Mangrum, Howard "Dick"
Howard "Dick" Mangrum, 56, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Como, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Services will be Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist M.B. Church in Memphis, Tenn. with interment at Morris Chapel cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Fred Brown, Jr. will officiate services. Cooley's Mortuary has charge.
Mangrum, born
Oct. 10, 1946, to Willie Golden and Robenna Abrams of Como, was a construction worker and a member of Independence Tyro Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mangrum of Memphis, Tenn.; his mother, Robenna Abrams of Como; three sons, Kenneth T. Mangrum of Nashville, Tenn., Christopher A. Edwards of McKinney, Texas., Micheal Jones of Batesville; seven sisters, Dorothy Burdette of Sardis, Mae Linda Golden of Memphis, Tenn., Shirley Golden of Sardis, Sara Mae Hill, Pam Abrams, and Roberta Hardy, all of Como, and Brenda Johnson of Senatobia; five brothers, James Golden and Edward Golden, both of Longtown, Jerry Golden of Sardis, Edward Abrams of Memphis, Tenn., and Benard Abrams of Como; and three grandchildren.
Mangum, Thomas Travis
Thomas Travis Mangum, 60, of Batesville, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at his residence of heart failure.
Services were Wednesday. at Dickins Chapel in Batesville. Burial was at Batesville - Magnolia cemetery. Rev. Al Mullin officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Mangum, born
Oct. 1, 1943, to the late Thomas Tindall Mangum and the late Mable Hodges Mangum, was the Water & Waste Superintendent for the Corps of Engineers. He was a Veteran of Vietnam Helicopter Crew Members Assoc., a veteran of Vietnam Conflicts, and a member of V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife Ophelia Landreth Mangum of Batesville; one son Thomas Edwin Mangum of Hernando; three daughters, Tracy Elaine Cook of Batesville, Janyne Hill of Maben, and Kimberly Irby of Enid; two brothers, Larry Mangum of Biloxi and Doug Mangum of New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Benita Staten of Greenwood and Jackie Thomas of Cincinnati, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

Market, Thomas "Tom"
Thomas "Tom" Market, 84, of Sardis, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Beverly Health Care Center in Batesville.
Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church in Batesville. Burial is at New Bethlehem cemetery. Rev. W.L. Nash will officiate. CooleyÕs Mortuary has charge.
Market, born
April 30, 1919, to the late Andrew Market and the late Martha Ann Jones, was a farmer and a member New Bethlehem M.B. Church.
Survivors include his wife Dartha Market of Sardis; six daughters, Mary Ann Strong of Sardis, Betty Jean Holmes, Jurlean Market, Monette Market and Deborah Market, all of Chicago, Ill. and Lula Harriston of Oxford; six sons, Walter Market, MacArthur Market, Donnie Market and Calvin Market, all of Chicago and Jimmy Vaugh and Jerry Ford, both of Batesville and one brother Dallas Market of Pope.
Martin, Chester Charles
Chester Charles Martin, 73, of Batesville, died Jan. 23, 2003, at Baptist Hospital Desoto in Southaven.
Services were at Kernodle Funeral Chapel in Wynne, Ark. with interment at Walnut Grove cemetery, also in Wynne. Rev. Gregg Tabor officiated services. Kernodle Funeral home had charge.
He was the son of the late Samuel Luther Martin and Flossie Mae Vaught Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, David Martin and one sister, Catherine Chitwood.
Mr. Martin was a 1949 Graduate of Whitehaven High School and a retired postal clerk. He was an Air Force veteran and attended Blackjack Baptist Church in Batesville.
Survivors include, companion Ann Hathcock of Batesville; two sons, Donald Rory Martin of Front Royal, Va. and Charles Bradford Martin of Grenada; two daughters, Donna Martin LaVelle of Baltimore, Md. and Karen Martin Crawford of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Arthur "Sam" Martin of Hemet, Calif.; and granddaughters Lindsey LaVelle and Charity Martin.
The family requests memorials be sent to The American Lung Association or The American Heart Association.
Matthews, Bettie Ann Branch
Bettie Ann Branch Matthews, 64, of Batesville, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.
Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Black Jack Presbyterian Church in Panola County. Burial will be at Black Jack cemetery. Rev. Doug Sullivan-Gonzalez and Rev. Don Howie will officiate. Waller Funeral Home has charge.
Matthews was a retired accountant, a member of Black Jack Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday School teacher with the high school and young college students, a member of the choir, an active Lay Minister, an officer with the St. Andrews Presbytery and an avid geneologist.
Survivors include her husband Richard Wesley "R.W." Matthews of Batesville; two daughters, Rebekah Therrell Laws of Birmingham, Ala. and Sharon Therrell of San Francisco, Calif; two sons, Baine Therrell of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Peter Therrell of Decatur, Ga. and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the American Lung Association or the Black Jack cemetery Fund.
Mayo, Andrew Lee
Andrew Lee Mayo, 82, of Como, died Jan. 31, 2003, at his residence.
Services were Tuesday at Harmontown Baptist Church with interment at Harmontown Baptist cemetery. Rev. Charles Robertson officiated services. Moore Funeral Home in Sardis had charge.

Feb. 2, 1920, to the late Leonard Mayo and the late Mildred Downs Mayo, was a traffic manager for American Greeting and a member of Harmontown Baptist Church. He was also a WWII Army Veteran and a former Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Lewis Mayo of Como; one daughter, Rebecca Wade of Higbee, Mo.; two sons, Raymond Mayo of Olive Branch and Gary Mayo of Germantown, Tenn.; one brother, James B. Mayo of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
McAlister, Nora Elizabeth
Nora Elizabeth McAlister, 84, of Batesville, died Sunday, August 24, 2003, at her residence.
Services were Wednesday at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Free Springs cemetery in Como. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Jan. 29, 1919, to the late David Williams and the late Emily Leopold Williams, was the owner of a bar and grill and a Baptist.
She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Newton McAlister.
Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Kesler of Richmond, Va., Frances Jones of Hopewell, Va., Tomme Edman of Batesville and Brenda Ross of Memphis; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
McCarver, Walter Howard "Red"
Walter Howard "Red" McCarver, 47, of Water Valley died Saturday, April 19, 2003, in Starkville.
Funeral services are today at 2 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford. Burial is at Springhill cemetery. Rev. R.W. Moffett will officiate. Waller Funeral Home has charge.
McCarver was a supervisor for Oliphant Paint Company.
Survivors include his wife Shelia McCarver of Water Valley; one stepdaughter Shannon Becker of Water Valley; one sister Patricia M. Mosley of Oxford; four brothers James E. Smith, Lannie McCarver, Jerry McCarver and Tommy McCarver, all of Batesville, and two step-granddaughters.
McClure, James Irby
James Irby McClure, 64, died Monday, May 28, at his daughter's residence in Batesville of heart failure.
Funeral services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Walter Ballard and Rev. Dennis Jacobs officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Jan. 6, 1939, to the late Jack and Evo Brewer McClure, was a retired plant manager of MMC, formerly Concrete Products and was a member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church.
McClure is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Gatlin McClure.
Survivors include one daughter Cathy McClure Mathews of Batesville; one sister Mary McClure Williams of Sardis and three grandchildren.
McElhaney, Charles "Hawkeye"
Charles "Hawkeye" McElhaney, 72, of Pope, died Friday, August 1, 2003, at his daughters residence of heart failure.
Services were Sunday at Willow Springs Assembly of God in Enid. Burial was at Bethel cemetery in Enid. Rev. Tommy Darby officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Samuels, Mary Elizabeth
Mary Elizabeth Samuels, 99, of Sardis, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Sardis Community Nursing Home of heart failure.
Services were Friday at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Cold Springs cemetery in Batesville. Rev. Bobby Caples and Rev. Travis Trammel officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.
Samuels, born
Sept. 13, 1903, to the late Chester Simpson and the late Ida Mae Stout Simpson, was a housewife and a member of Easley Memorial Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Samuels.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Sanders, Eva Hentz Lester
Eva Hentz Lester Sanders, 99, of Southaven, died Friday, August 29, 2003, at Oakville Health Care Center in Memphis.
Services were Friday at Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial was at Eureka cemetery. Rev. Jacob Hentz officiated. Cooley's Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

to the late Allen Hentz and the late Elizabeth Carr, was a domestic worker and a member of Warner Temple A.M.E. Zion Church in Memphis.
Survivors include two sons, Hargis "Moochie" Lester of Batesville and Willie James Ellis of Memphis; three daughters, Elizabeth Brown of Southaven, Gennie Ruth Madlock of Olive Branch and Rosie Mae Trantham of Harvey, Ill.; 28 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
