Anthony M. Gordon

PORT GIBSON - Services for Elder Anthony M. Gordon, 86, who died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church with Elder James Devine and the Rev. Frank McGriggs officiating.

Burial will be in the Pine Grove Christian Church cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Inc.

Visitation is from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from noon until service time Saturday at the church.

He received his early education in the Claiborne County Training School and furthered his studies at the Southern Christian Institute and the Theological Institute in Paducah, Ky. He was currently pastor of First Christian Church in Hermanville, Mt. Zion Christian Church in the Willows Community and past pastor of Rose Hill Christian Church, Pine Grove Christian Church in Claiborne County and Little Zion Christian Church in Jefferson County.

Elder Gordon was preceded in death by his parent, Cornelia Williams; his first wife, Bennie Hamilton-Gordon; two sons, Henry L. Gordon and Napoleon B. Gordon Sr.; two foster brothers and one foster sister.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Moore Gordon of Port Gibson; one daughter, Sarah Gordon-Chambliss of Port Gibson; six sons, Cornelus Gordon of Vicksburg, Robert Gordon Sr. of Clarksdale, Thomas Gordon of Broadview, Ill., Anthony Gordon of Chicago, Alfred Gordon Jr. of Orlando, Fla. and Lester Patton of Clinton; foster brother, Fred Green of St. Louis; five daughters-in-law, Fannie Gordon of Vicksburg, Shirley Gordon of Clarksdale, Hattie Gordon of Orlando, Mary Gordon of Broadview and Pauline Gordon of Silverdale, Ill.; 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dora L. Glasper

April 4, 1919 - Jan. 16, 2003

WOODVILLE - Services for Dora L. Glasper, 83, of Woodville, who died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Field Memorial Hospital, will be at noon Friday at Hopewell AME Church with the Rev. Lloyd Bailey officiating.

Burial will be in Rule cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Mrs. Glasper was born icon April 4, 1919, in Lanehart, the daughter of Chester and Nora Henyard.

She was a member and on the mother board at Hopewell AME Church.

Survivors include her husband, Dwant Glasper of Woodville; one son, Woodrow Lindsey; one daughter, Debra Smith of Woodville; one grandson, Venson Smith; one granddaughter, Nozavalla Smith; two brothers, Gene McDonald and George Henyard of Kenner, La.; one sister, Maggie Prater.

Pallbearers will be John Smith, Lance Smith, Tommie Smith, Charles Smith, Jerry R. Henyard and Nell Hawkins.

Charles Joseph Mascagni Sr.

Feb. 15, 1930 - Jan. 21, 2003

NATCHEZ - Mass of the Resurrection for Charles Joseph Mascagni Sr., 72, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. today at Assumption Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike O'Brien officiating.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mr. Mascagni was born icon Feb. 15, 1930, in Natchez, the son of Celia and Genevieve Verucchi Mascagni.

Survivors include his children, Charles Mascagni and his wife, Kim, Paul Mascagni and his wife, Tracey and Jennifer Slay, all of Baton Rouge, Modie Mascagni and his wife, Renee and Stephen Piglio and Celia, all of New Orleans, and Michael Mascagni of Natchez; 11 grandchildren, Charla, Charles III, Sarah, Malorie, Taylor, Liva, Stephen, Dillon, Mary Kathryn, John and Ainsley; and one sister, Bernice Tiffee and her husband, Sam.

Fred Herring Jr.

Aug. 11, 1935 - Jan. 22, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Fred Herring Jr., 67, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Dan Wynn and Dr. Judson B. Hurt officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Herring was born icon Aug. 11, 1935, in Lincoln County, the son of Fred and May Smith Herring Sr.

He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Herring was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Herring of Natchez; one son, Ken Herring and his wife, Sandra, both of Natchez; one daughter, Judy Johnson and her husband, Kenny, both of Manchester, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Connie Liebig and her husband, Benji, both of Manchester, and Sarai and Chase Herring, both of Natchez; two great grandchildren, Noah and Ashley Liebig; and three sisters, Amarilys Nations and Ann Rughing, both of Brookhaven and Sue Reed of Baker, La.

Pallbearers will be Brian Marble, Barry Marble, Freddie Nations, Timmy Nations, Johnny Rushing and Steve Rushing.

The family request memorials be made to the Natchez Children's Home.

Ethel Elizabeth Evans

Oct. 15, 1916 - Jan. 20, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Ethel Elizabeth "Lizzie" Evans, 86, of Natchez, who died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Morningstar Baptist Church with the Rev. Ruben E. Evans Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ms. Evans was born icon Oct. 15, 1916, in Adams County, the daughter of George Dunmore and Bell Brown Dunmore.

She was educated at Windy Hill No. 1 School, a homemaker and a member of Morningstar Baptist Church where she served on the usher board and a member of Morningstar Club.

Survivors include two sons, Horace Evans Jr. of Gloster and the Rev. Ruben E. Evans and his wife, Stella, both of Natchez; two daughters, Mabel Evans and Mary E. Rounds, both of Natchez; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Calvit, Andrew Smith, Jerome Logan, Billy Ray Johnson, Roderick Bland and Robert Davis.

Edwin Smith

Funeral arrangements for Edwin "Eddie" Smith, 60, of Clayton, La., who died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Clayton, are incomplete at Young's Funeral Home.

John Paul Hall

Dec. 12, 1951 - Jan. 24, 2003

CRANFIELD - Services for John Paul "Fatboy" Hall, 51, of Roxie, who died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cranfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Curt Wilson officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 10 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Hall was born icon Dec. 12, 1951, in Adams County, the son of Leslie and Annie Mae Dunson Hall.

He was a member of Natchez Moose Lodge No. 1662, served as president of Local Boiler Makers of Natchez, was a rodeo clown and was a Vietnam veteran.

Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Roberta Marie Dunson.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Hall of Roxie; one son, John Paul Hall Jr. and his wife, Racheal, both of Tompson, Ga.; two daughters, Stacey Lynn Norris and her husband, Mark E. Norris, both of Roxie, and Ellisa Darlene H. Johnston and her husband, James, both of Valley, Ala.; six grandsons, Mark Norris Jr., Caleb Hall, Cory Hall, Deokta Johnston, Nathan Johnston and Zachary Paul Johnston; three brothers, Carol "Doc" Hall of Mendenhall, Curtis Hall and Travis Hall, both of Carson; two sisters, Linda Hathorn Winningham of Hattiesburg and Elizabeth Ward of Florence; father-in-law, Dave Dunson of Natchez; and a number of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Lorine Luellen Bell
Lorine Luellen Bell, 90, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 3, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of J.D. Bell Sr.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 8 at Hernando Road Church of Christ in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Willie James Hampton officiated.

She leaves three daughters, Eunice Bell, Clara Bowens, Birdie Evans, all of Holly Springs; a son, William Bell of Holly Springs; a sister, Lenora Cowans of Louisville, Kent.; 41 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Dereak James, Matthew Gorman, Roderick Jackson Sr., Leon Bell, Tony Neely, Melvin Sims. Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Luellen, Charles Sellers, Melvin Greer Jr., Robert Bell, Carlos Evans and Eric Rooks.

Calvin Branch Sr.
Calvin Branch Sr., 59, of Coldwater, died Sept. 30, 2005 at his home. He was a maintenance worker.

Services were held at 12 noon on Oct. 8 at West Oak Grove Church of Christ in Hernando, where he was a member and served as an usher. Burial was in Bluff Road Church of Christ cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Eloise Hill Branch; four daughters, Linda Hurd of Tunica, Rosie L. Branch, Amanda Hill, Miranda Cotton, all of Memphis, Tenn.; five sons, Calvin Fleming of Orlando, Fla., Eugene C. Branch Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Micheal Branch, Vincent Branch, both of Tunica, Sebrun Branch of Hernando; two sisters, Lula Mae Blair of Memphis, Tenn., Lois Branch of Southaven; two brothers, Levester Branch of Memphis, Tenn., Bishop Carl Branch of Sedalia, Mo.; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Hugh V. Bullock Jr.
Hugh V. (Chip) Bullock, 56, of Byhalia, died Oct. 5, 2005. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Byhalia and employed by the Southern Baptist Education Center.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 10 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel in Olive Branch. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans cemetery in Memphis, Tenn.

He leaves his wife of 30 years, Barbara Bullock; two sons, Jeremy and Justin (Pete) Bullock; a brother, John Bullock of South Carolina; and one grandson.

Joyce Fooshee Bumpas
Joyce Avonale Fooshee Bumpas, 61, of Mt. Pleasant, died Oct. 3, 2005 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant and an office manager with Star Electric Co.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Union cemetery in Kossuth. Bro. John Budlong officiated.

She leaves her husband, Donald Bumpas; three daughters, Melissa Ann Bumpas Gardner of Shreveport, La., Stephanie Ethel Bumpas Russell of Germantown, Tenn., Donna Sue Bumpas Meadows of Collierville, Tenn.; her mother Avis Christine Fooshee of Shreveport, La.; two brothers, Olis Fooshee of Germantown, Paul Fooshee of Cordova, Tenn.; three sisters, Geraldine Dean of Cordova, Tenn., Marilyn Nelson of West Memphis, Ark., Sue Pattridge of Shreveport, La.; and six grandchildren.

Linda F. Cook
Linda F. Cook, 59, of Holly Springs, died Oct. 8, 2005 at her home. She was a Christian and a computer systems operator with Revenue Assurance.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 11 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans cemetery in Memphis, Tenn. Bro. Tim Anderson officiated.

She leaves her husband, Glenn L. Cook; two daughters, Barrie Ann Uptagrafft of Cordova, Tenn., Stacy Lynn Clayton of Holly Springs; a brother, James D. Brown of Cordova, Tenn.; a sister, Frankie Lynn Dugard; and four grandchildren.
