Gene D. Brunt, 62, of Sardis, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at his residence.

Services were Saturday at Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como. Burial was at Cistern Hill cemetery. Rev. Bobby Walker officiated. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.

Brunt, born icon Feb. 4, 1941, to the late William G. Brunt and Rosie Brunt was a mechanical operator and a member of Mt. Level M.B. Church.

Survivors include his mother Rosie Presley of Sardis; his wife Gail M. Brunt of Sardis; three daughters, Venisha Brunt and Alisha Brunt, both of Sardis and Lisa Brunt of Chicago, Ill.; three sons, Ronald Brunt, Leroy Brunt and Gene Brunt, all of Chicago, Ill.; five sisters, Gertrude Henderson, Deborah Brimmer, both of Sardis, Erma Wilson, Patricia McGhel and Ernestine Presley, all of Memphis; five brothers, Rev. Jessie Brunt, Leroy Presley and George Presley, all of Chicago, Carl Presley and Terry Presley, both of Sardis; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Bryant, John J. Jr.
John J. Bryant Jr., 42, of Charleston, died Friday, September 19, 2003, at his residence.

Services were Sunday at the First Baptist Church. Burial was in Charleston. Newsom Funeral Home had charge.

Bryant, born icon Feb. 13, 1961, was a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife Cindy Rounsaville Bryant; his mother Madge Bryant of Batesville; one daughter Ashley B. Williams of Charleston; one son John J. Bryant III of Charleston; one sister Charlotte McCathren of Batesville; two brothers, Daniel Bryant and Samuel Bryant, both of Batesville and one grandchild.

Bryant, Samuel David "Davy" III
Samuel David "Davy" Bryant, III, 7, of Batesville, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, North Mississippi of heart failure.

Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Kevin Crofford officiated services. Well Funeral Home had charge.

Bryant was born icon June 22, 1995, in Clarksdale to Olivia M. Phelps and Samuel David Bryant Jr., both of Batesville.

Survivors include, in addition to his parents, his step-mother Tammy Bryant; two sisters, Morgan Booth and Savannah Bryant; one brother, Hunter Bryant; one step-sister, Kristen Sneed; grandparents, Linda C. Phelps, Samuel and Patty Broome Bryant, and Donald Phelps; step-grandparents, Angie Phelps, Monty and Jo Ann Patterson Ware; great-grandparents, Mary Frances Tidwell, Frances Madge Bryant, Martha and Bernard Phelps, all of Batesville; and great-great grandparents, Horace and Ruby Goforth of Sardis.

Buckley, Leon
Leon Buckley, 51, of Boston, Mass., died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003.

Services were at Twelfth Baptist Church in Roxbury, Mass. Rev. Waters officiated. Interment was in Fairview cemetery in Boston.

Buckley, born icon Jan. 19, 1952, in Charleston to Lorine and the late John Buckley, graduated from Patton Lane High School in Batesville. He was president of the Hi-Y Club and played on the basketball and football team. He attended Quincy Jr. College and Northeastern University. He was a Boston Police Officer for over 20 years.

Buckley professed his religion early in life as a member of the Popular Springs Baptist Church. He sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.

He is survived by his wife, Lena Buckley and children Michelle Leon, Ernest and Shari Buckley and one grandson. He is also survived by brothers; John Buckley of Chicago, Ill., Harvey Buckley of Boston, Mass., and Robert Buckley of Mass.; sisters, Erma Buckley of New York, Mary Buckley of Miami, Fla., Vera Buckley of Boston, Mass., Dr. Alice Buckley of Detroit, Mich., Viola and Arbie Jo Buckley of Miss.

Burgess, Sherlena "Penny"
Sherlena "Penny" Burgess, 23, of Southaven, died Sunday, September 14, 2003, of a homicide.

Services were Sunday at Second Concord M.B. 4-Way Church in Batesville. Burial was at Second Concord cemetery. Rev. Joseph Wilson officiated. Cooley's Mortuary had charge.

Burgess, born icon April 22, 1980, to Lorane Burgess and Shirley McKinney Burgess, was the assistant manager for Foot Action in Memphis, a member of Second Concord M.B. Church and a choir member.

Survivors include her parents, Lorane and Shirley Burgess of Batesville; two brothers Shedrick McKinney of Waterloo, Iowa and Lorane Burgess Jr. of Batesville and her grandparents, J.D. and Annie McKinney of Batesville.

Burks, Bobby Dean
Bobby Dean Burks, 71, of Crowder, died Friday, May 16, 2003, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks of cancer.

Services were Sunday at Kimbro Funeral Home. Burial was at Crowder cemetery. Ronnie Scott officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Burks, born icon Jan. 17, 1932, to the late Dora Burks and the late Adell Robbins Allen, was a retired auto parts supplier.

Survivors include three daughters, Darlene McGregor of Crowder, Carolyn Cruse of Pocahontas, Tenn. and Tracy Winters Sorsby of Elaine, Ark.; two sons David Filyaw of Memphis and Aaron Winters of Jackson; three sisters, Vivian Wimberly, Eloise Simpson and Betty Ann Goodson, all of Calhoun City; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Burnett, Mae Edwards
Mae Edwards Burnett, 89, of Southaven, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto in Southaven.

Graveside services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Batesville Magnolia cemetery. Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven has charge.

Burnett, born icon July 11, 1914, to the late Thomas and Cornelia Nickles, was a housewife and a member of Longcrest Baptist Church in Memphis.

She is preceded in death by her husband H.W. Burnett and son Donald Burnett.

Survivors include four daughters, Eleanor Wilkerson of Memphis, Judy Snell, Glenda Burnett and Connie Burnett, all of Southaven; two sons, Glenn Burnett of Olive Branch and Paul Burnett of Longview, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Specified memorials may be sent to Longview Baptist Church in Memphis.

Burns, Margaret Elizabeth Fowler
Margaret Elizabeth Fowler Burns, 85, of Batesville, died Jan. 24, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare of heart failure.

Services were Sunday at Dickens Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Chapel Hill cemetery. Rev. Allen Parnell and Rev. Billy Byrd officiated services. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Burns, born icon Dec. 15, 1918, to the late Mrs. Nettie Hyland Fowler and the late Mr. Angelo Fowler, was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Roy Burns of Courtland and Gary Burns of Memphis, Tenn.; six daughters, Brenda Cagle of Millington, Tenn., Margaret Bernice Fox and Linda Paige both of Sardis, Lona Porter of Coldwater, and Yvonne Odom and Peggy Melton both of Courtland; five brothers, Doug Fowler, Rupert Fowler and Coleman Fowler, all of Courtland, Billy Ray Fowler of Conroe, Texas., and Harry Fowler of Walnut; two sisters, Osie Fay White of Nacogdoches, Texas., and Irene Porter of Courtland; 32 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Burns was preceded in death by five sons, James Burns, Rocky Burns, Wayne Burns, Tommy Burns, and Haywood Burns, Jr.

Butler, Artanya M. "Sha"
Artanya M. "Sha" Butler, 29, of Horn Lake, died after an illness Saturday, May 3, 2003, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at Concord M.B. Church in Batesville. Burial will be at Macedonia cemetery. Pastor Gary Faulkner will officiate. Cooley's Mortuary has charge.

Butler, born icon March 19, 1974, to Wesley Butler and Flora Baker Butler, was the co-manager at Wal-Mart in Southaven and a member of Cumming Street M.B. Church in Memphis.

Survivors include her mother Flora Butler of Batesville; her father Wesley Butler of Batesville; four sisters, Trixy Butler of Batesville, Shannon Butler, Priscilla Wallace, both of Charlotte, N.C. and Sturleen Morris of Oxford and one brother Taplis Butler of Batesville.

Dandridge, Francine
Francine Dandridge, 62, of Sardis, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at U.T. Bowld Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 4, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. W. O. McKinney officiated the service. Burial was in Cistern Hill cemetery in Como. Henderson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Dandridge, daughter of the late Joe Nathan and Sarah Davis Dandridge, was born icon December 2, 1939, in Panola County. She was a domestic worker and a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church.

Survivors include three sons, Mark Dandridge of Wood Bridge, Virginia, Marcus Dandridge of Japan and Mario Dandridge of Sardis; and three sisters, Jennie Hardin, Gertrude Parks and Ora Dandridge, all of Sardis.

Daniels, Jessie Willie
Jessie Willie Daniels, 53, of Como, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - East in Memphis, Tennessee, of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 6, at 1 p.m. at Hunter Chapel M.B. Church. Burial was in Cistern Hills cemetery in Como. C.O. Pate Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Daniels was a factory worker at ITT and a member of Hunter Chapel M.B. Church.

Survivors include an aunt, Beatrice Simmons, who raised and cared for him; three sisters, Julian Daniels of Oceola, Arkansas, Barbara Jean Daniels of Meadville, Pennsylvania, and Lula Daniels of Atlanta, Georgia; and nine brothers, Wallace Daniels of Como, Leroy Nelson of Chicago, Illinois, Cleveland Daniels, III, Johnny Daniels, Michael Daniels, Jerome Daniels and Reginald Daniels, all of Meadville, Pennsylvania, Myron Daniels of East St. Louis, Illinois, and Gregory Daniels of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Daniels, Shadwick Sr.
Shadwick Daniels, Sr., 84, of Water Valley, died Thursday, August 8, 2002, at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 11, at 2 p.m. at Church of God in Christ in Water Valley. Burial was in Oakridge cemetery. Nicholson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Daniels, son of the late Hekial and Irene Daniels, was born icon April 25, 1918, in Yalobusha County. He was self-employed and a member of Church of God in Christ in Water Valley.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include a son, Shadwick Daniels, Jr. of Oakland; two daughters, Shirley Hentz of Coffeeville and Charlene Brown of Chicago, Illinois; and three sisters, Luella Turner and Bertha Judson, both of Water Valley, and Evelyn Conway of Chicago.
