Rita Yawn Luttrell

Jan. 9, 1907 -- Feb. 27, 2004

NATCHEZ -- Services for Rita Yawn Luttrell, 97, of Natchez, who died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at Magnolia House, will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Judson W. Hurt and Dan Wynn officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time today at First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Luttrell was born icon Jan. 9, 1907, in Bogue Chitto, the daughter of Hugh Elisha and Selena Elizabeth Buie Yawn.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Martha Sunday school class. She taught the Primary class at First Baptist for 35 years. She was a volunteer in two "Together We Build" building campaigns at the church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Natchez Chapter 75 OES, and the Chloe Holt Chapter DAR of Bogue Chitto.

Mrs. Luttrell was lovingly known by many as Memaw. While at Magnolia House, where she lived for 10 years, she was regularly visited by many children of the community, especially the Community Service Group from Cathedral School. She was known to always have Kit Kat candy for her visitors. She also considered the Magnolia House staff and their children her extended family.

Mrs. Luttrell was employed by Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospitals as the first executive housekeeper before she retired to pursue her many hobbies and interests.

At age 70, she began art classes with much success, sharing her paintings with many. She was a kind lady of many talents, including cooking, gardening and arranging flowers. She loved to sew and quilt. Several of her creations were featured in nationally known quilting magazines. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling with family, friends and the First Baptist Count on Us Group.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Milton "Bob" Luttrell; one grandson, Robert Luttrell; two sisters, Eunice Yawn Hoyland and Adelia "Dutch" Yawn; one son-in-law, J.R. "Lightning" Moore; and one daughter-in-law, Hazel Whitehead Luttrell.

Survivors include one son, Robert Eugene "Bobby" Luttrell of League City, Texas; two daughters, Melba Jane Moore of Texas City, Texas, and Shirley and her husband, Dr. John I. Davis of Beaumont, Texas; six grandchildren, Nancy Leonhardt of Houston, Terry Moore and his wife, Darlene, both of Homestead, Fla.; Dicky Laird and his wife, Diane, and Gene Laird and his wife, Laura, all of Natchez, Jenny Petty and her husband, Benny, both of Hattiesburg, and Keith Luttrell and his wife, Donna, both of League City; her great-grandchildren, Peyton McNair and Jason McNair of Simpsonville, S.C., Sara Petty of Orange Beach, Ala., James Petty of Hattiesburg, Dixon Laird and Sally Laird of Oxford, Abby Laird of Hattiesburg, Brittany Laird of Natchez and Kallie Luttrell of League City; and two great-great-grandchildren, Alexandra Catherine McNair and Jackson James McNair.

Pallbearers will be Terry Moore, Dicky Laird, Gene Laird, Keith Luttrell, Benny Petty, Dixon Laird, James Petty and Jason McNair.

Evelyn Griffith Marshall

Oct. 25, 1953 -- Feb. 26, 2004

HAMBURG -- Services for Evelyn Griffith Marshall, 50, of Roxie, who died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, in Natchez, will be held at noon today at Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mrs. Marshall was born icon Oct. 25, 1953, in Franklin County, the daughter of Danny Griffith and Eloyce Byrd.

She graduated from Franklin High School and earned her master's degree from Alcorn State University. She was a retired teacher. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she was pastured by the Rev. Carl Johnson. She was also a member of Mount Oliver Chapter No. 9 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Adah Grand Chapter OES.

She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents.

Survivors include her husband, August Marshall Jr.; two daughters, Ashley Marshall and Trinetta Johnson; one grandson, Jaylan L/ Andre Johnson; three brothers, Thomas Griffith, James Griffith and Johnny Griffith; and one sister, Linda B. Washington.

Rita Yawn Luttrell

Barbara Newman Parsons "Bobbi"

NATCHEZ - Services for Barbara Newman Parsons "Bobbi", 53, who died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.

Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Welsh Funeral Home in Gonzales, LA and from 11 a.m. until service time Sunday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.

She was a retired collector for a financial service, a native of Monroe and a resident of Gonzales, LA

Ms. Parsons was preceded in death by her father, Woodrow Newman and grandparents, Lawrence and Susie Hedgepeth and O.S. and Nannie Bell Newman.

Survivors include her mother, Nell Hedgepeth Newman of Natchez; a daughter, Shannon Mitchell of Gonzales; a son, Joey Dunigan of Gonzales; two brothers, Douglas Newman of Gonzales and Mark Newman of Natchez; six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Mitchell, Jonathan Newman, Robert Bradley, Ron White, John "Red" Burns and James "Red" Bardin.

Eddie Wade Green

Feb. 20, 1945 - Feb. 23, 2004

FT. ADAMS - Services for Eddie Wade Green, 59, of Woodville, who died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at West Jefferson Hospital in Marrero, LA, will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at Oak Hill First Zion Baptist Church in Ft. Adams with the Rev. Harold Smith officiating.

Burial will be in the Hunter Family cemetery in Lessley under the direction of Williams and Williams.

Mr. Green was born icon Feb. 20, 1945, in Woodville, the son of Herbert Green Sr. and Mayola Wade.

He was a laborer with Long Shoreman and a member of the usher board at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Ft. Adams.

Survivors include two daughters, Valencia Thompson of Harvey, LA and Katerri Wilshire of Vanburen, AR; one son, Eddie Makey of Avondale, LA; two sisters, Annie Lee and Sherita Green, both of Woodville; one brother, Herbert Green Jr. of Dolton, IL; and eight grandchildren.

Evelyn Griffith Marshall

Oct. 25, 1953 - Feb. 26, 2004

HAMBURG - Services for Evelyn Griffith Marshall, 50, of Roxie, who died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at MS Baptist Medical Center, will be at noon Sunday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hamburg with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

Visitation is from noon to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Marshall was born icon Oct. 25, 1953, in Natchez, the daughter of Al Jessie and Eloyce byrd and the late Danny Griffith.

She was a retired teacher and a member of Mt. Olive Ch. #9 and Adah Grand Chapter O.E.S.

Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by her father, Danny Griffith.

Survivors include her husband, August J. Marshall Jr.; daughters, Ashley Eloyce Marshall and Andrea Trinetta Marshall-Johnson; son-in-law, Walter L. Johnson III; grandson, Jaylan Le'Andre Johnson; parents, Al Jessie and Eloyce Byrd; brothers, James M. Griffith Sr., Thomas Giffith Sr. and John Wesley Griffith; sister, Linda B. Washington.

Madolene Clark

COLUMBUS - Services for Madolene Clark, 75, formerly of Pearl, who died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at Trinity Health Care Center in Columbus, will be at 2 p.m. today at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Pearl.

Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens under the direction of Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pearl and the Order of the Eastern Star. A former hairdresser, she retired as a receptionist from St. Dominic Hospital.

Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband, Roy B. Clark Sr. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet Gordon (Jerry) of Columbus; sons, Mark Clark and Roy Clark Jr., both of Pearl; grandchildren, Chris Clark, Matt Gordon, Meagan Gordon and Karen Clark; and closest friend, Gayle Martin of Jackson.

Abraham Hunter

Oct. 4, 1908 - Feb. 20, 2004

WOODVILLE - Services for Abraham Hunter, 95, of Lessley, who died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Fields Memorial Hospital, will be at noon Saturday at Magnolia Baptist Church in Woodville with the Rev. Robert Sullivan officiating.

Burial will be in Hunter Family cemetery under the direction of Williams and Williams.

Mr. Hunter was born icon Oct. 4, 1908, the son of Robert Hunter and Susie Beverly.

He was a farmer, was a Deaconess and a member of Magnolia Baptist Church of Woodville and a member of Masonic Lodge #622 of Fort Adams.

Survivors include ten daughters, Annie Williams of Westwego, LA, Bernice Ross of Baton Rouge, Charlotte Hunter of Lessley, Kay Hunt of Americos, GA, Gussie Marie Vough of Tacoma, WA, Lela Swain of Las Vegas, NV, Martha Denmark of Ayer, MA, Willie Mae Gaines of Lessley, Mary Anderson of Farmington, CN and Yvonne Palmer of Las Vegas, NV; three sons, Abraham Hunter Jr. of Detroit, MI, Arthur Hunter Sr. of New Orleans and William Hunter of Las Vegas; one sister, Helen Kirby of Lutcher, LA; one sister-in-law, Bessie Clark of Baton Rouge; 62 grandchildren, 103 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

George Melville "Buddy" Thomas Jr.

April 12, 1944 - Feb. 26, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for George Melville "Buddy" Thomas Jr., 59, of Brookhaven, who died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home South Chapel with the Rev. Winston Winstead officiating.

Burial will be in Damascus Baptist Church cemetery near Lucien under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home South Chapel.

Mr. Thomas was born icon April 12, 1944, in Natchez, the son of George Melville Thomas Sr. and Mary Alice Druetta Thomas.

He graduated from Natchez High School and attended Ole Miss. He served in the United States Navy, retired from International Paper Company after 38 years of service and was also employed with Co-Lin Wesson Golf Course.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Jean McKamie Thomas of Brookhaven; son, Bill Thomas and wife, Candi of Natchez; daughter, Laura Pickering and husband, Greg of Wilmington, N.C.; granddaughters, Morgan Thomas, Mackenzie Thomas and Kaycee Pickering; sister, Kit Hightower of Natchez; mother, Mary Alice Thomas of Natchez; nieces, Lisa Byrnes and husband, Harry of Destin, FL and Cheri Walden of Natchez; nephews, Chris Walden and Bryan Walden, both of Natchez, Shawn Byrnes and William Byrnes, both of Destin, FL.

Pallbearers will be Gery Cupit, Edward Lee Murray, Carl Bateman, Warren King, Joe Stedman, Richard Brock and Jack Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be J. E. Pickering, Mike Graves, Danny Weeks, Shorty Rushing, Steve Bass, Walter Dawkins, Toxie Burnette, Scott Goodman and Danny Jackson.

John "Jack" Mayron Hardin Jr.

Dec. 6, 1917 - Dec. 27, 2003

DURANGO, CO - Memorial service for John "Jack" Mayron Hardin Jr., 86, who died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Durango, were held Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Hood Mortuary where Father Myron Darmour of Mercy Medical Center Chaplain officiated.

Cremation was at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango. The Ashes were scattered in the San Juan Mountains in La Platta County of Durango.

Mr. Hardin was born icon Dec. 6, 1917, in Jeffersonville, IN, the son of John and Margaret (Ferguson) Hardin.

He married icon Evelyn May Hardin in 1964 at Tyllertown. He served in the Marine Corp. during World War II. In Natchez, he was the owner/operator of the family farm and spent years in the bridge and heavy construction industry. He and Evelyn moved to Durango in 1989 following retirement from International Paper Co. after 27 years of service as a maintenance superintendent. Mr. Hardin enjoyed scuba diving and extensive travel during his retirement years.

Mr. Hardin was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn May; his father, John M. Hardin; his mother, Margaret F. Ferguson; his sister, Mary Juanita Hardin; and his first wife, Elizabeth Cobb Hardin.

Survivors include his son, John M. and Nancy Torrey Hardin III of Natchez and a brother, Edward M. Hardin of Cullman, AL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Health Foundation, Cornerstone Campaign, 375 E. Park Avenue, Durango, CO 81301.
