Dorothy Ward
Services for Dorothy Ward will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jackson Street M.B. Church with the Rev. Michael Wesley Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill cemetery with W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home in charge.
Ms. Ward died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 38.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She attended Vicksburg High School and Hinds Community College.

Mickey Loyacono
Mickey Loyacono died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at her home. She was 56.
born in Vicksburg, Miss Loyacono was the daughter of the late Paul and Agnes Garvey Loyacono. She was a graduate of H.V. Cooper High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi.
In addition to her parents, Miss Loyacono was preceded in death by a sister, Delia L. Pyle.
Survivors include one sister, Frances Loyacono of Madison; and two brothers, Paul Kelly Loyacono of Vicksburg and Bill Loyacono of Hernando.
A Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor Patrick Farrell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home. Visitation will be at St. Paul Catholic Church from 10 a.m. Friday until the hour of the service. Memorials may be made to Southern Paws, 1200 Openwood St., Vicksburg, MS 39183.

John Hardy
John Hardy died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at River Region Medical Center. He was 66.
Mr. Hardy was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Sims; his mother, Alfreda Sims; and a brother, Eugene Sims.
Survivors include his daughter, Roshonda Hardy of Chicago; two brothers, Henry Sims of Chicago and Alfred Sims of Vicksburg; two sisters, Eunice Sims and Patricia Kinnard, both of Vicksburg; grandchildren; other relatives and friends including the Pampley, Powell, Hardy, Vaughn and Jordan families.
Lakeview Memorial Home has charge of arrangements.

Gladys Smith Pettway
Services for Gladys Smith Pettway will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Cary Stockett officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the service.
Mrs. Pettway died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was 92.
A longtime resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Pettway had lived in the Memphis area for the last six years. She was a native of Jefferson County and was the daughter of Willie and Sallie Smith.
She was a member of the Aldersgate Class at Crawford Street United Methodist Church and retired as purchasing agent for the City of Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Buford Pettway.
She is survived by a son, James Buford “Jimmy” Pettway Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; a daughter, Priscilla Pettway Griffith of Byhalia; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Memorials may be made to Crawford Street United Methodist Church, 900 Crawford St., Vicksburg, MS 39180.

Concetta Ann Canizaro DeRossette
Concetta Ann Canizaro DeRossette died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at her Heritage House residence. She was 84.
Mrs. DeRossette was born icon in Vicksburg to the late Frank C. and Lena Signa Canizaro.
After graduating from St. Francis Xavier Academy, she entered into training as a medical technician. Her first post was at the Vicksburg Hospital and, during World War II, in Biloxi.
A gifted soprano, Mrs. DeRossette also supported the troops by singing in several USO clubs on the Coast. She performed live on the radio, in community programs and in church choirs.
After the war, she returned to Vicksburg and began a long association with Dr. Edley Jones Sr. in his EENT practice through 1952, resuming work in 1972. In the interim, she married icon the late Wallace C. DeRossette Jr., and they raised a family while stationed at various military posts in the U.S. and Europe.
Mrs. DeRossette was a communicant of St. Michael Catholic Church, where she was a member of the choir.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mattie Canizaro; and her brother, James Canizaro, both of Vicksburg.
Mrs. DeRossette is survived by a sister, Angela Canizaro of Vicksburg; three daughters, Angela Thomson (husband Ralph) of Petal, Donna Hopkins and Janet Jackson; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Brasfeild (husband Charles), all of Vicksburg; and seven sons, Matthew DeRossette (wife Sally), Brian DeRossette (wife Betty), Tim DeRossette (wife Lucy), Patrick DeRossette and Frank DeRossette, all of Vicksburg, James DeRossette (wife Theresa) of Hattiesburg and Wallace DeRossette III (wife Denise) of Clinton; 31 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. P.J. Curley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with prayer services to follow. A visitation also will be at St. Paul Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be grandsons of the deceased.
Memorials may be made to the Saltillo, Mexico, Mission of St. Michael the Archangel.

Thomas H. Harkey Sr.
Thomas H. Harkey Sr. died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at River Region Medical Center. He was 61.
Mr. Harkey was born icon in North Carolina and had lived in Vicksburg for a number of years.
He served in the Vietnam war and retired from the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Harkey worked as a poker dealer at local casinos for 12 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion..
Mr. Harkey was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Hugh and Ruby Dell Black Harkey; his first wife, Jacqueline G. Harkey; and a grandson, Richard E. Parrish.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie Fran Brown Harkey; a son, Thomas H. Harkey Jr.; a daughter, Kimberly A. Parrish; four grandchildren; and a special friend, Judith Elizabeth Higgason.
Services will be Monday at 12 noon at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Brumfield officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.

Sarah K. Rowell
Sarah K. Rowell died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at her home. She was 5.
Sarah was preceded in death by a grandfather, Russell Hartley; and great-grandparents, George Muirhead and Larrel Rowell Sr.
She is survived by her parents, Jennifer R. and Rickey Hartley and Chad Gordy; three sisters, Chasity Bevill, Angelina Wright and Shelby Hartley; her grandparents, Del and Beth Rowell, Paul and Sandy Gordy, Jo and Gregg Evans, James McClurg, Myrtle Suber, Nell Thornton and Kim and Darren McKnight; great-grandparents, Bertie Muirhead and Frances and Everett Marble; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Blakeley officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon Wednesday until the service.

Guy Moffett Jr.
KOSCIUSKO — Guy Moffett Jr. died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at his daughter’s home in Vicksburg. He was 79.
Services will be at 4 this afternoon at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko with burial at Mizpah cemetery in Durant, Miss., with Father Mike Barth officiating.
Mr. Moffett worked as owner and operator of Moffett’s Grocery in Kosciusko from 1975 until 1988. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was a communicant of St. Therese Catholic Church.
Mr. Moffett was preceded in death by his wife, Lois McBride Moffett; and a daughter, Chris Porter.
He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Brewer of Vicksburg; two sons, Kim Moffett of Kosciusko and Tony Moffett of Vicksburg; three sisters, Billie Pugh of Kosciusko, Barbara Field of Gardnerville, Nev., and Dorothy Ashley of Portland, Ore.; one brother, Dan Moffett of Kosciusko; 10 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Moffett, William Pugh, Webber Brewer, Jason McKellar, Hank Cain, Joe Moffett, John Harrigill and Bill Hoxie.
Memorials may be made to the Catholic Children’s Village. The family would also like to thank the staff of Gilbert’s Home Health and Patient’s Choice Hospice in Vicksburg.

Pearl M. Lyons
Services for Pearl M. Lyons will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bypass Church of Christ with Brother Willie Nettle officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lyons died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at River Region Medical Center. She was 83.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lyons; her parents, Walter and T.Y. Mobley; one son, Otis Lyons; three daughters, Carrie L. Martin, Bertha Lyons and Francis Lyons; and two sisters, Fannie B. Mobley and Mary Coleman.
She is survived by eight sons, Jerry L. Lyons of Richmond, Calif., Jerry L. Lyons of Pascagoula and Robert Lee Lyons Mobley, Jim Lyons Jr., Herry Lyons, Walter Lyons, Earl Lyons and Johnny Lyons, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Lucinda McDonald of Vicksburg and Millicent Major of Aurora, Ill.; and friends and other relatives, including her grandson and caretaker, Steve Lyons.

Joe Noe Jr.
CLARKSDALE — Joe Noe Jr., 76, a farmer, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Kosciusko Veterans Home.
Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Thursday with rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Clarksdale. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at the church with burial at Oakridge cemetery.
Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale is handling the arrangements.
He also leaves many nieces and nephews and friends who fondly referred to him as “Uncle Joe.”
He was a Navy veteran and proudly served his country.
He loved his God and his church and was involved in many ways. For many years, he was an usher and choir member, was involved in the St. Elizabeth Parish Fair, was past president of the Parish Council and worked on the church building committee, the school building committee and many benefit projects.
He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was active in the community as well, having served on the Board of Covenant Bank and instrumented its formation. He was a board member of North Delta Compress and the Farm Bureau and was an FSA committee member.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Noe Sr. and Margie Mangialardi Noe; and three sisters, Louise Noe Rauch, Rosalie Noe Jackson and Marie Noe Walton.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Bobby Jean Balducci Noe of Clarksdale; son, Joe Noe III (Robin) of Clarksdale; three daughters, Angela Kestenbaum (Pete) of Madison, Reneé Turner (Mike) of Vicksburg and Judith Martin (Russell) of Greenwood; brother, Richard Noe of Clarksdale; six sisters, Helen Noe Tuminello, Elizabeth Noe Malatesta, Ramona Noe Young and Agnes Noe Sherman, all of Clarksdale, Gloria Noe Stewart of Batesville and Nancy Noe Frazier of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Peter Vincent, Sara Jean Turner, Clara Grace Turner, Clayton Martin, Camryn Kestenbaum, Joseph Noe, Robert Noe and Caroline Noe.
Memorials may be sent to St. Elizabeth Catholic School, Clarksdale, MS or the Alzheimer’s Association, Mississippi Chapter, Jackson, MS.
