Raymond Lumpkin, 58, of Memphis, Tenn., died July 1, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held at 12 noon on July 7 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Zion Taska cemetery in Cayce.

He leaves three daughters, Glenda Williams-Boston, Maria Steward, Tamara Lumpkin, all of Memphis; a son, Allen Brown of Ypsilant, Mich.; his twin brother, Raymon Lumpkin of Memphis; and 11 grandchildren.

Claude Lee Smith
Claude Lee Smith, 85, of Potts Camp, died July 6, 2005 at his home. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Hickory Flat, a cabinetmaker, a construction worker, and an Air Force veteran of World War II.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 7 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Stone cemetery in Potts Camp. Bro. Jimmy Wilbanks officiated.

He leaves his wife, Hazel Johnson Smith; a daughter, Louise Harrison of Senatobia; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Dr. William Louis White Sr.
Dr. William Louis White Sr., died July 6, 2005.

Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on July 9 at St. Andrew’s Cathedral Episcopal Church in Jackson.

He leaves his wife, Dessie B. White; his children, Patrise W. Bennett, William Louis White Jr.; brothers and sisters, Bruce V. White Sr., Clark White, Bernard White, Benita Henry, Oliver Phalen White and Agnes Henderson; and three grandchildren.

Ronnie Dale Wilson
Ronnie Dale Wilson, 29, of Ashland, died July 10, 2005 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. A member of the Church of Christ, he was employed with Mulay Plastics.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 12 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Ashland Church of Christ cemetery. Pastor Fannie Kelley officiated.

He leaves his wife, Tasha Wilson; a daughter, Autumn Cheyenne Wilson of Ashland; his father and stepmother Ronnie and Barbara Wilson of Nesbit; his mother and stepfather, Pam and Tommy Skelton of Lamar; three brothers, Michael Neal Hopkins of Burlison, Tenn., Lance Skelton, Richie Skelton, both of Lamar; and a sister, Vickie Downs of Lamar.

Pallbearers were Spanky Skelton, Phillip Downs, Kevin Bennett, Lance Skelton, Martin Bennett, William Dyer, Britttany Skelton, Amber Skelton, Tommy Skelton, Keilan Wilson, Mike Hopkins, Richie Skelton, Shaun Kenyon.

Sherry Annette King Young
Sherry Annette King Young, 39, of Olive Branch, died June 26, 2005 at Methodist Hospital of Germantown, Germantown, Tenn. She was a member of the Missionary Society, usher board, a former member of Pastor’s Aide, secretary of Benevolent Offering, youth director, church announcer and former choir member. She was a factory worker with Landau Uniforms in Olive Branch.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 3 at Smith Grove MB Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Kelley Sam Young; her father, Oplis King of Holly Springs; five sisters, Brenda King, Stacey Brimfield, both of Columbia, S.C., Emma Stephenson, Margie King, Hazel King, all of Holly Springs; six brothers, Kelsey King of Charlotte, N.C., Thessalonia King, Ivy L. King, Lee Mack King, Melvin King, Conerly King, all of Holly Springs.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Naomi Lester King.

Pallbearers were Lamont King, Anthony King, Percy Stephenson, Travis Harris, John Harris, Rickey Harris, Derrick Phillips, Clifford Sims. Honorary pallbearers were Thessalonia King, Ivy King, Lee Mack King, Melvin King, Conerly King, James Young, Lucious Young, Seattle Young, Elbert Young, Robert Young and Kelsey King.

Martha Shelton Davault
Martha Shelton Davault, 84, of Byhalia, died July 8, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of Dowell (Burger) Davault and a Baptist.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 10 at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley. Burial was in Antioch cemetery in Ripley. Rev. Danny Rushing officiated. Mike Jones delivered the eulogy.

She leaves two daughters, Charlotte Davault, Peggy Curtis, both of Byhalia; two sisters, Nora Valachovic of Johnstown, NY, Olgie Herman of Billings, Mt.; two brothers, John E. Shelton of Memphis, Tenn., Duade Shelton of Fort Wayne, Ind.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Ketchum, Mary Hammers; and four brothers, Kyle, Billy Joe, Neal and Loyd Shelton.

Pallbearers were Tony Curtis, Wesley Reed, Elmer Lee Ketchum, Murry Shelton, Michael Walker, Robert Shelton. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Hunter, Fred Ketchum, Mike Jones, Oneil Clark.

Memorials may be made to Asera-Care Hospice, 621D Hwy 7 South, Holly Springs, MS 38635.

Aubrey Brown

Aubrey Brown, 59, of Holly Springs, died May 28, 2006 at Atrium of Memphis HealthCare Center in Memphis, Tenn. He was a construction worker.

Services were held at 12 noon on June 3 at Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, LaShondra Davis, Wonda Foster, both of Holly Springs; four sisters, Bobbie Armstrong, Dora Gulledge, both of Memphis, Shirley Howell, Lizzie Bowens, both of Holly Springs; five brothers, Alexander Brown, Grady Brown, both of Holly Springs, Clayton Campbell, Richard Campbell, McArthur Campbell, all of Chicago, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Torrance Brown, Kenard King, Ira Boxley, Roosevelt Morgan, Bryant Brown, Kip King, F.C. Williams Jr. and Derrick Allen. Honorary pallbearers were Grady Brown, Alexander Brown, Kelley Davis, Douglas Howell, Christopher Howell and Elisha Smith.

Larry Darnell Hoyle

Larry Darnell Hoyle, 54, of Peoria, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died Feb. 27, 2006 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was a member of Calvin Chapel United Methodist Church in Holly Springs. He worked in small engine repairs with various employers. In September 1987, he began working for Archer Daniels and Midland as a turbine engineer until September 2004, when he became ill and later disabled.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on March 4 at St. Paul Baptist Church in Peoria. Burial was in Springdale cemetery. T.W. Parks Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Dawn M. Hoyle; seven children, Taurus D. Hoyle, Malcolm B. Hoyle, Shunteticut C. Hoyle, all of Kansas City, Kan., Stevon E. Crowder, Badette V. Crowder, Brianna and Jeffrey Hoyle, all of Peoria; two brothers, twin brother Perry Hoyle of Peoria, James Smith of Collinsville, Ill.; three sisters, Carol Ann Williams, Rebecca Jeffries of Memphis, Tenn., Arbedella (Hillie) Shipp of Holly Springs; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jeffrey Hoyle, Howard Ray Smith, Antonio Brooks, Hildred Anthony Govan, Austin (Bip) Jenkins Jr. and Venice (Bean) Nolan. Honorary pallbearers were Taurus Darnell Hoyle, Malcolm Bernard Hoyle, Christopher Craine, Steven Crowder, Damavis Dixon, Quentin Ivy, Willie Albert, Gregg Finin and Jeff Mosher.

James Howell

James Howell, 98, of Holly Springs, died May 26, 2006 at Trinity Mission Nursing Home.

Services were held at 12 noon on June 2 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel.

He leaves six children, George Howell of Saginaw, Mich., Minnie Warren, Sweetie Brown, Nonnie Mae Sims, James E. Faulkner, all of Holly Springs, Clara Lee Hollowell of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Rev. Calvin Howell of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 27 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.

Glender LeRuth Jones Payne

Glender LeRuth Jones Payne, 72, of Holly Springs, died May 26, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of Willie Payne. She was a church mother and disabled.

Services were held at 12 noon on June 2 at Christ the Healer Ministry in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Pastor Henry Gillespie officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves five daughters, Carolyn Turnage, Louri Payne, both of Holly Springs, Patricia Rucker of Oxford, Jannie Payne of Hickory Flat, Linder Payne of Memphis, Tenn.; five sons, Harvey Payne, Glenn Payne, Willie Ray Payne, Stanley Payne, all of Holly Springs, Harold Payne of Denver, Colo.; four sisters, Murrene Welch of East St. Louis, Ill., China Jones, Mildred Helm of Centerville, Ill., Esmal Buchanan of Howardsville, Mo.; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Raymond Turnage III, Robert Rucker, Harvey L. Payne Jr., Eldreco Payne, Kenny Martin and Patrick Rucker. Honorary pallbearers were Willie R. Payne, Glenn A. Payne, Harold A. Payne, Harvey L. Payne, Stanley Payne and Jarvis N. Scott.

Maurine Mason Payne

Maurine Mason Payne, 74, of LaGrange, Tenn., died May 28, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held at 12 noon on June 4 at Sims Chapel MB Church, Michigan City, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Adam Gholson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves five daughters, Dorothy Payne of LaGrange, Laverne Bryson of Michigan City, Cheryl Peeler, Joyce Smith, Brenda Golden, all of Collierville, Tenn.; two sons, Willie Mason of Grand Junction, Tenn., Myron Payne of LaGrange; a sister, Mary Fields of LaGrange; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Fred Dorse, Earnest White, Elliott Mills, John Gatewood, Sonnie Gatewood and Charles Dorse. Honorary pallbearers were Terrance Reed, John Peeler, Tommy Mason, Robert Golden, Jessie Bryson Jr. and James Gorman.

Bobby Earl Black

Bobby Earl Black, 70, of Blytheville, Ark., formerly of Holly Springs, died at his home on Sept. 10, 2006. He attended school in Holly Springs.

Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery on Sept. 15.

He leaves three children, Gregory Black of Washington, Robert Black of Florida and Victoria Andrews of Tennessee; a brother, Kenneth Black of Alabama; four sisters, Frances Trinder of Georgia, Brenda Johnson of Florida, Joy Banville of Florida, Margaret Black of Florida; and six grandchildren.

James Wick Farris

James Wick Farris, 83, of Red Banks, died Sept. 20, 2006 at his home. He was the widower of Eleree Harpole Farris; owner of Farris Dental Laboratory; a 32nd degree Mason; a member of Scottish Rites and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 22 at Byhalia cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two sons, Larry Farris of Nashville, Tenn., James C. Farris of Red Banks; and two grandchildren.

Carrie Ann Gulledge Gatewood

Carrie Ann Gulledge Gatewood, 84, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 16, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Curley Gatewood.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 22 at Hudsonville CME Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Isom Chapel CME Church cemetery. Rev. Bobby Wilson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Joyce Trask of Holly Springs; a son, LaFayette Gatewood of Holly Springs; three sisters, Louise Reynolds of Youngstown, Ohio, Shirley Jamison of Chicago, Ill., Gracie Mae Hughes of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Grady Gulledge of Detroit, Mich.; and a grandson.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Vernon Goodman

Vernon Goodman, 45, of Red Banks, died Sept. 17, 2006 in Mt. Pleasant. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of Christ, a factory worker at the Carrier Corp. in Collierville, Tenn.

Services were held at 12 noon on Sept. 20 at Newell Chapel CME Church in Victoria. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Spencer Mathis officiated. J.F. Brittenum Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Michelle Moore Goodman; a daughter, Arkeisha D. Goodman of Red Banks; his father, Charles Roy Dorsey of Nashville, Tenn.; four sisters, Neeley Barkeey of Ripley, Margaree Norman of Ripley, Katie Ross of Atlanta, Ga., Dorrect Norman of Ellisville; and five brothers, Lee V. Norman of Ripley, Robert Norman, Jerry Norman, J.P. Norman, all of Atlanta, Ga., Eddie Norman of Tupelo.

Pallbearers were John Seldon, Odell Snow, Willie Hughes, Jerome Henderson, Darryle Smith and Willie Conway. Honorary pallbearers were Nokomis Goodman, Hubert Goodman, James Moore, Leroy Hall, O.C. Moore and Edgar Moore Jr.

Beulah Mae Lewis

Beaulah Mae Lewis, 81, of Holly Springs, died Sept. 19, 2006 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab. She was a former member of Pilgrim Rest MB Church in Abbeville.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Sept. 23 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Roy Lee Jeffries officiated.

She leaves her niece and caregiver, Bettie Hill of Holly Springs.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Velma Lester, Elizabeth Holloway, Doris Fitts, Ida Boyd, Elmo Lewis and L.D. Lewis.

Pallbearers were Kelvin Selmon, Lemarcus Buffington and Christopher Buffington.
