Opal Andrews Jackson

May 3, 1925 - Feb. 23, 2004

NATCHEZ - Graveside funeral services for Opal Andrews Jackson, 78, of Natchez, who died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 9 a.m. today at Natchez City cemetery with the Rev. James E. Herndon officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jackson was born icon May 3, 1925, in Natchez, the daughter of Benjamin Fred and Myrtis Mabel McCranie Andrews.

Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, E. T. "Pete" Jackson; a brother, J. T. Andrews; and two sisters, Laura Sullivan and Ruth Andrews.

Survivors include sons, James T. Jackson of Natchez, Charles W. Jackson of Florida and Deborah Jackson Coleman of Fayetteville, AR; and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Bailey

Aug. 3, 1925 - Feb. 24, 2004

KINGSTON -- Services for Elizabeth Bailey, 78, who died Wednesday at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Egypt Baptist Church in Kingston with the Rev. Ernest Ford officiating.

Burial will follow at the Church cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church.

Mrs. Bailey was born icon on Aug. 3, 1925 in Natchez, the daughter of Israel and Harriet Ivory Frazier.

She was a retired cook and a member of the Star of Hope O.E.S. Vidalia Chapter, Mother's Board and Willing Work Club.

Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband William L. Bailey Sr. of Vidalia; three sons, William Bailey and wife Sandra, Cleveland Bailey and wife Darlette all of Houston, Texas and Lawrence Frazier of Roseville, Calif.; two daughters, Brenda Smith and husband Anthony of Montgomery, Ala., Burtel Frazier of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and one brother, James Lee Ivory and his wife Fannie of Natchez.

Barnett Eugene Fletcher

Feb. 5, 1927 - Feb. 17, 2004

NATCHEZ - Graveside services for Barnett Eugene Fletcher, 77, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Veterans Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Natchez City cemetery with the Rev. David McGuffee officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitations is from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.

Mr. Fletcher was born icon Feb. 5, 1927, in Good Hope, the son of James Henry and Cora Elizabeth Ewing Fletcher.

He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II aboard the USS Georgia and as a Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Fletcher was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jacquline Fletcher; and a brother, William Henry Fletcher.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Fletcher of Natchez; one son, David F. Fletcher of Marietta, GA; granddaughter, Elizabeth Fletcher of Marietta; grandson, Harrison Fletcher of Marietta; brother, James Ewing Fletcher of Florence; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Alberta Johnson Bradford

KIRBY - Services for Alberta Johnson Bradford, 86, of Roxie, who died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at her residence, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Kirby.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Tyler Funeral Home of Brookhaven.

Ms. Bradford was a former dietician in the Meadville Nursing Home.

Lavander Owens

Funeral arrangements for Lavander Owens, 89, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at his residence, are incomplete at George F. West Funeral Home.

Bennie Lee "Daddy Bo" Rogers

Oct. 20, 1936 - Feb. 12, 2004

FAYETTE - Services for Bennie Lee "Daddy Bo" Rogers, 67, of Fayette, who died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jefferson County High School Auditorium with the Rev. Clarence Thomas, Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Beckett Chapel A.M.E. Church cemetery in Fayette under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the school.

Mr. Rogers was born icon Oct. 20, 1936, in Jefferson County, the son of Fed Rogers and Geneva Gray.

He married icon Della Jean (Hunter) Rogers and to this union six children were born.

Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Edward Conway; and one sister, Bernice R. Ward.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Della Jean Rogers of Fayette; one son, Leroy (Debra) Hunter of Morgan City, LA; five daughters, Patricia (James) Earls, Carolyn (Dalton) Brown, all of Houma, LA, Dorothy Jackson, Michelle (Tony) Anderson, all of Fayette and Lucille (Charles) Donaldson of Church Hill; a child he reared as his own daughter, Latrisha Wilson of Fayette; nine sisters, Clara Lee Rogers, Lillie Williams and Jenette Green, all of Natchez, Johnnie Mae Johnson of Chicago, IL, Georgia Brown of Tallulah, LA, JoAnn Davis of Newellton, LA, Emma Valentine of Vallajo, CA and Shirley Adams of Vicksburg; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two special cousins, Katie Mae Grace of Chicago and Carrie Ann Knight of Vicksburg.

Pallbearers wil be Trent Hudson, Lehaman (Boe) Jackson, Albert Larry, Alphonse Larry, Jr., Claudie Earls, Brock Arnold.

Honorary pallbearers will be Leroy Hunter, James L. Earls, Sr., James L. Earls, Jr., Eric L. Rogers, Derrick L. Rogers, Charles Donaldson, Sr., Charles Donaldson, Jr., Robert Rogers, Lavinckey Rogers, Dalton Brown, Trevaughn Donaldson, Tony Anderson, Devin Anderson and Bentavia Anderson.

Margaret Ware Hill

Oct. 6, 1935 - Feb. 1, 2004

NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Margaret "Punky" Ware Hill, 68, who suddenly passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at her home in Portland, TX, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. John Larson officiating.

Visitation for all family, friends and guests will follow at the Ware residence at 120 Seargent S. Prentiss Dr.

Final interment will be in the Natchez City cemetery in a private service for the family.

Mrs. Hill was born icon Oct. 6, 1935, in El Dorado, AR and grew up in Natchez.

She graduated from LSU in 1958 where she met and later married icon Robert A. F. "Bob" Hill. Three children were born icon to this union, Robert Ware Hill, deceased, Philip Charles Hill of Portland, TX and Margaret Hill Davidson of Taft, TX.

She was Queen of the Natchez Pilgrimage before being moved to South Texas. Subsequently, she became involved with the United Cerebral Palsy as a volunteer in many capacities. She was a part of many social organizations. Her unique talents for dealing with difficult issues resulting in a positive outlook have touched the lives of many of her friends. She was be survived by many Margaret Hill stories.

Survivors also include five grandchildren, Carrie, Randy and Jessica Hill and Joe and Angelica Davidson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorial contributions be made in Margaret's name to a charity of ones choice.

James Francis Jones

Sept. 30, 1967 - Feb. 18, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for James Francis Jones, 36, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, February 18, 2004, in Jackson, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary Basilica with Reverend David O'Connor officiating. Concelebrants will be Reverend Brian Kaskie, Reverend Michael O'Brien and Reverend Paul Kunnumpurum.

Burial will be in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Jones was born icon September 30, 1967, in Natchez, the son of the late Walter Eugene "Wally" Jones, Jr. and Rita Claire Eidt Jones.

He was a 1985 graduate of Cathedral High School.

He was store manager of NAPA in Natchez. Mr. Jones has been with the NAPA family since 1991. During his 12 years at NAPA, he enjoyed working with various businesses throughout the state of Mississippi, here in Natchez, and the surrounding Miss-Lou area. Mr. Jones and the employees at NAPA were proud to be sponsors of the Partners in Education Program for the Fallin Career and Technical Center. Throughout his career with NAPA, he received numerous awards for his outstanding salesmanship.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his father, Walter Eugene "Wally" Jones, Jr.; his paternal grandparents, Walter Eugene Jones, Sr. and Marie "Mamie" Hunter Jones; his maternal grandparents, James Anthony Eidt, Sr. and Rosalie Stone Eidt.

Survivors include his mother, Rita Claire Eidt Jones Tebbetts and husband, Harvey Burton Tebbetts, Jr.; his siblings, Valerie Ann Jones Heifler and husband Bob Heifler of Lake View Terrace, CA, Walter Eugene Jones, III and his wife Brenda Goble Jones of Huntsville, AL, Rosemarie "Rosie" Jones Nettles and her husband, Ronald Edward Nettles, II of Natchez, Charles Hunter "Charlie" Jones and his wife Jennifer Celestia Paige Jones of Holly Springs, NC, Vaughn Richard Jones and his wife Ashley Barmettler Jones of Laurel, and Margaret Elaine Jones Tatum and her husband Patrick Blake Tatum of Memphis, TN; his nieces and nephews, Claire Elizabeth Heifler, Sydney Marie Heifler, Meredith Elaine Heifler, all of Lake View Terrace, CA, Christine Nicole Jones, Chelsea Marie Jones, Jacob Walter Jones, all of Huntsville, Jordan Elaine Nettles and Brandon Edward Nettles of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be Bubba Hale, Russell Pierce and Adolph Hall, all of Natchez, Todd Ambrose, Robert Bomar, Bill Daniels, Marlon Gullette and Joe Spratlin, all of Jackson and Ben Hinton of Hattiesburg.

Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Brown, Charles Mardis, Ronald Haney, Charlie Metcalf and Vernita Singleton, all of Natchez, Eddie Davis, Joe Eady, Ken Lee, Jim Huggart, Derek McIntyre, Mark Sloan and Ricky Walker, all of Jackson.

Marva E. Stewart

April 24, 1939 - Feb. 16, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Marva E. Stewart, 64, of Natchez, who died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin White officiating.

Burial will be in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Stewart was born icon April 24, 1939, in Adams County, the daughter of Richard and Ethel Ellis.

She was a graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School and Alcorn A & M College and was employed with Southwest Mississippi Planning and Development for Aging/Social Worker. She was a Baptist, a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church Senior Choir, Zion Flower Baptist Church Senior Choir, Voices of Hope and Pilgrim Baptist Church Food Committee.

Survivors include six children, Gladys Jackson of Hattiesburg, Larry (Arleen) Stewart of Ocean Springs, Samuel Stewart, Jr., Richard (Lena M.) Stewart, Sr., Gary Stewart, Sr. and Ocsar (Carmen) Stewart, all of Natchez; 11 grandchildren, special in-laws, nieces, nephews; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Anderson, Marti Anderson, Julius Hannon, Theodore Johnson, Clarence Simpson and Herman Washington, Jr.

Buford F. Wood

Services for Buford F. Wood, 82, of Jonesville, LA, who died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, in Alexandria, LA, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lake Lilly Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Bass and the Rev. James Foster officiating.

Burial will beat 11 a.m. Saturday at Jonesboro Memorial Park cemetery in Jonesboro, AR under the direction of Young's Funeral Home of Jonesville.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Delores M. Watson

Funeral arrangements for Delores M. Watson, 62, of Ferriday, LA, who died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, are incomplete at Concordia Funeral Home.

Edwin L. Brown

NATCHEZ - Services for Edwin L. Brown, 98, who died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Adams County Nursing Center, will be at noon Friday at Webb Funeral System Chapel with the Rev. Clifton E. Marvel, Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park under the direction of Webb Funeral System.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was retired from Natchez Regional Medical Center and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Survivors include one brothers, Frances (Margert) Brown of Tampa, FL.

James Jones

NATCHEZ - Services for James Jones, 36, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at Select Hospital in Jackson, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Basilica.

Burial will be in the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the church.
