Sexton, Patricia Kay
Patricia Kay Sexton, 50, of Senatobia, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at her residence.

Services were Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial was at Longtown cemetery. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.

Sexton, a Baptist, was a waitress.

Survivors include her husband Billy Joe Sexton of Sardis; one daughter Teresa Sands of Sardis; one son Billy Joe Sexton Jr. of Sardis; two sisters Sandra L. White of Batesville and Betty Jean Haas of Hialeah, Fla.; three brothers, George Danny Brown of Marks, J. W. Jackson and Donald Eugene Jackson, both of Pittsburg, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother William Eddie Brown.

Shearer, Edward Bradley III
Edward Bradley Shearer III, 68, of Water Valley, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003.

Services were Friday at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Burial was at Oak Hill cemetery in Water Valley. Rev. Jimmy Dale Sartain and Rev. Raymond Aven officiated. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge.

Shearer, born icon Mar. 15, 1935, to the late Edward Boyd and the late Dolly Ruth (Dalton) Shearer, was the publisher and editor of the North Mississippi Herald in Water Valley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church where he served as music director.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Kilgore Shearer of Water Valley; one son Dr. James E. Shearer of Las Cruces, NM; and two brothers, Paul Milton Shearer of Panacea, FL and John Thomas Shearer of Independence, MS.

All memorials be mailed to Woodland Hills Baptist Church, P.O. Box 801, Water Valley, Miss. 38965.

Shields, Charles Lucious Sr.
Clarksdale, Miss. - Charles Lucious Shields Sr., 88, of Clarksdale, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at his residence of heart failure.

Graveside services were Sunday. Burial was in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Clarksdale Rev. David Newton officiated. National Funeral Home had charge.

Shields, born icon Jan. 11, 1916, graduated from Sunflower High School, belonged to the American Legion and V.F.W. Post #3936, was in the Army-Air Force during WWII and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by one brother Floyd Collins Shields and one sister Florence Shields Mitchell.

Survivors include his wife Willie Mae Keenum Shields of Clarksdale; one daughter Linda Marie Singletary of Batesville; one son Charles Lucious Shields Jr. of Clarksdale; one sister Corine Shields Franks of Clarksdale; one brother Richard Leon Shields of Clarksdale; three grandchildren, Dominic Correro III of Batesville, Janet Shields Collins of Laurel, Charles Lucious Shields III of Laurel and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society or charity of choice.

Shields, Ilaree G.
Ilaree G. Shields, 62, of Batesville, died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Rev. Charles Locke officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Shields, born icon July 3, 1941, to the late William Harrison and the late Zera Lee Edwards Hitchcock, was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband Alvin Shields of Batesville; four daughters, Mary Ann Kuhel of Crystal Lake, Ill., Joyce Brown and Kathy Melton, both of Sardis and Michelle Shields of Batesville; nine sons, Wayne Grant of Charleston, Dennis Grant, Leslie Shields, Terry Shields and Ricky Shields, all of Batesville, J.C. Shields of Effingham, Ill. and James Robert Shields of Paris, Tenn., Ardis Shields of Sardis and Harvey Shields of Dyer, Tenn.; three sisters, Frances Hitchcock of Chicago, Ill. and Betty Martinez and Joette Short, both of Jonesboro, Ark.; seven brothers, James Hitchcock of South China, Maine, William Hitchcock of Batesville, Terry Hitchcock, Jimmy Hitchcock, Thurman Hitchcock and Virgil Hitchcock, all of Manila, Ark. and Ricky Hitchcock of Paragould, Ark.; 37 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Shields, Vera Morrow
Oxford, MS - Vera Morrow Shields, 77, of Oxford, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at her residence of heart failure.

Services were Saturday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Wells Funeral Home was in charge.

Shields, born icon July 18, 1927, to Henry and Elizabeth Glenn Morrow, was a homemaker and past president of Lafayette County Home Extension Service. She was also a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter Hilda Shields James of Zolfo Springs, Fla.; one son Tim M. Shields of Pineville, La.; three sisters, Mary Morrow Burns of Batesville, Helen Grace Morrow White of Senatobia and Miriam Morrow Koerner of Barnett, Mo.; one brother L.J. Morrow of Batesville; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Shirley, Ginger Gail Russell
Ginger Gail Russell Shirley, 26, of Batesville, died Saturday, June 12, 2004.

Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial was in Black Jack cemetery. Dr. Gary Crowell officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Shirley, born icon Feb. 1, 1978, to Jeff and Tammy McGregor Russell, was a homemaker.

Survivors included one daughter Gail Ivy of Batesville; one son Aaron Hunter Shirley of Batesville; one brother Jeffery Russell Jr. of Batesville; her parents, Jeffery and Tammy Russell Sr. of Batesville; and grandparents, Frances Lovelady and Mary McGregor, both of Batesville.

Shumaker, Onie
Como, MS - Onie Shumaker, 76, of Como, died Monday, April 19, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Wednesday at Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues. Burial was at Lee Memorial Park. Sammy Lansdell officiated. W.E. Pegues Funeral Home had charge.

Shumaker, born icon December 9, 1927, retired with Curtis 1000 Printing Company with over 25 years of employment as a press operator and was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Hunt of Harrisburg, Ark. and Kathy Robertson of Katy, Texas; three sons, William Robertson of Como, John Robertson of Winona and Larry Robertson of Westwego, La.; two brothers, Herman Bullard of Memphis and Charlie Barringer of Tunica; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Simon, J.C.
Lambert, MS - J.C. Simon, 80, of Lambert, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford of heart failure.

Services were Thursday at 2 p.m. at Blue Lake Baptist Church in Lambert. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Garden in Batesville. Rev. Jess Chadwick and Rev. Paul Blanchard officiated. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Simon, born icon Oct. 15, 1923, was a retired mechanic and a member of Blue Lake Baptist Church. He was also a WWII U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include a daughter Kathy Simon Gibson of Lambert; two brothers, Paul Simon of Clarksdale and Edward Simon of Linton, Ind.; one sister Margie Shields of Clarksdale; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jimmie Terry Simon. All memorials may be made to Blue Lake Baptist Church.

Simpson, Marie Blackwood
Marks, MS - Marie Blackwood Simpson, 91, of Marks, died Monday, May 10, 2004, at Quitman County Hospital of heart failure.

Services are today at Ackerman United Methodist Church. Burial is in McCurtains Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Weir. Rev. Allen Simpson will officiate. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.

Simpson, born icon Dec. 15, 1912, was a member of Lambert United Methodist Church, UMW and Quitman County Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include three daughters, Margie Simpson Gilmer of Weir, Delorise Simpson of Miami, Fla and Sharon Simpson Smith of Marks; three sons, Thomas O. Simpson Jr. of Winterhaven, Fla., John Criss Simpson of Lambert and Johnny Simpson of Ackerman; four sisters, Louise Ferris of Corinth, Daisy Lollar of Eupora; Mary Carmen Crawford of Hernando and Ann Bigler of Houston, Texas; one brother Fred Blackwood of Flint, Mich.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas O. "Dick" Simpson. All memorials may be made to the National Foundation for Transplant for Courtney Williams Fund, 1102 Brookfield St., Suite 201, Memphis, Tenn. 38119.

Smith, Anthony T. Sr.
Anthony T. Smith Sr., 42, formerly of Pontotoc, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Ropper North Medical Center in North Charleston, S.C.

Services are Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Good Shepard Church of God in Christ of Pontotoc. Burial is at Golden Family cemetery in Pontotoc. Elder Robert Flemings will officiate. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc has charge.

Smith was born icon to Louise Golden of Pontotoc and Willie Smith of Batesville and he was a veteran of the Navy.

Survivors include his wife Brenda Smith of North Charleston, S.C.; one daughter Camile Smith of Portland, Ore.; two sons, Anthony Smith Jr. and Hollence Smith, both of Alongopo City, Phillipines Islands; one brother Terrance Smith of Pontotoc; grandmother Virt Golden of Beloit, Wis.; an adopted son Lee Wilkes Jr. of North Charleston, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

Smith, Doris Belk
Doris Belk Smith, 91, of Batesville, died Friday, September 24, 2004, at Baptist Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford.

Smith, born icon Nov. 12, 1912, to the late Frank W. Belk Sr. and the late Bessie Mills Belk, was a retired school teacher from the Mississippi and Arkansas school systems, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Stitchers Sewing Circle, a Sunday School teacher, former co-owner of Smith Cleaners, Keenagers and a member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville.

Services were Sunday at the First Baptist Church. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia cemetery. Dr. Greg Johnston officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include her son James F. Smith of Batesville; grandchildren, James F. Smith Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., Todd Y. Smith of Olive Branch and Ellen Kergosien of Pineville, La. and eight great-grandchildren.
