Johnny Lee McNeil Jr., 30, of Como, died May 21, 2005 in Nashville, Tenn. He was a factory worker.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 29 at Beulah Baptist Church in Como. Burial was in Hammond Hill cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two sons, Cordarius Milan of Sardis, Terrell Carpenter of Como; his parents, Bessie Lee McNeil and Johnny B. McNeil of Como; five sisters, Shirley Ann Little, Patricia McNeil, Juanita McNeil, Mary McNeil, all of Como, Jeanette Little of Waterford; and two brothers, James Little, Tracy McNeil, both of Como.

Lawrence Pannell Jr.
Lawrence (Tony) Pannell Jr., 60, of Holly Springs, died May 23, 2005 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis. He was the widower of Cora Edna Pannell, a Baptist and a welder and fitter.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 26 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek cemetery in Lamar.

He leaves a son, Rodney Wayne Pannell of Olive Branch; two daughters, Tammy Renee Morris of Greenville, S.C., Tonya James Pannell of Holly Springs; two stepdaughters, Carol Ann Henley of Byhalia, Marilyn Sue Garrett of Houlka; three brothers, Tommy Wayne Pannell, Jimmy Dale Pannell, both of Red Banks, James Edward Pannell of Southaven; two sisters, Linda Pannell Evans of Red Banks, Kathy Pannell Bailey of Southaven; eight grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was joined in death by his father, Lawrence Vinson Pannell Sr.

Lawrence Vinson Pannell Sr.
Lawrence Vinson Pannell Sr., 80, of Holly Springs, died May 23, 2005 in Holly Springs. He was the widower of Annie Lorene Pannell, a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church in Lamar, and a trailer builder with Fruehauf. He had been a deacon at Clear Creek Baptist Church since 1966.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 26 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek cemetery.

He leaves three sons, Tommy Wayne Pannell, Jimmy Dale Pannell, both of Red Banks, James Edward Pannell of Southaven; two daughters, Linda Pannell Evans of Red Banks, Kathy Pannell Bailey of Southaven; two brothers, Thurman Pannell of Southaven, Dewey Pannell of Holly Springs; a sister, Ethel Pannell of Holly Springs; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was joined in death by a son, Lawrence V. (Tony) Pannell Jr.; and preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse James Pannell, and Arthur Mack Pannell.

Warren Curtis Slayden
Warren Curtis Slayden, 78, of Oxford, died May 25, 2005 at Baptist Hospital of North Mississippi in Oxford. He was the widower of Marie Barber Slayden, a Methodist, a retired lab technician with U.S. Department of Agriculture, a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, a former vestryman and Sunday school teacher at Christ Episcopal Church in Holly Springs, and former scout master in Holly Springs.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on May 28 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Rev. John Kramer officiated.

He leaves a son, Warren Wynne Slayden of Madison; a daughter, Lois Slayden Jones of Memphis, Tenn.; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lane Marie Slayden.

Pallbearers were Jerry Barber, Billy Barber, Bobby Barber, Gerald Barber, Randy Barber, Ken Barber, Terry Polsgrove, Sammy Aldridge and Jackie Barnett.

Mrs. Willie Taylor
Mrs. Willie (Wedely) Pryor Warren Taylor, 100, of Holly Springs, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, died May 30, 2005 at her home. The widow of Citizen Warren and Jessie Taylor, she was a member of Strawberry MB Church in Holly Springs and a former member of Mt. Comfort CME Church in Laws Hill.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on June 3 at Strawberry MB Church with burial in Mt. Comfort CME Church cemetery. Rev. Willie Jeffries officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two sons, Sidney Warren, Stanley Warren, both of Holly Springs; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Herbert (Hubbard) Warren.

Louis Bob Bruce
Louis Bob (L.B.) Bruce, 78, of Holly Springs, died May 28, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. He was the widower of Vivian Jackson Bruce, a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Holly Springs, a former Sunday school superintendent, a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, a retired administrator of Rust College and a businessman.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 4 at Rust College Doxey Auditorium in Holly Springs. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Rev. J. Michael Culbreth officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, Pat Bruce Lowe of Birmingham, Ala., Sheila Bruce Renfroe of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Louis Robert Bruce, Marvin Maurice Bruce, both of Holly Springs; five sisters, Emma Rucker, Vernice Henderson, Rosemary Bruce, all of Milwaukee, Wisc., Pauline Goree of Shannon, Geneva Murphy of Dania, Fla.; three brothers, Percy Bruce of Batesville, Warren Bruce of Oxford, Calvin Bruce of Milwaukee; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood Bruce.

Pallbearers were members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. Honorary pallbearers were his brothers, brothers-in-law, nephews and cousins.

Tinnie Perry Bryson
Tinnie Perry Bryson, 78, of Michigan City, died May 31, 2005 at her home. She was a member of the mother board.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on June 4 at Samuel Chapel MB Church in Ashland, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Minister Joseph Davis Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Jessie James Bryson; eight daughters, Dorothy J. Allen, Martha A. Isom, both of Michigan City, Iester Bryson, Tinny Ann Bryson, both of Memphis, Tenn., Lue Ethel Garmon of Aurora, Ill., Vera L. Jones, Francie L. Townsell, both of Country Club Hills, Ill., Mary Nell Bryson of Dallas, Tx.; three sons, Jimmy D. Bryson of Memphis, Tenn., Jessie J. Bryson Jr., Jerry L. Bryson, both of Michigan City; six sisters, Lue Gennie Taylor, Hazel Everett, both of Chicago, Ill., Bernice Dowdy of Lombard, Ill., Betty Ann Simmons of Bellwood, Ill., Marie Whitmore, Ruby Perry, both of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Elgin Perry of Michigan City, Frank Perry of Maywood, Ill.; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bobby Bryson, Rodney Bryson, Quincy Bryson, Cedric Garmon, Winslow Isom, Adrian Jones, Walter Mason, Ray Patterson. Honorary pallbearers were Jessie Bryson Jr., Jerry Bryson, Jimmy Bryson, Winston Isom, Eglin Perry, Frank Perry.

Linda Grace Hartley

Linda Grace Hartley, 77, of Memphis, Tenn., died Feb. 18, 2006, at Germantown Methodist. She was the widow of E.G. Hartley and a 911 operator with Memphis Police Department.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Bro. Phil Dunn officiated.

She leaves three brothers, Billy J. Short of Thaxton, Jimmy Clay Short of Walnut, Charles Lamar Short of Pontotoc; a sister, Christine Moore of Collierville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn Hartley.

Pallbearers were Billy Short, Jimmy Short, Charles Short, Aubry Wilson, Bobby Hurst and Jim Moore.

Robert Martin

Robert Martin, 77, of Ashland, died Feb. 11, 2006 at his home. He was a member of Yarbrough Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs and a retired factory worker at Moline Co. in St. Charles, Ill.

Services were held at Anderson Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in Yarbrough Chapel cemetery. Rev. David Hoey officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his caregiver and companion, Lillian Sigman of Ashland; a host of children; a sister, Clara Scruggs of Holly Springs; a brother, Earl Martin of Chicago, Ill., a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Marlene K. Olsen

Marlene K. Olsen, 63, of Snow Lake, died Feb. 16, 2006 at her home. The widow of Gerald Olsen Sr., she was formerly of California.

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford handled the arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, June Silva of Bencicia, Ca., two sons, Gerald Olsen Jr., of Austin, Texas, Harry Olsen of Kyle, Texas; a sister, Arlene Wieser of Snow Lake; a brother, David Niles of Wisconsin and her long time companion, Howard Tarzian of Snow Lake.

She was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Olsen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to A & E Hospice, 6810 Crumpler Blvd, Ste 101, Olive Branch, MS 38654

Dorothy Powers Rather

Dorothy (Dottee) Powers Rather, 84, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 17, 2006 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. She was the widow of John Edward Rather Sr. She was a Sunday school teacher, a choir singer. She belonged to ECW and the Altar Guild. She was past president of the Holly Springs Garden Club and the Thursday Club.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 20 at Christ Episcopal Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Rev. Bruce D. McMillan officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Marie Rather McClatchy, Carey Rather Crain, both of Holly Springs; a son, Dr. Edward Rather Jr. of Olive Branch; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Tim Liddy, Phil Boatwright, Mark Miller, Charles Crain, Billy Cupp Jr., Ben Seale, Jimmy Warren, Ki Jones, Curtis Greer, Tony Galler and Steve Elgin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Rose Mary Raimey Rounds

Rose Mary Raimey Rounds, 46, of Slayden, died Feb. 10, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a retired factory worker.

Services were held at 12 noon on Feb. 15 at Hudsonville CME Church in Hudsonville, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Bobby G. Wilson officated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Veranda Rounds of Holly Springs, Armittie Rounds of Slayden; two sons, Ross DelMerco Rounds of Slayden, Charles Rounds of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Mollie Raimey of Slayden; three brothers, Elester Raimey, Esker Lee Raimey, both of Painesville, Ohio, James Lee Raimey of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister Veolia Mae Rainey.

Pallbearers were Elester Raimey, James Raimey, Henry Cox, Esker Raimey, Michael Raimey, Earnest Dortch. Honorary pallbearers were John Dowdy, Marshall Raimey, Bruce Anderson, and Hubert Raimey.

Lola Clydell Traylor

Lola Clydell Traylor, 86, formerly of Oxford, died Feb. 18, 2006. She was the widow of Claude B. Traylor. She was a member of Anchor Baptist Church in Oxford and a retired school bus driver for Shelby County Schools.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21 at Paris Baptist Church. Burial was in Paris cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves six children, Doyle Traylor of Oxford, Billy Traylor of Booneville, Earl Traylor of Springville, Tenn., Sue Sims of Olive Branch, Lola Speer of Olive Branch and Betsy Pannell of Byhalia; her sister, Iona White of Jackson, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; her honorary children, Bill and Betty Ballard of Byhalia; two honorary grandchildren and two honorary great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to a church or charity of the donor’s choice.

Mildred Wilson Walker

Mildred Wilson Walker, 84, of Memphis, Tenn., died Feb. 10, 2006.

Graveside services were held at 12 noon on Feb. 14 at McKay cemetery in Hickory Flat. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves Wyoma Boyd, William Wilson, Junie M. Wilson and the Evans family.
