Marcus L. Wimberly

Marcus L. Wimberly, 29, of Coldwater, Miss., passed away on October 15, 2014. Funeral services were held at New Independence M.B. Church in Coldwater on Saturday, October 25 at 1 p.m. Burial followed in New Independence Church cemetery.

He is survived by his mother, Annie Wimberly of Coldwater, father, Marion Thompson of Battlecreek, Mich.; sisters, Jennifer Heath of Memphis, Tenn. and Shameka Harris of Calamazoo, Mich.; and brother, Kenneth Harris of Birmingham, Ala.

Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater had charge of the arrangements.

Dallas Lee Branan
Dallas Lee Branan, age 56, of Southaven, Miss., passed away Sunday, February 21, 2010. He was born icon in Peoria, Illinois to parents Dallas, Jr. and Pauline Red Branan on August 5, 1953.

Shortly after his birth, the family moved back to their hometown of Arkabutla, Miss., where Lee lived until he married icon Peggy Rhodes, also of Arkabutla, to whom he remained faithful, loving, and supportive for over 37 years. In 1974 Lee joined the Navy and was transferred to NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After Lee completed his training in aircraft maintenance and repair, the couple moved back to Mississippi and Lee acquired a position as aircraft mechanic for Federal Express where he remained a faithful employee until his death nearly 30 years later.

Lee was also dedicated and faithful to his beloved church, Southaven First Baptist, for these 30 years, where he served as deacon, played drums for the worship service, and was actively involved in various other ministries of the church.

Over the years Lee's diverse interests included archery, model trains, skydiving, scuba diving, radio controlled airplanes, various musical instruments, and most recently, Ham radio.

Lee is survived by his wife of 37 years, Peggy June Branan of Southaven, Miss.; two sons, Cory D. Branan of Austin, Texas, and Daniel Lee Branan of Southaven; one daughter, Katie Beth Strawn (Jeff); and two grandchildren, Caleb Thomas Strawn and Lillie Carolyn Strawn, all of Southaven. He also leaves his mother, Pauline Red Branan of Arkabutla; two brothers, Robert "Eddie" Branan (Jean) and Steve Branan, both of Arkabutla; and two sisters, Sandra McCrary (John) and Lisa Steward (Wayne), both of Senatobia.

Lee was preceded in death by his father, Dallas Branan, Jr. of Arkabutla, Miss. Funeral services were held at Southaven First Baptist Church on Thursday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m. Burial followed at Evansville cemetery in Cottonville, Miss.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Southaven First Baptist Church.

Margie Freeman Burford
Margie Freeman Burford, 86, passed away February 24, 2010 at her residence in Senatobia, Miss. Services were held on Friday, February 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thyatira Church of Christ. Burial followed in Tyro cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas and Viola Freeman; her son, Ed Burford; her sister, Joyce Parks; and her brothers, George Hugh Nelson and Billy Freeman.

She leaves her husband, Leon Burford; her daughter, Sue Brewer of Wyatte, Miss.; her sons, Bobby Burford of Senatobia and Bill Burford of Independence; seven grandsons; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the Thyatira Church of Christ where she was a member.

Marion Joan Welch Collums
Marion Joan Welch Collums, 70, died February 24, 2010 at her home in Senatobia. Mrs. Collums was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley "Rex" Collums.

She is survived by one daughter, Kelli Rose Collums; three sons, Jeff Collums, Chris Collums and Bo Collums, all of Senatobia; two sisters; six brothers; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Collums was retired from Smith and Nephew and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Senatobia.

Services were held at 12 noon Saturday, February 27 at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home - Senatobia Chapel.

Memorials may be sent to The Autism Foundation.

Robert John Merrill
Robert John Merrill, 64, of Senatobia, passed away February 12, 2010 at his residence near Senatobia. Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24 at the Looxahoma Church of Christ.

Mr. Merrill served in the Air Force from 1963 through 1967. He was a manager of K-Mart for 35 years, and a manager for Dollar Tree for five years.

He leaves his fiancée, Betty Duke of Senatobia; his daughter, Dawn Vickers of Duluth, Ga.; her son David Merrill of Atlanta, Ga.; his sister, Sharon Currutt and husband, Richard, of Willoughby, Ohio; his brother, Tim Merrill of Wickliffe, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Charlie Richard Monroe
Charlie Richard Monroe, 58, of Memphis, Tenn., former police officer for Plant City, Florida Police Department and self-employed construction worker died February 18, 2010 in Ft. Pierce, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Julia Monroe of Memphis; three daughters, Theresa Whitamore and Crystal Hudson, both of Memphis and Shannon Chase of Tulsa, Okla.; his son, Curtis Monroe of St. Pete, Fla.; his mother, Joyce Brown of Plant City, Fla.; his sister, Sharon Dixon of Plant City, Fla.; three brothers, Donald Monroe and Danny Monroe of Florida and Randy Monroe of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 12-2 p.m. Friday, February 26. Services followed at 2 p.m. at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home Senatobia Chapel.

Synthia Jones Shorty
Synthia Jones Shorty, 37, Casino Security Guard, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away February 21, 2010. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27 at Antioch #1 Church in Senatobia. Burial was in West Tennessee Veteran cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home in Senatobia had charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Shorty; three daughters, Breania Shorty, Markaylah Shorty and Cassie Shorty, all of Senatobia; mother, Mary Davis and step-father, Eddie Davis of Charleston, Miss.; father, Johnnie L. Jones of Houston, Texas; sisters, Marylin J. Bryant of Greenwood, Miss., Sarah "Taytay" Coalson of Rome, Ga.; and her brothers, Tyrone Weatherspoon of Chicago, Ill. and Johnnie Jones Jr. of Shelby, Miss.

Boyce McKay Smith
Boyce McKay Smith, 45, of Lake Cormorant, Miss., passed away February 20, 2010. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23 at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia, Miss. Burial followed at Bethesda cemetery. Mr. Smith was an employee of Smith and Nephew and a member of the Colonial Hills Church.

He is survived by his wife, Paige Smith of Lake Cormorant, Miss.; two daughters, Heather Smith and Haley Smith, both of Lake Cormorant, Miss.; his parents, Gene and Elizabeth Kay Smith of Lake Cormorant; his grandmother, Louise Ray of Senatobia; and by one brother, Samuel Gene Smith of Memphis, Tenn.

Everette Stevens
Everette Stevens, 89, of Independence, Miss., passed away February 22, 2010 at the Veterans Home in Oxford, Miss. Services were held Thursday, February 25 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial followed at Mt. Zion cemetery. Mr. Stevens was a Mason and a Shriner since 1946, and he was a member of the Senatobia Masonic Lodge. He was also a Veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army.

He was the widower of Virginia Coleman Stevens.

He is survived by his son, David A. Stevens and his daughter-in-law, Stephanie Foster Stevens, of Independence; his grandson, John Nathaniel Stevens of Natchez, Miss.; his nephews, James Stevens and Mark Rhodes; and his niece, Betty Sue Rieth.

Ryan White
Ryan White, 27, of Southaven, Mississippi, died Monday, February 22, 2010. He was born icon November 1, 1982 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Tommy and Jan (Dantzler) White. Ryan was a member of First Baptist Church of Hot Springs, Ark., active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a graduate of Lakeside High School and Arkansas Tech University where he was a stand out baseball player, and received his Masters degree at Henderson State University. He spent three seasons (2006 - 2008) as an assistant coach at Ouachita Baptist before being named the head baseball coach in 2008 at Senatobia High School in Senatobia, Mississippi. Along with coaching baseball at Senatobia, Ryan also coached the cross country team and was a health and physical education teacher.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sam and Nancy Dantzler; paternal grandparents, Ralph and Phyllis White; and uncle, Lt. Col. Jerry Don Dickerson.

He is survived by his parents; three aunts, Page Dickerson of Jonesboro, Ark., Karen Miller and husband Dave of Mediapolis Iowa, Rhonda Morrison and husband Doyle of Burlington, Iowa; and one uncle, David Dantzler and wife Alyce of Roanoke, Virginia along with several cousins.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Hot Springs, Ark. Friday, February 26 with Dr. John McCallum officiating. Burial was at 3:30 p.m. Friday, February 26 at Jonesboro Memorial Park in Jonesboro, Ark. with Dr. John McCallum and Jeff Pagan officiating.

Pallbearers included Justin Linington, Matt Teale, David Hall, Si Hornbeck, Brock Ferguson, Josh Wesson, Chris Slaton, Adam O'Neal, Kyle Newsom, and Clark Richardson. Honorary pallbearers include the teammates, players, and coaches of Ryan White at Lakeside High School, Arkansas Tech University, Ouachita Baptist University, Senatobia High School, Lakeside Baseball Association, and coaching staff of UALR Baseball team.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 2350 Central Avenue, Hot Springs, AR 71913 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Geneva Ann Denton

Geneva Ann Denton, 59, of Coldwater, died Sunday, August 20, 2000 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. Services were held Tuesday, August 22 at Morrison Funeral Home in Barton, Ala. with interment in Mt. Zion cemetery in Cherokee, Ala.

Ms. Denton was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Denton. She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Johnson and Sandra Griffin, both of Coldwater; one son, Ricky Denton of Olive Branch; three sisters, Faye Hamm of Tuscumbia, Ala., Judy Hamm of Russellville, Ala., and Anna Conley of Mason, Tenn.; one brother, James Conley of Tupelo; five grandchildren; and one grandson.

Alberta Frost, 76, of Memphis, formerly of Senatobia, died Sunday, August 13, 2000 at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis. Services were held Saturday, August 19 at South Parkway East Church of Christ in Memphis with interment in Zion Hill cemetery in Senatobia.

Ms. Frost was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Frost. She is survived by one daughter, Calbertha Williamson of Memphis; one sister, Dorothy Perry of Memphis; two brothers, William Loveberry of Como, and Jessie Loveberry of St. Louis; and five grandchildren.

Anita Marie Gannon

Anita Marie Gannon, 80, of Senatobia, died Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at her residence. Services were held Thursday, August 17 at C.O. Pate Funeral Home in Senatobia with interment in Bethesda cemetery in Senatobia. Pallbearers were David Leatherwood, Chris Robinson, Scott Robinson, Tom Robinson, Ron Leatherwood and Ken Leatherwood. Father Jim Schifano officiated.

Ms. Gannon is survived by two sisters, Jerry Hollern, and Dorothy Lindo, both of Dallas; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and Mrs. Tish Leatherwood of Senatobia.

L.C. Gordon

L.C. Gordon, 53, of Como, died Sunday, August 13, 2000 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis. Services were held Sunday, August 20 at Shiloh C.M.E. Church in Sardis with interment in Shiloh C.M.E. Church cemetery.

Mr. Gordon is survived by his wife, Daisy Gordon; one daughter, Rita Dishman of Jackson, Miss.; one son, Rodney Dishman of Como; her mother, Daisy Lee Smith of Sardis; six sisters, Bobbie Nel Jackson, Bertha Lee Clunis, Gracie Lee Harvey, Dorothy Jones, and Gloria Wells, all of Chicago, and Mae Gertha Parker of Memphis; four brothers, Otis Smith and Willis Gordon, both of Sardis, and Charles Smith and Robert Lee Webb, both of Chicago; and two grandchildren.

Harold Holliday, Jr.

Harold Holliday, Jr., 60, of Senatobia, died Friday, August 11, 2000 at his residence. Services were held Sunday, August 13 at C.O. Pate Funeral Home in Senatobia with interment in Senatobia Memorial cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Brewer, James Albert Cook, Jerry Polk, Bill Wright, Richard Donahou and Gene Clayton. Rev. James McClusky officiated.

Mr. Holliday is survived by his wife, Patsy Massey Holliday of Senatobia; two sons, Eddie Dewayne Holliday and Joel Lee Holliday, both of Senatobia; his mother, Pauline Holliday of Askew, Miss.; one sister, Martha Holliday Chapman of Southaven; three brothers, Billey Wayne Holliday of Eudora, Buddy Wright of Senatobia and Lawrence Wright of Crenshaw; and three grandchildren.

Hazel May Leverette

Hazel May Leverette, 95, of Senatobia, died Wednesday, August 16, 2000 at Senatobia Convelescent Center. Services were held Saturday, August 19 at C.O. Pate Funeral Home in Senatobia with interment in Mt. Zion cemetery in Independence. Pallbearers were Benny Powers, Archie Powers, Raymond Powers, Gary Dickerson, John Farrow and Barry Clanton. Rev. eddie Prince officiated.

Ms. Leverette was preceded in death by her husband, Lester B. Leverette. She is survived by Mrs. Katherine Dickerson of Senatobia; five step-grandchildren; and a host of step-great-grandchildren.

Ellis Menzie

Ellis Menzie, 91, of Batesville, died Friday, August 18, 2000 at his residence. Services were held Monday, August 21 at Mt. Evia M.B. Church in Batesville with interment in Macedonia cemetery in Batesville.

Mr. Menzie is survived by three sisters, Siller Bell Menzie of Batesville, Lottie James of Sardis, and Ever L. Warren of Memphis; his niece, Carrie Riley of Batesville; his nephew, Charles Riley of Batesville; eight grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

Annie Lee Schoggen

Annie Lee Schoggen, 85, of Senatobia, died Monday, August 21, 2000 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. Services were held Wednesday, August 23 at Truslow United Methodist Church with interment in Truslow cemetery. Active pallbearers were Wade Smith, Josh Yount, Jason Yount, Jeremy Yount, John Yount, Dayton Williams and Hubert Ward. Honorary pallbearers were Lawrence Frazier, Doyle Holliday, Leo Frazier, Lawrence Frazier, Jr., Maurice O'Neal, Leroy O'Neal, Chris O'Neal, Mike Yount and George Yount.

Ms. Schoggen was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Schoggen. She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Brewer of Tunica; one son, Billy Schoggen of Senatobia; one sister, Dorothy Person of Collierville, Tenn.; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.

Donnie Winina Tate

Donnie Winona Tate, 98, of Senatobia, died Friday, August 18, 2000 at Magnolia Gardens Retirement Home in Greenville. Graveside services were held Monday, August 21 at Bethesda cemetery in Senatobia. Pallbearers were Charles Stott, Milton Tate, Jim Wolfe, Jeremy Tate, Matthew McCask, II and Josh McCask, II. Rev. Ken Sissell officiated.

Ms. Tate is survived by one sister, Ebbie Tate of Greenville; one brother, Robert Tate of Brandon, Miss.; and Gaila Tate McCaskill of Leland, Miss.
