Brenda White Anderson, 49, of Memphis, Tenn., died Aug. 22, 2005 at her home. She was a pawn broker with Best Pawns in Memphis.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 26 at Bethlehem MB Church in Memphis, where she was a member. Burial was in Greenwood MB Church cemetery in Lamar. Rev. O.C. Collins Jr. officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Clinton Anderson; two daughters, Ericka Nicole Anderson, Elexis Alexandria Anderson, both of Memphis; a son, Eric Desmond Anderson of Memphis; a stepson, Everest Booker of Memphis; her mother, Ella Mae Washington White of Benton County; four sisters, Jacqueline Shine, Margaree White, both of Lamar, Lejoyi Pollard of Memphis, Collin Wesson of Jonesboro, Ga.; a brother, Otis White Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; and a grandson.

She was preceded in death by her father; Otis White and two sisters, Sandra White, Lena Trice.

Pallbearers were Charles White, Benjamin Pollard, Michael Lewis, Corey White, Marlon Pollard, Morris Lewis and Joshua Cole.

James Earl Fisher
James Earl Fisher, 57, of Memphis, Tenn., died Aug. 23, 2005 at his home. He was a former member of Smith Chapel CME Church, East St. Peter, and current member of New Salem M.B. Church.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 at T.O.M.B. Association Building in Oxford. Burial was in East St. Peter cemetery in Abbeville. Rev. William Woods officiated. Serenity Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves three sisters, Mary Louise Martin of Oxford, Jessie Williams, Linda Williams, both of Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers, Guy Fisher of Fairfield, Calif., Kenneth Fisher of New Orleans, La., Robert Williams of Memphis; and his stepfather, Lee Williams of Oxford.

Pallbearers were Victor Martin, David Fisher, Fredrick Phillips, Jeffery Martin, Al Frierson and Curtis Robinson.

Mary Lee Scott Hale
Mary Lee Scott Hale, 74, of Cayce, died Aug. 21, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of Riley (Shug) Hale. She was a member of the church choir, a church usher, a missionary, Sunday school teacher and superintendent.

Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 27 at Mt. Pisgah CME Church in Cayce, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Hubie L. Nelson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves five daughters, Bernice Hale, Mary Odum, Clara Watkins, Brenda Carter, Lee Ann Hale, all of Byhalia; three sons, Roy Hale, Al Hale, James Hale, all of Byhalia; two sisters, Creasie Benford of Byhalia; Maxine Fant of Holly Springs; a brother, Mose Scott of Byhalia; 24 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Dan Scott, Milton Benford, Kenneth Scott, Louis Scott, James Hale and Sandy Hale Jr.

Charlie Mae Joseph Horton
Charlie Mae Joseph Horton, 59, of Oxford, died Aug. 24, 2005 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was employed with Whirlpool for 32 years. She was a member of the Harrisonville MB Church in Oxford.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 29 at T.O.M.B. Association Building in Oxford. Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery in Water Valley. Serenity Funeral Home in Oxford was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves six children, Ed Horton Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., JoAnn H. Smith, Ophelia H. Samuel, both of Madison, Tenn., Shelia H. Davis of Oxford, Trusan H. Eggerson of Fort Sill, Okla., Kimberly Horton of Fort Huachuca, Az; seven brothers, Cleveland Joseph, Freddie Holmes, Ike Holmes, Henry Holmes, all of Oxford, N.L. Joseph of Memphis, Tenn., Elizah D. Holmes of Helena, Ark. Tony Jackson of Milwaukee, Wisc.; eight sisters, Delores Davis of Phoenix, Ariz., Saddie Brown of Milwaukee, Wisc., Ophelia Buford, Linda Pulley, Irene Judson, all of Water Valley, Martha Morgan, Velma Holmes, Margie Jones of Oxford; her stepmother, Lucille Joseph of Water Valley; and 15 grandchildren.

Michael Houston
Michael Houston, 52, of Holly Srpings, died Aug. 19, 2005, at his home.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 29 at West Tennessee Veterans cemetery with burial in the cemetery. Bartlett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangments.

He leaves three daughters, Monica Houston Barclay of Victor, N.Y., Melaine Houston Lamont of Covington, Tenn., Belinda Houston Wilson of Newport News, Va.; his mother, Amelia Houston of Holly Springs; two sisters, Cathy Allen of Byhalia, Janice Hayes of Holly Springs; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Houston.

Dorothy Stribling Main
Dorothy Stribling Main, 84, of Tupelo, died Aug. 27, 2005 at the North Mississippi Center. She was the widow of Thomas E. Main Jr. She taught school in Georgia and Mississippi, retiring from the Tupelo Public School in 1981. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a member of the Lorilido Homemakers Club and the Lee County Retired Teachers Association.

Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 30 at First Presbyterian Church. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. at Hill Crest cemetery. Pastor Richard Paddon officiated. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Marnelia Smith of Spartanburg, S.C.; a son, John Main of Tupelo; two brothers, Bill Stribling of Rogers, Ark., Sam Stribling of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; a sister, Sara Ann Griffith of Buchanan, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ted Main; and a brother, Jack Stribling.

Pallbearers were John Bryson, Curtis Cockrell, Buddy Stubbs, Phillp Williams, Aubrey Patterson and John Cother.

Emery Moore
Emery (Uncle Dave) Moore, 68, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 26, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare. He coached one of the most successful little league baseball teams in the Marshall County area, The Moore Farm Little League Sluggers. He was a block layer contractor.

Services will be held at 12 noon on Sept. 3 at Mt. Newell MB Church in Red Banks. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Arthur Fitchpatrick Jr. will officiate. Serenity Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Pearlie Moore; 12 children, Gilson Latin Moore of Memphis, Tenn., Inetta Cook, Debra Houston, Travis Moore, all of Victoria, Gail Martin, Eldredge Moore, Tamara Hale, Remonica Moore, all of Cayce, Tony Moore, Shawanda Moore, Jobina Moore, all of Red Banks, Eric Hope of Byhalia; eight brothers, Curtis, Willie C., Connie B. Moore, all of Red Banks, Edgar Moore, Charlie B. Hall, both of Victoria, Curtis Hall, R.W. Hall, both of Detroit, Mich., James Moore of Memphis; six sisters, Oblydia Perry of Detroit, Annie G. Elmore of Victoria, Irene Moore of Red Banks, Loraine Totten, Barbara Hall of Memphis, Inez Lawrence of Gulf Port; 16 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Emery Lee Moore, and a brother, Troy Moore.

Wilma Blondine Renick Bumpas

Wilma Blondine Renick Bumpas, 92, of Ashland, died April 13, 2006 at Baptist Memorial in New Albany. She was a retired teacher. She was the widow of Oscar Douglas Bumpas.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 17 at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Ashland, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Carlie Wilson of Ashland; and two brothers, J.L. Renick of Memphis, Tenn., Rev. Percy Renick of Memphis, Tenn.

Pallbearers were Cliff Ormon, Matt Ormon, Blake Ormon, Brandon Wilson, Austin Thompson and Joe Clayton.

Alleen Richards Carpenter

Alleen Richards Carpenter, 92, of Chicago, Ill., formerly of Ashland, died April 7, 2006 at Seasons Hospice & Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago. She was the widow of Walter Carpenter and a member of Samuel Chapel MB Church in Ashland.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on April 14 at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Samuel Chapel MB Church cemetery. Rev. Woody Jordan officiated.

She leaves a brother, Bishop Allen T. Richards of Ashland; two sisters, Mona Harris of Memphis, Tenn., Veolia Parker of Chicago, Ill.; a dear niece who cared for her during her illness, Lavonne Harris of Chicago; and a grandson, Gene Ross of Minneapolis, Minn.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Carpenter; five brothers and two sisters, Baby Cornelius, Frank, Andrew (Jack), James, Booker T., Grace Richards and Clinthia Richards.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

James Franklin Culbert

James Franklin Culbert, 38, of Mt. Pleasant, died April 16, 2006 at his home. He was a Baptist and disabled.

Services were held at 4 p.m. on April 18 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Carey Chapel cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

He leaves a daughter, Samantha Culbert of Collierville; his father, Charles Willis of Mt. Pleasant; his grandmother, Nellie Wilson of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Angie Hubbard of Mt. Pleasant; two nephews, Bradley Hubbard, Brett Hubbard.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joann Wilson Willis.

Karen Jeanette Davis

Karen Jeanette (Jan) Davis, 54, of Red Banks, died April 11, 2006 at Germantown Methodist Hospital. She was a Baptist and an insurance agent with Crain and Moore Insurance.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 14 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Dr. Curtis Ferrell officiated.

She leaves her husband, Steven M. Davis; her mother, Nettie Skelton of Holly Springs; two sisters, Pamela E. Hurdle of Holly Springs, Becky Harris of Memphis, Tenn.; and two nephews, David and Daniel Harris of Memphis, Tenn.

Essie Mae Stewart Clark

Essie Mae Stewart Clark, 77, of Holly Springs and the Chulahoma community, died May 18 at her caregiver’s home in West Memphis, Ark. She was a member of the Women’s Home Improvement Society and a retired cashier for Chulahoma Grocery. She was the widow of Jessie Clark.

Services were held at 12 noon on May 27 at Chulahoma MB Church where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves on grandson, R. Ryan Durelle Matthews J.W. of Memphis, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren; and her caregiver Jewel Ledbetter of West Memphis, Ark.

She was preceded in death by a son, Walter Reed Jr.

Janie Lou Culver

Janie Lou Culver, 75, of Waterford, Miss., died May 28 at her home. She was a homemaker and a maintenance worker for Wall Doxey State Park.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on May 31 at the Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Spring Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Waterford.

She leaves her husband, Cleveland Culver of Waterford; two daughters, Linda Ann Dempsey of Louisville, and Corrine Evans of Waterford; four sisters, Alberta Culver of Waterford, Miss., Margaret Gooding of Holly Springs, Miss., Era King of Opdgke, Ill., and Juanita McWhirter of Giler, Tex.; five grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Jimmie Jones

Jimmie Covington Jones, 78, of Memphis, Tenn., native of Banner, died May 25, 2006 at Court Manor Nursing Home in Memphis. She was the widow of H.C. Jones and Ray Miller.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on May 27 at Providence Church in Banner. Bro. Freddie Buchanan officiated. Memphis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a son, Doyle and Linda Jones of Laws Hill; two brothers, Jack Covington, Robert Covington, both of Banner; a sister, Jewel Logan of Bruce; a stepdaughter, Debbie Miller Hilton of Bartlett; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three step-daughters, eight step-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Paul Jones.

David B. Luellen

David B. Luellen, 36, of Memphis, Tenn., died May 20, 2006 at The Med in Memphis, Tenn.

Services were held at 12 noon on May 27 at Hudsonville CME Church. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his mother, Vorice McKinney of Holly Springs; his father, Conley Luellen Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; three children, David K. Rosser, David B. Luellen Jr. and Darious D. Luellen, all of Memphis; eight brothers, Robert Luellen, Jerry Lee McKinney, Kendale Luellen, Marcus Luellen and Darri Luellen, all of Memphis, Andrew McKinney, Tony Curtis McKinney, both of Slayden, Anthony McKinney of St. Louis, Mo.; and three sisters, Georgia Ann Young, Onie M. Luellen, Bianca Luellen, all of Memphis, Tenn.
