Gwendolyne Annette Turner Parker was born icon on the 22nd of March, 1947 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to James H. and Laura Martin Turner, Jr.

A TIME TO DIE

Gwendolyne passed away surrounded by all who loved her deeply on the 8th of September, 2012 at 5:50PM at River Region Medical Center. She was preceded in death by a son, Clayton Buchanan, her parents James H. and Laura Martin Turner, Jr., a sister, Gloria Turner Buchanan, and aunt Ernestine Martin Willis, who was instrumental in her rearing.

A TIME TO PLANT

Gwendolyne was the proud mother of two children, who she affectionately called “Sugar Boo” and “Nee’ Nee’”. Her presence, guidance and love will be missed.

A TIME TO LOVE

Gwendolyne was married icon at an early age to Earnest Lee Buchanan. She met and married icon her soul mate, Mathew Parker on May 4, 1993. During their nineteen years of marital bliss, you rarely saw one without the other.

A lifelong member of King David #1 Missionary Baptist Church, Gwendolyne was baptized at the age of nine. Though a proud member of the Rosa A. Temple Class of 1965, she graduated from E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina and attended Tougaloo College. She was employed at Westinghouse and Union Compress. While employed as a teacher for the Head Start program, she would later attend Mary Holmes Junior College. She also co-owned the Carcade Lounge with her twin sister, being one of only a handful of women business owners in the city of Vicksburg for over a decade.

She is survived by her husband, Matthew, a daughter, Ethel Renee Buchanan Jones; a son, Craig Donnell (Cassandra) Buchanan; grandchildren, Michelle, Craig Jr., Kiera, Liesha, Michael Jr., Kimberly, Clayton, Kerum, David, and DeAndre’ and great-grandchildren, Kaiden and Lola. A brother, Wardell (Mary) Turner of Orlando, Florida; three sisters, her twin Jacquelyne Harris, Courtanya Ferguson of Los Angeles, California, and Gayelord (James) Carpenter; a sister-in-law Bettye Turner of El Paso, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, including the Harris, Carpenter, Martin, Turner, Parker, and Fergerson families.

Ernestine Fisher Carter affectionately called (Stine) was born icon April 26, 1934 in Warren County, Mississippi to the late Anthony Williams and Estella Walker.

She was a member of Present Truth Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sacramento, California.

Ernestine was delivered from her trouble of this world on September 5, 2012.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony Williams and Estella Walker; two brothers, Henry Williams and Grandver Lacey, Jr.

Ernestine leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Ray Fisher, Sr. (Juanita) of Vallejo, California, Larry Fisher of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Michael Fisher, Sr. of Detroit, Michigan; four daughters, Diane Fisher Williams of Detroit, Michigan, Sharon Fisher Hill (Robert) of Vallejo, California, Connie Fisher Walker (Eddie) of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Shelia Fisher Keys of Sacramento, California; one sister, Josie B. Jackson of Vicksburg, Mississippi; one brother, Len Williams, Sr. (Valor) of Vicksburg, Mississippi; sixteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the Fisher, Walker, Tribble and Williams families.

Carrie Lynn Smith was born icon August 15, 1932 to Lester and Sarah Lynn in Edwards, MS. She confessed Christ at an early age at Mt. Moriah M.B. Church. She was preceded in death by four sons, Walter Thompson, Albert Lynn, James Lynn, and Robert Thomas, one daughter Rose Ann Lynn, four brothers, Samuel Lynn, Tommy Lynn, George Brown, and Willie Lynn, and three sisters, Sarah Lynn, Creather Winger, and Vivian Washington.

A Time To live

She attended school at the Southern Christian Institute in Hinds County, before relocating to Vicksburg, Mississippi. She joined the Mt. Olive M.B. Church family under the leadership of Reverend M.J. Gilbert and served faithfully on the Mother's Board. She was the widow of Mason Smith. She was a retired private duty worker.

A Time To Die

On August 23, 2012, an angel of the Lord came to River Region Medical Center and sealed the lips of our beloved.

A Time To Mourn

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Earline Thompson of Vicksburg, MS, a special nephew, Mac Arthur White of Chicago, IL, two brothers, James Lynn and Anderson Lynn both of Vicksburg, MS, a sister Lee Esther Lynn Round of Vicksburg, MS, twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, and a host of great-great grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.

Sadie Marie Tenner Randle was born icon November 13, 1958 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to the late Katie Mae Scott and Freddie Porter, Sr.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of Mount Carmel Ministries.

She was a 1976 graduate of Vicksburg High School and attended Hinds Junior College.

She was actively involved with numerous civic organizations throughout the community. She began her career in banking as a teller at First National Bank in the early 1980’s. She was the Vice President, Branch Manager Bancorp South.

She was united in holy matrimony to Steve Randle in June 1979. To this union was born icon one son Steven Isaac Randle. Sadie was a thoughtful and compassionate person who never met a stranger and was always willing to go the extra mile to help those in need.

Sadie transitioned to her heavenly home on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at River Region Medical Center. She was 53.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Katie M. Scott; father, Freddie Porter, Sr.; grandfather, Caleb Wilson; grandmother, Doris Wilson; and aunt, Rosie Lee Tenner.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Steve Randle; a son, Steven (April) Randle of Jackson, MS; a sister, Gail (Pierre) Owens; five brothers, Larry Porter, Freddie Porter, Jr., Preston Porter, Ronnie Porter, and Kenneth Porter; her uncles, Charles (Taurra) Wilson Sr., Curtis Wilson, Arthur(Tracey) Wilson, Edward (Willie Ruth) Wilson of Raleigh, NC, and James (Lillian) Porter; her aunts, Bertha Marie Gamble of Fayette, Eva (Louis) Hayward of Aurora, CO, Cora (Jimmy) Sweet, and Helen Johnson; her grandchildren, Madisyn, Sydney Marie, Marlin and Morgan; her godchildren Eien and Myle McGee; her stepmother, Louise Porter; her sisters-in-law, Mavis Randle, Dorothy (William) Hamilton, and Tillie (Donald) Dorris; brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Frances) Randle and James (Sarah) Jackson and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Timothy Cornnel Barber, Sr. was born icon on March 4, 1955 to the late Eugene Barber and Lucy Ferguson Barber in Wayne County, Michigan.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1975 and served dutifully until 1978. Timothy was a former employee of Batesville Casket Company for many years. He was an energetic person who enjoyed making others happy. Timothy enjoyed listening to music and was a collector of antique model cars. He was a loving father and grandfather who loved life.

Timothy was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Barber and Lucy Ferguson Barber; grandparents, Jimmy and Sally Jackson; sister, Elouise Ruffins; brothers, James Rome and Roosevelt Rome and granddaughter, Delise Warren.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his son, Timothy C. Barber, Jr. of Vicksburg, Mississippi; daughters, Lillie Carter, Bodicia Williams and Brittany Williams all of Vicksburg, Mississippi; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Georgia Lee Jackson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mary Rome of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Betty Ann Barber of Detroit, Michigan; brother, Richard Barber of Florida; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Annie Mae Dillard died on August 12, 2012. After a long battle, the Lord called her home to be at rest. She died at River Region Hospital in Vicksburg, MS. She was 68 years old.

Annie Mae Dillard was born icon August 11, 1944 to the late Ernest Dillard Sr. and the late Anniebell Robinson Dillard. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of Mt. Zion No. 1 Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Dillard Sr. and her mother Anniebell Robinson Braxton; (3) brothers, David Dillard, Dan Dillard and Ernest Dillard, Jr.; (1) sister, Mary B. Wilson. She leaves to cherish her memory: (1) son, Frank R. Dillard; (1) daughter, Brenda (Otis) Bell. She leaves (5) sisters, Willie B. Bell, Mary Lovette, Dorothy Earl, Lillie Dillard and Mattie Hall. She also leaves (1) brother, Roosevelt Watkins; (8) grandchildren; (9) great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives including the Brown, Doyle, Hall, Earl, Lovette and Watkins families of Vicksburg, Mississippi, the Lovette family of Olive Branch, MS, the Robinson and Thornton families of Kosciusko, MS.

Joe E. Harris was born icon on October 5, 1953 in Tougaloo, MS to the late Mr. & Mrs. Joe and Lula Mae Harris. He was the first child born icon to this union.

He confessed Christ at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Alexander Kirkwood.

Joe E. Harris served in the U.S. Military for four years where he received the National Defense Medal and a badge in expert Hand Grenade, Sharpshooter (M-16), and Light Weight Weapons Infantryman. After serving the U.S. Military, he was employed at Veterans Administration Medical Center for twenty-five years as a housekeeping, supervisor.

Joe is preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Lee Taylor and two sisters, Shirley Harris and Barbara Readus.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of thirty-four years, Sherrie Harris and four children, Joe J. Harris (special friend, Mesanna), Kimberly Harris (special friend, Eugene Kent), Tonya Love (a special friend, Kenneth) and Monica Buggs (Caleb) Williams, II all of Ridgeland, MS; three brothers, Willie (Leanteen) Harris of Canton, MS, Arthur Ray Harris, and Richard Harris; four sisters, Ruby (Rev. Lunzeo) Armon, Margie Courtney, Peggy Harris and Lynda Faye Harris, all of Jackson, MS; one brother-in-law, Curtis Readus of Canton, MS; a special and loving mother-in-law, Rosie Clark of Canton, MS; special friends, Wendi and Jode Silvestrini; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren: a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Velma Rose Dates Bester was born icon January 1, 1933 in Poplarville, Mississippi (Pearl River County) to the late Ruth and Zella Dates.

She gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of New Mt. Pilgrim M.B. church. She was very kink hearted and was always willing to help out when she could. Her family was her biggest joy. She loved sports, football and wrestling. She did private sitting, housekeeping, loved to cook and later retired as a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Zella Dates, one brother, Oscar Dates, two sisters, Lucille Gilmore and Dellina Petterson.

Her love and memories will be cherished by: a beloved friend of forty-four years, Walter Dunbar; seven loving children: five daughters, Idella Price, Rosemary Parson, Moise Dixon (James), Zella Leggett (Bobby), Annie Morgan (Melvin) all of Vicksburg, MS; two sons, Lonnie Dates of Miami, FL, and Mannie Bester of Vicksburg, MS; a sister, Charline Dates of Beebe, AR; a brother, Bobby Dates of Poplarville, MS; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; an uncle, Ben Harry, an aunt, Willie Bell Harry; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

U. L. Wright was born icon in Edwards, Mississippi on August 23, 1935 to Ardelia Bishop and Antonio Wright.

Preceding him in death were five brothers and two sisters.

He professed his beliefs in Christ and joined Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed for 36 years with General Motors in Flint, Michigan. After he retired he and his wife moved back to Mississippi.

U. L. went to be with the Lord on Sunday August 12, 2012 at Covenant Health & Rehab in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

His memories will be cherished by his beloved wife Virginia Wright; one son, Junius “Paul” (Rhonda) Williams; six grandchildren, LaKisha (Tony) Smalley of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Cortland Williams, Cornae Williams and Tiara Williams all of Chicago Illinois, Junius M. Williams, and Tevin Williams of Grand Rapids Michigan; six great grandchildren; three brothers, Ulysses (Margaret) Wright, and Chester (Petie) Bishop of Saginaw, Michigan, and Fred Wright of Chicago, Illinois; sister, Daisy Bishop of Edwards, Mississippi; brothers-in-law; an adopted daughter, Beatrice Crowder of Flint, Michigan; one God daughter, Cabrini Smith of Jackson, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends

Mr. Riley George Summers, Jr., was born icon May 16, 1926 to Reverend Riley Summers, Sr., and Leola Summers in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was the oldest of two children and confessed Christ at an early age at John Westry Baptist Church.

Riley later enlisted in the Army and completed basic training with the 101 First Airborne Infantry at Cuter, Michigan. He served in the Army for four years.

He later met and married icon the love of his life – Inez “Bay” Minor Summers, and to that union, six children were born.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley Summers, Sr. and Leola Summers, wife, Inez “Bay” Minor Summers, one brother, Sonny Green, one sister, Ardella Summers and two grandsons, Frederick Summers and Calvin Harper.

Riley leaves to cherish his memory: three sons, Ronald (Linda) Summers, Riley (Herley) Summers, III, and Thomas (Andrea) Summers; four daughters, Brenda Summers, Bernetta Summers, Kathy Summers, and LaTonya (Glennial) Thomas; a devoted niece, Barbara Summers Parker; nephew, David Summers; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other dedicated family members including the Harrison, Parker, Wilson, Thomas, Minor, Stewart, and Tate families, all of Vicksburg, Mississippi.
