RUSSUM - Services for Melvin L. Wells, 53, who died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 at River Regional Medical Center in Vicksburg, will be noon Saturday at Rose Hill Christian Church in Russum with the Rev. Isaac Henderson officiating, assisted by Elder Walter Chambers.
Burial will be in the East Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. of Port Gibson.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Survivors include three sons, Melvin Wells Jr. and Kenneth R. Jackson, both of Vicksburg, and Kendrick Shelvy of Natchez; three daughters, Carol Wells-Nichols of Vicksburg, Pamela Rankin-White and Trencia Johnson, both of Fayette; four brothers, Leonard Sanders, Eugene Wells, and Washington Wells, all of New Orleans, La., and Willie Wells Jr. of Lorman; sister, Bessie Jenkins of Port Gibson; four sisters-in-law, Catherine Wells of Fayette, Katie Wells and Barbara Wells, both of New Orleans, La., and Betty Wells of Lorman; two sons-in-law, Calvin Nichols of Vicksburg and Randell White of Fayette; nine grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Joe Hardin

NATCHEZ - Services for Joe Hardin, 84, of Natchez, who died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004 at Natchez Community Hospital will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin White officiating.
Burial will be in the National cemetery under direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Hardin was born
Feb. 12, 1920, in Adams County, the son of Rosie Taylor Hardin and David Hardin Sr.
He was retired from Papco Construction. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Lee Hardin; two daughters, Alice M. Berry of Detroit, Mich. and Lillie (Emanuel) Alford of Jackson; one son, Jeff (Gennett) Jones of Minneapolis, Minn.; five grandchildren, Brenda Beverly of Kuwait, Vanessa (Norris) King of Jackson, Schewanda Beverly of Natchez, Tina (Jammond) Miller of Jackson, Monique Beverly of Jackson; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Luvenia Hardin, Mary Hall and Lillian Hardin; brother-in-law, Harvey (Marvel) Shinell of St. Louis, Mo.; sister-in-law, Mary Hardin of Natchez; special nieces, Jenny Ruth Hardin of Natchez, Mary Ann Bailey of Jackson; special nephew, Charles Hardin of Pascagoula; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Monroe Jenkins

LORMAN - Services for Monroe Jenkins, 63, of Lorman, who died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at the Claiborne County Hospital, will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Waterloo Baptist Church in Lorman with the Rev. Leon Howard officiating.
Burial will be in the East Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 12:30 p.m. to service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Jenkins was born
Mar. 3, 1941, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of the late Prentiss Jenkins Sr. and Grace Issac Jenkins.
He was a bus driver for Alcorn State University for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Prentiss Jenkins Jr.
Survivors include a loving devoted wife, Juanita B. Jenkins of Red Lick; three daughters, LaWanda (William) McMiller of Red Lick, Kimberly Jenkins of Irvington, N.J., and Trina Jenkins of Jersey City, N.J.; three sons, Terrell and Sidney Randle, both of Chicago, Ill., and Monroe Terrell Jenkins of Jersey City, N.J.; three sisters, Gloria Jenkins, Lela Jenkins Moore, and Cherlerce Jenkins; two brothers, Charles Jenkins and Ronald Jenkins; two acquired children, Darren and Sharo Randle, both of Chicago, Ill.; one aunt; several nieces and nephews; special aunt, Kate L. Taylor; 27 grandchildren; and a host of cousins.
Pallbearers will be Alcorn State University Campus Police Department.
Honarary pallbearers will be Lamar A. Braxton, Robert Moore, Joseph Watts Jr., Wiley F. Jones, Isaiah Starks, Fred Thomas, and Clifton Gray.

FAYETTE - Services for Kennedy Jackson, 42, of Fayette, who died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004 at his residence, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hollywood Baptist Church with the Rev. E. E. Colenburg officiating.

Dorothy Eleanor Louise Mengis Grant

PORT GIBSON - Graveside services for Dorothy Eleanor Louise Mengis Grant, 93, of Sicily Island, La., who died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004 in Ferriday, La., will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Wintergreen cemetery with Msgr. Harkins officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Comer Funeral Home of Ferriday, La.
Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Grant was born
Apr. 6, 1911, in Belize, British Honduras, the daughter of the late Dr. Christopher L. Mengis and Elizabeth W. Mengis.
She was a resident of Sicily Island since 1960 and was of the Catholic faith. She taught art at the high school and college level, and also in private workshops. She was one of the original faculty members of Quachita Junior College (now ULM.) She was a member of the La. Watercolor Society, the Natchez Art Guild and many other art associations throughout La., Miss., and Ala.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Graves Jacques Grant Sr.; son, Patrick S. Grant; brother, Dr. Chris Mengis; and sister Betty Shattuck.
Survivors include a son, Jacques Grant of Sicily Island, La.; brother, Warren L. Mengis of Baton Rouge, La.; sister, Peggy Duplantier of New Orleans, La.; two grandchildren, Jessica Grant of New York and Danny Grant of Tuscaloosa, Ala.
James Ronald Seyfarth
Aug. 5, 1946 - April 23, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for James Ronald Seyfarth, 57, of Natchez, who died Friday, April 23, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, were held Monday, April 26, 2004, at 11 a.m. from Calvary Baptist Church where the Rev. Mike Harrigill officiated.
Burial followed at Natchez National cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church.
Mr. Seyfarth was born
Aug. 5, 1946, in Natchez, the son of Thomas A. and Ruth Thornton Seyfarth.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mr. Seyfarth was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Anderson Seyfarth; mother, Ruth Thornton Seyfarth Mauldin; and a brother, Tommy Seyfarth.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn R. Seyfarth of Natchez; two sons, Brian Seyfarth and Brad Seyfarth and his wife, Miranda, all of Natchez; one daughter, Belinda Ibarra and her husband, Gabriel of Natchez; five grandchildren, Christopher Houghton, Kristina Seyfarth, Dawson Seyfarth, Dylan Ibarra and Maria Dawson; step-father, W. E. "Red" Mauldin and his wife, Lillian; four brothers, Roger Seyfarth and his wife Rita of Jackson, Ray Seyfarth and his wife, Phyllis of Hattiesburg, Henry Mauldin and his wife, Willie of Ellisville and Larry Wheat and his wife, Nicole of Baton Rouge, La.; six sisters, Carolyn Causey and her husband, Nelson of Meadville, Barbara Stein and her husband, Bill of Natchez, Diane Butler and her husband, Bruce of Jackson, Roxie Brown of Sugarland, Texas, Patricia Boyd and her husband, Billy of Monterey, La. and Sandra Spiess and her husband, David of Baker, La.

Mr. Johnson was born
Mar. 14, 1955, in Natchez, the son of the late Frank and Lurlene Elerby Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include four brothers, Lionel Johnson, Melvin Johnson, both of Mobile, Ala., Wilsonni (Marie) Johnson, Russell (Trina) Johnson, all of Natchez; five sisters, Rose (Acey) Cameron of Oakridge, Tenn., Mary (Ken) Kennet of Canogo Park, Calif., Teletha Johnson of Memphis, Tenn., Betty (Paul) Johnson, and Veronica (Anthony) Lewis, all of Natchez; one uncle, Henry Elerby of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Homa L. Murray

NATCHEZ - Services for Homa L. Murray, 85, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2004 at Natchez Community Hospital, will be 11 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel .
Burial will be in the Columbia City cemetery in Columbia under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Murray was born
July 11, 1919, in New Hebron, the son of the late Wallace Murray and Alice Polk Murray.
He was enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corp in 1942 and served in World War II and Viet Nam. He received numerous medals throughout his military career. He retired from the U. S. Marine Corp as Master Gunnery Sergeant in 1971.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Ouida Talbert Murray.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Murray of Natchez; children, Joel D. (Kaye) Murray of Atoka, Tenn., Larry W. (Karen) Murray of Memphis, Tenn., Sherra (Peter) Arnold of Natchez, Gwen Hardy of Jacksonville, Fla., and Kenn (Mary Ann) Hardy of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Curtis King, Bob Gardner, Eric Williams, John Burns, Pat Talbert, and James Schuchs.
Bethia "Bettie" Green Brasfield

NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Bethia "Bettie" Green Brasfield, 89, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004 at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Very Rev. Zabron A. Davis III officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mrs. Brasfield was born
May 18, 1915, in New York City, the daughter of the late Anne Young Green and John Taylor Green.
She attended Stuart Hall in Stanton, Va. and later graduated from Natchez High School. She received a BA degree from Louisiana State University in English. She was a legal secretary in Natchez for many years and also served as Chancery Court Administrator for five Adams/Jefferson County Chancery Court Judges, until her retirement.
She was a life long Episcopalian and member of St. Cecelia Group.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert G. Brasfield; one brother, Waller Overton Green.
Survivors include a brother, John Taylor Green Jr. of Natchez; niece, Ann Green Carver of Raleigh, N. C.; and many cousins in the Carpenter and Feltus families.
The family request, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
Sally Regenia Wallace Etheridge
BYRAM - Services for Sally Regenia Wallace Etheridge, 55, of Jackson, who died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, in Franklin County, will be 2 p.m. today at Apostolic Faith Church.
Burial will be in the Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery in Franklin County.
