CHURCH HILL - Services for Rogers Adams Jr., 93, of Natchez, who died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Jefferson Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Anthony Colenberg officiating.

Burial will be in the Daughter of Zion Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with special Masonic services from 7 to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

Mr. Adams was born icon Jan. 11, 1911, in Jefferson County, the son of the late Rogers Adams Sr. and Vivian Adams. He was formerly employed with Johns-Mansville. He was a member of Cloverhill Masonic Lodge No. 13, L.F.&C.; Society, and MBPFB Society.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Thomas, Ruth Ann Rice and husband, Andrew, all of Chicago, Ill., and Annie Mae Swazy of Natchez; five sons, Rogers Adams and wife, Augustine, Caesar Adams and wife, Carrie, all of Natchez, Lawrence Adams and wife, Vera, Clarence Adams and wife, Gloria, all of Jackson, and Charles Adams and wife, Rita, of Chicago, Ill.; three stepsons, Mack Williams and wife, Ruby, of Chicago, Ill., James "Bell" Williams and wife, Doris, and Nelson Dyson Jr. and wife, Alice, all of Natchez; adopted daughter, Maranda Woods and husband, Arthur, of Natchez; two sisters-in-law; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends,

Louis Edward Calhoun Sr.

Aug. 15, 1939 - Dec. 29, 2004

NATCHEZ - Services for Louis Edward Calhoun Sr., 65, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at his residence, will be 10 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. David McGuffee officiating.

Burial will be in the Calhoun Family cemetery in Wildsville, La. under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Calhoun was born icon Aug. 15, 1939, in Natchez, the son of the late Oscar Willard Calhoun Sr. and Verna Evans Calhoun. He was a member of Cloverdale Baptist Church. He was the former Humane Officer for the City of Natchez and formerly owned Calhoun's Used Tires.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Calhoun and O. W. Calhoun Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Calhoun of Natchez; sons, Louis Calhoun Jr. and Jimmy Calhoun, both of Natchez; daughters, Tammy Ford of Harrisville, Jamie Courtney of Florence, and Kimbery Calhoun Neal of Natchez; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Rodney B. Calhoun, Jimmy Calhoun, Skid Ford, Danny Pilcher, Ricky Smith, and Phil Knoll.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Lee Jones and Jack Everhart.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to American Cancer Society.

Wilda Hancock Cothren

Aug. 28, 1923 - Dec. 30, 2004

MEADVILLE - Services for Wilda Hancock Cothren, 81, of Meadville, who died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Meadville, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will be in the Middleton Creek Church cemetery in Meadville under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Joshua Ellis Jr.

Aug. 15, 1921 - Jan. 4, 2005

NATCHEZ - Services for Joshua Ellis Jr., 83, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at China Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Leroy White officiating.

Burial will be in the Natchez National cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation is from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Mr. Ellis was born icon Aug. 15, 1921, in Adams County, the son of the late Joshua Ellis Sr. and Corine Dunmore Ellis. he was educated in the Adams County School System and was a member of China Grove Baptist Church. He was a retired operator with the Johns Mansville Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Ellis; and sister, Ruby Montgomery.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthis Ellis of Ferriday, La.; two sons, Michelle Williams of New Orleans, La. and Tavi Carter of Natchez; two sisters, Ella Jackson and Catherine Ellis, both of Natchez; grandchildren, Xavier Ellis, Ariana Johnson, Naterra Johnson, all of Ferriday, Darrius Owens, Crystal Martin, Jakaleen Perry, all of Natchez, and Sherika Hayes of Baton Rouge, La.; sister-in-law, Alicia Ellis of Natchez; friends, Tommie Davis Jr. of Natchez; Myray Dinelli of Detroit, Mich.; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family and deacons.

Myrtle Fuller

NATCHEZ - Services for Myrtle Fuller, 90, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be today at Laird Funeral Home's Union Street chapel with the Rev. Ron Ledford officiating.

Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Fuller was born icon Sept. 8, 1911, in Brookhaven, the daughter of Henry and Mattie Wilson Farmer. She was a member of the Eastern Star, VFW and Fellowship Baptist Church in Greenwell Springs, La.

She was preceded in death by her husband A.J. Fuller in1965.

Survivors include d two children, Carrol "J.C" Fuller and wife Brenda of Denham Springs, La., and Geraldine Byrd and husband Forrest of Vidalia, La.; three sisters; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gary Byrd, Mike Byrd, Jerry Deville, Jimmy Fuller, Rick Fuller and Trey Fuller.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Johnny Floyd Ingram

NATCHEZ - Services for Johnny Floyd Ingram, 68, of Natchez, who died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. today at County Line Baptist Church cemetery in Crystal Springs under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Ingram was born icon Jan. 13, 1936, in Utica, the son of Horace C. Ingram and Alma Euberta Stewart Ingram.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandy Sue Ingram, brothers Allen Ray Ingram and James Clifton "J.C." Ingram, and grandchildren Jason Dwight Schrock and Angelina Schrock.

Survivors inlucde his wife, Agnes Marie Furlow Ingram; four daughters, Cindy Waddell and husband Terry of Natchez, Tina Delaughter and husband Johnny of Natchez, Kay Warnock and husband Jimmy of Natchez and Robin I. Smith of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, John Wayne "J.W." Waddell and wife Mandy of Virginia, Dawn C. Whittington and husband Derek of Natchez, Johnny Delaughter Jr. and fiancée Barbara Collier of Natchez, Christina Delaughter and fiancé Donnie Babb of Natchez, Jennifer Delaughter and friend Daryl Hite of Natchez, Rebecca Warnock of Natchez, Jessica Warnock of Natchez; four expected great-grandchildren due in 2005; and a number of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and other family.

Dr. Dewey M. Metts Jr.

April 1, 1921 - Jan. 5, 2005

OCEAN SPRINGS - Services for Dr. Dewey M. Metts Jr., 83, of Natchez, formerly of Ocean Springs, who died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be 2:30 p.m. today at Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home of Ocean Springs.

Visitation is from 1:30 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Dr. Metts was born icon April 1, 1921 in Flora. He graduated from high school in Oxford in 1938 and attended Copiah-Lincoln Jr. College in Wesson from 1938-1940 where he played football. He then enrolled in Mississippi College where he also played football. He attended the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry and received his degree from there in 1950. After he received his DDS degree, he engaged in private practice until 1954.

In November of 1940, Dr. Metts went on active duty with the Mississippi National Guard as a Private. He was promoted to Platoon Sergeant within three months. He was transferred to Army Air Corp Flight Training in October 1941. He won his Pilot's Wings and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 1942. At the time of his commission he was the youngest flight officer in the United States Army Air Corp. His first assignment was a flight instructor. After nine months he was selected to be a staff pilot for the Army Air Corp Training Command. His duties involved flying high-ranking civilians and military officers to various Army and civilian training bases in the United States. By the time WWII had ended he had completed combat crew training as a B-29 pilot and flight leader. He was separated from the military in November 1945. He returned to school in January 1946.

He then reentered service as a U. S. Air Force Dental Officer. In 1957 the Air Force selected him for advanced training at New York University College of Dentistry. After completing one year of didactic study, he was assigned to Confederate Memorial Hospital in Shreveport, La. for two years of Oral Surgery Residency. After completing his Oral Surgery training, he served as Chief Consultant for Oral Surgery Affairs, United States Armed Services, Southeast Asia, and later as Oral Surgery Consultant for the United States Air Force, Southeast United States. In addition, Dr. Metts has been Chief of Oral Surgery at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Ala., and Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi. He was also the Training Officer, Oral Surgery Department, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Metts' military awards include the Presidential Unit Citation, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Honor Medal First Class, and Legion of Merit. During his time in the military service, Dr. Metts served as Dental Surgeon, Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Saigon RVN. He was Consultant to South Vietnamese Armed Services for Oral Surgery Affairs. He lectured at the Dental School, University of Manila. He also presented a series of lectures to the Asian Stomatological Society, Tokyo, Japan. He retired on April 1, 1972.

Dr. Metts has served on the Executive Committee of two hospitals on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and was president of the hospital staff at Howard Memorial Hospital in Biloxi for two years. He was a member of the American Dental Association, the American Society of Oral Surgeons, a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, and a member of the American Association of Oral Surgeons. He served as President of the Mississippi Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He retired at the end of 1995 in Ocean Springs and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs.

Dr. Metts was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Metts; daughter, Sherrie Metts; son, Dewey M. Metts III; and his parents, Rev. Dewey M. Metts Sr. and Jeannette Denson Metts.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Metts of Natchez; son, Charlie Metts and wife, Belinda, of Houston, Texas; sister, Ouida Merrill of Ridgeland; and three grandchildren, Laney Metts, Spencer Metts, and Lillian Metts, all of Houston, Texas.

Odessa Ross Fleming

July 8, 1940 - Jan. 5, 2005

NATCHEZ - Services for Odessa Ross-Fleming, 64, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Zion Hill No. 4 Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Greene officiating.

Burial will be in the Carthage Pointe cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church.

Mrs. Fleming was born icon July 8, 1940, in Adams County, the daughter of Love and Nellie Ross. She attended Sadie V. Thompson High School and was a business owner and housewife. She was a choir member and a member of Forest Aide Baptist Church Missionary Club.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include her husband, Albert Fleming; seven daughters, Debra Harris of Dallas, Texas, Vera Johnson, Patricia Johnson, Annette Johnson, Gladys Johnson, Gena Ross, all of Natchez, and Shirley Fleming of Fayette; son, Michael Ross and wife, Leah, of Seattle, Wash.; sister, Ida B. Johnson and husband, Elijah,; brother, Willie Ross and wife, Lilly, of Chicago, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; godmother, Rebecca Brooks; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Lee Scott, Charles Scott, Jimmy Johnson Jr., Elijah Johnson Jr., Johnathan Johnson, Lester Johnson, Maurice Johnson, and Demetrius Clark.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.

Mary Lee Mulkey Shell

June 18, 1914 - Jan. 7, 2005

MEADVILLE - Services for Mary Lee Mulkey Shell, 90, of Roxie, who died Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, at her home, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home of Meadville.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from noon until service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Shell was born icon June 18, 1914 in Franklin County. She was a member of Roxie Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include a brother, Jerry Mulkey of Leesdale; sister, Stella Caine of Mize; a host of nieces, nephews, and also close friends from the Franklin Shell Hunting Club, which was founded by her husband, Kirby Shell.

Morris Ray Sullivan

March 25, 1933 - Jan. 5, 2005

FRANKLIN COUNTY - Services for Morris Ray Sullivan, 71, of Meadville, who died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Southwest Medical Center in McComb, will be 11 a.m. today at Oak Grove Methodist Church.

Burial will be in the Sullivan Family cemetery in Franklin County under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home of Meadville.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.
