NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Myrtle (Lynn) Linda Woods, 52, of Natchez, who died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at the University Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 11 a.m. at Saturday St. Paul AME Church with the Rev. John L. Quinn officiating.

Services are under the direction of Webb Funeral System.

She confessed her life to Christ at an early age at St. Paul AME Church.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Teriney Jarlonda Woods; her father, Leonard Woods Sr.; and her nephew, Demond Latrell Woods.

She leaves to mourn her passing; her mother, Bettie L. Woods; three daughters, Nefela Kaye Woods, Katrina L. Woods of Natchez and Kenethia (Quincey) Carpenter of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Candice Woods, Brittany Woods, Darrius Woods, Cameron Woods, Makeda Woods, T'Mia Woods, Kenneth Woods and Teriy'Onna Woods; three brothers, Leonard (Earnestine) Woods Jr. of Natchez, Arnold (Pat) Woods and Terry (Shirley) Woods, all of Jackson; three sisters, Betty Jo (Charles) Fleming, Jeraldine (Samuel) Brown and Evangeline (Lee Edward) Scott, all of Natchez; a very special niece, Evandia R. Woods; and a number of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Sandy Lee "Sam the Sham" Hammett

April 25, 1946 - Feb. 18, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Sandy Lee "Sam the Sham" Hammett, 57, of Vidalia, LA, who died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrew AME Church with the Rev. Delores Ferguson-Richardson officiating.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the National cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Mr. Hammett was born icon April 25, 1946, in Adams County, the son of Bill Grover Hammett and Harriett Floyd Hammett.

He was employed with Diamond International, served in the United States Army and was a member of St. Andrews AME Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Angela D. Smith of Vidalia; one son, Garret (Lasonya) Proby of Natchez; two brothers, Billy (Norma) Hammett of Natchez and Willie (Fredericka) Hammett of Marion, AR; one sister-in-law, Alma Hammett of McDonough, GA; five grandchildren, Myshaye, Freddrill, Richard, Sarah and Deante; two uncles, Charles Floyd and Sandy Nealy, both of Natchez; two aunts, Geraldine Floyd and Lulu Mae Nealy, both of Natchez; one god sister, Hattie rose Fleming of Washington; special friends, Mary Ann Henderson of Vidalia and James Dixon and Annabel McNealy, both of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Richard Roy Robinson Sr.

June 13, 1955 - Feb. 23, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Richard Roy Richardson Sr., 48, of Kenner, LA, who died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at East Jefferson Hospital in Kenner, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church with Bishop Stanley B. Searcy Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Robinson was born icon June 13, 1955, in Adams County, the son of Richard Minor and Eliza M. Johnson.

He was educated in the Adams County Public School System and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Walker Robinson; two sons, Marcus D. Robinson and Richard R. Robinson Jr.; two daughters, Angela Barnes and Tameka Wimberly; mother, Eliza Johnson; father and step-mother, Richard and Gladys Minor; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Deloris Robinson, Helen (Gerald) Jackson, Julia Griffin and Wanda (Alton) Ceasor Jr.; four brothers, Leslie (Shirley) Robinson Sr., Jerome Robinson, Kenny (LaJune) Robinson Sr. and Arthur Robinson; two step-sisters, Jennifer Minor and Debra Harvey; five step-brothers, Ronnie Minor, Rickey Minor, Steven Minor, Rev. Herman Sylvester and Anthony Sylvester; three aunts, Phyllis Robinson, Ethel Robinson and Katherine Minor; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Stephney, Raymond Wiley, G. Wesley, Larry Duck Sr., Danny Minor and Dwight Douglas Sr.

Ronald James Redd

March 18, 1951 - Feb. 24, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Ronald James Redd, 52, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital in Birmingham, AL, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Pastor Terry Smith and Elder Talmadge Anderson officiating.

Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Redd was born icon March 18, 1951, in Columbus, the son of Elmore Ashley and Erma Yates Redd.

He was a member of Covington Road Church of Christ. Mr. Redd was employed as manager at E. A. Redd Pest Control. He was a member of the Mississippi and Louisiana Pest Control Associations. He served as past president of Natchez Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Mr. Redd was an avid Coca-Cola Collector. He received two heart transplants and was a member of MORA "MS Organ Recovery Agency, Inc."

Mr. Redd was preceded in death by his father, Elmore Ashley Redd.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Vines Redd of Natchez; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Redd of Natchez; mother, Erma Yates Redd of Natchez; brother, Jerry Lee Redd of Baton Rouge, LA; sisters, Gayle Carlock of Enterprise, LA, Sherrie Ray of Natchez and Michele Anderson of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be Dwight Swain, Dwayne Carlock, Michael Anderson, Lynn McNemar, Mike Wooten, Jerry Redd, Gordan Redd and Eddie Ray.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benton Ables, Jimmy Taylor, Ellis Crooks and Louis Crooks Jr.

Thoma Ball

July 17, 1915 - Feb. 23, 2004

ROGERS, AR - Memorial services for Thoma Ball, 88, of Rogers, who died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rogers, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Callison-Lough Funeral Home Chapel in Rogers.

Mrs. Ball was born icon July 17, 1915, in Springfield, MO, the daughter of Thomas Ellis and Eleanor Miller Dabbs.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer Research, Kathleen Honaker, Director of Development, American Health Assistance Foundation, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871.

Doris Trochesset Steckler

BILOXI - Mrs. Doris Trochesset Steckler of Biloxi, MS died Saturday, February 21, 2004 at the age of 92 in Nerinx, KY. Doris, a lifelong resident of Biloxi, resided since April 1998 with the Sisters of Loretto, a Catholic religious order of which her daughter Diana Margaret Steckler (Sister Marie Lourde) is a member.

A graduate of Biloxi High School, Doris graduated from the Biloxi Hospital Diploma Nursing Program in 1931. She worked as a registered nurse, serving the Biloxi Hospital and individuals through private duty.

Doris was a loving homemaker, and worked with her husband at their business, Steckler Seed, and at the Officers Club and later the NCO Club at Keesler Air Force Base as a floral designer. She supplied floral arrangements for many weddings along the Gulf Coast, and enjoyed other artistic outlets such as painting and ceramics.

She was a Past President of the Gulf Pines Council of the Girl Scouts of America, and was a volunteer nurse at Camp Wilkes in Biloxi for many years. She was also an 18 year volunteer with the Biloxi Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Doris was always ready to help anyone in need, and the City of Biloxi recognized her with a Service Award in 1994.

Doris was very active in the Camellia Society and Magnolia Garden Club. She loved her camellias, and propagated many of her own varieties which endure today. She also enjoyed her canasta club, and was a past member of Les Masquees carnival organization.

Doris demonstrated her very strong faith to everyone she knew. She was a longtime member of Nativity BVM Cathedral, where she gave freely of her time and talents, creating flower arrangements and serving on the Altar Society and various other committees through the years. She received the Bishop's Service Cross from Bishop Joseph Lawson Howze in 1984.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Trochesset and Theresa Quave Trochesset, her sisters, Cleo Dubuisson, Elise Kostmeyer, and Isabelle Bounds, her brother, Rene Trochesset, her husband, Frotscher Richard Steckler, an infant daughter, Pamela Steckler, a son, Dr. David Steckler of Natchez, and a grandson, Jon Steckler, also of Natchez.

She is survived by her sons, Frotscher Joseph Steckler (Valerie) of Rockport, TX, Judge Sanford Richard Steckler (Judy) of Biloxi, and her daughter, Sister Marie Lourde, of Nerinx, KY; and daughter-in-law, Dale Holloway Steckler of Natchez. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dr. Janine Steckler Parker (Mike), Jeffrey Steckler, Jeanne Polk (Terry), Stephanie Bryson (Kenneth), Dr. David Steckler (Susan), Suzanne Steckler, Jennifer Steckler, Gerrit Steckler, Wesley Steckler, Mark Steckler, Mary Margaret Steckler, Jason Steckler, and Karla Steckler, her godson, Carey Trochesset, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, February 26, 2004, 11:00 a.m. at Nativity BVM Cathedral, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow at Southern Memorial Park.

Because Doris was such a generous spirit, the family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Jon Steckler Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1402, Natchez, MS 39121-1402.

Levander "Lee" "Dick" Owens

Sept. 1, 1914 - Feb. 19, 2004

CHURCH HILL - Services for Levander "Lee" "Dick" Owens, 89, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at his residence, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Gospel Temple Baptist Church in Church Hill with the Rev. Maurice Irving officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Thursday at the church.

Mr. Owens was born icon Sept. 1, 1914, in Jefferson County, the son of Rose Gaylor Owens and Solomon Owens.

He was educated in the Adams County Public School System, was retired from Edgin Construction since 1972 and attended Gospel Temple Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Felton Owens; one daughter, Georgia (Paris) Martin; a granddaughter he reared as his own, Rochell (George) Jackson; 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren; six sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law; one son-in-law, Johnnie Thompson; one daughter-in-law, Mary Owens; a special great-grandson, Cedric Owens; a special niece, Annie (Roosvelt) White; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Jones, Juan McDonald, Ricky Owens, Terry Owens, George Jackson and Jerry Martin.

NATCHEZ - Services for Irma L. Irving Harris, 71, of St. Paul, MN formerly of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2004, in Minnesota, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Robert McKinley, SSJ officiating.

Burial will be in the Natchez National cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Harris was born icon July 5, 1932, in Adams County, the daughter of Aniece Malone Irving and David Irving.

She retired in 1992 from State Farm Insurance Company and was a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, the choir and Ladies of Peter Claver.

Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Harris of St. Paul, MN; one sister, Dorothy (David) Prater of Natchez; one brother, Earl L. Irving of New Orleans, LA; one brother-in-law, Charles (Selma) Harris Jr. of Natchez; one aunt, Bernice (Julius) Gibson of New Orleans; one uncle, Joseph Irving of New Haven, CT; four sisters-in-law; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Charles E. Prater and Knights of Peter Claver.

Doris Trochesset Steckler
