Mr. William “Jiddy” Turner, Sr. was born icon on October 31, 1945 to the late Rosie Wilson Turner and William Tom Turner in Warren County, Mississippi. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant Hill, but he later moved his membership to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend James Edwards where he remained a faithful member until his health failed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Tom Turner and Rosie Wilson Turner; three brothers, Calvin Turner, Leroy Miller and Edmond Turner and one sister, Dorothy Smith.

He leaves to mourn his passing, a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Joann Turner; two daughters, Valerie Turner and Sarah Turner both of Vicksburg, Mississippi; one son, William (Wendy) Turner, Jr. of Yucapia, California; three sisters, Hattie (James) Liggins and Cannolla Benard both of Vicksburg, Mississippi; five brothers, Charles Turner of Jackson, Mississippi, Burrell Turner, Ronald Turner, Donald Turner all of Vicksburg, Mississippi and John H. (Loraine) Turner of Chicago, Illinois; an aunt, Margaret Flowers of Vicksburg, Mississippi; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends including a special cousin, Peter (Junebug) Flowers and a close friend, Joe Truitt.

Johnny E. Gatson, also known to many in the town of Pickens, Mississippi as Herbert, where he grew up as a child and into adulthood was born icon May 9, 1956. He is the son of Mollie L. Harris and the step-son of Anthony (Popeye) Harris. Mollie and Anthony preceded him in death.

Early, in life Johnny found a passion for music, he enjoyed singing as well as listening to music. Although he never played a musical instrument, his love for music never wavered. Growing up in Pickens, there were many opportunities that allowed him to express his love in music from the church choir, to quartet, as well as individual events.

Johnny is a 1974 graduate from Durant Attendance Center and a 1978 graduate of Alcorn State University his beloved alma mater. He entered military services in 1979 and served until 2001. The experiences in the military allowed him to visit and see places beyond expectation.

He enjoyed his career as a teacher in Holmes (WSHS) and Madison (CPS) County in addition he held a part-time position with the Holmes Humphries Regional Correctional Facility (HHRCF), and his career in law enforcement includes Canton Police Department and the Warren County Sheriff Department.

While living in California God became an important part of his life; it was here he learned to “Develop a Personal Relationship with God” as well as know God was his source. As a Praise and Worship leader and a Deacon of the church Johnny saw not only the internal working of the church but the internal working of God through him to help others develop that same Personal Relationship with God.

In March of 1980, Johnny married icon his first love Charlotte Robinson (who preceded him in death in 2011) and to this union two children were born; ShaWanda L. (Mike) Jacome and Chantal P. Gatson (Micheal E. Fuller II) and one grandson Mateo Jacome. In the midst of the rain, Johnny was blessed yet again to meet his second love, Deborah (Lee) Gatson married icon in December 2014 and enjoyed car rides, music, laughter and lots of love with her.

In addition he leaves to celebrate his memories one brother James Gatson of Maywood, Illinois; two step-sisters, Lee Doris Crayton, and Vonette Anderson both of Pickens, Mississippi; six step children; Tracie Davenport (Fred), Catrinia Lee, Mathis Lee(Mandy), Jamal Lee(Ronda) Victoria Mitchell (Brent) and Jacquelyn Nunnally; several aunts, 15 step grandchildren, nephews, nieces a host of cousins, and friends.

We may never hear his voice again, but you can rest assuredly that He’s is saying,

“When God is your source you don’t have anything to worry about.”

BERNETHA MAE SHY KILLIAN (Baby Sister , Queen B) left this life on March 9, 2015, surrounded by her Family and friends, she was 84 years old. Mrs. Bernetha Killian was born icon on March 6, 1931, to the late Ollie Shy and the late Minnie Leola Campbell. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist Church at the tender age of 12, where she sang in the choir until 2014. She graduated from Bowman School.

In addition to her passing Mrs. Bernetha was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Issac Killian, her brothers, Harvey Willie Bracelet, Ollie Shy, Jr., Lieutenant Shy, Robert H. Shy, and her sister Joe Willie Brown; two sons Robert E. Shy and Issac Killian Jr., grandson Ruther (Peanut) Turner, granddaughter Shannon Smith and a great granddaughter Starkeisha Smith; and Charlie Lewis. She was a member of the following organizations Christian Church Union #1, Christian Home Society #15 & #24, Brother and Sister of Zion #1 and was a loyal member of the 4-H Club.

Mrs. Bernetha Killian leaves to cherish her memories one son John Shy (Linda), three daughters Gwendolyn (Joe) Patterson, Carolyn (Charlie) Tubbs, and Mary Turner (McKinley Williams), God-daughter Gloria Chin all of

Vicksburg, MS. Two sisters Bessie Jamison of Indianapolis, IN, Odesta (John D.) Campbell of Chicago, IL, two brothers James Kelly and Lewis Davis; other family members to include the McGee Family of Cleveland MS, Alma Jean Henderson of New Orleans; and the Lewis family of Bessemer and Demopolis, Alabama.

Twenty-three grandchildren: Robert Williams, Willie Williams, Tanya Shy, Angela Rankin, Latanya Shy, Kenneth Killian, Ratanya Williams, Antonio Tubbs, George Moore II, Bernetha Turner, Roslynn Buck, Charlie Tubbs III,

Minikka Moore, Charvonda Tubbs, Robert Berry, Sherika Moore, Robyn Royster, Henry Ross, Henry Shy, Terrell Shy, Jessica Berry, Danielle Chin, and Darrell Jordan. 66 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren and

a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

All of the loving and cherished memories will forever remain in our hearts and minds. She will be greatly missed!

On a beautiful summer day, August 1, 1938, Marguerite Matthew was born. She was the youngest of two children born icon to the union of Saul Matthew and Maggie Robinson.

One day while on leave from the United States Navy, Mack saw the woman who would capture his heart forever. Their friendship, love and romance lasted 56 years, and from this union four beautiful children were born: Gretchen, Veronica, Bobby and BeNita. Marguerite was so proud to become a grandmother and was delighted to take on the role of mother to her first born icon granddaughter, KiChawn and eight years later Sheridan. She was the neighborhood mother to most who affectionately referred to her as "Big Momma", including her two god-children, Karla and Devon McPherson.

At an early age, Marguerite accepted Christ, was baptized in the name of Jesus and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She was very active in church as a Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School teacher, member of the Usher board, Musician and radio announcer for New Jerusalem Church and Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Morgan Park, Chicago.

After 37 years in Chicago, the Parkers' relocated to Vicksburg, Mississippi and became members of Triumph Church of Vicksburg for 19 years.

On Saturday, March 7, 2015, at 1:50 a.m., Marguerite made her sweet heavenly transition to be with the Lord. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Mack Parker, Jr.; three daughters, Gretchen A. Parker-Woods (Everett), Veronica Parker-Davis and BeNita Parker-Owens (Craig); one son, Bobby Parker (Kimberly); one step-son, Vernell Bass; two granddaughters that she considered daughters, Ki'Chawn T. Parker and Sheridan R. Vaughan (Larry); ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nieces, Lynette Rucker and Jeannette Rucker; one brother-in-law, Malcolm (Doretha) of Chicago, Illinois; three sisters-in-law, Eleanor Chambers of Chicago, Illinois, Lula Tate of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Rosia Rozier of Chicago, Illinois; two play sisters, Dr. Mary McPherson of Chicago, Illinois and Thelma Wells of Virginia; four god-children, Dr. Kimberly and Dr Michael Winters, Abe and Phyllis Wesley and a host of other family members and friends.

Marguerite now joins her heavenly host of family that preceded her in death including her brother, James Matthew; mother, Maggie Robinson and father, Saul Matthew.

Laverne W. Williams was born icon August 14, 1957 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Ulysses S. Johnson, Jr. and the late Pearline Johnson. She was commonly called “Von” by her family and friends.

She accepted Christ and was baptized at Travis Chapel AME Church where she was a faithful and dedicated member. She served as a Trustee, Director of the children’s choir, soloist, usher secretary and a member of the Missionary Society. She attended Warren Central High School and Hinds Community College and graduated to later having a career as a financial counselor at River Region Medical Center and Vicksburg Clinic.

Laverne was a loyal and devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was generous to a fault and always willing to assist wherever needed. She was loving, caring and dedicated to her family and church. She owned and operated Sunshine Food Specialty.

She departed this life on Saturday, March 7 at the Baptist Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pearline Johnson; maternal grandparents, Arthur and Francis Williams; paternal grandparents, Ulysses S. Johnson, Sr. and Roberta Poa Johnson; god-brother, Michael Antonio Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Douglas Williams of Vicksburg, Mississippi; her four children, Yakima “Kim” (Bryant) Williams, Joseph “Sam” (Monica) Watson, Derrick Watson, Tabitha Watson all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; two stepdaughters, Renita Lane and Tammy Eakins both of Meridian, Mississippi; fourteen grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three very special cousins, Annette Marks, Vernica Henry and Tina Bunch; special friends, Claudette Reed, Shawn Sims, Serise Rooks and Michael Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends including the Williams, Valentine, Bunch, Thomas and Johnson families.

Ms. Janice M. Thomas

Janice Maria Thomas was born icon on April 15, 1959 to the late Eddie and Fannie Thomas. Janice was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred L. Brown. She received her early education in the Lincoln Public Schools, graduating in 1977. She continued her education at Minneapolis Community College where she graduated with an Associate of Arts degree.

Janice departed this life on March 3, 2015. She was a member of the Starkville Church of Christ in Starkville, MS. She enjoyed reading and studying the word, as well as crocheting blankets and other items for friends and loved ones. Janice found comfort by relaxing on beaches and lakes, as well as spending time with her daughters and grandsons. She had a love for helping people, which was exhibited through her time as a nurse’s aide. She also enjoyed working with adults and seniors with special needs and Alzheimer.

Janice’s life of kindness and generosity will be remembered by her devoted daughters, Marchella (Christopher) Bobo of Vicksburg, MS, and Janell Thomas of Starkville, MS; one brother, Eddie Thomas of Lincoln, NE; three sisters, Maggie Burton of White Plains, MD, Kathleen (Royale) Cravens of Lincoln, NE and Dean Jackson of Omaha, NE; two grandsons, Jayden Thomas of Starkville, MS and Christopher C. Bobo, Jr. of Vicksburg, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and good friends.

Beulah Mae (Boo Mae) McGill was born icon on May 26, 1957 in Jackson, Mississippi. She was the seventh child born icon to Willie McGill. Boo Mae, as she was fondly known by, was born icon with special needs. She attended Mary Morrison School and graduated from Jackson Public Schools in 1978.

Beulah attended Virden Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was baptized by Reverend William A. Wheeler, Jr. Everyone who knew her loved her. When she was a little girl you would often see her walking with her grandmother to church or just to visit someone in the neighborhood. She loved people and she loved to go visiting.

Beulah was very bossy. You might say it was her way or the highway. She had three younger sisters that could vouch to that. In June of 2006, when her mother passed away, Beulah moved in with Jannette, one of her younger sisters. Jan became her voice along with her husband Milton and their children. She often had help from her other sisters from time to time.

On February 25th, the Lord called Boo Mae home to join her mama, Willie B. McGill, her grandmother, Cora B. Bell, her sister, Robbie Ann and her niece Keeshia. She is at peace.

Beulah leaves behind to cherish her memories: three brothers, Willie (Iona) Greenfield of Chicago, Illinois, Samuel (Cozy) McGill of Newport News, Virginia and Burton (Virginia) McGill of Raleigh, North Carolina; five sisters, Johnnie Giles of Chicago, Illinois, Rita (James) Young, Gwen (Milton) Paige, Annette (Jessie) Giles and Jannette (Milton) White of Jackson, Mississippi; four special sisters, Gwen, Susan, Yolanda and Latonya Brinston of Jackson, Mississippi and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dianne Denise was born icon to the late Willie Nicholson and Velma Nicholson in Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 18, 1960. Dianne is the third child of four siblings.

Dianne will surely be missed by her family, friends, and neighbors, as she was always smiling and always, always making others laugh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Nicholson and Velma Nicholson; maternal grandparents, Edward and Jesse Brooks.

Survivors who will forever cherish her memories are two daughters, Tonya Brooks and Jasmine Hicks of Vicksburg; two sons, Charles Brooks and Kevin Brooks of Vicksburg; three sisters, Terri Brooks and Vivian Brooks of Vicksburg, and Jacqueline (Willie) Ford of Sauk Village, IL; two brothers, Doff Nicholson of Vicksburg and Willie (Renee) Nicholson, Jr. of San Francisco, CA; nine grandchildren, Sharnecius Jenkins of Columburs, Georgia, Shantavious Jones of Port Gibson, Mississippi, KeiAvery Brooks, Keonna Conner, Shakendrius Tyler, Christopher Brooks, Charles Brooks, Jr., Kedereon Buck and Navia Brooks all of Vicksburg; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends including Christine Davis, Eva Bracey, Frances Dixon, Patricia Anderson, Renett Williams, Melba Houston, Eddie Lee Bryant, and the McDaniel and Stewart families of Vicksburg.

Mabel "Judge" Fisher-Peterson was born icon November 2, 1924 in Warren County, Mississippi to the late Membsy and Maggie Winston Fisher Hall. As she lived, Mabel never met a stranger. She was always kind and friendly to all she met. She was always kind and friendly to all she met.

Mabel accepted Christ early in life and united with Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and later united with Jackson Street Baptist Church in 1959 and remained a faithful choir member, member of the Board of Trustees and kitchen ministry leader until her health failed.

She enjoyed serving and being in service to others and during her lifetime belonged to many organizations including the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Woman's Club, the Eastern Star, Eureka Temple, Vicksburg Homecoming Benevolent Club and AARP Local Chapter 4967.

Mabel was preceded in death by: her parents, Membsy and Maggie Winston Fisher Hall; step father Aaron Hall; husband, Fred Douglas Peterson; six brothers, C. J. Fisher, Horace Fisher, James Fisher, George Fisher, Frank Fisher and Membsy Fisher; two sisters, Maggie Lee Fisher Otis and Ruby Walton; and two sisters-in-law, Clara Fisher and Dorothy Fisher.

She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Dennis Roy (Dorothy) Holmes of Vicksburg, Mississippi; one daughter, Robbie Jean Holmes Ware of Vicksburg, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Barrett (Fatmata) Ware of Washington, D.C, Dennis (Johnnie B.) Ware of Lancaster, Texas and Tracy Holmes of Austin, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Denys, Dennis, II, Adia, and Aris Ware; four god-children, Paula (Doug) Taylor, Beverely (Kevin) Ford-Brown, Tammy Neal and Anderson White, III; two sisters-in-law, Sherry Fisher and Maggie Fisher; extended family including the Ceola James, The Strong, Walton, McWilliams, Winston, Wilson, Fuller and Dranton families; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends including the Jackson family and a special niece, Bessie Otis.
