Herman L. McCarson
WALLS - Services for Herman L. McCarson, 78, of Walls, salesman for Primrose Oil Co., who died of cancer June 23, 2001 at his home, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home in Hernando, with burial in New Bethlehem cemetery.
He was a Methodist, a Navy veteran of WWII, and past Master of Horn Lake Masonic Lodge #617. Mr. McCarson, the husband of Opal F. McCarson, also leaves two sons, Jerry McCarson and Charles McCarson; a step-daughter, Susan Ford Whitten, all of Walls; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; and a special friend who cared for him, Ruth Purdy.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice South at 187 Stateline Rd. east, Southaven.

Marcus Randal Moore
NESBIT - Services for Marcus Randal Moore, 45, of Nesbit, terminal manager for Global Logistics in Memphis, who died of a heart attack June 23, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Forest Hill South Chapel, with burial in Forest Hill South cemetery.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Walls. He leaves his fiance, Janet Proffitt of Nesbit; two daughters, Amanda Lee Moore and Jerilyn Ray Moore, both of Forth Worth, Texas; his mother, Carolyn F. Moore of Horn Lake; his father, H. O. Moore of Pope, Miss.; a sister, Jo Ellen Doss of Calhoun City, Miss.; two brothers, Michael H. Moore of Olive Branch, and Jeff S. Moore of Horn Lake; grandmother, Jimmie Ray Fox of Calhoun City; and two granddaughters.
Any memorials may be sent to Bethel Baptist Church in Walls.

Evelyn F. Tinkle
NESBIT - Services for Evelyn F. Tinkle, 88, of Nesbit, retired from the U.S. Army as a nurse after 22 years, attaining the rank of Major, who died of heart failure June 23, 2001 at Senatobia Convelescent Center, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Nesbit Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder, with burial in Nesbit cemetery. Hernando Funeral Home has charge.
She was member of the Retired Officers Association, Army Nurse Corp. Association, United Daughters of Confederacy, lifetime member of the Genealogy Society of DeSoto County, and Eastern Star.
She served six years and six months overseas and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the American Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
She leaves a niece, Elizabeth Tinkle Wallis, and a nephew, Jerry L. Tinkle Jr., both of Nesbit.

Lonnie Pleasant Vaughn
HERNANDO - Services for Lonnie Pleasant Vaughn, 91, of Hernando, retired salesman for Cold Press Mill Feeds, who died of heart failure June 24, 2001 at his home, will be held at 11 a.m. June 27 at Bakers Chapel Methodist Church in Hernando, with visitation from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Bakers Chapel Methodist Church in Hernando. Burial will be in Bakers Chapel cemetery.
Mr. Vaughn, the widower of Thelma Anderson Vaughn, leaves three daughters, Kay Speed of Germantown, Annette Ragsdale of Roanoke, Va., and Gail Blosfield of Smyrna, Ga.; a son, Erwin Vaughn of Hernando; ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Bakers Chapel Methodist Church in Hernando Building Fund.

Shirley Mae Crump
LAS VEGAS — Shirley Mae Crump, a former resident of Vicksburg, died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Valley Hospital Medical Center. She was 59.
Services, directed by Palm Mortuary of Las Vegas, were Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Victory Baptist Church in Las Vegas with the Rev. Billy G. Miller officiating.
Ms. Crump had attended Vicksburg public schools and was a former member of King David M.B. Church of Vicksburg. After leaving Vicksburg, she joined New Bethel Baptist Church of Las Vegas. She retired from Bank of America after 23 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Sr. and Mary Cowans Crump; a sister, Bessie Crump Jones; and a twin son, Robert Queen Jr.
She is survived by a son, Ronald Queen; two daughters, Rita (Chris) Jenkins and Pamela Queen, both of Las Vegas; a brother, Frank (Orelia) Crump Jr. of Vicksburg; six grandchildren, Aaron Jenkins, Quinton Mason, Jazmine Williams, Ashlee Jenkins, Taylor Thompson and Alexiz Jenkins, all of Las Vegas; other very dear loved ones, Robert Queen and Mary Queen, aka Grandma, and Henry Thomas; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Paul Michael Thomas
NASHVILLE - Service for Paul Michael Thomas, 30, formerly of Southaven, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home, Hernando.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Thomas died Feb. 19, 2008 at Southern Hills Medical Center.
He was a salesman for Iowa Steak Company. He was a Baptist.
He attended Northwest Community College and planned to enter Vanderbilt University to study pre-law.
He leaves one daughter, Kayla Thomas, Memphis; one son, Jackson Thomas, Memphis; mother and stepfather, Paula B. and George Mann, Coldwater; father and stepmother, Larry and Nancy Thomas, Horn Lake; grandmothers, Virginia Brooks, Southaven, and Florence Thomas, Memphis, and many aunts and uncles and other family members.

Christopher Allen Beach
HORN LAKE - Service for Christopher Allen Beach, 26, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Hill South with visitation from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Ebenezer Methodist Church cemetery.
Beach died Feb. 17, 2008.
He was an artist, musician and professional cook.
He leaves his wife, Heather Fell Beach; a son, Skyler Nathaniel Beach, Southaven; his parents, Allen and Sherry Beach, Horn Lake; two sisters, Joni M. Costello, Athens, Ga. and Jenna L. Kidd, Tahlequah, Okla.; grandparents, Alvienell Beach, Memphis, James and Loraine Wilbanks, Collierville, Tenn.; two nieces and three nephews.

Jedidiah James "Jed" Acheson
SOUTHAVEN - Services for Jedidiah James "Jed" Acheson, 28, will be at 11 a.m. today at Twin Oaks Funeral Home, Southaven.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove cemetery, Jonesboro, Ark.
Acheson died April 29, 2009 at the Regional Medical Center, Memphis.
He was born icon June 7, 1980 in Appleton, Wisc. and was employed by Copalt Auction.
He leaves his wife, Kimberly Ann Acheson, Southaven; one son, Chase Tyler Acheson; one daughter, Destini Grace Acheson, both of Memphis; his father, Jay Acheson (Donna), Missouri; his mother, Carla Sandiford (Rick); one sister, Anna Acheson, all of Southaven; and two brothers, Derek Acheson and Jeff Acheson, both of Missouri.
Any memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Brenda Mae Clay Hunter
Brenda Mae Clay Hunter died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in California. She was 57.
Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by a twin sister, Linda Kaye Clay; and her parents, James Edward and Willie Mae Johnson Clay.
Mrs. Hunter is survived by one daughter, Brittany Clay Jeter of Inglewood, Calif.; two brothers, Bernard H. “Skippy” Clay of Las Vegas and James E. “Big Junior” Clay of Vicksburg; six sisters, Cinderetha M. Clay of Inglewood, Jean P. Byrd and Wanda L. Clay, both of San Diego, Shirley Ann Low, Westine LaVerne Houston and Joyce Marie Joiner, all of Vicksburg; nieces, nephews, aunts, great-nephews and -nieces, cousins and friends and neighbors.
Neptune Society Cremations is handling arrangements.

Helena C. Walley
Helena C. Walley died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest. She was 87.
born in Scott County, she was the daughter of the late Bryant B. and Euna Lee Burkes Clower.
Mrs. Walley was a resident of Vicksburg from 1942 to 1998 when she moved to Forest. She retired from the U.S. Government as a public information specialist in 1979. She was a member of the Vicksburg Business and Professional Women’s Club, Pi Alpha Kappa sorority and Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.P. Walley Jr.; and a sister.
She is survived by two daughters, Beth Twente of Decatur, Ala., and Karen Kelly of St. Augustine, Fla.; four sons, David Walley of Hillsboro, Miss., Jim Walley of Arab, Ala., Mark Walley of Clinton and Bob Walley of Birmingham, Ala.; one sister, Maurine Tunnell of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Hillsboro Baptist Church cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. Friday until the service.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 4830 McWillie Circle, Jackson, MS 39206.

Annie Lee Johnson Hayes
Services for Annie Lee Johnson Hayes will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Cool Spring M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the service.
Mrs. Hayes died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at River Region Medical Center. She was 81.
She was a graduate of Magnolia High School and Henderson Business College in Memphis. She retired from the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board after 32 years and was employed with the Social Security Administration, both in Chicago. She was a member of Cool Spring M.B. Church.
Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Lee Hayes; her parents, Alonzo and Frances Johnson; and a brother, Leonard Johnson.
Survivors include one brother, Frank Johnson of Vicksburg; one sister, Willie Ethel Johnson of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives, including members of the Thomas, Johnson, Houston, Jones, Waters, Armstrong, Williams, Brown and Mayfield families.
