NATCHEZ - Services for Carolyn Chatman Nichols, 51, of Birmingham, AL, who died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, in Birmingham, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. James Washington officiating.
Burial will be in Providence cemetery under the direction of R.D. Mackel and Sons.
Visitation is from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Friday at the church.
Mrs. Nichols was born
April 8, 1953, in Adams County, the daughter of Henry Chatman and Mary Newborn Chatman.
She was educated in the Adams County Public School System, was employed with the Social Security Administration and was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Lonnie Nichols Sr. of Birmingham; a daughter, Mary "Nikki" (Reginald) Ware of Birmingham; a son, Lonnie Nichols Jr. of Birmingham; two grandchildren, Imani Ware and Jordon Ware of Birmingham; eight sisters, Mildred (Earl) Rutland, Mary (Jimmy) Profice, all of Natchez, Sarah Isaac of Chicago, IL, Hattie (Johnny Lee) Evans, Deloris Chatman, Yvonne Chatman and Ann Cobb, all of Natchez and Shirley (Kenneth) Smith of Cleveland; two brothers, Willie (Deloris) Chatman and Isaac (Ann) Chatman, all of Chicago; sisters-in-law, Daisy Lyles of Vidalia, LA and Evelyn (Willie James) Fort of Natchez; brother-in-law, Billy (Jacqueline) Nichols of Natchez; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
Hattie Starks Gaines

FAYETTE - Services for Hattie Starks Gaines, 86, of Fayette, who died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Poplar Hill A.M.E. Church with the Rev. John L. Quinn and the Rev. Dr. John Jenkins officiaing.
Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.
Visitation is from is from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gaines was born
June 4, 1917, in Fayette, the daughter of Gibb and Susan Starks.
She was the last of eight siblings, whom all preceded her in death. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Poplar Hill A.M.E. Church. She served faithfully as a United and Sister Society and late on the Stewardette Board No. 1 until her health failed. She was a devoted wife and mother who befriended and touched the life of all she knew.
Mrs. Gaines was preceded in death by one daughter, Amanda Lacey and two grandsons.
Survivors include four daughters, Susie and Mattie Gaines, Rosie Ellis and Willie Mae Smith, all of Fayette; four sons, William (Linda) Gaines Jr., Will T. Gaines and Leonard Gaines, all of Fayette and Leroy (Lucille) Gaines of Harriston; one son-in-law, Willie Lacey of Fayette; 44 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Melvin Cruel of Harriston; two sisters-in-law, Leviolet Gaines of Westland, MI and Eva Gaines of Fayette; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Vanessa Denise Phillips-Eley

BROOKHAVEN - Services for Vanessa Denise Phillips-Eley, 32, of Brookhaven, who died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alexander Jr. High in Brookhaven with the Rev. Charles Caston officiating.
Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery in Lincoln County under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.
Visitation is from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Eley was born
Feb. 8, 1972, in Lincoln County, the daughter of Alice Phillips and J.T. Phillips.
She was a nurse before becoming disabled. She received the Grace Under Fire Award.
Mrs. Eley was preceded in death by he maternal grandparents, Dora Vaughn Byrd, James and Myrtle Lee; paternal grandfather, Ebb Phillips; cousins, Sunday and Stacy Phillips; uncle, Elbie Phillips; and nephew, Marcus Bledsoe.
Survivors include her parents; Alice Phillips and J.T. (Barbara) Phillips; son, Fredrick Jamall Calcote; husband, Andrew Eley; grandmother, Estella Phillips; six sisters, Sophia Lee, Kimberly Phillips, Christy Smith, April Lenoir, all of Brookhaven, Theresa Phillips of Jackson and Orlantha Washington of Pearl; three brothers, Donald Phillips of Brookhaven, Gary Bell and James Calvin Lee of Fairfield, CA; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Oriential Phillips, Jermaine Phillips, Fredrick Calcote, Lloyd Eley, DeWayne Phillips and Chris Tatum.

Mr. Gales was born
March 29, 1952, in Jefferson County, the son of James Gales and Lucinda Perkins.
He was disabled and a member of Mount Zion Church of God and Christ.
Mr. Gales was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; one brother, Acy Gales; and one sister, Blanche Gales.
Survivors include his parents, James and Lucinda Gales of Fayette; two brothers, Robert (Stella) Gales of Fayette and Franklin Gales of Kileen, Texas; two sisters, Mary (James) Thipps of Lexington and Angela (Ronnie) Hampton of Batesville, Ark.; two uncles, Monroe (Corrie) Perkins and Alex Duck, all of Fayette; seven aunts, Mary Hall of Fayette, Eva Johnson of Gulfport, Martha (Anthony) Bell of Gainesville, Fla., Lucille Perkins of Pensacola, Fla., Maude Perkins of Miami, Fla., Eudoxie Perkins of Oakland, Calif., and Lucille Perkins of Jackson; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Ms. Clark was born
Dec. 12, 1912, in Natchez, the daughter of Daniel Johnson and Ruth B. Johnson.
She was a housewife and a member of Mt. Bruin Baptist Church and the usher board.
Survivors include five nieces, Mary Conner of Ferriday, LA, Gloria Clark of Monroe, LA, Henrietta C. Williams of Ferriday, Vivian Hollis and Pearl Clark of Monroe; eight nephews, J.J. Johnson Sr. of Natchez, J.J. Johnson Jr. of Texas, Jason R. Johnson of Detroit, MI, Anthony Lucas of Ferriday, Dr. Ben Clark of Dallas, TX, Issac Clark and Williams Clark of Chicago, IL and Robert Clark of Monroe; one special sister-in-law, Ida Clark of Ferriday.

NATCHEZ - Services for Rosie Lee Stone, 77, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin White officiating.
Burial will be in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of R.D. Mackel and Sons.
Visitation is from noon to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The processional will leave at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from the funeral home.
Ms. Stone was born
Feb. 27, 1926, in Louisiana, the daughter of the late Lucious D. Scott and the late Queen Lou Thomas Scott.
She was a retired certified nursing assistant and a Baptist.
Ms. Stone was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Johnnie Stone III.
Survivors include daughter, Lorraine (Curtis) Stone-Davis of Natchez; nine grandchildren, Ronald Stone of Natchez, Nikita (Evelyn) Stone of Waynesboro, Alana (Greg) Watkins of Houston, TX, Karen (Eric) Stone-Fry and Sharron Webster of Natchez, Europonda (Ronnie) Chestnut, N.C., Kenyatta Stone of Minneapolis, MN, Antre' Stone and Melodia Nunn of MN; 18 great-grandchildren; and a number of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Burial will be in the Natchez National cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.
Mrs. Roach was born
May 24, 1927, in Adams County, the daughter of Julia White and Gabel Isaac Phipps.
She was a member of New Zion No. 1 Baptist Church serving in the choir for over 60 years until she relocated to Mesquite in 2002.
Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Roach McNulty and son-in-law, Sullivan Keith McNulty of Mesquite; sister, Marcella Gant of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Sullivan and Kelsey McNulty of Mesquite; three neices, Denise Byrd and Julia Gant of St. Louis and Marion D. Gant of Sacramento, Calif.; three nephews, Derrick Byrd of St. Louis, Lonnie Gant of Vallejo, Calif., and Leonard Gant of St. Louis; three special cousins, Mary Ella Griffin and Patricia Jenkins of Detroit and Mary Laurant of Natchez; her New Zion Baptist Church Family; and many other relatives and friends.

Ruth Taylor Junkin
MARYVILLE, TENN. -- Ruth Taylor Junkin passed away Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, at Blount Memorial Hospital. No services are planned as the body was cremated at Mrs. Junkin's request.
Mrs. Junkin was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Y. Junkin Jr.
She was survived by two daughters, Rebecca Junkin Neville of Biloxi and Ann Junkin Morton of Woodbridge, Va.; a son, Hugh Y. Junkin III of Atlanta; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tom Taylor of Maryville and Lloyd Taylor of Great Falls, Mont.; and a cousin, Lois Murphy of Maryville.

Mr. Dooley was born
Oct. 5, 1980, in Meadville, the son of Warren and Bonnie Beach Dooley.
He was a self-employed logger.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, George Dooley Sr., cousin, Raven Whitney Beach Murray and great aunt, Leonia Irwin.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Jacob Shaw Dooley and Jeremiah Caleb Dooley, both of Woodville; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Beach of Roxie; paternal grandmother, Mrs. George Dooley Sr., of Woodville; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

NATCHEZ -- Services for Rhoda Marie Poole, 83, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Cobb officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 1 at Springfield Baptist Church.
Mrs. Murray was born
April 29, 1920, in Crosby, the daughter of Charlie and Sarah Elizabeth Taylor Berryhill.
She was a charter member of the Springfield Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ray "Shorty" Poole.
Survivors include two sons, Ted Poole and his wife Sandra of Smithdale and Danny Wade Poole of Natchez; one daughter, Jenny Raye Beach and husband, Billy, of Roxie; nine grandchildren and 10 grandchildren; one brother, Pete Berryhill of Natchez; one sister, Evelyn Dunaway of Natchez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Griff Toney, Mickey Beach, Colby Beach, Chris Beach, Ralph Cox and B.R. Delaughter with honorary pallbearers Dr. Arnold Feldman and Byron Camette.
