Shirley “Jean” McDaniel was born icon on January 26, 1961 to the late L.C. Wilson and Mary Marshall in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She was the fifth child of seven siblings.

Ms. McDaniel accepted Christ at an early age and later joined King David #2 Church. She attended Warren County Public Schools. She was employed at several nursing homes in the area, and Ameristar Casino.

She enjoyed her life! She enjoyed dancing, cooking, working word puzzles, spending time with her family; and most of all, she loved children (plenty of godchildren).

She is preceded in death by her father, L. C. Wilson; uncle, Jessie Smith; cousin, Rose Gibbs; paternal grandmother, Mary Wilson, aunt, Rosie Wilson; step father, Julius Marshall; maternal grandmother, Olivia Stewart; uncles, George Stewart and Tim Stewart; cousin, Kenneth Stewart; maternal grandfather, Joseph Stewart; and great aunt, Arcensia Pierce.

She leaves to mourn her passing: daughter, Daquilla McDaniel; grandson; Carlos Smith, Jr.; mother, Mary Marshall of Vicksburg, Mississippi; five sisters, Lula Mae McDaniel, Theresa Ann McDaniel Williams, Kellee Marshall, (Vicksburg, MS) and Bettye McDaniel (Memphis, TN) and Martha Pearl Lockhart(Baton Rouge, LA); three brothers, Billy Ray (Elaine) McDaniel (Long Beach, CA) and Charles (Valerie) McDaniel (Memphis, TN) and Oatis Lee (Port Gibson, MS); two aunts, Dorothy Stewart (Vicksburg, MS), Carrie (Johnnie Lee) Miller (Utica, MS); three uncles; Phillip Stewart (Vicksburg, MS), Clifton (Rosalyn) Stewart and Bill (Jenneffe) Stewart (Saginaw, I); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins from Missouri, Texas, California, Michigan, Wisconsin; the Gray family; god-daughter, Jada Carter and special friend, Christopher Smith. step-sister, Martha Pearl Lockhart of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; step-brother, Otis Lee of Port Gibson, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including Christopher Smith of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Mrs. Shirley Thomas was born icon to the late Mary Chandler on August 29, 1963 in Tutwiler, Mississippi. She later moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi, where she met and married icon James Thomas, the love of her life.

She was a member of the China Grove Baptist Church. She departed this life on Sunday, January 20, 2013.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, James Thomas, of Vicksburg, Mississippi; eleven daughters, Tamekia (Shermon) Stampley, Latrice (Amos) Nixon, Shalesha Thomas, Tynesha Thomas, and Monica Lindsey of Vicksburg, Mississippi, LaQueda Lindsey of Port Gibson, Mississippi, Brittany Carter of Lucedale, Mississippi, Makendra May of Jackson, Mississippi, Charnelle Butler of Yazoo, Mississippi, Alison Griffen and Chunceia Buckhalter of Jackson, Mississippi; two sisters, Rebecca Riley of Newport, Virginia and Mary Walker of Vicksburg, Mississippi; five brothers, James Walker, Jimmy Walker, Johnny (Rudella) Walker, J.D. Doris Huell Stewart was born icon July 19, 1958 in Vicksburg, MS to the late Bennie Huell and Senola Palmer Huell. She attended North Vicksburg High School.

She accepted Christ at an early age at Traveler’s Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Doris was united in holy matrimony to the late Leon Stewart for 37 years as they explored the world through the military. She was a dedicated wife and mother, who always had in her hand new books and the biggest cup of hot tea. When books went to electronic copies, she didn’t buy into the hype…she always said “nothing beats the smell of a new book.” She also enjoyed any and everything related to angels to go with her favorite color, purple. You were sure to find an angel figurine decorating her house or one attached to her purse and jacket. Nothing made her more happy than spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Ma and Grammie Do”. Doris had a very kind and loving spirit and will be missed greatly by all who loved her.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Stewart; her parents Bennie and Senola Huell: brother, Edward Huell, and her sister, Shirley Huell Reed.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life and cherish her memories four children: Janet (Payton) Stewart Cross of Baltimore, MD, Juanita (Quincy) Stewart of Tampa, FL, Leon (Denyse) Stewart of Loxley, AL and Jason Stewart of Fort Walton Beach FL; her beautiful grandchildren, Bilal, Yusef Lateef, Abdul Haleem and Leah; one sister Tina Turner of Vicksburg, MS; five brothers, George (Marlease) Huell of Huntsville, AL, Bennie Huell, Jr., Perry (Judey) Huell Morris (Andrea) Shelton, and Larry Gray all of Vicksburg, MS; sister-in-law Bernice (Saul) Hilliard of Vicksburg, MS: two brothers –in-law, Abe Stewart of Greenville, MS and Calvin Reed of Vicksburg, MS; three special daughters, Roleithia Mills, NiShay Clark and Ebony “Bonnie” Davis; three aunts, Pearl Harris, Katie (Abe) Walls, and Olivia Palmer; three uncles, Charles Huell, Bobby Huell, and Clarence Huell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family, and relatives and friends including the Palmer, Reed, Carpenter, Wilson, Huell, Bass, Stewart and Brown families.

Tommy Carl Scott went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2013 at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was a member of Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church.

He graduated from Wallace High School in Charleston, South Carolina. He was a former employee for the city of Vicksburg for five years.

Tommy was preceded in death by his son, Leroy Barnes; mother, Elisa Mae Scott; father, Joe Wynn and step-father, Luster Lee Hampton, Sr.

Tommy will be always remembered by his family. To cherish his memory he leaves behind: his four sisters, Inez Richardson of Richmond, California, Linda S. Jenkins and Edna Scott both of Charleston, South Carolina and Elise H. Grant (Reggie) of Ft. Meade, Maryland; three brothers, Luster L. Hampton, Jr. (Arabelle) and Ernest L. Hampton both of Charleston, South Carolina and George L. Hampton (Mary) of Gadsen, Alabama; special friend, Gladys Grant of Vicksburg, Mississippi; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Gladys Mae Jones-Warfield heard the horn blowing and peacefully answered the call on January 12, 2013 at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg.

She was born icon on April 3, 1934 in the Ballground Community. She confessed Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church (Ballground) where she remained a lifelong loyal and faithful member.

At Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church she served on the Missionary Society Helps Ministry and was a Mother of the Church.

Her education began at Ballground Elementary School, and continued when she attended Bowman High School and received her diploma as a 1953 graduate.

After High School, she moved to the Kings Community. In Kings, she became very active in Triumphant Baptist Church as an Honorary member serving as Treasurer for the Sunday School and Director of the Easter Program for many years.

Mrs. Warfield was known far and wide as a woman of integrity and of great faith, a faithful wife and a devoted mother. She was truly blessed, her spirit was quiet, but her actions spoke loud and clear. Mrs. Warfield served the Lord by allowing her Missionary Society (HELPS) Ministry to spread, not only to the community where she lived, but made a difference in every life that she touched. She spent many years laboring by sewing and cooking, not only in her church, but throughout the community. She served with everything inside because of the love of God she possessed. She did not let the circumstances of her life cast shadows or hinder advantages of anyone’s life, especially her children. She took the little she had and used it to the best of her ability calling on the name of Jesus to survive

Mrs. Warfield started her career early helping the family on their share cropping farm in the Ballground Community. She later worked at St. Francis School (Sisters of Mercy), Kings Elementary School and Warrenton Elementary School, and retired from the Vicksburg-Warren School District after many years of service in 1996.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mrs. Hattie Lee Jones-Truly and Professor Garrison W. Hedrick Sr.; her grandparents, James and Eliza Jones; one daughter, Linda Lou Jones; one sister, Hattie Jones; three brothers, Joseph Jones, John A. Jones and Joseph Hedrick, M.D.; her aunt, Mrs. Jessie Guy; and three grandchildren, Mia Anderson (Glen Burnie, Maryland), Caleb Anderson (Glen Burnie, Maryland) and Jessica Parson Warfield (Vicksburg, Mississippi).

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jesse R. Warfield, Sr., of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters, Jacqueline Jones (Albion, Michigan), Deborah Smith (James) and Pamela Durman (Vincent, Sr.) (Vicksburg, Mississippi) Sherry Anderson (Anthony) (Glen Burnie, Maryland), and Sandra Wyatt (Brian) (Jackson, Mississippi); three sons, Jesse Warfield, Jr., Rodney Warfield (Leonia) and Michael Warfield (Diane) all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; three sisters, Ernestine Carson and Bobbie Harrington (Marvin) (Vicksburg, Mississippi) and Paulette Hedrick (Chicago, Illinois); two brothers, James Jones (Annie) and attorney Garrison Hedrick (Chicago, Illinois); three sister-in-laws, Lula Jones (Vicksburg, Mississippi), Margaret Louise Warfield, Mable Lucille Stewart (Detroit, Michigan); and one brother-in-law, Willie Warfield (Flossie) (Elizabeth, Mississippi)

Sixteen grandchildren, Debraka Williams (Travis, Sr.) Megan Smith, Jesse Warfield III, Vincent Durman, Jr., LaFarran Durman, Jasmine McDaniel, Amanda McDaniel, Keturah Warfield, Ashley Pratt, Ashton Warfield, Ashanti Warfield, Anthony Warfield and Aryn Warfield (Vicksburg, Mississippi) Rachel Anderson, and Maachah Anderson (Glen Burnie, Maryland), Bethany Wyatt (Jackson, Mississippi).

Two great grandchildren, Travis Williams, Jr., and Joshua Chatman; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church members and friends.

Lena Mae Taylor Johnson passed away on January 8, 2012. She was born icon on October 15, 1948 in Claiborne County to the late Noah Taylor and Mary B. Holden Taylor. She was the youngest child of eight children. Lena, at a young age was baptized at Greater Mount Zion in Vicksburg, Mississippi and later she joined New Rocks of Ages Baptist Church.

Lena wasn't an educated woman, but she carried herself with class like she had a PH. D. She has touched the lives of many with her bright smile and generosity. Lena was a home-maker and a seamstress for many years. She was instrumental in making a lot of peoples' dreams a reality with her gift of sewing. When one couldn't find what they needed to wear in the store, she was the one to call, all you needed was a picture of what you wanted made.

Lena was a mother who took care of her children and any other child that showed up at the door step. She had a kind heart that never turned anyone away. She always said, "Never turn anyone away who shows up at your door, if it's a girl or boy, woman or man, cat or dog, because it just might be God". Lena has ran her race and finished her course. She will live on in each one of us.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Johnson; her sisters, Elnora Taylor and Fannie B. Taylor; and two brothers, Dan Pearson and Myles Lee Taylor.

Lena will always be remembered by her devoted family. To cherish her memory she leaves behind: two daughters, Dorothy Taylor Martin and Ella (Wally) Curry, of Vicksburg, Mississippi; four sons, Randy (Chandra) Taylor of Jackson, Mississippi, Ronnie (Valerie) Taylor, Thomas (Nicole) Taylor, Timothy (Karnita) Taylor, and a nephew raised as a son, Donnell Taylor, all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; one brother, Willie Taylor of Vicksburg, Mississippi; a step son, Joe M. Johnson Hodge of Savannah, Georgia; two sisters, Nellie Taylor of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Callie Mae Taylor of Gary, Indiana; a brother-in-law, Willie (Sharon) Johnson, Sr. of Vicksburg, Mississippi; twelve grandchildren; three god-children, Bonita Branson, Kenneth Sylvester and Chasity Tinsley; two close friends, Ms. Minnette Rooks and Marilyn Butler; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives including the Taylor, Thomas, Bernard, Johnson, Neal, Turner and Holden families.

Michael Singleton Was born icon November 28, 1964 to the late Johnnie Ruth Singleton and George Hunter, in Hinds County. He departed this life on January 5, 2013, at home in Edwards, Mississippi.

Michael received his education at Edwards Attendance Center in Edwards Mississippi, Hinds County Agricultural High School, and Utica Junior College, Utica, Mississippi. He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Edwards Mississippi.

He joined the Army National Guard, December 8, 1988 where he severed as a Specialist,

162nd Military Police Company and served as active member of Flaming Sword Lodge 101 F&AM located in Edwards, Mississippi.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Ruth Singleton and George Hunter and two brothers, James and Roosevelt Singleton.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: three brothers, D.Y., Willie Charles and Donnie

Clementine Singleton of Harvey, Illinois, and Janice (Herman) Foster of Jackson, Mississippi;

Ida Lee Blackmore was born icon to the late Mary Morris in Warren County, Vicksburg, Mississippi, on July 24, 1952. At six weeks old, she was adopted by the late Mose and Rosie Lee Blackmore.

Ida confessed Christ at the age of twelve at Christian Home II Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Walter Jones. She served as the church secretary for many years, was a dedicated choir member, participating in various other activities, and remaining faithful until God called her home on Monday, January 7, 2013 at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

"Sweetie Pie" attended Temple High School, but graduated from Warren Central High School, a cheerful member of the class of 1971. She continued her education while attending Utica Jr. College where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

In November, 1974, Ida was united in holy matrimony to Curtis Ray Lloyd, Sr. To their union, three surviving children were born: Tracie, Curtis Ray, Jr., and Trina.

She began her career as an individual who extended her love to children in the Vicksburg Warren School District, at Warren Central Jr. High School. She later worked for the Interstate Nuclear Service Company, and the Vicksburg Police Department in the Traffic Division, where she held the position of Crossing Guard. Her last employment tour of duty was in a position where she had great compassion. She was a culinary employee for L.D.'s Catering Service.

Ida was preceded in death by: her mother and father, Mose and Rosie Lee Blackmore; a sister, Mary Joe Steenis; a play daughter, Gaynell Wilson; and mother-in-law, Geraldine Lloyd.

She is survived by and leaves precious memories to: her husband, Curtis Ray Lloyd, Sr.; one son, Curtis Ray (Jessica) Lloyd, Jr.; two daughters, Tracie (Alton) Lloyd Sims, and Trina (Deshay) Lloyd, all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; two brothers, Raymond (Antoinette') Burnett of Georgia, and Albert Nellons of Detroit, Michigan; one sister, Julia Mae Carter of Detroit, Michigan; grandchildren, Kenneth (Special friend Kiara) Jackson, Kendrick Brown, Da'Sha McGloster, Alton Sims, Jr., Nicole Sims, Daniel Wright, and Mike Kemper; one great-grandson, Xavier Jackson; godchildren, Derrick Gardner and Rhonda Cook-Andrews; caregiver, Ethel Gardner; best friends, Brenda Johnson and Sharon Ward; the Gardner, Robinson, Pendleton, Gaskin, Warfield, Jones, Mace, Banks, Brown, Bowman, Thomas, Johnson, Garrett, Wilson, Ford, Benard, Christian Home and St. Peter Church families.
