Nov. 25, 1916 - May 20, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for William Pettis, 87, of Chicago, Ill., who died Thursday, May 20, 2004, in Chicago, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. James Anderson officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Mark Baptist Church cemetery in Kingston under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from noon to 10 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Pettis was born icon Nov. 25, 1916, in Adams County, the son of Johnnie and Ida Pettis of Natchez.

Survivors include his daughters, Irene (Curtis) Jones and Rhonda Petties; one son, William Petties Jr.; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bessie Johnson of Chicago, Annie Mae (Leslie) Joyner of Missouri and Elizabeth (Willie) Briscoe of Chicago; one brother, Richard (Carrie) Petties; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Petties and Marquerite Petties of New Orleans; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Joe D. Wallace, Robert Lewis, Alexander McQuarter, Clyde Bernard, Charles Screw and Ponce Crosonga.

Jamison Eugene Pritchard

Sept. 11, 1991 - May 25, 2004

WOODVILLE - Services for Jamison Eugene Pritchard, 12, of Woodville, who died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, in Wilkinson County, will be at 2 p.m. today at Corinth Church of Christ with Brother Bernard Waites and Brother Kevin Dixon officiating.

Burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery in Woodville under the direction of Brown Funeral Home of Gloster.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Jamison was born icon Sept. 11, 1991, in Natchez, the son of Larry and Allison McKlemurry Pritchard.

He was a student at Wilkinson County Christian Academy and a member of Corinth Church of Christ.

Survivors include his father and mother, Larry and Allison McKlemurry Pritchard of Woodville; two brothers, Brad and Carson Pritchard of Woodville; maternal grandparents; Alvester and Louis Geter McKlemurry and Gene and Auline Enloe Pritchard, all of Woodville.

Pallbearers will be Jason Cavin, Neal Cavin, Duston Dore', Joey Dooley, Ronald Haney, Chris Cavin, Chris McKlemurry, Brian McKlemurry and James Dooley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Sanders, Bill Geter, Clifton Sanders, Ronnie Longmire, William Longmire, Brian Dooley, Bowen Strahan, D. J. Strahan, Ryan Strahan, Tim Bonds, Dave Carter, Ed Walker, Ray Olive IV, Paul Hayles, Sam Byrd IV, Mike Price and the Men of Corinth Church of Christ.

Joe F. Cavallas

July 10, 1933 - May 25, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Joe F. Cavallas, 70, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with James Wentworth officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Cavallas was born icon July 10, 1933, in Vicksburg, the son of George James and Erba Delilah Hutchins Cavallas.

He was a Baptist and a member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Master Mason of the Andrew Jackson Lodge, Thirty Second Degree Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and the Wahabi Shriners. He was loved and respected by his family, friends and members of his profession for his honesty, integrity and unique sense of humor.

Mr. Cavallas was preceded in death by his parents; uncle, John Tillery; and aunt, Jane Tillery.

Survivors include his wife, Joy R. Cavallas of Natchez; daughters, Jane Cavallas Smith and husband, Greg of Waco, Texas and Jodi Cavallas Bourdin and husband, Selton of Clinton; son, Joel Rutledge Cavallas and wife, Edie of Bradenton, Fla.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dwight Cameron, Clark Nerren, Steve Newman, Glen Perilloux, Scott Smith and Hall Wilson.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Natchez Children's Home or NATCHEZ - Adams County Humane Society.

James William Powers

NATCHEZ - Graveside services for James William Powers, 86, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Adams County Nursing Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenlawn Memorial Park cemetery.

Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel.

Rudell Hannah Sorrell

Oct. 3, 1904 - May 24, 2004

BELZONI - Graveside services for Rudell Hannah Sorrell, 99, who died Monday, May 24, 2004, in Centreville, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Belzoni cemetery with the Rev. Tom Sorrell officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Brown Funeral Home of Gloster.

The family will receive visitors after the service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Bridgers, 806 Pecan St., Belzoni.

Mrs. Sorrell, affectionately known as "Bubber Sorrell" was born icon Oct. 3, 1904, in Webster County, the daughter of William Harris Hannah and Mattie Lee Hazzard Hannah.

She was a long time resident of Belzoni. She was a homemaker, having served as County Womens Chairman of the Farm Bureau, a member of the Garden Lovers Club and a member of the Four Mile Home Demonstration Club. She was also a member of the Belzoni First Methodist Church and the Womens Society of Christian Service.

Mrs. Sorrell was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Hill Sorrell; her son, John William Sorrell; three sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include two granddaughters, Kay Sorrell McNabb and her husband, Bubba and Jan Sorrell McGraw, all of Centreville; five great-granddaughters, Melissa Dabagia, Corley Wicker, Suzanne David, Emily McGraw and Mary Margaret McGraw; one great-grandson, Bo McNabb; five great-great-grandchildren, Mary Claire McGraw, Eli and Luke Wicker, Morgan and Madison Dabagia; a special daughter-in-law and her husband, Bettye and Scott McCay; a number of nieces and nephews; her loving caregivers, Wilma Hamilton, Bea Williams, Dora Owens and Peggy Havard.

Special thanks to the staff of Sta-Home Gloster.

Pallbearers will be Bo McNabb, Ken David, Kyle Wicker, Jeremy Soulier and Joel Cupit.

Eugene Steverson

NATCHEZ - Services for Eugene Steverson of Natchez, who died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. today at Greater St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. James Brooks officiating.

Burial will be in the Natchez National cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mr. Steverson was born icon in Adams County, the son of John and Elizabeth Steverson.

He was educated in the Adams County Public Schools, was self-employed and was retired from Natchez Regional Medical Center since 1989. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda G. Steverson; niece, Irma J. Jackson; six nephews; two brothers-in-law, Semo Green and Lee Arthur Davis; one special great-niece, Courtney Sims; a special friend, A. J. Reed; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Semo Warren, Willie Knowles, Willard Sims Sr., Lester Leach Jr., Clarence McQuarter Sr. and A. J. Reed.

Honorary pallbearers will be Semo Green, Mose Warren, Terrence Green, Willard Sims Jr. and Jerrell Sims.

Justin M. Day Jr.

Dec. 5, 1929 - May 23, 2004

NATCHEZ - Graveside services for Justin M. Day Jr., 74, of Natchez, who died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at his residence, will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at Greenlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Glen Harrigill officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Day was born icon Dec. 5, 1929, in Buffalo, the son of Justin M. and Donnie Pritchard Day.

He was a Veteran of World War II and was a retired heavy equipment operator for International Paper Company.

Survivors include one brother, Ed Day and wife Pearl of Kinston, N.C.; one special friend, Josephine "Jo" Krachola of Sibley.

Max Voss

July 26, 1917 - May 23, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Max Voss, 86, of Natchez, who died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at his residence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Basilica with Father David O'Conner, Father Alfred Camp and Father Paul Kunnumpurum officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Voss was born icon July 26, 1917, in Copenhagen, Denmark, the son of Ernst Frederic and Adolphine Woldemar Voss.

He came to the United States when he was 22 years old. Mr. Voss was a devout Catholic and attended St. Mary Basilica and served on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as a Fourth Degree Grand Knight and District Deputy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 87th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron serving in Europe during World War II. Mr. Voss was a past-Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Forty and Eight. He retired from Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company and worked many years at St. Mary Basilica.

Mr. Voss was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Axel Voss and Eric Voss; two sisters, Erna Strickland and Ingeborg Gynthor.

Survivors include his wife, Anita E. Voss of Natchez; daughter, Anita Voss Souderes and husband, George of Natchez; grandchildren, Rhonda Stevens and husband, Ricky of Natchez and George Souderes III and wife, Cassie of Natchez; great-grandchildren, Julia Voss Stevens, Matthew Souderes, Leah Stevens, Richie Stevens and Robby Nolan; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be members of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary Parish, Cathedral School or a charity of choice.

Tommy Lee Isaac Jr.

July 28, 1975 - May 18, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Tommy Lee Isaac Jr., 28, of Dallas, Texas, who died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, will be at 10 a.m. today at Greater Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Beverly officiating.

Burial will be in St. Andrew AME Church cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.

Mr. Isaac was born icon July 28, 1975, in Natchez, the son of Tommy Lee Isaac Sr. and Brenda Payne Isaac.

He was educated at Bryant Adams High School of Dallas, was currently enrolled in music school and was a Baptist. He enjoyed singing, music and writing songs.

Mr. Isaac was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Emma Robinson; maternal grandfather, Robert Payne; one uncle, Jessie Williams.

Survivors include his father, Tommy Lee (Annette) Isaac Sr.; mother, Brenda Payne Isaac; one brother, Torrey Isaac and one step-sister, Tracy White, both of Mobile, Ala.; a special friend, Lakrystal Pace of Dallas; paternal grandfather, Oliver Isaac Sr. of Natchez; matenal grandmother, Hilda Payne of Ferriday, La.; five uncles, Oliver Isaac Jr. of Natchez, Willie Payne and Kenneth Payne of Dallas, Robert Payne of San Diego, Calif. and Stanley Payne of Columbus, Ohio; two aunts, Terri Stanfield of Monticello and Sadie Payne of Los Angeles, Calif.; one great-aunt, Canary Isaac of Natchez; four special cousins, Kimmie Isaac, Otis (Kendra) Isaac, Wayne Isaac and Terrell Isaac, all of Natchez; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

James Ellis Sr.

FAYETTE - Funeral services for James Ellis Sr., 57, of Fayette, who died Monday, May 17, 2004, at his residence in Fayette, will be today at 2 p.m. at the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

Tommy Lee Isaac Jr.

NATCHEZ - Funeral services for Tommy Lee Isaac Jr., 28, of Dallas, Texas, who died May 18, 2004 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Greater Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Natchez with the Rev. James Beverly officiating.

Burial will be at St. Andrew AME cemetery.

Visitation will be at 7 p.m. today. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
