Dustin Michael Wood, 20, of Glen, died April 2, 2005 at Booneville. He attended Strickland Church of Christ. He was a 2003 Alcorn Central High School graduate, where he was in the band.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 5 at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Burial was in Center Hill cemetery in Counce, Tenn. Charlie Browning and Minister Brad Dillingham officiated.

He leaves his parents, Michael McKinley (Ken) and Sandra Smith Wood of Glen; a sister, Brittney Wood of Glen; his girlfriend, Cheryl Lander of Hamilton; grandparents, James and Marie Smith of Holly Springs; grandfather Bill Wood of Corinth.

Pallbearers were Brent Childs, Robert Evans, Berry Parker, Jon Parker, Deric Smith, Brian Wooten. Honorary pallbearers were Skylar Gamble, Marine Lance Corporal Richard A. Wilkins of Camp LeJeune, NC; Jet Thomas.

He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Alma Wood; great-grandparents, Eugene and Lucille Colston; Major McKinley and Gertrude Wood; Johnny and Nannie Bell Strickland; John Alfred and Zora Nell Smith.

Jane Sibley Lester Woods
Jane Sibley Lester Woods, 84, of Holly Springs, died March 31, 2005 at Christopher’s Personal Care Center. She was the widow of Roger Lamar Woods, and a secretary/bookkeeper. She was a charter member of the Town and Country Garden Club.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 2 at First United Methodist Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery. Rev. Truman Thompson officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three sons, Christopher Lamar Woods of Memphis, Tenn., Roger Douglas Woods of Forest, Jonathan Lester Woods of Red Banks; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Lizzie B. Vaughn McCary
Lizzie B. Vaughn McCary, 74, of Holly Springs, died April 4, 2005 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Floyd McCary Sr., a member of Order of Eastern Star, and a retired factory worker with Emerson Electric Company of Oxford and a choir member.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 10 at Greenwood MB Church in Lamar, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Ronnie Franklin officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Jerline McCary-Mack, Ernestine Rooks, both of Holly Springs; four sons, Floyd McCary Jr., James Earl McCary, Cornell McCary, Terry Lee McCary, all of Holly Springs; three sisters, Irene Jones, Mary Lee Turnage, both of Holly Springs, Olivia Sellers of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Roy Lee Vaughn, Willie C. Vaughn, both of Holly Springs; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Keffer Daugherty, Torrance Brown, Michael Whaley, Terry Boga, Bob Phillips, and Eugene (Bubba Lou) Washington. Honorary pallbearers were Rico Vaughn, Freddie Faulkner, Booker T. Vaughn III, Robert Jones, Willie Buford, and Joe Turnage Jr.

Ida Mae Spight Burton
Ida Mae Spight Burton, 62, of Holly Springs, died April 3, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was a member of the church choir, a Missionary, a member of the mother’s board, president of the Kitchen Committee, a member of the Golden Stars singing group, a member of Heroines of Jericho Court 38, and a retired nurse’s assistant, CNA with Trinity Mission Health & Rehab.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 9 at Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Henry Burton Jr.; two daughters, Thatan S. (Meechi) Blake of New Albany, Tamara D. Burton of Oxford; a brother, John Spight of Holly Springs; and one grandson.

Pallbearers were James Richmond, Christofer Stewart, Cedric Adams, Johnie Beard, Lonnie Beard, Benjamin Kendrics. Honorary pallbearers were the deacons.

Yvonne Glazier
Yvonne Glazier, 91, of Byhalia, died April 4, 2005 at Tippah County Hospital. She was retired.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 8 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel in Olive Branch.

She leaves five sons, Howard Glazier of Byhalia, Charles Glazier of Red Banks, Robert Glazier of Silverhill, Ala., Cyrus Glazier of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Ronnie Glazier of Largo, Fla.; 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mary V. Barber Poole
Mary V. Barber Poole, 96, of Potts Camp, died April 4, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was the widow of George R. Poole, a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, and a former school teacher in the Potts Camp area.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 7 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery. Rev. Paul Knight officiated.

She leaves two sons, Arthur Poole, Malcolm Poole, both of Potts Camp; a daughter, Pollye Pratt of Potts Camp; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by grandsons Kent Poole, Tony Wells, and a granddaughter, Monica Leah Poole.

Katherine R. Staggs
Katherine R. Staggs, 66, of Hickory Flat, died April 7, 2005 at New Albany. She was a maintenance employee with Irwin B. Schawabe Co.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 9 at Faith Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Flat Rock cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Larry West and Bro. Ben McCraw officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Oliver F. Staggs; a daughter, Sandra Lynch of Atoka, Tenn., a stepdaughter, Loronda Gail Colston of Hickory Flat; three sisters, Louise Denton of Paducah, Ky., Rebele Garrison of Dunnloring, Va., Sherlene Mitchell of Virginia Beach., Va.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Oliver Doyle Staggs.

Pallbearers were Ricky Staggs, Perry Colston, Rodney Crunk, Jody Jennings, Kevin Staggs, and David Bumpus.

Dorothy Jean Lumpkin Tidwell
Dorothy Jean Lumpkin Tidwell, 53, of Holly Springs, died April 3, 2005 in DeSoto County. She was the widow of Willie Louis Tidwell, a retired clerk with King’s Cleaners in Holly Springs.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 9 at Anderson Chapel CME Church, where she was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Denise Anders-Modest officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Catina K.S. Tidwell of Nashville, Tenn.; her mother, Marie Washington Lumpkin of Holly Springs; three sisters, Fannie Lampley of Holly Springs, Barbara Walls-Pierce of Memphis, Tenn., Renee’ Lumpkin of Sydney, Australia; two brothers, Richard Lumpkin Jr., Isiah Lumpkin, both of Holly Springs; and a grandson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Lumpkin, Sr.

Pallbearers were Mario Lumpkin, James Williams, Dura Moss, Leroy Lumpkin, John Lee Williams, John Tidwell. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Lampley, Raymond Lumpkin, Naymond Lumpkin, James Black, Joseph Ford, and Charles Terry.

Claudie Mae Tomlinson
Claudie Mae Tomlinson, 96, of Holly Springs, died April 4, 2005 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was the widow of Andrew F. Tomlinson and a member of Carey Chapel in Mt. Pleasant.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 6 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Carey Chapel cemetery. Bro. O.E. Langner officiated.

She leaves three stepsons, Donald Tomlinson of Adamsville, Tenn., Dan Tomlinson of Morris, Ala., Gerald Tomlinson of Somerville, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Opal Owens of Holly Springs, Bettye Garrett of Mt. Sterling, Ky.; 23 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two stepsons, Andrew Tomlinson Jr. and Travis Tomlinson.

Martha Jane Spears Turner
Martha Jane Spears Turner, 60, of Blue Mountain, died April 9, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of Freddie Tackett. She was disabled and a Pentecostal.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 10 at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley. Burial was in Blue Mountain Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Sis. Connie Scott officiated.

She leaves three daughters, Cindy L. Crum of Blue Mountain, Connie J. Williams of Myrtle, Lora J. Rhea of Holly Springs; three sisters, Frankie Pannell of Blue Mountain, Christine Tramel of Ripley, Shirley Kirkindoll of Dallas, Tx.; a brother, Blackie Spears of Blue Mountain; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Matthew Saulsberry; three sisters, Carolyn Bradford, Olene Smith, Flora Bell Smith; two brothers, Sonny Spears, Calvin Spears.

Pallbearers were Sean Hopkins, Donald Morrison, James Brown, Terry Rhea, Roy Lynn Kelly, David Rhea. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Frazier, Tracy Spears, Darrell Crum, Jeremey Brackett.

Kenneth Eugene Cox
Kenneth Eugene Cox, 65, of Potts Camp, died April 17, 2005 at his home. He worked for Sunbeam in Holly Springs as lead maintenance man. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Air Force Reserve as airman first class. He was also a Mason.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on April 19 at Faith Baptist Church in Hickory Flat, where he was a member. Burial was in McKay cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Larry West, Bro. Jimmy Wilbanks and Bro. Steve Wilson officiated. United Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife of 47 years, Jean Taylor Cox; two daughters, Cindy Roberts, Melody Cook; three sons, Phil Cox, Kenneth D. Cox, Cliff Cox; a brother, Roger Cox; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Beecher Cox.

Pallbearers were Thomas Stanton, Ward Clifton, Ray Clifton, Ernest Cruse, Roy Cook, Dennis Clifton, and James Payne. Honorary pallbearers were Bubba Feathers, Bobby Clayton, Daniel Norris, Kevin Staggs, Davis Bumpas, John Dunning and Bro. Jim Buchanan.

Joe W. Harrell
Joe W. Harrell, 94, of Holly Springs, died April 13, 2005 in Holly Springs. He was the widower of Mary Higdon Harrell, a member of Chewalla Baptist Church and an inspector with MS State Health Department.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on April 14 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery.

He leaves his sister, Esther Tabor of Germantown, Tenn.

Will Henry Kizer
Will Henry Kizer, 84, of Byhalia, died April 11, 2005 at V.A. Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired material handler for Carrier Corp. He was deacon and superintendent at Cathedral of Praise Church of God in Christ.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 21 at Cathedral of Praise Church of God in Christ in Watson, where he was a member. Burial was in McCravy cemetery in Watson. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Seraphine Kizer; six daughters, Faye Kizer of Byhalia, Iris Gwen Kizer Egbodofo, Emma Richmond, Estella Ford, Alfreda Kizer, all of Memphis, Tenn., Jennifer Kizer of Olive Branch; five sons, Robert Curtis Jones, Marvin Kizer, Lloyd Kizer, all of Memphis, Tenn., Stanley Kizer of Byhalia, John Lenwood Kizer of Olive Branch; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
