Pegues, Edward Lee
Edward Lee Pegues, 77, of Batesville, died Saturday Jan. 10, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services are Saturday Jan. 17, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial will in the church cemetery. Rev. Walter Newson will officiate. Cooley's Mortuary has charge.

Pegues, born icon June 9, 1926, to the late Eley Pegues and the late Lervida Knox, was a retired machine operator and a member of Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis.

Survivors include three sons, Terry Pegues of Batesville, Larry Pegues of Lynwood, Ga. and Daryl Pegues of Bowling Green, Ky.; one brother John Joiner of Grand Bay, Ala.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Pegues, Elmer Ealy
Elmer Ealy Pegues, 61, died Thursday, September 2, 2004.

Pegues, born icon April 3, 1943, to the late Joe Walter Pegues and Lela Mae Pegues, attended school in Panola County, confessed to Christ as his personal savior at an early age at the Mt. Gillion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. T.L. Tipton, later he joined the Bluff Springs M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor L.C. Smith. He remained a faithful member.

He was preceded in death by his father Joe Walter Pegues, three sisters, Debra M. Callicut, Angelose M. Ales and Virginia D. Joiner and one brother Walter Pegues Jr.

Survivors include his wife Flora Burgess; his mother Lela Mae Pegues of Batesville; five children, Gladys Taylor of Marietta, Ga., Elmer Anthony Pegues of Kennesaw, Ga., Florenta Fernandez (Lakesha) of Powder Springs, Ga., Curtis Pegues of Laplata, Maryland and Collins Jones of Batesville; four sisters, Betty Rudd, Sarah Lois Sheegog, Patricia Gross, all of Batesville and Willie Mae Smith of Bloomington, Ill.; 13 brothers, Clarence Pegues, John Ballentine of Memphis, Tenn., B.J. Pegues of East St. Louis, Ill., Leonard Pegues of Olive Branch, Jessie Pegues of Sardis, Jimmy Pegues of Senatobia, Gilibert Pegues, Silas Pegues, Ezell Pegues, Bobby Pegues, Ernest Pegues and Arthur Pegues, all of Batesville, and Wesley Pegues of Cleveland; 14 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Perkins, Maxine Evans
Marks, MS - Maxine Evans Perkins, 75, of Marks, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Sardis of cancer.

Services were Tuesday at Marks United Methodist Church in Marks. Burial was in Marks cemetery. Rev. Charlie Simmons officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Perkins, born icon June 6, 1928, was a member of Marks United Methodist Church and a retired office manager for MP & L.

Survivors include her husband R.V. Perkins of Marks; one daughter Nancy Perkins Hamilton of Santa Barbara, Calif. and three granddaughters and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister Geraldine Burrus. All memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Perkins, Paul Robert
Batesville, MS - Paul Robert Perkins, 72, of Batesville, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Perkins, born icon Aug. 1, 1931, to Roy and Bertha Barnett Perkins, was a retired Military Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife Maxine Ainsworth Perkins of Batesville; five daughters, Rosanna Burns Moore of Southaven, Gwendolyn Burns McMahon of Slidell, La., Marilyn Burns Clark and Judith Burns Howard, both of Sardis and Janice Burns Tramel of Oakland; four sons, Michael Perkins of Louisville, Ky., Rex Perkins of Dawson Springs, Ky. and Clemmie Perkins and Trent Perkins, both of Madisonville, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Permenter, Helen Margaret
Helen Margaret Permenter, 78, of Batesville, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, in Midland, Texas.

Services were Friday at Blackjack Baptist Church. Burial was in Forest Memorial Park. Rev. Moses Atwood officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Permenter, born icon July 6, 1925, to the late John Allen and late Effie Mae Baker Neal Sr., was a retired beautician and owner of Wallace Bait Shop on Sardis Lake. She brought joy and peace to all who crossed her path.

Survivors include her son Wally Permenter of Midland, Texas; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Earl Permenter; two brothers, John Allen Neal Jr. and Marvin Donald Neal; and one sister Frances Marie Word.

Pierce, Robert Earl Jr.
Memphis, TN - Robert Earl Pierce Jr., 39, of Memphis, died Monday, May 3, 2004, at Memphis Regional Medical Center of injuries received in a motorcycle accident.

Services were Thursday at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Burial was in Longtown cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Pierce Jr., born icon Dec. 18, 1964, was a building contractor and an avid Harley Davidson rider and a member of FUSAN Club of Memphis.

Survivors include his parents, Ruby Pierce Yarborough of Memphis and Robert Earl Pierce of Courtland; one son Brian Christopher Tharnish of Memphis; one half-brother Robert Clay Pierce of Batesville; two sisters Vicki Pierce Millette of Crestview, Fla. and Darleen Pierce Stettes of Syracuse, N.Y.; grandparents, Lucille Morgan of Southaven and Robert Kuehner of Memphis.

Pitcock, Alexis Nicole
Alexis Nicole Pitcock, 4, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Pitcock was born icon August 25, 2000, to Kevin E. and Laurie Darby Pitcock.

Services were Friday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park cemetery. Rev. Terry Tribble officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include her parents Kevin E. and Laurie Darby Pitcock of Courtland; two brothers, Steven Pitcock and Kevin Christopher "KC" Pitcock, both of Courtland; her grandparents, Edward and Helen Pitcock of Batesville and Regina Jaco of Batesville and her great-grandparents, Shelby Ard Pitcock of Courtland and Louise and Thomas Redwine of Batesville.

Porter, Luetta Fisher
Coldwater, Miss. - Luetta Fisher Porter, 99, of Coldwater, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at her residence.

Services were Sunday at Edwards Chapel A.M.E. Church in Coldwater. Burial was at Edwards Chapel cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Porter was a retired cook of Dr. M.M. Powell Jr. She was on the stewardess board, president of the usher board, missionary society and head cook at Edwards Chapel.

Survivors include two daughters, Sally P. Wooten and Berlin P. Johnson, both of Coldwater; one son Herman Porter of Southfield, Mich.; 27 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Potts, Charles "Bill"
Charles "Bill" Potts, 59, died Sunday, September 19, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Potts was a maintenance worker at several local manufacturers.

Services were Wednesday at Coleman Funeral Home. Burial was in Drivers' Flat cemetery in Calhoun County. Bro. Jimmy Sockwell and Bro. Gerald Shook officiated. Coleman Funeral Home had charge.

He was preceded in death by his father Arvie Potts.

Survivors include his wife Marjorie Potts of Oxford; two sons, Charlie Potts of Memphis, Tenn. and Ben Potts of Oxford; his mother Clyde Joblin Potts of Oxford; one sister Annie Sharp of Oxford and two brothers, James Potts of Calhoun County and Alvie Potts of Oxford.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Anchor Baptist Church, Water Valley, or the American Lung Association of Mississippi, P.O. Box 2178, Ridgeland, Miss. 39158.

Potts, Loyd
Yalobusha, Miss. - Loyd Potts, 56, of Yalobusha, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004.

Potts, born icon Sept. 8, 1948, to the late Charlie Rufus Potts and the late Willie Vance Potts, was a member of O'Tuckolofa Baptist Church in Water Valley and employed with Skuna River Lumber as a Chipper Operator.

Services were Friday at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Burial was in Mt. Liberty cemetery. Rev. William Milam and Lynn Potts officiated. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his wife Joann Potts of Water Valley; one son Floyd Dewayne Potts of Water Valley and four brothers, Elvis Potts of Enid, Jimmey Dale Potts Sr. of Batesville, Bobby F. Potts and Charles Lynn Potts, both of Water Valley.

Poynor, Lizzie Marie Ellis
Lizzie Marie Ellis Poynor, 76, of Batesville, died Sunday Jan. 4, 2004, at Baptist Memorial of North Miss. in Oxford.

Services are today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will be at Longcreek cemetery in Courtland. Rev. Damon Plummer, Rev. Rayford Ables and Rev. Doug Jones will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Poynor, born icon Feb. 27, 1927, to the late John Wilbert and the late Annie Maude Buford Ellis, was a homemaker and a member of Hosanna Family Worship Center.

Survivors include a beloved companion Leon Braswell of Batesville; two daughters, Mary E. Collins of Oxford and Carolyn Sue Ray of Batesville; one son John W. Poynor Sr. of Batesville; two sisters, Mary Ellis Lott of Shreveport, La. and Betty Jane Miller of San Antonia, Texas; two brothers, C.B. Ellis of Yazoo City and Curtis Ellis of Batesville; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.

Pratcher, W.C.
W.C. Pratcher, 62 of Sardis, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Pratcher was a member of Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Crenshaw.

Services were Saturday at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church. Burial was at Cistern Hill in Como. Rev. P. Jackson officiated. Eddie Robinson and Son Funeral Directors had charge.

Survivors include his wife Evene Pratcher of Sardis and one daughter Lois Linzy of Memphis, Tenn.
