NATCHEZ -- Services for Lillie V. Lias-Davenport, 63, of Natchez, who died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Wilderness Baptist Church with the Rev. Strickland officiating.

Burial will follow at Veterans Memorial cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lias-Davenport was born icon March 10, 1941, in Quinton, the daughter of Matthew L. Woods and Mary Woods.

She retired as cafeteria manager for the NATCHEZ - Adams County School District.

She was of the Baptist faith and was a mother of the church.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Survivors include her father; one sister, Gloria Woods; three brothers, Roosevelt Woods, Jimmy Winston and his wife, Mae, and Willie Woods; three daughters, Carolyn Lias-Hayes, Rozina Brown and Sharon Davenport; five sons, Allen Davenport and his wife, Dorris, Tom Lias and his wife, Cynthia, Leon Davenport and his wife, Bernadine, Mark Davenport and his wife, Ethel, and Rodney Davenport; 10 granddaughters, Sherri Lias, Valerie Hayes, Ashley Davenport, Mattie Tillman, Jazmine Robinson, Tanya Franklin, Farina Davenport, Valerie Gallia and her husband, Waldo, Andrea and Harvey, and Lawanda Davenport; five grandsons, Dexter Franklin, Micheal McMorris, Demond Hayes, Jaime Daigne and Chris Davis; four great-grandchildren, Rakem Campbell, Kendrell Franklin, Jiavani McMorris and Marcus Davis Jr.; a number of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends; and a special friend, Jerry Jenkins.

Tyke Franklin

FAYETTE - Funeral arrangements for Tyke Franklin, 70, of Fayette, who died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. today at Spencer Funeral Home of Fayette with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating.

Burial will be in Greenleaf Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 8 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Brenda Denise Stewart

Jan. 15, 1959 - May 16, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Brenda Denise Stewart, 45, of Natchez, who died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Fatherland Baptist Church with the Rev. James Lee officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Ms. Stewart was born icon Jan. 15, 1959, in Adams County, the daughter of Annie Lee Stewart and Elmo Stewart Sr.

She was a 1977 graduate of North Natchez High School and was a Baptist.

Ms. Stewart was preceded in death by her father, Elmo Stewart Sr.; grandmother, Luelle Bruster; two brothers, Richard Bruster and Henry Stewart.

Survivors include mother, Annie Stewart; three children, LaCalvice Stewart, KeSahundra Stewart and Tamika Stewart; one grandson, JaCorey Stewart; one sister, Terry (Mac) Washington of Minnesota; four brothers, Elmo (Daisy) Stewart Jr., Oliver (Lynette) Stewart and Mannie (Angie) Stewart, all of Natchez and Leo Stewart of Irving, Texas; a special friend, Ronnie Ridley; one aunt, Celia Coulston; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Williams Jr., Calvin Rollins, Ricky Evans, Herman Wade, Londell Granger, James Dean and Michael Rollins.

Herman Dorsey

May 2, 1931 - May 17, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Herman Dorsey, 73, of Natchez, who died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Promise Health and Rehab Center in Ferriday, La., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mackel's Chapel with the Rev. Melvin White officiating.

Burial will be in Forest Grove Church cemetery in Fayette under the direction of R. D. Mackel and Sons.

Visitation is from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Dorsey was born icon May 2, 1931, in Jefferson County, the son of Lucille Reed.

He was a retired painter and sheetrock finisher and was a Baptist.

Survivors include Justine McIntyre, who reared him; devoted companion, Birdie Jones, both of Natchez; a number of children; two sisters, Marie Bacon of Washington and Ella Mae Lowe of Fayette; step-children Elaine (Arthur) Thomas, Michael (Regina) Jones, Elijah (Stella) Jones, all of Natchez; six step-grandchildren, Shalita Newman, Brandi Jones, Michael Jones Jr., Davonna Jones and Javon Jones, all of Natchez and Marlon Jones of Memphis, Tenn.; two step-great-grandchildren, Marlon Jones Jr. and Tyran Newman of Natchez; three nieces, Mary Ann Parker, Rose Tyler and Mary Frances Bacon of Natchez; two nephews, Warrington Bacon and Albert Bacon of Natchez; one brother-in-law, Charlie Douglas of Natchez; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Mildred M. Slade

Jan. 18, 1910 - May 18, 2004

BROOKHAVEN - Services for Mildred M. Slade, 94, of Bogue Chitto, who died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. today at Community Funeral Services Chapel in Brookhaven.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Community Funeral Services.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Slade was born icon Jan. 18, 1910, in Copiah County, the daughter of John Conn and Elizabeth Mullins.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Slade was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Emmitt Slade; daughter, Dixie Starnes; and several siblings.

Survivors include daughters, Gladys Burns of Bogue Chitto and Gertha Lea White of Natchez; grandchildren, Elizabeth Wallace, Glenn Avants, David Avanst, Margie Huff, Michael White and Patrica Powell, all of Natchez; and a number of great and great-great-grandchildren.

Sargent "Papa" Bacon

Aug. 30, 1912 - May 19, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Sargent "Papa" Bacon, 91, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, will be at noon Saturday at Wilderness Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Strickland officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Bacon was born icon Aug. 30, 1912, the son of Laura Washington and Bennie Bacon.

He was a member and deacon at Wilderness Baptist Church.

Survivors include one sister, Sarah Tyler of Natchez; one step-daughter, Annie L. Bennett of Natchez; one grandson, Leon Davenport of Lake Providence, La.; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Nonerea D. Farmer

MEADVILLE - Services for Nonerea D. Farmer, 87, of McComb, who died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Camellia Estates in McComb, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Meadville.

Burial will be in Siloam Baptist Church cemetery in Meadville under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home.

She was a homemaker.

MEADVILLE - Services for Minnie Trusty Joseph, 93, of Meadville, who died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Meadville, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Meadville.

Burial will be in Ozion Baptist Church cemetery in Franklin County under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home.

She was a homemaker.

NATCHEZ -- Services for Albert Britt, 61, who died Friday, May 14, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, will be at 3 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Rev. Duey Dousay officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation is from 2 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Britt was born icon Sept. 30, 1942, in Natchez, the son of Alloy Britt Sr. and Elma Orene Case Britt.

Survivors include his daughter, Vivian Renshaw and her husband, Jeff, of Orlando, Fla.; his son, William Albert (Beau) Britt, and his wife, Allison, of Prairieville, La.; four grandchildren, Connor and Duncan Renshaw of Orlando, Fla., and Holden and Jacob Britt of Prairieville; two sisters, Mary Mooney of Vidalia, Helen Neal of Natchez; two brothers, John (Bill) Britt of Maryland and Buddy Britt of California; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Josie Kathrine Franks

Dec. 15, 1925 -- May 15, 2004

NATCHEZ -- Services for Josie Kathrine Franks, 78, who died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at DeSoto Baptist Hospital in Southaven, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Rev. Ray Holland officiating.

Burial will follow in the Riverside Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Franks was born icon Dec. 15, 1925, in Ouachita Parish, La., the daughter of James R. Striplin and Josie Striplin.

Survivors include two sons George H. Bove of Natchez and James R. Franks of Olive Branch; six grandchildren Christy Coats, Cindy Johnson, Jimmy Dean Franks, Anna Bove, April Bove and Jonathan H. Bove; six great grandchildren; two brothers Eddie Striplin of Lebanon, Mo., and Woodie Striplin of Philomath, Ore.; and two sisters Joyce Pittman of Odessa, Texas, and Daisy Jean Johnson of Valley Springs, Calif.

JoAnna Newborne

Feb. 19, 1945 - May 10, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for JoAnna Newborne, 59, of Natchez, who died Monday, May 10, 2004, in Jackson, will be at noon today at Zion Hill No. 1 Baptist Church with the Rev. James Washington officiating.

Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

The procession will leave at 11:20 a.m. today from 20 Davis Court.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Ms. Newborne was born icon Feb. 19, 1945, in Helena, Ark., the daughter of Bessie and Jacob Newborne Sr.

She was educated at Sadie V. Thompson High School, was employed with International Paper Company and was a member of Providence Baptist Church and the choir.

Survivors include a daughter, Anita Newborne of Natchez; a son, Rickey (Linda) Newborne of Madison; five sisters, Mary Newborne Thomas of Natchez, Dollie McGinister of Hickory Hill, Ill., Betty Washington of Chicago, Ill., Ernestine (Roosevelt) Sykes of Chicago and Sarah Fields of Oak Grove, La.; four grandchildren, Vas'Shun Newborne of Marianna, Fla., Bre'anna Newborne of Natchez, Ricky Jr. and Rikerric Newborne of Madison; honorary daughter, Alisa Banks of Natchez.

Pallbearers will be James Mitchell, George Minor, Keith Myles, Melvin Harris, Ralph Daniels, Dan William, Kelvin Jones and Roger Allen.
