NATCHEZ - Services for Kenneth Steiner Jr., 68, of Natchez, who died Friday, March 21, 2003 at his residence, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Dan Wynn officiating.
Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Steiner was born
February 9, 1935, in Bradford, Pa., the son of Kenneth Keith Steiner, Sr. and Doris Cobb Steiner. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Mississippi Bar Association.
Survivors include a son, Keith Steiner, and his wife, Camille, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a granddaughter, Mallory Grace Steiner; an aunt, Margaret Mock of Natchez; a cousin, Page Sauls and her husband, John, of Natchez; two uncles, M.C. Cobb of Natchez and Joseph Cobb of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and longtime caregivers Carlotta Washington, Ruthie Fleming and Mary Koster, all of Natchez.
Honorary pallbearers are Lennie Schuchs; Thomas McNeely, Reynolds Atkins, Buster Junkin, Lewis Powell, Dickie Junkin, Emory E. Morgan and Chester Hoover.
Charles P. Morel
NATCHEZ - Services for Charles P. Morel, 82, of Mobile, Ala., who died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in Naples, Fla., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Basilica.
A reception for friends and family will follow the service in St Theresa's hall, with a private burial to follow.
Mr. Morel was a resident of Natchez and parishioner of St Mary's from 1942 to 1966. He was the owner/operator of the Star Theater and Starlight Drive-In during that period.
Survivors include his former wife Dorothy of Alexandria, La.; son Charles Morel of Naples; grandchildren Paul Morel and Sharon Morel-Lawrence; and great-granddaughter Caitlin Morel-Lawrence.
Memorial tributes in lieu of flowers are requested to St Mary's or a charity of your choosing.
Edith Claughton Rowland
ROXIE - Services for Edith Claughton Rowland, 97, of Meadville, who died Friday, March 21, 2003, at Meadville Nursing Home, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Roxie Baptist Church.
Burial will be at Roxie cemetery under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home.
Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and noon to service time Monday at the church.
Mrs. Rowland was born
Sept. 25, 1905, in Franklin County, the daughter of John Claughton and Janie Graves Claughton. She was a retired substitute mail carrier and a member of Roxie Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.
Lucille Smith
Lucille Smith, 88, of Holly Springs, died July 6, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Benny P. Smith. She was a member of Whitehaven Church of Christ.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 8 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery.
She leaves a sister, Alise Wilson White of Hickory Flat.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Rufus Wilson, James Wilson, Vernon Wilson, Ray Wilson, Joe Wilson; and sisters, Ruby Johnson, Sallie Cothern.
Maenuia Spight
Maenuia Spight, 53, of Holly Springs, died July 3, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of the usher board, Missionary Society and Christian Education Dept. She was a dental assistant with GEO Corporation, Marshall County Correctional Facility.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on July 8 at Isom Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe T. Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Veronica Spight of Memphis, Tenn.; her mother, Annie Jones Spight of Holly Springs; three sisters, Arnora Marshall, Delorise Jones, both of Memphis, Tenn., Sandra Overshown of Boston, Mass.; four brothers, Leon Spight of Holly Springs, Alex Spight Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Brankely Spight, Raymond Spight, both of Holly Springs; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alex Spight Sr.; her sister, Evia Spight; and her brother, Lavern Spight.
Pallbearers were Melvin Baskin, Rocky Shoats, Bonnye Jordan, DeMarce Spight, Dwayne Spight and Christopher Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Alex Spight Jr., Leon Spight, Brankley Spight and Raymond Spight.
Shirley J. Pierce
Shirley J. White Pierce, 71, of Holly Springs, died July 7, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. She was the widow of James Richard Pierce. She was a Baptist. She was owner/operator of Shirley’s Fabrics and former owner of Cato’s Fashions in Holly Springs.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 9 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Dr. Curtis Ferrell and Rev. Donnie Stewart officiated.
She leaves her son, Tony Pierce of Bartlett, Tenn.; her daughter, Tanya Conway of Olive Branch; a brother, Max White of Denmark, Miss.; five sisters, Dora Williams of Iuka, Ginger Morris of Water Valley, Tilly House, Rose House, both of Denmark, Miss., Sarah Holloway of Mountain View, Mo.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Hope Hall.
Pauline Grissom
Pauline Grissom, 81, of Memphis, Tenn., died June 30, 2006 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. The widow of Amon Grissom, she was a member of Willow Oaks Pentecostal Church and a former restaurant manager.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Clear Creek cemetery in Lamar. Dr. Tony Loskoski officiated.
She leaves a daughter, Mary B. Skelton of Holly Springs; a sister, Earline White of Collierville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Sidney Bumpas and Donald Grissom.
James Martin
James Martin, 70, of Byhalia, died June 29, 2006 at his home. He was a member and deacon at Street Hill Primitive Baptist Church and a retired truck driver for the Marshall County Road Department.
Services were held at 12 noon on July 3 at Union Valley MB Church in Byhalia with burial in Street Hill Church cemetery in Byhalia. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves eight daughters, Sherona Howell of Byhalia, Renachia Martin of Victoria, Chandra Martin, Joeann Martin, Irma Armstrong, Verhonda Corley, Sarah Parker, Kimberly Hardaway, all of Memphis, Tenn.; three sons, Jackie Mitchell Martin of Byhalia, Gregory Martin of Memphis, Tenn., Dominic Martin of Victoria; a sister, Chrestora Hawk of Byhalia; a brother, Marshall Martin of Palestine, Ark.; 46 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Nathan Isom Jr.
Nathan Isom Jr., 74, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 25, 2006 at his home. He was the widower of Louise Hamilton Isom. He was a member of Mt. Teamer CME Church in Holly Springs. He was a construction worker with Continental Foundry in Olive Branch.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 3 at Powell Chapel MB Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Eddie Walker officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves five daughters, Alice Isom of Holly Springs, Sarah Isom, Ruby Isom, both of New Albany, Tamera Isom, Devita Isom, both of Fayetteville, NC; a son, James Isom of Holly Springs; three stepdaughters, Jarceland Nichols, Tanja Brown, Rotosha Sinkfield, all of Holly Springs; a stepson, Darryl Holloway of Holly Springs; a sister, Annie Bell Robinson of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Larry Isom of Holly Springs; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bill Jones, Nathaniel Jones, Ronnie Isom, Robert Isom, Darryl Holloway and Jarvis Jeffries.
Simon Lesure
Simon Lesure, 101, of Byhalia, died Feb. 23, 2006 at Trinity Health and Rehab in Holly Springs. He was a laborer with Burlington Northern Railroad.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 1 at St. Matthews MB Church, where he was a member. Burial was in Powell MB Church cemetery. Rev. Archie Bowen officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a daughter, Bertha H. Woods-Simpson of Byhalia; a son, Tom Preston Lesure of St. Paul, Minn.; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Lamont Coleman King, Freddie Hodges, McArthur Porter, Clarence Looney, Theodras Hughes, Arthur Martin, Terry Duke and Delantric Hill. Honorary pallbearers were Tracy Hodges, Andre Hodges, Milton Hardin, Tom Preston Lesure, Johnny Hardin, Billy Simpson and Travis Hardin.
Mary Alice Perry
Mary Alice Perry, 55, of Aurora, Ill., died Feb. 26, 2006 at her home. She was a native of Marshall County, formerly of Holly Springs.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on March 4 at Clear Creek MB Church in Oxford. Burial was in Oxford Memorial cemetery. Rev. Eddie Goliday officiated. Hodges Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Tommie Lee Perry; two sons, Tommie Lee Perry IV, Taurus Pryor, both of Aurora, Ill.; her mother, Birdia Nabors of Holly Springs; her father, Columbus (Clem) Jones of Holly Springs; 13 sisters and four brothers; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Herbert Sharlande Phillips Jr.
Herbert Sharlande Phillips Jr., 67, of Memphis, Tenn., died Feb. 26, 2006 at his home. While attending Ole Miss, he was the president of his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi. He completed post-graduate work at Tulane University in New Orleans and New York University. He was affiliated with the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. After leaving the Department of Justice, he returned home to Holly Springs and Memphis to pursue the practice of law.
Services were held at 1 pm. on March 3 at Christ Episcopal Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member.
He leaves a son, Herbert Sharlande Phillips III; a sister, Martha Rives Phillips Smith; and two grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Christ Episcopal Church.
Annie Laura Spears
Annie Laura Spears, 56, of Potts Camp, died Feb. 27, 2006 at her home. She was a machine operator with Mulay Plastics.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 2 at Evangel Full Gospel Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Montie Scherff officated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Travis Spears; a sister, Alice Gonzales of Holly Springs; and many friends and family.
Earl Dwain Taylor
Earl Dwain Taylor, 75, of Potts Camp, died Feb. 27, 2006 at his home. He was the widower of Wilma Louise Taylor. He was a Baptist, a contractor and a U.S. Army veteran.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 1 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Pine Grove cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Donald Worsham and Bro. Chuck Fowler officiated.
He leaves three sons, David Earl Taylor of Albany, Ga., Carey Ralph Taylor of Potts Camp, Mark Dwain Taylor of Honolulu, Hawaii; two daughters, Deborah Louise McCullough of Potts Camp, Susan Taylor Robinson of Potts Camp; four brothers, Roy Taylor of Lamar, Frank Taylor of Olive Branch, James Ed Taylor of Lamar, Gilbert Lee Taylor of Hickory Flat; two sisters, Betty Sue Todd of Ecru, Louise Wilson of Nashville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
