GAIL BRADEN WARD, 58, of Lake Cormorant, Miss., homemaker, died of cancer Tuesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital East. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Forest Hill Funeral Home South with burial in Forest Hill cemetery South. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Eudora, Miss., and attended First Presbyterian Church there. Mrs. Ward, the wife of Joseph E. Ward, also leaves two daughters, Tersa Bassham of Lake Cormorant and Susan Abu-Atiyeh of Horn Lake, Miss.; a son, William T. Ward of Nesbit; her mother, Mildred Braden of Sun City, Ariz.; two sisters, Evelyn Hume and Carolyn Coster, both of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Billy Braden of Fontina, Calif., and six grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to American Cancer Society.

CAROL JUANITA BELL, 55, of Sardis, Miss., formerly of Memphis, homemaker and former family practice nurse, died of cancer Monday at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum. She leaves a daughter, Cindy Raffanti of Cordova; a son, Jeff Jones of Sardis; her mother, Bessie Spencer of Lake Cormorant, Miss.; four sisters, Ann Underwood of Flower Mound, Texas, Julia Jones of Memphis, Jane Ramsey of Bradley, Fla., and Linda Presley of Lake Cormorant; four brothers, James Barrentine of Paxton, Fla., Charles Barrentine of Evart, Mich., Clyde Spencer of Batesville, Miss., and Allen Spencer of Lake Cormorant, and three grandchildren.

CALVIN `DINO' WILLIAMS, 17, of Olive Branch, Miss., employee of Memphis Railroad, died Monday after being struck by a vehicle in DeSoto County, Miss. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jeremiah AME Church in Olive Branch with burial in the church cemetery. Gillespie Funeral Home in Olive Branch has charge. He leaves his mother, Shirley M. Williams, and a sister, Gwendolyn Street, both of Memphis; a brother, Eddie Williams Jr. of Olive Branch, and his grandparents, Earl and Katharia Isom of Olive Branch.

LOUISE SMITH THOMPSON, 58, of Belmont, Miss., formerly of Memphis, lab technician for Saint Francis Hospital, died of cancer Tuesday at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Memphis Memory Gardens. Family Funeral Care has charge. Mrs. Thompson, the wife of Edward M. Thompson, also leaves two sons, Joe Maloney and William Michael Maloney, both of Memphis; her mother, Estella Wigginton Smith of New Albany, Miss.; a sister, Judy Randolph of Tupelo; two brothers, Tom Smith of Belmont and Bob Smith of Red Bay, Ala., five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

JEWELL RAY BAILEY, 96, of Slayden Miss., formerly of Moscow, homemaker, died of heart failure Wednesday at Holly Springs Health & Rehabilitation Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home in Somerville with burial in Bethlehem cemetery. Mrs. Bailey was the widow of Warren Bailey. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Slayden Baptist Church.

JOHN WILLIAM JONES, 74, of Holly Springs, Miss., retired farmer, died of heart failure Tuesday at Alliance Health Care System. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Strickland United Methodist Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member of the trustee board, with burial in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum & Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs has charge. He leaves local survivors, including a sister, Emma McCrary of Memphis.

ARBRIE JACOB POWERS, 79, of Holly Springs, Miss., retired farmer, died of injuries received in an auto accident Feb. 26 in Holly Springs. Services will be at noon Saturday at Chulahoma Missionary Baptist Church in Holly Springs, where he was a deacon and cemetery chairman, with burial in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum & Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs has charge. Mr. Powers, the widower of Jully Mary Cox Powers, leaves local survivors, including a daughter, Lee Vatarie Moody, and a son, Calvin Powers, both of Memphis.
