Marvel Veshun Mims, newborn, died Sept. 16, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Graveside services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 22 at Mt. Newell Memorial Gardens in Red Banks. Rev. Thurman Norman officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his parents, Cameshia Miller and Orlando Mims Sr. of Victoria; two brothers, Orlando and Eligah Mims; grandparents, Shirley Campbell of Victoria, Karen Swalis of Memphis, Tenn., Jimmy Miller of Olive Branch; his great-grandparents, Helen Cole Wilson and Orange Tunstall Jr. of Victoria and Marrion Wilson of Lewisburg.

Ruth W. Murrell

Ruth W. Murrell, 85, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 19, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of James Robert Murrell and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 21 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery.

She leaves her daughter, Jamie Lemons of Potts Camp; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons, Percy Edward Anderson and Raymond David Anderson.

Jennifer Nichols

Jennifer Nichols, 23, of Byhalia, died Sept. 18, 2006 at her home. She was a Baptist.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 22 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Nichols Family cemetery in Potts Camp.

She leaves her parents, Randy and Patricia Nichols of Cayce; three brothers, Derek Nichols of Holly Springs, Dustin Langston of Mt. Pleasant, Jamie Langston of Woodville and her grandparents, Leroy R. and Lillian Nichols of Potts Camp, Sandra Yancey of Cayce.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Phyllis M. Nichols.

Margaret Irene Prochilo

Margaret (Chookie) Irene Prochilo, 52, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 19, 2006 at her home. She was a paramedic and a fireman.

Memorial services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 24 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.

She leaves three sons, Christopher Downey of Oxford, Joel Prochilo of Johnson City, Tenn., Benjamin Lackie of Conway, Ark.; a daughter, Jennifer Lackie of Conway; a stepdaughter, Brooklyn Burnett of Forth Smith, Ark.; her father, Vincent Prochilo of Oxford; a brother, David Prochilo of Merrick, Long Island, N.Y.; a sister, Diana Jordan of Vernon, Az.; a grandson and her fiance’, Kenneth Palmer of New Jersey.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Billie Fay Prochilo.

Fannie Mae Walls

Fannie Mae Walls, 93, of Holly Springs, died September 19, 2006 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab in Byhalia. She was a former member of Original Church of God in Booker Ridge, Tenn.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 23 at Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her grandson, James Howard Wallace of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; a special nephew and caregiver, James Brooks Jr. of Holly Springs; two sisters, Willie Cochran of Memphis, Tenn., Ammar Walls of Chicago, Ill.; a great-granddaughter and a daughter-in-law, Grace Kelly of Holly Springs.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert James Walls; and a grandson, Timothy Wallace.

Pallbearers were Ventez Brooks, Christopher Brooks, Kenneth Walls, Gerard Cannon, Roderick Cannon and Walter Person. Honorary pallbearers were John W. Walls, Willie Brooks, James Brooks Jr., Donald Brooks, James Miles, Roosevelt Walls, Frank Walls III, Ronald Walls, Jeff Stone and Lewis Stone.

Ezelle Royal Brittenum

Ezelle Royal Brittenum, 83, of Memphis, Tenn., died Sept. 30, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of Tom Brittenum. She was a member of Moore’s Memorial COGIC in Memphis and a retired seamstress with Dillard’s department store in Memphis.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 7 at Leake’s Temple COGIC in Memphis. Burial was in New Park cemetery in Memphis. Elder Angelo Beard officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Marion B. Cleaves, Martha Davis, both of Memphis, Tenn.; six sons, Edwin Brittenum, James Brittenum, Robert Brittenum, Charles Brittenum, all of Memphis, Tenn., Franklin Brittenum of San Francisco, Calif., Rayfield Brittenum of Atlanta, Ga.; several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Brittenum, and a sister.

Pallbearers were Stanphany Boykins, Kenny Smith, Brandon Hunt, Avril Brittenum, Milton Bonds Sr. and Greg Ward. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Brittenum, Franklin Brittenum, Edwin Brittenum, James Brittenum, Charles Brittenum and Rayfield Brittenum.

Carl Ray Church

Carl Ray Church, 68, of Memphis, Tenn., died Oct. 6, 2006 at Memphis Health and Rehab. He was a Messianic Jew and a mechanic.

Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 at Byhalia cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Nelda Neal Church of Collierville, Tenn.; a son, John Church of Rockville, S.C.; a daughter, Vicki Lott of Rockville, S.C.; four stepchildren; three brothers, F.C. Church of Southaven, R.V. Church of Memphis, Merle Church of Memphis; three sisters, Linda Hamlin, Delma Fay Frye, both of Booneville, Shirley Lovell of Jackson; a grandchild, a great-grandchild and seven step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Church; and a sister, Virdie Michaels.

Peggy Sue Clark

Peggy Sue Clark, 55, of Oxford, died Sept. 28, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North MS in Oxford. She was a clerical employee with Bank of Holly Springs.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 30 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Pisgah cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Cliff Smiley officiated.

She leaves her husband, John Clark; a son, Christopher Renick of Batesville; three daughters, Samantha Potts of Hickory Flat, Wendy Medling of Oxford, Tammy Calhoun of Freemont, Ohio; her father, John Garner; a brother, Mike Garner of Hickory Flat; a sister, Kathleen Gullick of Clarksville; and 10 grandchildren.

Alberta Tipler Foster Esq.

Evangelist Alberta Tipler Foster Esq., 58, of New Brunswick, N.J., formerly of Benton County, died Oct. 1, 2006 at her residence. She joined Harris Chapel Baptist Church at an early age and after moving joined Victory Christian Center Church in Brunswick. In 1964 she began publishing a newspaper called The Benton County Freedom Train.

Services were held at 12 noon on Oct. 10 at Greenwood MB Church in Lamar. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Ronnie Franklin, pastor, and Rev. Houston Evans officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Frager Foster, her son, Shomari Foster of New Brunswick; two daughters, Rukiya Foster of Knoxville, Tenn., Sandi Gilliard of Philadelphia, Pa.; her parents, Albert and Nelma Tipler; five sisters, Rosie Hunt, Carolyn Porter, Michelle Matthews, all of Holly Springs, Venessa Tucker of Southaven, Althea Coleman of Blue Mountain; seven brothers, James Tipler of Oakland, Calif., William Tipler of Memphis, Tenn., Garry Tipler, Cortez Tipler, both of Chicago, Ill., Gaither Tipler, Dexter Tipler, both of Holly Springs, Alvin Tipler of Pirmasens, Germany and three grandchildren.

Lena Faye Holloway

Lena Faye McCammon Holloway, 55, of Byhalia, died Oct. 5, 2006 at Baptist DeSoto in Southaven. She was a member of Memphis and Horn Lake Scleroderma support groups and the Byhalia Christian Writers Association.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 8 at Byhalia United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery. Pastor Victoria White officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Jerry Holloway; a daughter, Dena Reah Moss of Georgia; her parents, R.J. and Ruby McCammon of Olive Branch; a sister, Tina Renee McCammon of Olive Branch; and four grandchildren.

Rev. Purcell Hurne

Rev. Purcell (Hearn) Hurne, 74, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 30, 2006 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab. He was a member of St. Clair in Glendora and a farm worker with Ralph Curls Farms.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 7 at Christ Temple Church of God In Christ. Burial was in Yarbrough Chapel CME Church cemetery. Superintendent Albert Pass officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Annie Mae Hurne; a daughter, Mattie Coleman of Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Martha B. Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Will Hearn of Memphis, Tenn., Roy Hearn of Holly Springs; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Roderick Smith, Leroy Hearn, Mondo Hearn, Lathaniel Henderson, Mansfield Hearn, Aaron Smith and Roy Lee Hearn.

Roy Coleman Taylor

Roy Coleman Taylor, 70, of Lamar, died Oct. 3, 2006. He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church, a carpenter with Taylor Siding Co., and an Army veteran of Korea.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Pine Grove cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Mickey Hoyle and Bro. Don Wilson officiated.

He leaves his wife, Elizabeth Ann Taylor; four sons, Mike Taylor of Lamar, Stevie Taylor of Faulkner, Keith Taylor of Byhalia, Greg Taylor of Lamar; a daughter, Teresa Vanstory of Ripley; three brothers, James Ed Taylor of Lamar, Frank Taylor of Olive Branch, Gilbert Taylor of Hickory Flat; three sisters, Betty Sue Todd of Pontotoc, Louise Wilson of Nashville, Jean O’Leary of North Dartmouth; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Newell Taylor, Truman Taylor, Earl Dwain Taylor, Doyle Baum.

Pallbearers were Bob Turner, Larry Shout, Rodney Denham, Sonny Holmes, Wayne Wilson, Tim Wilson, Jeff Shelby, David Clayton, Chris Carpenter, Ricky Taylor and Bryan Thrasher.

Memorials may be made to New Harmony Baptist Church.

Effie Mae Webb

Effie Mae Webb, 70, died Oct. 2, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Franklin Webb. She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of Emory Methodist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Burial was in Memphis Memory Gardens.

She leaves a son, Frank Rodney Webb of Walls; four sisters, Sadie Cates of Hickory Withe, Tenn., Ruth Jones of Bolivar, Tenn., Pat Moss of Somerville, Tenn., Jane Green of Hornsby, Tenn.; two brothers, Charles Green of Coldwater, Earnest Green of Olive Branch; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Lela Mae Wilkins

Lela Mae (Sally) Wilkins, 77, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died Sept. 24, 2006.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 30 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in Memorial Park South Woods.

She leaves four daughters, Joyce Fair, Carolyn Wilkins, Sharon Smith, Denise Smith; two sons, Matthew Wilkins, Lynell Wilkins; a sister, Bernice Jones; a brother, Lee Ester Crumb; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
