Mattie Davis Withers

Mattie Davis Withers, 76, of Memphis, Tenn., died Feb. 9, 2006 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Memphis and a retired domestic worker in private homes.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 17 at Yarbrough Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs with burial in the church cemetery. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Jacquie Coleman of Pikesville, Md., Gwen Dandridge of Memphis; two brothers, John Raiford of Pacific Palisades, Ca., Knowledge Davis of Memphis; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Anthony Crawford, Eugene Stewart, David Crawford, friends and neighbors.

Frank McRay Cox
Frank McRay Cox, 84, of Mobile, Ala., formerly of Waterford, died June 3, 2005 at his home. He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law and worked for Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad (later known as Illinois Central Gulf). After retirement, he returned to law at the firm of Sims, Helmsing and Leach, for a second career of 15 years. He was an active member of Springhill Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder.

A memorial service was held June 6 at 10 a.m. at Springhill Presbyterian Church.

He leaves his wife, Edith Covington Cox; a daughter Julia Cox Root of Pasadena, Ca.; a brother, Joe Cox of Waterford; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Cox of Grenada.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Springhill Presbyterian Church or the Mobile Infirmary Hospice.

Mattie Lee Yancy Gibson
Mattie Lee Yancy Gibson, 72, of Ashland, died May 21, 2005 at her home. She was a member of Palestine MB Church in Ashland and an usher.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 28 at St. Luke Church of God in Christ in Ashland. Burial was in Good Hope cemetery. Elder Bernell Hoyle officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, DeWitt Gibson; a daughter, Daisy Lee Gibson Tipler of Ashland; and two grandsons.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Briggs; and a brother, James Yancy.

Pallbearers were Maurice Yancy, Ray Yancy, Ricky Yancy, Jimmie Lewis Yancy, Joe Willie Yancy, Otis McKenzie, James Yancy, Charles Edward Yancy.

James Edward Goad
James Edward Goad, 65, of Byhalia, died June 2, 2005 at his home. He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran of Vietnam and Korea.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 4 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery. Bro. Leon Burton officiated.

He leaves his wife, Sheila Murkin Goad; a son, Kenneth Goad of Jonesboro, Ark.; three daughters, Teresa Goad of Olive Branch, Jean Goad of Warsaw, Stacy Perryman of Barton; a brother, Dempsey Goad of Memphis; a sister, Bertha Huddleston of Byhalia; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Rose Marie Greene
Rose Marie Greene, 56, of New Albany, died May 29, 2005 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was an employee of Sullivan Metals in Holly Springs. She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Olney, Ill., and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Services will be held later in Lawrenceville, Ind. Burial will be in Memorial Park in Vincennes, Ind. United Funeral Service will be in charge of local arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Ray Greene; her mother, Jean Eastman; a daughter, Michelle Conner of California City, Calif.; two sons, Robert Greene of Carpentersville, Ill., Scott Greene of Southaven; four sisters, Kathy McGuckin of Evergreen, N.J., Mary McLaughlin of Denver, Co., Patty Tillotson of Wheaton, Ill., Sheri Irish of Grand Rapids, Mich.; six brothers, Ed Sullivan of Snow Lake, Michael Sullivan of New Albany, Jimmy Sullivan of New Albany, John Sullivan of Hanover Park, Ill., Daniel Sullivan of Beldon, Brian Eastman of Bolling Brook, Ill.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Walter Edward Jenkins
Walter Edward (Sonny) Jenkins, 60, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died May 29, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was a construction worker.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on June 5 at Calvin Chapel United Methodist Church in Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Oliver P. White officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, Sheila Marie Jenkins of Memphis, Tenn., LaToya Renee Jenkins of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Walter Edward Jenkins Jr., Corey DeMario Jenkins, both of Memphis, Tenn.; a stepson, Robert Suggs of Holly Springs; a brother, Austin (Rayford) Jenkins of Holly Springs; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Walter E. Jenkins Jr., Austin Q. Jenkins, Derrick Jefferson, Corey D. Jenkins, John Jefferson, James Stinson.

John Richmond Ingram
John Richmond Ingram, 85, of Memphis, Tenn., died May 22, 2005 at Graceland Nursing Center in Memphis, Tenn. He was a member of Walker Memorial Christian Church and a retired maintenance worker with the Federal Building in Memphis.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 27 at Liberty Hill MB Church in Byhalia, where he was a former member. Burial was in the Ingram Family cemetery. Rev. Christopher Ingram officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a daughter, Johnella Ingram of Chicago, Ill.; four sisters, Lawrence V. Bridges, Marilyn Delores Scott, both of Memphis, Tenn., Joan Veasey of Denver, Colo. Evelyn Haynes of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Bennie Ingram of Memphis, Tenn.; Frank Cecil Ingram of Seoul, Korea.

Pallbearers were Tony Bridges, Carl DeBerry, Rudy Ingram, Ronald Scott, Toby Ingram. Honorary pallbearers were nephews and cousins.

Maggie Lucas Ingram
Maggie Lucas Ingram, 100, of Holly Springs, died May 24, 2005. She was the widow of Bolivar Ingram.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 28 at Beverly Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Lexine Smith officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three sons, John Ingram, Harris Ingram, both of Holly Springs, Willie Ingram of Battle Creek, Mich.; 30 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five daughters, Lillie Mae Ingram, Cora Griffin, Emma Lee Echols, Lula McKinley, Mattie Ingram; and four sons, J.B. Ingram, Boliver Ingram Jr., Oliver Ingram, Sylvester Ingram.

Pallbearers were Kelvin Reynolds, Everett Suggs, Antonio Ingram, Marvin Ingram, Michael Pugh, Johnny Nunnally. Honorary pallbearers were Harris Ingram, Willie (Ed) Ingram, John Ingram, J.C. Griffin, L.C. Griffin, Jerry Ingram.

Robert Galton McCrary
Robert Galton McCrary, 88, of Myrtle, died May 31, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. He was a Baptist and a bus operator with Memphis Transit Authority for 35 years. He was a member of Scottish Rite, Shriners, York Rite, Eastern Star, and a Mason for 61 years.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 2 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Memphis Memory Gardens. Bro. Jim Buchanan and Dr. Michael Weeks officiated.

He leaves his wife of 59 years, Mary Lois Bumpas McCrary; a son, William Thomas McCrary of Olive Branch; two daughters, Elizabeth Miles of Myrtle, Frances Smith of Batesville; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were William Thomas McCrary Jr., Robby Miles, Ricky Miles, Ronny Miles, John Miles, Jimmy Smith, Jimmy Westmoreland, Jim Cummings, David Bumpas III, Kenny Malchow.

Alice Sue Edwards

NATCHEZ -- Funeral arrangements for Alice Sue Edwards, 70, of Natchez, who died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at her residence are incomplete at Laird Funeral Home.

Jessie Thomas

Sept. 18, 1932 -- July 8, 2002

WASHINGTON -- Services for Jessie "Tex" Thomas, 69, of Natchez, who died Monday, July 8, 2002 at Trace Haven Nursing Home will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Colenburg officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church and from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Thomas was born icon Sept. 18, 1939, at Lake St. John, La., the son of George Thomas and Amelia Nelson.

He was a retired licensed plumber.

Survivors include two daughters, Terri Thomas Angelethy and Linda Robinson, both of Natchez; three brothers, Bernard Shepard of Ferriday, La., Lee Lewis of Longview, Texas, and Jake Lewis of Nashville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of other family and friends.

Pallbearers will be LaTrelvis Thomas, Torre Robinson, Cleveland Smith, Elmore Robinson, Anthony Chasely and Lucius Washington.

Howard Richardson
Howard Richardson, 45, of Coldwater, died May 28, 2005 at home. He was the widower of Barbara Hamilton Richardson and a construction worker.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on June 4 at Rodgers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill cemetery in Sardis.

He leaves a daughter, Shakisa Arta Richardson of Coldwater; and two sons, Derrick Dewayne Richardson, Christopher Darness Richardson, both of Coldwater; and four sisters, Mayline Nelson of Holly Springs, Clara Lewis of Chicago, Ill., Bettie Threatt of Memphis, Tenn., Earline Richardson of Chicago, Ill.

Courtney Simmons
Courtney Simmons, 22, of Bloomington, Ill., died May 28, 2005 at The Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He was employed with Afni Financial in Bloomington.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on June 4 at St. Paul MB Church in Peoria, Ill. Burial was in Park View cemetery in Peoria. Rev. TaLondis Wisker officiated. Serenity Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his mother, Kathy Simmons of Bloomington; his father, Carl Henderson Simmons of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Christopher H. Simmons, his twin Courtland Simmons of Bloomington; two sisters, Tionie Mone Simmons, Eliana Mari Simmons of Los Angeles; his grandparents, Daniel and Lillie Ferguson of Peoria, and Lillie Powell of Peoria.
