Mr. David L. Tolliver, Sr., was born icon January 19, 1947 in Warren County, Mississippi to the union of Mr. Elisha Tolliver and Mrs. Roxie Givens Tolliver.

He confessed Christ at an early age at Travelers Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend John H. Williams. His Christian life continued at King David Baptist Church #2 under the leadership of Reverend Johnny Williams and later he rejoined Travelers Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Thomas Bernard.

He served in various ministries in the church such as Deacon Ministry, Transportation Ministry, Men of Purpose, and United Voices of Worship Choir.

David was educated in the public schools of Vicksburg and graduated from Rosa A. Temple High School. He was employed by Kroger Company for 40 years.

He departed this life on Wednesday, September 26, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elisha and Roxie Givens Tolliver; his paternal grandparents, Betty and Emmanuel Tolliver; his maternal grandparents, Rush and Louise Givens; his wife, Lena Smith Tolliver; four sisters; Annie Tolliver, Mottel (Tolliver) Doss, Evelyn Givens, Bessie (Tolliver) Smith and two brothers Elisha Tolliver, Jr. and Emmanuel Tolliver.

Left to cherish his memory, emulate his life, and continue his legacy of service are: his wife, Elva Smith-Tolliver; two sons, David (Gina) Tolliver, Jr., of Chicago, Illinois and Stephen Leandrew Tolliver of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; two step-sons, Eros Smith and Kiel (Frances) Alexander; one daughter, Jennifer Louise Tolliver of Irving, Texas; one step-daughter, Kathryn (Alvin) Coleman; one grandchild, Kameron Leandrew Tolliver; five sisters, Louise Bunch of Southfield, Michigan, Roxie Hebron, Cassie Tolliver, Alean (Michael) Luster and Savannah Tolliver all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; two brothers, Harold Tolliver of Aurora, Illinois and Robert Tolliver of Vicksburg, Mississippi; a special niece, Diane (James) Cessna, of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and the Travelers Rest Church Family.

Calvin Henderson was born icon December 11, 1925 and departed to be with the Lord September 26, 2012. He was the youngest son of sixteen children born icon to Mr. Ernest Henderson and Mrs. Ada (Shearry) Henderson in Pocahontas, Mississippi.

At the age of 12, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Flora, MS. He later moved his membership to Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church and remained there until his health started to decline.

Calvin was affectionately called "Brain Man" by some of his beloved friends because he could hold a conversation on any topic of discussion. Many of his nieces and nephews called him "Mr. Haney" because he was always doing his own repairs. He was the service technician for his house.

Calvin was united in holy matrimony to the late Carrie Lee Arnold on December 23, 1944. To this union six children were born.

Two children preceded him in death, the oldest son Calvin Henderson, Jr. (Sonny Man) and youngest daughter, Ruby Lewis. He was also preceded in death by his great grandson, Kelsey Deron Edmond, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memories, two daughters, Catherine (John) Saffore of Los Angeles, CA and Ada Jenkins of Jackson, MS; two sons, Wesley (Willie Mae) Henderson of Moreno Valley, CA and Stanley Henderson of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, Creola Williams and Dolly Donald of Jackson MS; two brothers-in-law, Sylvester (Catherine) Arnold of Jackson, MS and R.C. Dixon of Moreno Valley, CA.; two sisters-in-law, Deloris Arnold and Mary Alice Arnold of Jackson, MS; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; along with a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Willie James Myles was born icon in Edwards, Mississippi on October 13, 1937 to Willie Myles and Thelma Lyles Myles who preceded him in death, also a sister, Myrtis Woodruff Rozell and a brother, Fredrick Gordon.

He confessed his life to Christ and joined Mt. Moriah M.B. Church at an early age. He attended school at Edwards Jr. High and Utica Institute. He later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana and joined St. Jude Deliverance Center under the leadership of Bishop Joe L. Price. Then he moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and served as Assistant Pastor at St. Jude Deliverance Center No. 2 and later he moved back to Indianapolis, Indiana and joined Greater Shepherd M.B. Church. In 1994 he moved home to Edwards, Mississippi and joined Springhill Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor M. J. Williams where he served as a minister until his health declined.

Before he retired as a truck driver and became a Small Business owner of Myles and Sons Trucking Company, he was a well-known hunter, fisherman, and gardener. Mr. Myles was well-known for his famous plum jelly. Brother Willie James Myles was united in Holy Matrimony to the lovely Arlene Mitchum. This union brought a lot of love to each of them and everyone around them.

Brother Willie James memoires will be cherished by his loving wife, Mrs. Arlene Myles; ten children, seven daughters, Denise, Diane, Carolyn, Willetta (Eugene) Straudder, Vanetta, Rolonda, and Tonya; three sons, Ralph, Fredrick, and Kenny; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delois (Sylvester) Jamison of Snellville, Georgia, Willetta Wagoner of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two brothers, Leonard (Clara) Myles of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Robert (Shunda) Gordon of Edwards, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; seven god-children; five god-daughters, Camille, Michelle, Elnora, Eva and Diane; and two god-sons, Joseph and Willie; and a host of hunting and fishing buddies.

Eva C. Walker Stampley was granted her angel wings on September 21, 2012. She fought a long battle and her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.

She was born icon October 31, 1947, in Jefferson Davis County MS to Robert and Mary Walker, the third of 12 children. She was married icon to Jerry Stampley for 45 years. In additionto Vicksburg, she has lived in Pinola, Prentiss and Clarksdale, MS; Epps, LA; Richmond and Sacramento, California; andO'Fallon and Rockford IL.

Eva was a devoted mother with strong family values and loved traveling.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Jackson Street M.B. Church.

Mrs. Stampley is survived by her husband, Jerry Stampley; one daughter, Michelle Stampley; three sons, Jerry Lee, Charles and Kevin Stampley(Candice Gray) all of Vicksburg; four sisters; Willie Nell Ferguson(Paul) of Jackson, MS; Mary Johnson of Warrensburg, MO; Joyce Evans and Rosie Wince (Donell) of Vicksburg; six brothers; Charlie Walker of Seattle, WA; James Walker of Anchorage, AK; Edmond Walker of Belleville, IL; John Walker, Melvin Walker (Linda Curry) and Raymond Walker (Hazel) of Vicksburg, MS; five grandchildren: Mack Albert III, Kevin Stampley, Jr., Kedarius Stampley, Crystal Albert and Jerry Stampley III; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives including the Davis and Gaines families of Vicksburg and the Lockhart family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Walker; mother, Mary Lockhart Walker; a brother, Robert Walker, Jr. and a sister, Evelyn Walker.

Phalesha Latrice Gaskew was born icon on November 14, 1985 to Lucy Gaskew and Walter Gaskew, Sr. She departed this life on September 17, 2012 at home in Edwards, Mississippi.

Phalesha was preceded in death by her daughter, Zhnerriya Daijah Gaskew; grandmothers, Lucy Warner and Nellie Winslow and one brother-in-law, David Irving.

Phalesha graduated from Raymond High School on May 23, 2005. She also attended Virginia College. Styling hair was one of her favorite hobbies.

Phalesha leaves behind to cherish her beloved memories: one son, Xay ‘Marrian Bradley of Edwards, Mississippi; one daughter, ZyTarriah Gaskew of Edwards, Mississippi; her mother, Lucy Gaskew of Edwards, Mississippi; her father, Walter Gaskew, Sr. of Edwards, Mississippi; three sisters, Donna (Keith) Warner and Roshanda Myles both of Edwards, Mississippi and Clarice (David) Irving of Pearl, Mississippi; one brother, Walter (Mekechia) Gaskew, Jr. of Vicksburg, Mississippi; a very special friend, Jeremy Marshall of Vicksburg; and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and other relatives .

Annie Marie Murphy “Ree Baby” was born icon on October 13, 1938 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Annie Lee Johnson and her father, the late Lovell Johnson.

Annie Marie was a member of King David Baptist Church of LeTourneau, pastored by the late Reverend B.B. Brown of Lake Providence.

She received her early childhood education in the Warren County Public Schools and she completed high school at St. Mary’s Catholic School.

Upon graduating, Annie Marie attended Tyler Texas Beauty and Barber College. Later in life, she moved to Chicago, Illinois. In Illinois, she attended Triton Community College and Technical Institute with a certification in Bookkeeping. After returning to Vicksburg, she continued working as a cashier, manager until she retired.

In addition to her parents, Annie Marie was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Lou Walker and one brother, Hazzy Cross, Sr.

She leaves to cherish in memory: one son, Timothy Lovell Reeves of Vicksburg, Mississippi; four daughters, Michelle Henderson “B.B.”, Bennie Marie Jackson, ”Bay”, Adrina Rae Murphy Johnson all of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Stephanie K. Cross Williams of Clinton, Mississippi; one brother, Osie Cross (Gladys) of Vicksburg, Mississippi; eight grand children; eight great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, special friends and families including Retha Clark, Irma Love, Annie Mae Burks and the Townsend, Kelly and Carter families.

A Time To Live

Sister Gaines was a faithful member of the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church until her death. She was united in Holy Matrimony at an early age to the late Rowan Gaines, Sr.

A Time To Die

On Tuesday, September 11, 2012, Bertha Mae Nash Gaines completed her mission here on earth. God called his angel home. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Rowan Gaines, Sr., mother and father, Arnette and Willie Nash, a granddaughter, Kenya Thomas, a niece, Cara Knight, a nephew, Roger Davis, and family friends, Greta Good-Blake and Ruby Walker, sister-in-law, Mattie Gaines.

Those left to carry on her memories are her two daughters: Nellie (Darnell) King and Ellen Gaines, both of Port Gibson, Mississippi, Three sons: Sammie (Katie) Thomas, Rowan Gaines both of Port Gibson, Mississippi, and Joseph Gaines (Jacqueline) of Lebanon, New Hampshire, Thirteen grandchildren, Thirteen great grandchildren, two daughters-in-law, Regina Mixon and Minnie Thomas, and other relatives and friends.

Tommy Lee “Tuck” Martin was born icon in Yokena, Vicksburg, Mississippi on November 15, 1953, to Winnie Mae Martin and the late Mr. Leroy White.

He was baptized and united in Christian Fellowship at Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend J.C. Carr. He later moved his membership to Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church. He served faithfully, dedicating his life to the Lord. He was a very active member serving in the Male Choir, Mass Choir, and serving on the Usher Ministry. He was still very active in the church until the time of his departure.

In 1973 he graduated from South Vicksburg High School where he played on the football team. He met his lovely wife playing jumping jacks in the Junior High Gym. He worked at Cooper Lighting for the past 12 ˝ years as a certified welder.

He united in matrimony to Noel Frankie Jones and to this union one child was born, Tomisea Martin and two god-children, Shamekia Chambliss and Zachary Haggard. This was a marriage united by God for over 37 years; and high school sweetheart they had a total of 43 years together.

On Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 11:12 p.m. at the River Region Medical Center, Tommy completed his mission here on earth, so God called him home. He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy White; his paternal and maternal grandparents, two brothers, Robert White and Henry Martin; two sisters, Rebecca Young and Alice White Scott.

He leaves loving memories to be cherished by: his devoted, protected and loving wife, Noel Martin for over 43 years which were united in marriage for over 37 years; one lovely daughter, Tomisea Martin of Vicksburg; two god-children, Shamekia Chambliss of Laurel, Mississippi and Zachary Haggard of Vicksburg; mother, Winnie Martin; five brothers, Edward (Carolyn) Myles of Birmingham, Alabama, Leroy (Rita) White, Jr. of Knobnobster, Missouri, William (Chris) White of Surprise, Arizona, David (Yolanda) White of El Paso, Texas, Larry Cain Martin of Vicksburg; seven sisters, Rosie Elder of Waukegan, Illinois, Doris (Melvin) Bolden, Olevia (John) King, Rita (Henry) Hunter, Shelia (Rodney) Dillamar, and Bertha Brown all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and Pamela (Richard) King of Columbia, Georgia; lifelong special cousins, Bradford Martin, Willie Martin of Vicksburg and Reverend McKinley Martin of Los Angeles, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and numerous friends, especially my eating, breakfast friends at Cooper Lighting.
