Willie Lee Batts

Willie Lee (Bubba) Batts, 93, of Lamar, died Jan. 25, 2006 at his home. He was the widower of Rosie Lee Jackson Batts. He was a church deacon, a Sunday school superintendent, a member of the male chorus, a member of Greenwood Lodge #68 Masonic Lodge and a school bus driver with Benton County Schools.

Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 28 at Samuel Chapel MB Church, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Minister Joseph Davis officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves four daughters, Lora Hurey of Chicago, Ill., Dorothy Robinson of Ashland, Jane Batts of Easton, Penn., Daisy Stinson of Holly Springs; a son, Joe R. Batts of Ashland; a brother, Tommy Batts of Sacremento, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Michael Brown, Clay Batts, Gerald Stinson Jr., Tommie Robinson, Maurice Batts, Kevin Dameron, Martin Batts and Glenn Batts. Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Batts, Henry Thomas Jackson, Alfred Kimbrough, Spence Richards Jr., Albert Huery, James Earl Jackson, George Jackson and Alvin Fortenberry.

Lewis Harold Bryson

Lewis Harold Bryson, 75, of Lamar, died Jan. 24, 2006 at his home. He was a church deacon, president of the deacon board, president of the senior choir, superintendent of Sunday school, vice-president of mass choir. He was a retired lead man with Carrier Corporation in Collierville, Tenn.

Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 29 at Kimbrough Chapel MB Church in Lamar, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Mark Bryson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Bessie Mae Crumb Bryson; five daughters, Patricia Everett, Jannie Evans, both of Lamar, Gladys Pritchard, Bessie Denice Bryson, Elizabeth Hart, all of Memphis, Tenn.; seven sons, Milton Bryson, Mark Bryson, Richard Bryson, George Bryson, Sammie Bryson, all of Memphis, Tenn., Agrippa Bryson, James Earl Bryson, both of Lamar; a sister, Elsenia Champion of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Calvin Bryson of Lamar; 37 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ivory Joe Bryson.

Pallbearers were Cedric Byrson, Tyrone Bryson, Marcus Shed, Randon Bryson, LaShawn Bryson, Kevin Bryson, Rico Bryson, Gregory Evans, Lycurtis Bryson and Byron Burnette. Honorary pallbearers were Sammie Bryson, Agrippa Bryson, Richard Bryson, George Bryson, James Bryson and Milton Bryson.

Johnny Lee Hampton Sr.

Johnny Lee Hampton Sr., 75, of Ashland, died Jan. 26, 2006 at the Briarcrest Extended Health Care Center in Ashland.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 1 at Palestine MB Church in Ashland. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Leon Perry officiated. Jones Payton Funeral Directors of Ashland was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Hattie Mae Hampton; seven sons, Johnny, David, Jerry and Michael Hampton, all of Ashland, Darryl Hampton of Lamar, Eddie Hampton of Blue Mountain, Sylvester Hampton of Hickory Flat; three daughters, Sarah Hudson, Brenda Hoyle, both of Ashland, Michele Judge of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Francis Brown of Ashland; 33 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter; Fannie Hampton; eight brothers, seven sisters and a son-in-law.

Ted Roberson

Ted Roberson, 65, of Byhalia, died Jan. 19, 2006.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 28 at Cedar Haven Baptist Church in Byhalia. Rev. Mike Hensley and Rev. Paul Hicks officiated. Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife of 22 years, Carolyn (Sipes) Roberson; two daughters, Diane and Tena; three brothers, Ned Roberson of East Alton, Ill., Fred Roberson of Stockbridge, Ga., Danie Roberson of Myrtle; two sisters, Mary Bishop of Memphis, Tenn., Fay Headrick of Corinth; and five grandchildren.

Ollis Nelson Roberts

Ollis Nelson Roberts, 50, of Red Banks, died Jan. 24 at his home. He was a Baptist.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 28 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Moriah cemetery. Bro. Frank Feathers officiated.

He leaves his brother, Danny Roberts of Oregon; and a sister, Angie Culver of Como.

Pallbearers were James Culver, Gary Culver, Dustin Culver, Bob Culver, Albert Harris and Mark Baker.

William Oliver Shoffner

William Oliver Shoffner, 72, of Victoria, died Jan. 29, 2006 at his home. He was a Baptist and a timber cutter.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 1 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in McKay cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Virgil Scherff officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Mary Shoffner; four sons, Roger Shoffner, of Victoria; Dean Shoffner of Wharton, NJ, Jessie Shoffner of Byhalia, Chris Shoffner of Victoria; four daughters, Tricia Wilson of Red Banks, Lisa Green of Wyatt, Teresa Jane Gadd of Ashland, Melissa Kay Wren of Houston, Tx.; a brother, Robert Shoffner of Hamilton, Ala.; a sister, Lena Campbell of Holly Springs; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Lenora Smith

Lenora (Sweet Gal) Smith, 70, of Byhalia, died Jan. 25, 2006 at Baptist Hospital-East in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of Union Valley Choir.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 28 at Union Valley MB Church in Byhalia. Burial was in Union Valley cemetery. Pastor Joe Richmond officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves five children, Lee Arthur Smith Jr. of Chicago, Ill., Desiree Smith of Byhalia, Cassandra Yvette Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Kevin Daved Smith of Chicago, Ill., Melvin Andre’ Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Marshall Bowden Anthony

Marshall Bowden (M.B.) Anthony, 56, of Ashland, died April 19, 2006 at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was Pentecostal and a roofer.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 23 at Ashland Baptist Church. Burial was in Ashland cemetery. Bro. Roger Wilbanks officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Sissy Wilbanks; two sons, Michael Anthony of Ripley, Brandon Wilbanks of Walnut; a daughter, Penny Anthony of Ripley; a brother, Pete Anthony of Memphis, Tenn.; six sisters, Peggy Burks of Ripley, Carleen Bates of Ashland, Mary Anthony of Ashland, Jessie Frayser of Potts Camp, Hazel Miller of Ashland, Tonie Ann Rayburn of Ripley; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a stepson, Johnny H. Wilbanks; and two sisters, Willie Mae Holmes and Wanda Kay Anthony.

Fumiko Bierwirth

Fumiko Bierwirth, 80, of Byhalia, died April 15, 2006 at Baptist Hospital.

Private family services were held on April 17. Burial was in Corinth National cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, James Otto Bierwirth; eight daughters, Julie Russell of Southaven, Jill Darby, Jessica Morris, both of Olive Branch, Josephine Bierwirth of Southaven, Janet Bierwirth of Byhalia, Jennifer Richey of Las Vegas, Nev., Jane Sebastian of Dickson, Tenn., Jean Stephenson of Fairview, Tenn.; and 14 grandchildren.

Myra Gail Carrico

Myra Gail Carrico, 61, of Byhalia, died April 24, 2006 at Collierville Baptist Hospital. She was a Christian.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 27 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Memphis Memorial Park.

She leaves her son, John Carrico of Southaven; her daughter, Monica W. Kimbrough of Victoria; her brother, William Jere Prather of Morgan Hill, Calif.; her sister, Rita Myers of Russellville, Ark.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Thelma Colston

Thelma Colston, 75, of Holly Springs, died April 21, 2006 at her home. She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 25 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery.

She leaves her husband, George M. Colston; two sons, Billy Colston of Myrtle, Nathan Colston of Red Banks; two brothers, Aubrey Humphrey of Hudsonville, Paul Humphrey of Waterford; two sisters, Gertrude Colston of Holly Springs, Minnie Allen of Lamar; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lucy Mae Dougan

Lucy Mae (Bumpie) Dougan, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, died April 21, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. She was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 24 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Frank Feathers officiated. Burial was in Early Grove cemetery in Slayden.

She leaves three sons, Thomas D. Skelton of Mt. Pleasant, Bascom Eugene Skelton of Mt. Pleasant, Barry Wayne Yeager of Lincoln City, Ore.; three daughters, Shirley Marie Skelton, Peggy Ruth Hurley, both of Collierville, Patricia Dianne Brown of Holly Springs; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Mills Skelton; a grandchild, Linda Mae Skelton; and two great-grandchildren, Lucy Skelton and Georgia Skelton.

Ackzavea Cortez Faulkner

Ackzavea Cortez Faulkner, 15, of Holly Springs, died April 16, 2006 in Holly Springs. He was a member of Holly Springs High School football team and a ninth grade student at Holly Springs High School.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 22 at McMillan Multi-Purpose Center, Rust College. Rev. Jerry Williams officiated. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his mother, Catina LaSha Faulkner of Holly Springs; his father, Kendrick Hill of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Lavesha Faulkner, Alexis Faulkner, both of Holly Springs; grandmothers, Betty Hill, Annie Faulkner, both of Holly Springs; grandfather, Woodrow Faulkner of Holly Springs.

Pallbearers were Melvin Faulkner, Vonta Faulkner, Keotto Tennial, DeQuan Tennial, Devan Faulkner, Morece Davis and Maurice Poole. Honorary pallbearers were Sammie Bowen, L.V. Tennial, Charles Tennial, Carlos Jones, Marcus Pool and Daniel Burton.

Jarvis Montez Faulkner

Jarvis Montez Faulkner, 21, of Holly Springs, died April 16, 2006 in Holly Springs. He was in his third year at Ole Miss, a member of New Dimension Salt and Light Ministries in Holly Springs and an honor student. He was a 2003 graduate of Holly Springs High School.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 19 at McMillan Multi-Purpose Center, Rust College. Pastor Actavatis Allen officiated. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his mother, Carol Jean Faulkner Whaley of Potts Camp; his father, Woodrow Faulkner of Holly Springs; stepfather, Sammie Whaley of Potts Camp; three sisters, Katrina Taylor of Victoria, Catina Faulkner of Jackson, Janilla Martin of Chulahoma; and four brothers, Woody Faulkner, Woodrow Faulkner III, Donte Faulkner, Tramaine Faulkner, all of Holly Springs.

Pallbearers were William Robinson Sr., Jamario Marion, Jonathan Hoey, Curtis Floyd, Lawrence Muruako, Christopher Williams and Dewane London. Honorary pallbearers were Woody Terrell Faulkner, Thad Lawrence James III, Terrance Faulkner, Perry Faulkner, James A. Wilkins Jr. and DeAngelo DeBerry.

Lucendy Holloway

Lucendy Holloway, 61, of Holly Springs, died April 15, 2006 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. She was disabled.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 22 at Strawberry MB Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Willie. F. Jeffries officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a daughter, Marilyn Holloway of Holly Springs; two sons, Chris Muse, Sanchez Holloway, both of Holly Springs; her mother, Idalia Harris Holloway of Holly Springs; five sisters, Gussie Hughes of Champaign, Ill., Cederia Elliott, Inell Holloway, Elizabeth Jones, all of Holly Springs, Rose Jacobs of Killeen, Tx.; four brothers, Henry Harris, Monroe Holloway Jr., both of Baltimore, Md., Charlie Holloway, Jerry Holloway, both of Holly Springs; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers were Jerry Holloway Jr. Lance Elliott, Marcus Jones, Micheal Jones, Octavious Jones, Rodney Elliott, Melvin Jones and Arnez Hardaway. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Holloway, Monroe Holloway, Sanchez Holloway, Jerry Holloway, Chris Muse and Hank Harris.
