Daven Anderson Murphy was born
on February 5, 1978, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Otha “Buck” Murphy and Zelmarine Anderson Murphy. Daven’s birth was to the delight of his Dad who was excited about having three sons! Further, he was a precious joy to his grandparents, “Popee” and “Meme.”
On Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at River Region Medical Center, Daven transitioned surrounded by his family.
Daven possessed many warm, endearing attributes. Regardless of how he felt, Daven always exhibited polite and courteous behavior. For kindnesses extended to him, his responses were always, “THANK YOU, ” “PLEASE, ” and “EXCUSE ME!” He was a delightful young man who possessed a smile that would warm the hearts of everyone he encountered. This attribute allowed him to have numerous friends.
He was a product of the Vicksburg Warren School District. He began his educational pursuits at Halls Ferry Elementary School and exited the District as a 1996 graduate of Warren Central High School. He furthered his education at Hinds Community College. Following the family tradition, Daven applied and was accepted to Alcorn State University (ASU) where he would become an ASU BRAVE! His illness prevented him from fully enrolling in the University.
With a deep abiding faith, Daven is a sixth-generation family member to attend Triumphant Baptist Church. He was baptized in August 1987 and he was actively involved in the church’s youth activities. Daven loved his aunt who deeply loved him in return. Because of the individual attention that his Aunt Pat Segrest gave him, Daven thought she could do any and everything! After her transition, he thoroughly expected his cousin Pam “Pammy” Segrest to continue to do all the fun things and to pay her long standing debt of $20 (that she owed him)!
His brothers, Otha and Starling, were his special heroes. With their distinctive personalities, each brother inspired Daven. Otha was the soft spoken one, who Daven could easily bribe and manipulate make him do whatever he wanted, but Starling was the brother who reminded him that his name was “MURPHY” which exemplified strength and endurance.
Daven was preceded in death by father, Otha “Buck” Murphy; his maternal grandparents, Zellner and Hazel Brown Anderson; paternal grandparents, Otha and Annie Mims Murphy; and his aunt, Patricia Anderson Segrest.
As Daven takes his rest in Heaven, we know the menu will now include mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, chocolate cake, and chocolate chip cookies.
