NATCHEZ - Services for Yolanda A. Green, 31, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, are incomplete at Webb Funeral Home.

Olive Henderson

RICHTON - Services for Olive Henderson, 90, of Richton, who died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at her residence, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. David Huffman officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Zion cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Sand Hill Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She and her husband owned and operated The Country Grocery Store near Sand Hill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Henderson.

Survivors include three daughters, Sue Purvis and her husband, Tom, both of Natchez, Arluin Mercer and her husband, Charlie, both of Richton, and Brenda Newman and her husband, Bruce, both of Niceville, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Mark Purvis, Shawn Mercer, Charles Mercer, Chellie Clark, Susan Johnson, Betsy McKee and Amy Newman; 12 great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Bob Freeman of Richton.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Mercer, Charles Mercer, Mark Purvis, Shawn McKee, Brad Clark and Bill Johnson.

Evelyn Davis Colbert

Oct. 11, 1924 - Jan. 10, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Evelyn Davis Colbert, 78, of Natchez, who died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. Alfred Camp officiating.

Burial will be in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with a rosary service at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Colbert was born icon Oct. 11, 1924, in Burkburnette, Texas, the daughter of Alpha Omega and Carrie Irene Downard Davis.

She was a 1941 graduate of Gainesville High School and a 1946 graduate of St. Paul's School of Nursing in Dallas. She served in the Navy Nurse Corps from 1947 to 1949 with duty at Long Beach Naval Hospital in California and Corpus Christi Naval Hospital in Texas.

She married icon Dr. Walter Colbert in Gainesville, Texas, in May 1949. Mrs. Colbert was a longtime member of St. Mary Parish in Natchez, an active member of Natchez Garden Club and an artist.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Walter T. Colbert; two sons, David M. Colbert of Washington, D.C., and Rome, and Walter Kevin Colbert of Natchez; two daughters, Dr. Michele Colbert Burns of New Orleans and Cherie S. Colbert of Houston; three granddaughters, Megan Burns of New Orleans and Brandy Colbert and Madison Colbert, both of Natchez; one grandson, Dylan C. Burns of New Orleans; one great-granddaughter, Mina Evelyn Brinks; one sister, Alice Davis Whiddon of Wichita Falls, Texas; and a friend of the family, Teresa Ligon of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Raymond Brown, Dr. Bruce Kuehnle, Dr. Charles Stern, Dr. Fred Emrick, Dr. Clifford Tillman and Dr. Randy Tillman.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Homochitto Valley Medical Society and their spouses.

The family requests that memorials be made to St. Mary Basilica.

Eunice Nash

NATCHEZ - Funeral arrangements for Eunice Nash of Nashville, Tenn., and formerly of Natchez, who died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Mariner Hospital in Nashville, are incomplete at Laird Funeral Home.

Samuel James Stewart Sr.

Dec. 6, 1934 - Jan. 4, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Samuel James Stewart Sr., 68, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. today at Greater St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. Maurice Irving officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from noon until service time today at the church.

Mr. Stewart was born icon Dec. 6, 1934, in Natchez, the son of Beatrice and Eli Jackson.

He attended NATCHEZ - Adams public schools and worked as a tire builder for Armstrong Tire and Rubber Co. He was a member of United Steelworkers Local 303 and was a member of Greater St. Mark Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Adeline Stewart; four daughters, Gladys Jackson and her husband, Harol, Mary Martin and her husband, Larry, Mattie Thomas and her husband, Windell, and Pamela Dean and her husband, Irving; seven sons, Samuel Stewart Jr. and his wife, Torris, Larry Stewart and his wife, Arlene, Richard Stewart and his wife, Lena Mae, Gary Stewart, Oscar Stewart and his wife, Carmen, Sammy Norman and his wife, Shwana, and Derrick Martin; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Willie Frank Baily and his wife, Clara, both of Moss Point; three sisters, Clarice Stewart of Atlanta, Camille Trice of Chicago, Belinda Thomas and her husband, Mack, both of Natchez, and Tena Anderson and her husband, Johnny, both of Fayette; two aunts, Rosie Lee Gibbs and Katie Scott, both of Chicago; seven brothers-in-law, Willie Frye and his wife, Josephine, James Henry Norman and his wife, Hattie, Richard Norman and his wife, Ora, and Clarence Norman, all of Natchez, Chris Minor of Crosby and Albert Norman and his wife, Quince, both of Chicago; one sister-in-law, Della Thomas and her husband, Luther; friend, Marian Mitchell of Sanford, Fla.; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Walter Johnson Jr., Wilson Ford Jr., Larry Strauder, Karl Ellis, Lee Wong Hughes and Eric Frye.

Honorary pallbearers will be Samuel Stewart Jr., Larry Stewart, Richard Stewart, Gary Stewart, Oscar Stewart, Sammy Norman, Derrick Martin, Irving Dean and Dwight Douglas.

Alma Russ

Feb. 13, 1913 - Jan. 7, 2003

CENTREVILLE - Services for Alma Russ, 89, of Centreville, who died Tues., Jan. 7, 2003, in Gretna, La., will be at noon Saturday at Bleakhouse Baptist Church with the Rev. John Henry Scott Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Newman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Mrs. Russ was born icon Feb. 13, 1913, in Woodville, the daughter of Robert Lee and Mary Olivia Dunbar Williams.

She was a native of Woodville, a homemaker and a member of Bleakhouse Baptist Church, its Deaconess Board and Benevolent Lodge No. 25.

Mrs. Russ was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie Russ Sr.; and one son, Leroy Russ.

Survivors include three daughters, Annie Toliver of Gretna, La., Rosia Toussaint of LaPlace, La., and Lillian Robertson of Waco, Texas; nine sons, Willie Russ Jr. of Plaquemine, La., Arthur M. Russ, Edward Russ, Johnny Russ and Oliver Russ, all of Centreville; Sinclair Russ of Woodville, Charles Russ of New Orleans, Jerry Russ of Trinity, Texas and Robert Russ of Gretna, La.; two sisters, Hattie Williams Jones and Lucy Bell Williams Brown, both of Woodville; 44 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Sylvester Williams of New Orleans.

Pallbearers will be Elden Russ, Ervin Mikell, Edward Russ Jr., Vincent Wheeler, Terry Russ and Oliver Packnett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gregory Russ, Vernice Wheeler Jr., Keith Russ, Durrel Dabney, Tony Russ, Curtis Mikell and Lakendrick Russ.

Leonardo Dwight Lang Jr.

Nov. 4, 1920 - Jan. 4, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Leonardo Dwight "L.D." Lang Jr., 82, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Zawacki officiating.

Burial will follow in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a rosary service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Mr. Lang was born icon Nov. 4, 1920, in Natchez, the son of Leonardo and Francine Lang.

He was a graduate of St. Francis High School and retired in 1990 as a self-employed mason. He was a member of the Catholic faith and a past grand knight of the Knights for Peter Claver.

He was also a member of the American Legion and the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman and a World War II veteran and served on the Natchez Planning Commission.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Berdia Miller Lang; two sons, L.D. Lang III of New Orleans and Carlman Joseph Lang of Natchez; two daughters, Dolores Lang Moffett and Kim Lang Bishop and her husband, Larry, all of New Orleans; eight grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Dunn of Ridgecrest, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Annie Lea Woods of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Peter Claver.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Bishop, Sam Jones, Dwight Lang, Jason Lang, Justin Lang and S. Ryan Moffett.

Willie Briggs

Feb. 17, 1922 - Jan. 6, 2003

KIRBY - Services for Willie Briggs, 80, of Roxie, who died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in the Briggs cemetery in Kirby under the direction of Tyler Funeral Home.

Visitation is from noon to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Briggs was born icon Feb. 17, 1922, in Franklin County, the son of Elbert and Alvain Byrd Briggs.

He was a retired maintenance worker for the U.S. Forestry Department in Meadville and a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Byrd Briggs; his parents; one son, Charles H. Briggs; and one brother, Millert Briggs.

Survivors include one son, Elbert B. Briggs of Roxie; four daughters, Willie Mae Bailey of Jackson, Lavern Ray of Chicago, Billie Williams of Smithdale and Denise Taylor of Slidell, La.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Virginia Curtis Williams

June 27, 1925 - Jan. 7, 2003

WOODVILLE - Services for Virginia Curtis Williams, 77, of Woodville, who died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Field Memorial Community Hospital in Centreville, will be at noon Saturday at St. James Baptist Church with Dr. George Noflin officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Fayette.

Visitation is from 1 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Williams was born icon June 27, 1925, in Retreat, La., the daughter of Sam and Florenda Thompson Curtis.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. James Baptist Church, where she was in the choir and served on the Deaconess Board. She was also a member of the Heroines of Jericho Rachel Court No. 444 in Fort Adams and the Mount Olive Burial Association.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and seven sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Larnell Williams Sr.; two sons, Joe Williams and his wife, Betty, both of Baton Rouge, and Lionell Williams Jr. of Woodville; four daughters, Marilyn Fort and her husband, Alvin, both of Wilson, La., Flora Perry and Lula Gray and her husband, Harrell, all of Woodville, and Margaret Terry of Baker, La.; four grandchildren, KevinTurner and his wife, Delisia, both of New Orleans, Patrick Williams of Woodville, Alisha Russell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Raven Riddles of Zachary, La.; one goddaughter, Dorothy Slan of Woodville; one nephew, Leon Webb of New Orleans; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Palmer Sr. of Baton Rouge and Mack McWaters of Weyanoke, La.; three nieces, Irma Lindsey and her husband, Mose, both of Zachary, La., Virginia Arbuthnot and her husband, Claiborne, both of St. Francisville, La., and Mary Francis Parker of Tunica, La.; one great-grandchild; two friends, Carrie Veals and her husband, Raymond, and Bernard Robinson and his wife, Debra, all of Woodville; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be James Scott, Melvin Johnson, Bernard Robinson, James Jones, John Jolla, Leroy Lindsey, Leon Webb, Gordon McFarland, Mose Hollins and Melvin Jones.

Elma Murray Cothren

April 12, 1906 - Jan. 8, 2003

MEADVILLE - Services for Elma Murray Cothren, 96, of Meadville, who died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Meadville, will be at 11 a.m. today at Siloam Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 8 to 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cothren was born icon April 12, 1906, in Franklin County, the daughter of Thomas Alfred and Lucie Bilbo Murray.

She was a homemaker and a member of Siloam Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lon Nolan Cothren; three brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Laverne Stroud of Meadville; two friends, Annie Laura Sumrall and Janice Bilbo, both of Meadville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
