Mary Lee Jones Richmond, 84, of Lamar, died Oct. 13, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of Billy Richmond Jr.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Hudsonville CME Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Bobby Wilson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four daughters, Pauline Davis of Nashville, Tenn., Ruby Fitzpatrick of Chicago, Ill., Olivia Williams, Beatrice Combs, both of Dayton, Ohio; four sons, Tracy Richmond, Wade Richmond, both of Lamar, Lynell Richmond of Nashville, Leon Richmond of Chicago; two sisters, Saddie Lee Snow of Chicago, Leonia Beckum of Detroit, Mich.; six brothers, Eddie Jones, Walter Jones, Leonard Jones, William Jones, all of Detroit, Mich., Elettice Jones of Chicago, Ill., Attwood Jones Jr. of Chicago; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, David Richmond, Curtis Richmond; and two sisters, Sadie Lee Jenkins and Olivia.

Pallbearers were Henry Davis, Robert Penilton, Lynell Richmond, Charles D. Isom, Wade Richmond and Leon Richmond.

Lynda Franklin Willard

Lynda Franklin Willard, 80, of Oxford, died Oct. 22, 2005 at her home. She was a retired switchboard operator with Southern Bell Telephone and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was a member of North Oxford Baptist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford. Burial was in Oxford Memorial cemetery. Dr. Gary Richardson officiated.

She leaves her husband, Freeman A. Willard; a daughter, Phyllis Willard Holmes of Abbeville; and three grandchildren.

Carol Jean Wilson

Carol Jean Wilson, 67, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 19, 2005 at her daughter’s home in Olive Branch. She was the widow of Joe Barney Wilson. She was a member of First Baptist Church and deli manager at Carlisle’s Big Star.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 22 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery.

She leaves two sons, Joe Harold Wilson of Brandon, Danny Wayne Wilson of Olive Branch; two daughters, Rita Carol Smith of Ingrams Mill, Anita Hughey of Olive Branch; two brothers, Horton Gullett of Red Banks, Harold Gullett of Atoka, Tenn.; a sister, Doris Nelson of Murphreesboro, Tenn.; and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Fred Carlisle, Dennis Carlisle, Tommy Nelson, James Gullett, Harold Gullett Jr., Tommy Mitchell, Mark Haney and Daniel Hyde.

Johnny Eldridge Wooten

Johnny Eldridge Wooten, 43, of Waterford, died Oct. 19, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare System. He was a construction worker with Jeco Construction Company.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 22 at Hamilton Chapel CME Church in Waterford, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Billy Williams officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Shelia Smith Wooten of Oxford; three daughters, Lashaundra Blake, Karen Wooten, Crystal Wooten, all of Oxford; his father, Lawrence Wooten of Holly Springs; his mother, Ethel Byers Wooten of Waterford; two sisters, Doris Byers of Waterford, Anita Kirkwood of Bowling Green, Ky.; two brothers, Lawrence Wooten Jr. of Waterford, Lonnie Wooten of Montgomery, Ill.

Pallbearers were Tommy Neil Jr., Johnny Nunnal, Clay Byers, Bill Jones, Bobby Jeffries and Cecil Ingram. Honorary pallbearers were Lawrence Wooten, Lonnie Wooten, George Kirkwood, Adrian Byers, Chris Byers and Elgie Flemmons.

Lizzie Mae Smith Young

Lizzie Mae Smith (Little Mama) Young, 96, of Michigan City, died Oct. 12, 2005 at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Peter Young, a former choir member and on the Mother Board.

Services were held at 12 noon on Oct. 22 at Sims Chapel MB Church in Michigan City, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Adam Gholson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Erma Young Webber of Michigan City; two sons, L.B. Young of Chicago, Ill., Melvin Young of Grand Junction, Tenn.; two granddaughters she reared, Jacqueline Seals of Chicago, JoAnn Young Braddock of Bolivar, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren she reared, Quondee Evans of West Chester, Ill., Mernitia Dortch Hoyle of Ashland, Jermaine Seals of Michigan City; 59 grandchildren, 121 great-grandchildren and 51 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Earline Young Wells, Lucy Mae Hampton; two sisters, Julia Coley, Willie Mae Peeler, four brothers, Will Smith, Hamp Smith, Ben Smith, Dan Smith Jr.; one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers were Darryl Webber Jr., James Webber Jr., Jarnard Wells, Joe Webber, Corvel Young and Jermaine Seals. Honorary pallbearers were James Webber, Darryl Webber, Jared Webber, Greg Webber, Garry Webber and Derrick Webber.

Alonzo Brown
Alonzo Brown, 66, of Lansing, Mich., formerly of Oxford, died Oct. 5, 2005 at Sparrow Medical Center in Lansing. He was a retired production supervisor in the textile factory.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct 12 at St. Peters cemetery in Oxford. Rev. Peter Johnson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves three daughters, Jeanella Brown, Shannon Brown, Leta Brown, all of Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son, Kendall Brown of Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sisters, Dr. Georgia Brown Padonu, Doyle Jones Mayes, both of Holt, Mich. and a host of grandchildren.

Elizabeth Ann Feathers
Elizabeth Ann Feathers, 67, of Potts Camp, died Oct. 13, 2005 at Graceland Care Center in New Albany. She was a retired employee of Wal-Mart.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 13 at First Baptist Church of Potts Camp, where she was a member. Burial was in Potts Camp cemetery. Bro. Jim Buchanan and Bro. Frank Feathers officiated.

She leaves three sons, Thomas Green of Southaven, John Feathers of Olive Branch, Billy Gurley of Potts Camp; two daughters, Sissye F. Harris of Myrtle, Beth G. Overall of Potts Camp; two sisters, Kathy Pannell of Byhalia, Jean Whaley of Potts Camp; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a very dear friend, V.A. Feathers.

Pallbearers were Kelly McMillen, Mike McMillen, David Whaley, Dickey Whaley, Darrell Whaley, Scott Feathers and Bubba Feathers.

Curtis Lee Akins

Curtis Lee Akins, 39, of Byhalia, died July 17, 2006 in Byhalia. He was a member of Wall Hill Church of Christ Church in Independence.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on July 22 at Mt. Gillian MB Church in Byhalia. Burial was in Wall Hill Church of Christ cemetery. Bro. Lonnie Pitts officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Tammy Wilson Akins; a daughter, Leatrice Akins of Byhalia; a son, Curtis Akins Jr. of Byhalia; his mother, Stella Akins Davis of Byhalia; a sister, Sharon Evans of Holly Springs; a brother, Richard Akins of Byhalia; and his grandmother, Mary Newsom of Coldwater.

Pallbearers were Bobby Evans, Robert Evans, John Mays, Sonny Brown, Dewayne Fitts and Larry Pollard.

Shirley Dale Ammons

Shirley Dale Ammons, 59, of Olive Branch, died July 19, 2006 at Baptist Desoto in Southaven. She was a member of Assembly of God.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 23 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery.

She leaves a son, Tony Ammons of Olive Branch; a daughter, Noria Hernandez of Byhalia; a brother, William Brown of Booneville; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Walter M. Byrd

Walter M. Byrd, 81, of Moscow, Tenn., formerly of Marshall County, died July 21, 2006 at Baptist Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. He was a cattleman and landowner in Marshall and Benton counties before his retirement and move to Moscow six years ago.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 23 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville, Tenn. with Rev. David Parlow, pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church near Moscow, officiating. Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Katie McClure Byrd; and four sisters, Mary Carpenter, Francis Allen, both of Lamar, Addie Mae Bolden, Mabel Boone, both of Holly Springs.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Pallbearers were Joel Allen, Jesse Byrd, Lowrance Byrd, Tommy Byrd, James McClure and John McClure. Honorary pallbearers were Adam Byrd, Allen Byrd, Larry Byrd, Danny McClure and Danny Rhea.

The family requests memorials be directed to Oak Grove Baptist Church or the Oak Grove cemetery Association at Moscow.

Richard Neville Delbridge Sr.

Richard (Dick) Neville Delbridge Sr., 73, of Byhalia, died July 20, 2006 at Baptist DeSoto in Southaven. He was a Navy veteran of Korea. He was assistant manager of Sunkist Growers Inc. After his retirement from Sunkist, he became involved in his son’s business, Magnolia Custom Fabricators in Holly Springs.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on July 22 at Emory Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Lou Delbridge; a son, Richard (Skip) Delbridge Jr. of Byhalia; two daughters, Katherine Harding of San Antonio, Tx., Laura Delbridge of Durham, NC; and three grandchildren.

Gene Gilmer

Gene Gilmer, 86, of Cayce, died July 19, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired mechanic from Cartwright Nursery.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on July 22 at Collierville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Fisherville cemetery in Eads, Tenn.

He leaves five daughters, Dorothy Gilmer, Linda Gilmer, both of Cayce, Mary Snipes, Martha Bailey, both of Memphis, Tenn., Ruby Umstead of Oakland, Tenn.; a son, Donald Gilmer of Red Banks; two sisters, Elsie Joyner of Collierville, Lois Bryan of Cayce; four brothers, Clarence Gilmer of Collierville, Everett Gilmer of Arlington, Tenn., Marvin Gilmer of Olive Branch, Billy Gilmer of Holly Springs; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Charley Lee Holloway

Charley Lee Holloway, 62, of Milwaukee, Wisc., formerly of Holly Springs, died July 16, 2006 at Marian Franciscian Center, Milwaukee. He was a retired laborer with a steel mill in Milwaukee.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 22 at Rising Star MB Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. O. Williams officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves seven children; his parents, Sammie and Roxie Holloway, both of Holly Springs; two sisters, Connie Gordon of Chicago, Ill., Arleaus Bogard of Holly Springs; two brothers, Nathaniel Holloway of Holly Springs, Girves Holloway of Atlanta, Ga.; and several grandchildren.

James Elihue Howell

James Elihue (Big White) Howell, 71, of Holly Springs, died July 18, 2006 at Alliance Health Care System. He was chairman of the deacon board, Sunday school teacher, former member of Twilight Singers and member of Masonic Lodge #339.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 22 at Strawberry MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Willie F. Jeffries Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Opherine Johnson Howell; two daughters, Shirley Howell Dowdy of Holly Springs, Catherine Howell Bridges of Holly Springs; a son, Jimmie (Chip) Howell of Holly Springs; three sisters, LuGussie Jennings of Mt. Clemens, Mich., Evelyn Howell, Emma Lee Howell, both of Holly Springs; a brother, Monroe Howell Jr. of Holly Springs; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Michael Isom, Tommy Howell, Naymond Isom, Douglas Howell, Daniel Isom, Alvertis Ingram, Kevin Isom and Termon Gary. Honorary pallbearers were Thomas E. Jennings, Kenneith Jennings, Alex Hawkins Sr., Clarence Leatherwood, Wallace Freeman, Ollie Ingram and Strawberry MB Church deacon board.
