Gertrude Harris, 81, of Byhalia, died Nov. 20, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville. She was the widow of Edward Lee Harris. She was a member of Coldwater Baptist Church and an inspector with Wonder Products.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 22 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Coldwater Baptist Church cemetery. Rev. Michael May officiated.

She leaves four daughters, Marie Thompson of Southaven, Shirley Mills of Byhalia, Joyce Smith of Paducah, Ky., Charlotte Jeffreys of Destin, Fla.; five sons, Robert (Bo) Harris, Jimmy Harris, Larry Harris, Danny Harris, Randy Harris, all of Byhalia; her sister, Mary Sides Mills of Mt. Pleasant; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lawrence L. Walton
Lawrence L. “Big Rock” Walton, 68, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 23, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare in Holly Springs. He was a retired construction worker, a member of Beverly Chapel CME Church, church steward, choir president and member of Masonic Lodge.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 29 at Hopewell No. 1 MB Church. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Lexine Smith officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Dorothy J. Thompson Walton; three daughters, Cora Walton, Renee Taylor, Debbie Walker, all of Holly Springs; a son, Robert E. Walton of Memphis; a sister, Glennie Mae Ricardo of Compton, Calif.; five brothers, Robert Walton of Aurora, Ill., Kinnard (Tobe) Walton of Holly Springs, Timothy Walton of Aurora, Ill., Herbert Walton of Holly Springs, Prentiss Walton of Holly Springs; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marquette Walton; brothers, George, Willie, Leroy, David, James, and Jim Walton.

Pallbearers were Marvin Walton, Robert Woods, Jerry Reed, Keith Walton, Dayton Reed Jr., Kinnard Walton Jr. and Michael Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Walton, Herbert Walton, Tim Walton, Kinnard Walton Sr. and Dewitt Walton.

James Louis Adkins
James Louis Adkins, 77, of Byhalia, died Nov. 18, in Corinth. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 22 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch with burial in the Byhalia cemetery.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Clara Adkins; a son, Danny Adkins of Byhalia; two daughters, Hattie Nash of Rienzi, Mary Bobbitt of Olive Branch; a brother, John Adkins of Florida; two sisters, Hazel Overstreet of Clarksdale, Ethel Moats of Helena, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Sam Adkins of Picayune.

Velmon Everett
Velmon Everett, 74, of Michigan City, died Nov. 10, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare System. He was retired from the railroad.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 17 at Samuel Chapel MB Church in Ashland. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Cinderella Robinson Everett; four sons, Earl Dean of Jacksonville, Fla., Larry Wyatt of Jacksonville, Fla., William (Zeb) of Detroit, Mich., Major of Ashland; four daughters, Linda Gail of Memphis, Tenn., Lashalle (Shay) of Memphis, Tenn., Brenda of Memphis, Tenn., Carolyn of Ashland; three sisters, Marie Fulmore of Detroit, Mich., Lenora Macklin of Detroit, Mich., Susie Mae McKinnie of Michigan; five brothers, Albert Everett of Gary, Ind., Bertram Everett of Gary, Ind., Emeals Williams of Memphis, Tenn., T.T. Hampton of Memphis, Tenn., Jessie Hampton (Jick) of Holly Springs; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Matt Foster Jr.
Matt (Dirk) Foster Jr., 80, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Nov. 8, 2005 at Overton Park Health Care Center in Memphis. The widower or Cassie Foster, he was a Baptist.

Services were held at 12 noon on Nov. 16 at Greater Pleasant Hill MB Church in Memphis. Burial was in New Park Memorial Garden in Memphis. Rev. Willie H. Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves four daughters, Lucretia Foster-Wilkerson, Cassie Foster, Linda Foster, Carlean Jamison, all of Memphis; three sons, David Lee Foster, Michael Foster Sr., Matt Foster III, all of Memphis; a sister, Era Mae Gilland of Memphis; 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Brian Foster, Jason Foster, Martin Foster, John Foster Jr., Marcus Wilkerson, Larry Bell. Honorary pallbearers were David Foster, Michael Foster and Matt Foster III.

Theresa Elizabeth DeGraw Hill
Theresa Elizabeth DeGraw Hill, 86, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 15, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare. She was the widow of Robert Speer Hill and a Presbyterian.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 18 at First Presbyterian Church of Holly Springs. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three sons, Robert S. Hill Jr. of Utica, Ind., Thomas Arthur Hill of Jackson, David Jonathon Hill of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters, Sandy Miller of Holly Springs, Lauren Hill of Kingston Springs, Tenn.; two sisters, Frances Bertsch of New Jersey, Janet DeGraw of Maine; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Robert Neil Sullivan
Robert Neil (Buddy) Sullivan, 80, of Byhalia died Nov. 17, 2005 at the Mississippi State Veteran’s Home in Oxford. He was a retired right-of-way foreman with Northcentral MS EPA and a World War II veteran.

Services were held at 12 noon on Nov. 23 at Emory Independent Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home of Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Stephens Sullivan; four daughters, Cindy Wilson, Jenny Liles, both of Byhalia, Robin Cox, Kerry Russom, both of Olive Branch; three brothers, James (Blue) Sullivan, Billy Sullivan of Mendenhall, Gary Sullivan of Mt. Olive; two sisters, Tyna Sullivan, Judy Burnham, both of Mendenhall; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: Alzheimers Association, Mississippi Chapter, 1900 Dunbarton Circle, Suite 1, Jackson, MS 39216; or North Mississippi Hospice of Oxford, 104 Skyline Drive, Oxford, MS 38655.

Opal Virginia Gimmons Taylor
Opal Virginia Gimmons Taylor, 94, of Gleason, Tenn., died Nov. 14, 2005. She was the widow of Ira Odean Taylor. She was a member of Almo Baptist Church in Reeves, Tenn.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 16 at Gleason First Baptist Church. Burial was in Carroll County Memorial Gardens. Rev. Ernie King officiated. Gallimore Funeral Home in Gleason was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three sons, Jim Taylor of Gleason, Tenn., Gene Taylor of Moscow, Tenn., Jerome Taylor of Gleason; two daughters, Geraldine Taylor of Saginaw, Mich., Sandra Kae McMackin of Huntingdon, Tenn.; a sister, Gladys Pemick of Martin, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons, Mark Eva, Ken Taylor, Bobby Taylor, Randy Taylor, Terry Taylor, Donnie McMackin, Eric McMackin and Steven Stewart.

George Lewis Dowdy
George Lewis (Jack) Dowdy, 84, of Holly Springs, died Nov. 4, 2005 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was the widower of Mae Bell Boga Dowdy. He was a former deacon, a former choir president, a member of Masonic Lodge, and a retired security guard with Rust College.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 11 at Powell Chapel MB Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a daughter, Mae Louis Cathey of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Arthur Willie Dowdy of Lombard, Ill., Ernest Campbell of Memphis, Tenn., Eric Rooks of Potts Camp; a sister, Ella LeSure of Potts Camp; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Sidney Lewis Dowdy, George Earnest Dowdy, Joe Allen Dowdy; three brothers, Rush Luellen, John Zinn, Elton Reynolds.

Pallbearers were Earnest L. Campbell, Algenum V. Cathey, Jermaine M. Dowdy, Emon Cathey Jr., Joe A. Dowdy Jr. and Detroy Williams.

James Sewell Burns

James Sewell Burns, 61, of Potts Camp, died March 10, 2006 at his home. He was a Roman Catholic, and a machine operator.

A private memorial service was held. Burial was in The Memorial Gardens in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his sister, Charlotte Burns Johnson of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; a nephew, James Johnson of Athens, Tenn. three nieces, Mary H. Johnson of Citronelle, Ala., Kelly Johnson, Charlotte Moore, both of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and four great-nephews Lee and Ben Abbott of Oak Ridge and Benjamin and Daniel Johnson, both of Athens.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.

Rosie J. Butler

Rosie J. Butler, 54, of Holly Springs, died March 7, 2006 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Oxford.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 11 at Thyatira Church of Christ in Tyro. Burial was in Wall Hill Church cemetery in Independence. Rev. Lonnie Pitts officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Dan Butler; four children, Rosalind Adams, Harvey McClarty Jr., both of Byhalia, Erin Lee McClarty, Erica Lynn McClarty, both of Holly Springs; a stepdaughter, Gwendolyn D. Lesueur of Memphis, Tenn.; seven brothers, Van L. Davis, James A. Davis, Lee N. Davis, Jerome B. McClarty, all of Byhalia, John M. Davis of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Frankie L. Davis and Nathaniel Davis Jr., both of Jacksonville, Fla.; four sisters, Gladys M. Barber, Cassandra Barber Mims, Debra McKinney, all of Byhalia, Lorrine Beard of Holly Springs; and seven grandchildren.

Barbara Daddis Childers

Barbara Daddis Childers, 62, of Paragonah, Utah, died March 7, 2006 at her home.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on March 10 at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven. Collierville Funeral Home in Collierville, Tenn., was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her children, Richard Childers of Benton, La., Rod Childers of Holly Springs, Tammy Robb of Cedar City, Utah, Greg Childers of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Jackie Mortell; a brother, Dick Daddis; and eight grandchildren.

Mary F. Hill

Mary F. Hill, 92, of Holly Springs, died March 12, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of Wintfred Hill. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Holly Springs, and keyboard finisher with Wurlitzer, Inc.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 16 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Jim Fox and Wint Fox officiated.

She leaves her son, Jimmy C. Fox of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandsons, Jim Fox of Ashland, Ky., and Wint Fox of Colonial Heights, Va.; four great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

Pearl Morton Hobson

Pearl Morton Hobson, 91, of Ashland, died March 10, 2006 at Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. She was the widow of Mayor Morton and Henry Hobson. She was a Baptist and a trimmer with ABC Factory.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 12 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Country Church cemetery in Lamar. Bro. Troy Defer officiated.

She leaves two sons, Howard G. Morton of Bartlett, Tenn., Boyd Morton of Hickory Flat; a daughter, Evelyn Weatherly of Nesbit; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Frankie Morton and Billy Morton; and a daughter, Frances Frayser.

Walter Anthony Barbour Jr.

Walter Anthony Barbour Jr., 24, of the Ingram’s Mill Community, died Sept. 26, 2006. He attended Barton Baptist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 30 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel in Olive Branch. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery.

He leaves his wife, Alicia Barbour; a son, Collyn Anthony Barbour; his parents, Walter and Sandra Barbour; grandparents, Nell Barbour and Walter Barbour; and his sister, Amber B. Greer.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Katherine and Earl Abston.

Memorials may be made to Barton Baptist Church.
