James H. Maloch
RIDGELAND - James H. Maloch, 85, a retired insurance sales representative and estate planner, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 4, 1998, of congestive heart failure at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson.
Services were held Saturday at St. Richard's Catholic Church in Jackson with Monsignor Noel Foley officiating.
Mark E. Seepe Funeral Directors of Jackson handled arrangements.
A native of Jackson, Tenn., Mr. Maloch attended Lambert College. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Following military service, he relocated to Jackson, Miss., in 1945, where he was associated with Penn Mutual as an insurance representative and estate planner until his retirement in 1981. He was a communicant of St. Richard's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth B. Maloch of Ridgeland; daughter, Elizabeth "Betsy" Truss of Houston, Texas; son, William B. Maloch of Juneau, Alaska; and two grandchildren.
Hubert E. Wadsworth
MADISON - Hubert E. Wadsworth, 89, a retired telegrapher, died Feb. 1, 1998 of pneumonia at his home.
born in Edinburg in 1908, Mr. Wadsworth lived most of his life in Jackson. He spent the last five years in Madison living with his daughter, Vivian Newkirk, and her family.
In 1923 he began working as a messenger boy for the Postal Telegraph delivering telegrams by bicycle. After studying Morse code, he was promoted to telegrapher. During World War II, he remained in Jackson transmitting governmental information and news stories filed by state reporters. As Morse telegraphy disappeared, Mr. Wadsworth transferred to transmittals by facsimile and teletype.
But his love for "pounding the brass" gave him his happiest moments. He retired from Western Union after 41 years.
He was a member and deacon of Broadmoor Baptist Church while living in Jackson. He repaired antique clocks during retirement and enjoyed reading and working outdoors.
Other survivors include his wife, Ann, of Madison, and daughter, Glenda Wadsworth of Starkville; grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Herman D. Goolsby
CANTON - Herman D. Goolsby, 63, a retired security guard, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, of cancer at G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Services were Friday at Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home in Canton with burial in Canton cemetery.
A Madison County native, Mr. Goolsby was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Canton. He was a security guard for Farm Bureau. Prior to his 1994 retirement, he had also been a Canton police officer . He was a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Juadine Goolsby of Canton; son, Gary Goolsby of Canton; daughter, Sheila Gerlack of Canton; brothers, Andrew Goolsby and Marvin Goolsby, both of Brandon, Herbert Goolsby of Flora and Robert Goolsby of Clinton; sister, Lillie Holden of Lena; and several grandchildren.
Benton Payne Estes, Sr.
Benton Payne Estes, Sr., 89, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Veterans Home in Oxford, Mississippi.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 18 at Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. George Woodliff officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood cemetery under the direction of Stricklin-King Funeral Home.
Mr. Estes was born
May 1, 1925 in Yazoo City to Charles Henry Estes, Sr. and Annie Payne Estes. He was a Marine, serving in World War II in the Pacific campaign.
After the war, he attended Mississippi State University and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Upon returning to Yazoo City, he helped to operate Motor Parts Company with his father and brother.
He was a life-long member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir and served on the vestry.
An active member of Boy Scouts of America, he was an Eagle Scout as a youth, later served as Scout Master for Troop 72. He was presented with the Silver Beaver award for his contribution to scouting.
He was a member of the Yazoo City Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Beverly Warren Estes and Joyce Pinion Estes and his brother, Charles H. Estes, Jr.
Survivors include his daughter, Calvert Estes Shideler (Craig) of Senatobia and his son, Benton (Bee) P. Estes, Jr. (Holly) of Yazoo City and his six grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Nathan Shideler, Josh Shideler, Benton Estes III, Marlon George, Jr., Paul Dozier, and Ken Montgomery.

Georgia King
Mrs. Georgia King, 103, of Bolivar, Tenn., departed this life Monday morning, October 20, 2014 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was the widow of Charlie W. King who died in 1999.
A native of Hardeman County, she and her husband owned and operated Kings Grocery in Cloverport for 17 years. She was born
February 28, 1911, daughter of the late George Ambrose Smith and Maggie Lee Pirtle Smith and lived all of her life in Hardeman County. She loved to grow okra and enjoyed gardening and going fishing.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Lois and Tillman Hill of Bolivar; two sons and their wives, J.D. and Bea King of Selmer and Avery and Sharon King of Coldwater; a daughter-in-law, Shirley King of Selmer; a special nephew, Tom King of Henderson; grandchildren, Dedi (Kent) Wadley, Randy (Tina) King, Jason King, Frieda King, Charles “Chuck” King, Wayne King and Anita Watson; Several great, great grandchildren and extended family members that will miss here.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Wesley King on November 18, 2003; a grandson, Esco King in 2008; and all of her brothers and sisters.
The family requests memorials be directed to the Hardeman County Rescue Squad.
David Michael Reid, Jr.
Mr. David Michael Reid, Jr., 53, passed away on October 20, 2014, at his residence in West Point, Miss.
David was born
March 8, 1961, in Batesville, the son of David Michael and Patricia Ann Wilbourn Reid, Sr.
One of David’s many accomplishments was serving as the Troop Leader of the Boy Scouts of America in Calhoun City, where he earned his Eagle Scout.
He was a 1979 Graduate of West Point High School and a 1983 Graduate of Mississippi State University, Graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Business.
David was an accomplished and skilled Self-Employed Carpenter, owning and operating Reid’s Renovations, where he was recently awarded the People’s Choice Best Carpenter by the Daily Times Leader.
He enjoyed fishing and watching football. He was also an accomplished cook.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He married
Renee Holcombe Reid on May 9, 2000, in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Funeral services were held October 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. James Towery officiating. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Renee H. Reid of West Point; one son, James David “Jim” Reid of Maben; two step-sons, Colby and Cameron Latham, both of West Point; his mother, Patricia “Pat” Reid Cahill (Jim) of Senatobia; father, Mike Reid (Cindy) of West Point; one brother, Jeff Reid (Jeannie) of Reading, Pa.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Joyce Holcombe of West Point; three brothers-in-law: Eddie Holcombe (Shelley), Martie Holcombe (Christy), and Jeff Holcombe (Angela) all of West Point; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Charles Wilbourn, Bill Wilbourn, Lamar Wilbourn, Jimmy Wilbourn, Chris Hawkins, Chad Hawkins, Jeff Holcombe, Martie Holcombe, Eddie Holcombe, Jessie Barbee, Daniel Hunt, and Kris Sykes.

Matthew Rucker
Matthew Rucker, 65, of Coldwater, Miss., passed away on October 16, 2014. Funeral services were held at Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater on Sunday, October 26 at 1 p.m. Burial followed at Hopewell Church cemetery in Coldwater.
He is survived by two sisters, Martha J. Nelson of Hernando and Mary A. Rucker of Senatobia; brothers, L. C. Nelson, Jr. of Coldwater, John E. Nelson of Coldwater, Jimmie Nelson of Memphis, Tenn.
Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater had charge of the arrangements.
Christine DeShazo Smith
Christine DeShazo Smith, 95, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away October 21, 2014 at the Senatobia Convalescent Center. Services were held Thursday, October 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial followed in Harmontown Baptist Church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Smith and eight siblings.
She is survived by her daughters, Charlee Roll of Senatobia, and Mary Hunter of Strayhorn; sister, Virginia DeShazo Williams of Tyro; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was a member of Harmontown Baptist Church.

Albert Lee Stowers
Albert Lee Stowers, 78, construction worker, passed away October 15, 2014. Funeral services were held at West Antioch #2 M.B. Church in Coldwater, where he was a member, on Saturday, October 25, at 11 a.m. Burial followed in West Antioch #2 Church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Millie Reed Stowers; daughters, Demitri Reed of Lansing, Ill., Diana Reed of Lansing, Ill, Dinah Reed of Rubbing, Ill., and Albertina Reed of Houston, Texas; son, Eric Reed of Alsip, Ill.; brother, Willie J. Floyd of Evanston, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Jerry Howell Stroup
Jerry Howell Stroup, 64, of Batesville, Miss., passed away unexpectedly on October 23, 2014.
The son of the late Doyle Durent Stroup and Mary Helen Armstrong Stroup, Jerry was born
on February 18, 1950 in Pittsboro, Miss. He and his family moved to Crowder, Miss., where he graduated from Crowder High School in 1969. A quarterback in school, his love for football and sports continued; he especially enjoyed following the South Panola Tigers, the Ole Miss Rebels and the Atlanta Braves.
Jerry also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working in the yard. He was a member of Pittsboro Baptist Church, worked with the American Heart Association and Cancer Association and was a member of the Panola County Humane Society. He was a dedicated employee of Tri-State Pest Control for over seven years, servicing residents in Tate, Panola, Lafayette and Marshall Counties. He never met a stranger, had a kind word for everyone, and cherished the friendships established over the years with his customers.
Jerry is survived by one son, Jerry Shane Stroup (Donna) of Olive Branch, Miss. his mother, Mary Helen Stroup Wall, of Calhoun City, Miss.; one step-daughter, Megan Carlisle Willoughby (Charles) of Hernando, Miss.; and one grandson, Jordan Shane Stroup of Olive Branch, Miss. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Carlisle Stroup; his first wife, Miriam Tedford Stroup; his father, Doyle Durent Stroup; his brother, James LeDoyle Stroup and his step-father, Milton Wall.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 25, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation on Saturday, October 25, at 1:00 p.m., both at Dickins Funeral Home in Batesville, Miss. A private burial was held in Calhoun County, Miss.

Suzanne Strider Walker
Suzanne Strider Walker, 62, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away October 20, 2014 at her residence.
She is survived by her husband, Brown Walker of Senatobia; daughter, Suzi Walker of Senatobia; son, Brown Walker III of Lexington; brothers, John Strider and Trent Strider both of Charleston; and six grandchildren.
Mrs. Walker was a member of Charleston Methodist Church.
