Vaudie Murphree Chrestman, 94, of Bruce, died Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born icon March 9, 1914 in Bruce, the daughter of Charles Greenberry and Della Sherman Murphree. She was involved in community and church work, and was previously a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, school bus driver, cafeteria employee and community mid-wife.

Euris Allred
Euris Murphree Allred, 83, of Bruce, died Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital - North Mississippi in Oxford. She was born icon October 4, 1924 in Bruce, the daughter of Eugene O. and Laura Adell Thompson Murphree. She was a homemaker and member of Old Town Baptist Church.

Lola Catherine Jones
Lola Catherine Jones, age 65, of Red Oak, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Kindred Care Hospital in Mansfield. She was born icon June 4, 1943 in Leland, Ms. to Clyde Oliver and Lila Faye Edwards Oliver. In November 1961 Lola married icon Walter Ray Jones in Florence, Al. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Waxahachie for the past ten years and the Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary. She was a terrific housewife and loved to scrapbook. Lola was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved the Lord. She will be greatly missed.

Scooter Odom
Marion “Scooter” H. Odom, III, 41, of Highlands, Texas, died tragically on Friday, July 18, 2008 in the crane accident that took place at the Lyondell Basell Refinery in Houston. Scooter was born icon on May 19, 1967 in Houston, Tx. to Marion H. Odom, Jr. and Patricia A. McDonald Ogburn. Having lived in a number of states including Mississippi and Alabama, he settled in Highlands two years ago. He was a crane operator with Deep South Crane & Rigging and a member of the local Masonic Lodge.

Yonnie Elma West, 94, of Slate Springs, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at FernBrook Personal Care Home in Houston. She was born icon March 29, 1914 in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Jim F. and Vennie Fielder Reese. She was a homemaker and member of Bethany Baptist Church in Slate Springs.

Morris Pruett
Kenneth Morris Pruett, 83, of Grenada, died Sunday, August 3, 2008 in Somerville, Tn. He was born icon July 19, 1925 in Calhoun County, the son of Elmer W. and Carrie Evie Russell Pruett. He was a retired self-employed heavy equipment contractor.

Zora Idell Mosley
Zora Idell Mosley, age 90, born icon April 30, 1918 in Calhoun County to Avery Pacall and Clercie Mitchell Wright died August 2, 2008 at Calhoun Health Services in Calhoun City, MS. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and a retired LPN from the Oxford Hospital.

William Davis
William Roscoe Davis Jr., 81, of Grenada, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at BMH in Oxford. He was born icon May 16, 1927, to William Roscoe and Bertha Vance Davis Sr.

Jack Brandon
Jack M. Brandon, 73, died Sunday, August 3, 2008, at his residence. He was born icon September 8, 1934 in Coffeeville to the late Edwin Allen and Rebecca Fly Brandon. Mr. Brandon was a member of Coffeeville United Methodist Church and a retired 25 year employee of the Mississippi Skuna Valley Railroad where he worked as an engineer. He was also a member of Coffeeville Fire Department, the former owner of Jacks’ Recreation Center, and a cattleman.

Dr. D.L. Harrison
Dr. D.L. Harrison, Jr., M.D., 75, a long-time Grenada physician, passed away Monday, August 4, 2008 at Grenada Lake Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Garner-Harper Funeral Home of Grenada.

Jimmy Doler
Jimmy Dale Doler, 58, of Calhoun City, died Friday, August 1, 2008 at his home. He was born icon July 1, 1950 in Houston, the son of Jasper and Pearl Wray Doler He was a self-employed farmer, member of First Baptist Church, and was an avid sportsman and member of Topashaw Hunting Club.

Marie Ramsey
Funeral services for Marie Ramsey, 74, of Tyler, Tx. were held Friday, July 25 at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Elwood Stetson officiating. Burial was at Cathedral in the Pines cemetery. She died July 22, 2008 at her residence.

Gladys Marie Chrestman of Southaven and formerly of Bruce, died July 30, 2008 at Desoto Health Care and Rehab in Southaven. She was born icon March 7, 1925 in Pontotoc, the daughter of Gladys LeRoy and Julia Ann Fullerton Massey. She was a homemaker and member of Horn Lake Baptist Church.

Allie Mayhan
Allie Mae McCombs Mayhan, 90, died Saturday, August 2, 2008 at her home in Bruce. She was a homemaker and a member of Westside Baptist Church. She was born icon July 25, 1918 in Sunflower County. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Wiley Edward Mayhan.

Evelyn Poteete
Evelyn Hayles Poteete, 90, of Bruce, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at Bruce Community Living Center. She was born icon October 8, 1917 in Springdale community, the daughter of James Carter and Lillie Mae Jenkins Hayles. She was a homemaker, an Avon sales representative, and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Sarah Rasberry
Sarah Ruth Patton Rasberry, died Monday, August, 11, 2008 at her home. She was born icon August 26, 1935 in Calhoun County, the daughter of Harold Luther and Rubye Mae Joblin Patton. She was a retired cafeteria worker from Bruce Schools’ system. She was a member of Banner Baptist Church where she was church treasurer for over 30 years, taught a youth Sunday School class for over 40 years and was a Bible School teacher for over 40 years.

Mary Begley
Mary Grace Brewer Begley, born icon June 23, 1916 in Coffeeville, died on August 9, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Begley; parents, Henry Harrison and Mary Ellen McCammon Brewer, and two brothers, Robert Wisdom and James Henry Brewer. Survivors include her three sons, Carlos Ray Begley, Philip Begley and his wife, Marie, and David Wayne Begley; five grandchildren, Philip Eugene BEgley, Brian Begley and wife, Jennifer; Jim Roy Begley and fiance Melissa; Eric Frasier Begley, and Jason Scott Begley and wife, Tracy; four great grandchildren, MacKenzie Elizabeth Begley, Zachary Whitesell, Brennan Begley, and Nathan Begley; two step great-granddaughters, Robin and Ashley, and countless friends and former students. She made pins for grenades during WWII and was a lifelong educator from 1945-1978.

Douglas Glen “Doug” Saxon Sr., 65, of Pontotoc, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He retired from trucking after more than 30 years. He loved to drive trucks, repo units and fish.He enjoyed his grandchildren and his young son’s love of life.

Jimmy Ray Inmon, 64, of Vardaman, died Saturday, August 9, 2008 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born icon May 16, 1944 in Calhoun County, the son of Jack and Lillie Pearl Inmon. He was retired from TDS-Calhoun City Telephone Co., was a farmer and cattleman. He was a member of Grace Southern Baptist Church in Calhoun City.

Daniel Smith
Daniel V. Smith, 52, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital - North Mississippi in Oxford. born icon December 15, 1955 in Water Valley, he is a son of Thomas Melvin and Clara Pauline Akins Smith. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend. He worked in maintenance for 33 years at Borg-Warner in Water Valley. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Calhoun County.

A 1965 graduate of Bruce High School and 1969 graduate of Mississippi State with a BA in Business Education, she was the accounts payable clerk with the Calhoun County School District. She was a member of Bruce First Baptist Church.

Billy Walls
Billy Dewell Walls, 77, of Bruce, died Saturday, October 11, 2008 at his home. He was born icon August 9, 1931 in the Old Field community, the son of Robert Samuel and Stella Jane Blount Walls. He was a retired farmer and trucker, and member of Old Field Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed gardening and woodcrafts.

Bertha Gunderson
Bertha Adams Gunderson, 95, of Bruce, died Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital - North Mississippi in Oxford. She was born icon August 10, 1913 in Calhoun County, the daughter of Jack and Mattie Tallent Adams. She was a member of Bruce Church of God of Prophecy, and she was retired from the U.S. Government Ammunition Plant. She was also a homemaker.
