both of Water Valley; two sisters, Shirley Justice of Clarksdale and Anges Stewart of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.; two brothers, Louis Cirilli and Bobby Cirilli both of Clarksdale; and three grandchildren.

Clark, Billy W.
Billy W. Clark, 38, of Sardis, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 3, at 11 a.m. at Senatobia Gospel Temple Church in Senatobia. Elder Robert Earl Barber officiated the service. Burial was in Askew Grove cemetery in Longtown. Cooley's Mortuary, Inc. had charge of arrangements.

Clark, son of Winnie L. Griffin of Sardis and the late James A. Clark, was born icon April 10, 1964, in Panola County. He was a truck driver for Choctaw Trucking, Inc. in Como and a member of Pleasant Grove M.B. Church.

Survivors, other than his mother, include his stepfather, Charlie Griffin of Sardis; grandparents, Clara Perry of Sardis, and Dempsey Caldwell of Batesville; three brothers, Larry Clark and Patrick Clark, both of Sardis, and Leonard Poindexter of Nashville, Tennessee; and four sisters, Doris Clark, Aretha Aikens and Vivian D. Clark, all of Senatobia, and Joyce Lynn Clark of Crenshaw.
