Mary Lee Eu Banks

March 27, 1897 - Nov. 3, 2003

CENTREVILLE - Services for Mary Lee Eu Banks, 106, who died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Field Memorial Community Hospital in Centreville, will be at noon Saturday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Hwy 33 South of Centreville with Pastor Dalton Hill officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery adjacent to the church under the direction of Cook Funeral Home of Gloster.

Mrs. Banks was born icon March 27, 1897, on the Whitaker Plantation in Centreville, the daughter of Tom Brown and Millie Washington Brown.

She accepted Christ at age 13 and united with Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Centreville under the leadership of Rev. William Baker. She united in holy matrimony with Joe Diamond in 1925. To this union three children were born. In 1938, she married icon Lee EuBanks. Mrs. Eu Banks was an active member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Usher Board until her health failed. She taught in the public schools of Amite and Wilkinson Counties for 32 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Sophronia Jackson of Woodville and Amanda Harris and husband, Theo of Pomona, CA; one brother, Willie Brown of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, James Ray; five step-children, Louise Arbuthnot of Natchez, Jessie Banks, Mack Henry Banks and Melissa Martin of Chicago and Martha Scraber of Minnesota; special friend, Louis Gibbs; and special friends, Mary E. Jackson and Florence Harris; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Eu Banks was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lee Eu Banks; one daughter, Ruth Parks; two sisters, Roseanna Collins and Joicy Brown; two brothers, Thomas Brown and Louis Brown; and son-in-law, Clarence Jackson.

Pallbearers will be Forest Gibbs, Terry Gibbs, Robert Ray, Johnny L. Myles, Bennie Arbuthnot and Excell Andrews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Brown, Mack Henry Brown, Jennings Holmes and Jacob Perry.

McKinley Scott, Sr.

FAYETTE - Services for McKinley Scott, Sr., 68, of Fayette, who died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, AK, will be at 11 a.m. today at Locust Grove Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Jessie Brown officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Pearlie Mae Chaney

March 16, 1935 - Nov. 3, 2003

ROXIE - Services for Pearlie Mae Chaney, 68, of Mt. Vernon, NY, who died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at Mt. Vernon Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Roxie First Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Saturday at the church.

Ms. Chaney was born icon March 16, 1935, the daughter of Lee Pearl McCoy and Percy Chaney.

She was a retired postal supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service in Mt. Vernon, NY.

Survivors include two sons, Prince Chaney of Atlanta, GA and Preston Chaney of Jackson; one daughter, Lee Pearl Chaney of Mt. Vernon; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends and family members.

Willie Scott

FAYETTE - Services for Willie Scott, 53, who died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at noon today at Hollywood Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Elvin Colenburg officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Williams and Williams.

Boyce Wayne New

Nov. 11, 1939 - Nov. 4, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Boyce Wayne New, 63, of Vidalia, LA, who died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Gary Howington officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. New was born icon Nov. 11, 1939, in El Dorado, AR, the son of James Berrow and Mary Christine Mayfield New.

Survivors include one son, Boyce Wayne New, Jr. of New York; one daughter, Jerry Shannon Terrell of Ferriday, LA; his mother, Christine New of Washington; one sister, Joyce New Westman of Vidalia; two brothers, James Michael New of Washington and William Glenn New of St. Louis, MO.

Pallbearers will be James Lipscomb, Stephen Lipscomb, Jamie Lipscomb, Todd Lipscomb, David New, Jr. and Wayne Johnson.

Howard Bell Peabody, Jr.

LOUISIANA - Howard Bell Peabody, Jr., a longtime Natchez resident, died at home in Metairie, LA on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003. He was the son of Howard Bell Peabody, and grandson of Hiram Bell Peabody, Sr., both of Chicago, IL; son of Elizabeth Yerger Learned Peabody and grandson of Andrew Brown Learned of Natchez. He was husband first of Elizabeth Williams Peabody (deceased 1951) and subsequently husband off Margaret Pipes Peabody.

Mr. Peabody graduated from Choate School in Wallingford, Connecticut and attended Washington and Lee University. At the outbreak of the Second World War, he entered the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, Long Island. Graduating in 1944, he served at sea for the duration of the war. After the war, he entered the family timber and planting businesses in Natchez, and for many years served on the Board of Directors of Britton & Koontz Bank. In 1981, he moved to Blue Hill, Maine. He moved to Metairie, LA in 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughters, Elizabeth P. Miles and Louise L. Peabody of New Orleans, LA and Margaret P. Cotton of Hunstville, AL; son, David H. Peabody of Alexandria, VA; brother, Andrew L. Peabody; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, New Orleans, LA on December 7 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Historic Natchez Foundation.

John Felder Rushing

September 15, 1924--November 1, 2003.

TYLERTOWN--Funeral services for John Felder Rushing, 79, who died Saturday, November 1, 2003 at his residence in Tylertown, will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Capp's Chapel in Tylertown.

Burial will be at Sims cemetery in Tylertown.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Capps Funeral Home.

John Felder Rushing was born icon in Walthall County on September 15, 1924, the son of Curtis E. Rushing, Sr. and Loudella Boyd Rushing. He was United States Air Force veteran, a retired civil service worker and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bennie Mae Rushing; and a daughter, Donnagail Rushing.

Survivors include three sons, John L. Rushing of Covington, La., Albert Rushing of Tylertown, and Mark Rushing of Oklahoma; and two daughters, Mary Lou Rushing Patt of Natchez, and Tammy Kaye Rushing of Tylertown.

Daisy Doss

LORMAN - Services for Daisy Doss, 83, of Fayette, who died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Jefferson County Nursing Home in Fayette, will be at 2 p.m. today at Jessamine Ridge Baptist in Lorman with the Rev. J.N. Dorasy officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time today at the church.

Eddie Hodges, Jr.

Oct. 13, 1929 - Oct. 17, 2003

PINE BLUFF, AR - Services for Eddie Hodges, Jr., 74, of Pine Bluff, who died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. today at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors with the Rev. Gordon Topping officiating.

Burial will be in First Baptist Church of Pine Bluff.

Mr. Hodges was born icon Oct. 13, 1929, in New Orleans, the son of Edmund Crosby and Dorothy Bagot Hodges.

Jerry Rice, Jr.

Oct. 13, 1958 - Oct. 28, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Jerry Rice, Jr., 45, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at the University Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 1 p.m. today at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. LeRoy White officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from noon until service time today at the church.

Mr. Rice was born icon Oct. 13, 1958, in Adams County, the son of Jerry Rice, Sr. and Nancy James.

He was employed with the Sheriff Deputy ACSO and Carpet Sales and Services and was a Baptist.

Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Michelle (White) Rice; one daughter, Jerriney Rice; one son, Devin Carter; mother and stepfather, Nancy and Louis James; four sisters, Shelia Davis of San Antonio, TX, Brenda Strickland of Natchez, Denise Rice and Maria Rice of California; four brothers, Ronnie Rice of Natchez, Clarence Briggs of Dallas, TX, Bryant Rice of California and James "Jerry" Brown and wife, Catherine; 14 aunts and seven uncles; his grandparents, Cleveland Moore and wife, Katie Ruth and Thelma James, all of Natchez; mother-in-law, Henry Louise Carter Smith and husband, Robert; a special friend, Angela Thomas; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Adams County Sheriff Deputies.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Class of 1978.

Dixie Williams

NATCHEZ - Services for Dixie Williams, 75, of New Orleans, LA, formerly of Natchez, who died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at a local hospital in New Orleans, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter Rock Baptist Church, 15-A Tate Road.

Burial will be in the Leesdale cemetery under the direction of C. Johnson Mortuary of New Orleans.

Mrs. Williams was born icon in Natchez, the daughter of Andrew and Stora Miller.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by one son, James Ware; four sisters, Katie Miller, Josephine Hamilton, Addie Miller and Gertrude Williams; three brothers, James Miller, Henry Miller and John Miller.

Survivors include two daughters, Anice Williams and Elaine Williams; three sons, Johnnie Lee Williams, Tyron Williams and Levi Williams, all of New Orleans; four sisters, Lucille Buchanan of Natchez, Laura Miller of New Orleans, Elizabeth Bradford of Kirby and Clarice Montgomery of Natchez; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be members of the family.

Jerry Rice, Jr.

Oct. 13, 1958 - Oct. 28, 2003

NATCHEZ - Services for Jerry Rice, Jr., 45, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at the University Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. LeRoy White officiating.
