Helen W. Maxwell
Helen Mariah Wall Maxwell, 54, of Brookhaven, died there of a heart attack Sept. 16, 2000, at King’s Daughters Medical Center.
Visitation is noon-7 p.m. Friday at Young’s Funeral Home in Summit. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Collins Grove Baptist Church in Summit, with Bishop Robert Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Maxwell was born Feb. 10, 1946, in Summit. She was the daughter of Bertha Butler Wall of Summit and the late Hardy Wall.
She was a domestic worker.
Mrs. Maxwell was preceded in death by her father and one brother.
Survivors include her husband, Lonnie Maxwell of Brookhaven; one son and daughter-in-law, Grover and Shelia Wall of Summit; one stepson, Omar White of Queens, N.Y.; one stepdaughter, Geraldine White of Brookhaven; five brothers, Roosevelt Dixon of Billings, Mont., Frank Dixon of Los Angeles, and Elijah, Donald and Willie Wall, all of Summit; four sisters, Ethel Dixon of Summit, Louise Wall Bates of Chicago, and Lucille Wright and Sarah Frances Wall, both of Milwaukee; three grandchildren, three uncles and two aunts.
Estella L. Givens
Estella L. Givens, 87, of McComb, died Sept. 20, 2000, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Givens was born April 25, 1913.

Jerry Brumfield
Jerry Brumfield, 51, of Magnolia, died Sept. 21, 2000, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb.
Mr. Brumfield was born Dec. 29, 1948, in Pike County.

Marvin L. Thornton
Marvin L. Thornton, 76, of Smithdale, died Sept. 20, 2000, at his residence.
Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Smithdale. The Revs. Millard Purl, David Luce and Mike Soesbe will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Thornton was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Franklin County. He was the son of Daniel R. Thornton and Lillie Fleming Thornton.
He was retired from Armstrong Tire and Rubber in Natchez. He also worked at Neola’s Fabrics in Bude.
He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Daniel Rayford Thornton and Clarence Godwin; and two sisters, Christine T. Dillon and Evelyn T. Butler.
Survivors include his wife, Neola Moore Thornton of Smithdale; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Connie T. Johnson of Wetumpka, Ala., Denise T. and Forrest Wentworth of Kitzingen, Germany, and Regena T. and Jerry W. Compton and Brenda T. and Floyd L. Netterville, all of Smithdale; one brother, J.L. Thornton of Smithdale; one sister, Ruth Davis Jones of Smithdale; and five grandchildren, Brett Johnson, Cliff and Brandon Wentworth, and Flint and Amanda Welch.
Pallbearers will be Flint Welch, Cliff Wentworth, Brandon Wentworth, Danny Dillon, Keith Mulford and Jackie Cotten.

Otha Carr
Otha Carr, 76, of Tylertown, died Sept. 19, 2000, at Walthall County General Hospital.
Visitation is 11 a.m.-6 p.m. today at Washington Funeral Home in Tylertown. Wake services are 6-8 tonight at the funeral home chapel. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday at West Sunnyhill Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Howard Franklin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Carr was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Tylertown. He was the son of Arthur Carr and Ella Ratliff Carr.
He was a farmer and a member of New Home Church of Christ. He was also a Mason.
Mr. Carr was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Williestean Butler Carr of Tylertown; five sons and daughters-in-law, J.C. and Ora Smith of Hammond, La., Otha Carr Jr. and Wynella Carr of Pontiac, Mich., and Arthur and Virginia Carr, Arcell and Evelyn Carr and Ervin and Sandra Carr, all of Tylertown; two daughters and one son-in-law, Ella Wallace of Pontiac and Bernice and Charles Smith of Tylertown; one brother, Alfred Carr of Hammond; one sister, Ardessia Carr of Tylertown; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Charles Day
Charles Day, 29, of Roxie, died Sept. 17, 2000, in Natchez in an automobile accident.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Star Hill Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Gloster, with the Rev. Eddie Dixon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Anderson Funeral Home of Gloster is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Day was born Aug. 10, 1971, in Gloster. He was the son of Frank James Hurst of Natchez and Doris V. Robinson of Gloster.
Survivors include his parents; his wife, Tara Day of Roxie; one son, Sean Park of Roxie; three daughters, Jasmine and Jamechica Day and Shantasic Park, all of Roxie; four sisters, Monique Robinson of Gloster, Corrine Weatherspoon of Liberty, Priscilla Robinson of Centreville and Tangie Robinson of Jackson; and grandmothers, Christine Day of Centreville and Dorothy M. Hurst of Gloster.
Alice A. ‘Sammy’ Foster
Alice Amy “Sammy” Foster, 92, of McCall Creek, died of heart failure Sept. 22, 2000, at her residence.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Franklin Funeral Home of Meadville is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Foster was born Jan. 9, 1908, in London, England. She was the daughter of John Henry Sampson and Minnie Baker.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her parents, one son, one brother and one sister.
Survivors include her husband, John W. Foster of McCall Creek; and one daughter, Shelia Cawn Wray of Brighton, England.

Edna Creel
Edna Creel, 77, of Amite, La., died Sept. 20, 2000, at North Oaks Hospital in Hammond, La.
Visitation began at 11 a.m. today at Hartman Funeral Home of McComb and continued until services there at 2 p.m. The Rev. Riley Hilton officiates. Burial is in Cook Cemetery of McComb.
Miss Creel was born July 28, 1923, in Amite County. She was the daughter of John Franklin Creel and Sarah Adams Creel.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith.
Miss Creel was preceded in death by her parents, and five brothers and sisters.
Survivors include one brother, John L. Creel Sr. of Metairie, La.; one sister, Beulah Creel of Amite; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Roosevelt Jackson
Roosevelt Jackson, 70, of Magnolia, died Sept. 21, 2000, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Jackson was born Feb. 16, 1930.

Newton L. Holmes
Newton Lacie Holmes, 85, of Walthall County, died Sept. 22, 2000, at Walthall County General Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. today at New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Lexie. Elder Charles Holden will officiate. Burial will be in Rushing Cemetery. Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home of Tylertown has charge of arrangements.
Mr. Holmes was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Walthall County. He was the son of Benjamin Cullen Holmes and Lizzie Johnson Holmes.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy, a farmer and a member of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Lewis Holmes; three sons, Jerry N. Holmes, Benny Holmes and Michael Holmes, all of Tylertown; one daughter, Dianne Broom of Tylertown; one brother, Cagie T. Holmes of Tylertown; one sister, Allie Holmes of Tylertown; 14 grandchildren and four great-great grand children.
Pallbearers are Steven Sanford, Jerry Holmes Jr., B.J. Holmes, Richard Holmes, Jessie Fortenberry and Tracy O’Quin.
Euna S. Kenna
Euna Statham Kenna, 76, of McComb, died Sept. 23, 2000, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Kenna agreed to donate her body to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for medical research. No memorial services will be held.
She was born June 19, 1924, in Pike County. She was the daughter of Mouton Bickham Statham and Emma Lois Allmand Statham.
Mrs. Kenna was a 23-year employee of Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center up to the time of her death. She and her husband, the late H.W. Kenna Jr., were owners of Kenna Business Machines of McComb before his death.
She was a lifetime member of the Junior Auxiliary and a member of First Baptist Church of McComb.
Mrs. Kenna was preceded in death by by her parents; her husband; a special cousin, Annette Statham Broadus; a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elsie Holly and T.B. Holly; and many other extended family members.
Survivors include a niece, Tandy Holly of McComb; an uncle, Van L. Allmand of Baton Rouge, La.; special cousins, Dickey Allmand of Smithdale, Judy Broadus Bullock of McComb and Grace Anita Riley of Denham Springs, La.; numerous other cousins and close friends.
The family said Mrs. Kenna considered her many friends at Southwest Medical Center to be her extended family as well. Her kindness and caring for others led her to donate her body to science.
