Perry Jean Austin
ROLLING FORK — Perry Jean Austin, formerly of Rolling Fork, died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at her home in Chicago. She was 62.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Guiding Star M.B. Church in Cary with Pastor Timothy Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Green Chapel cemetery in Rolling Fork. Visitation will be from 4 until 5 tonight at Walker Funeral Home in Rolling Fork.

Dorothy Jean Williams Flowers
ROLLING FORK — Dorothy Jean Williams Flowers, 77, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, in Greenwood.
Mrs. Flowers was born icon in Hollandale on Feb. 6, 1932, to the late A.T. and Beulah Mae Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar A. Flowers.
Mrs. Flowers was a retired day-care operator. She loved her family, her church and flower gardening.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Eddie (Angie) Flowers of Greenwood, Richard (Jennifer) Flowers of Huntsville, Texas, Rodney “Boo” (Nancy) Flowers of Pontotoc and Michael (Diane) Flowers of Tupelo; a sister, Glynn Smith and husband Robert; grandchildren, Kimberly Hooker, Allen Flowers, Julie Flowers, Meagan Rae Mitchell, Mary Britton Mitchell, Jay Mitchell, Leslie Wiggins, Meghan Flowers, Chad Flowers, Reid Flowers, Emily Flowers, Truett Flowers, Kaitlin Flowers and Eli Flowers; and great-grandchildren, Win Hooker, Anna Margaret Hooker, Belton Walker, Elliott Flowers and Logue Flowers.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Mound cemetery in Rolling Fork under the direction of
Glenwood Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.
Pallbearers will be Allen Flowers, Chad Flowers, Truett Flowers, Reid Flowers, Jay Mitchell and Ed Hooker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmie Dick Carter, Lawrence Carter, Ike Collins, Jimmy Walker, John Abney, Robert McAffey, Thad Virden, Dr. Danny Jackson, Dr. Henry Flautt and Dr. Aca Bennett with special recognition to the many children that Mrs. Flowers kept in her home throughout the years who blessed her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baptist Children’s Village, P.O. Box 27, Clinton, MS 39060-0027 or to First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork.

Bobbie Johnson Walker-Young
PORT GIBSON — Bobbie Johnson Walker-Young died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at her home. She was 61.
Mrs. Young was a graduate of Jackson State University. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served as organist and choir president and was a member of the Pace Setters Club. She was a member and worthy matron of Port Heron Chapter 166A of Eastern Stars, vice president of Alcorn alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha Johnson; and a granddaughter, Dierra J. Young.
Survivors include her husband, Lee Curtis Young of Port Gibson; a son, Charlie Walker Jr. of Jackson; three daughters, LeCourtney Harness of Baton Rogue, LaTasha Young of Port Gibson and LaNetrice Harper of Jackson; two stepsons, LaKarl Young of Los Angeles and Myron Young of Fayette; two brothers, Andrew Johnson and Eddie Lee Johnson, both of Pattison; three sisters, Gertrude Johnson of Jackson, Sherrie Maxine Walker of London, England, and Lillie Wells of Pattison; 13 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at A.W. Watson Elementary School Gymnasium in Port Gibson with the Rev. James Dorsey, officiating. Burial will follow at the Pattison Community cemetery in Pattison. Visitation will be today from 1 until 3 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson. The Eastern Star Ritual will be from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m., an Omega Omega Ceremony by Alcorn alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. and family hour from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m., all at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson. Visitation is Saturday from noon until the hour of the service at the school.

Lee Anna Wells
Lee Anna Wells died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at River Region Medical Center. She was 80.
Mrs. Wells was born icon in Claiborne County. She was a retired cook who had worked at Maxwell’s Restaurant, and was of the Church of Christ faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, D.C. and Carrie Thomas James; husband, Willie Wells Sr.; a son, Lamon Wells; and four sisters, Alberta James, Mattie James Daniels, Goldie James and Irene J. Strong.
She is survived by two sons, Willie Wells Jr. of Vicksburg and Lorenzo Dan Wells of Los Angeles; four daughters, Daisy Wells, Delores Wells Tate and Mildred Wells, all of Vicksburg, and Gracie J. Holmes of Detroit; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Fielding D. Tucker
NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Fielding D. Tucker, 84, of Natchez, who passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Natchez Community Hospital will be at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidalia, La., with Father George Pookkattu officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill cemetery in Vicksburg under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 until services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Fielding was born icon April 28, 1925, in Vicksburg, the son of Henry Thomas Tucker and Katherine Butler Tucker. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 18 and served two enlistments and was a recipient of the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, a Presidential Citation for the Battle of the Bulge and other decorations. Fielding was first stationed in Africa, where he trained for the invasion of Italy. He then deployed to Italy with the 7th Army, and participated in the liberation of Rome and numerous other battles before deploying to France and participating in the D-Day invasion, Battle of the Bulge and battles throughout many villages of France.
During numerous returns to the Alsace region of France, Fielding rekindled friendships with WWII French veterans and relatives of veterans and worked with them to dedicate monuments to American soldiers who lost their lives during the liberation of France.
World War II Veteran Fielding Tucker was recently named “Chevalier” (Knight) of the Legion of Honor by the President of France. The Legion d’honneur is a French order established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 to acknowledge services rendered by persons of great merit. The Order is highest decoration in France.
Fielding made numerous contributions to literary organizations to honor memories of World War II comrades. “Promise Made-Promise Kept, ” one of several Fielding Tucker World War II memoirs, is featured on the CNN sponsored Web site memoriesofwar.com. Fielding provided his memoirs of World War II to HBO for use in connection with the Band of Brothers Living Memorial and also provided World War II letters signed with his nickname “Snippy” for inclusion in “World War II Letters, ” a book being edited for Walter Cronkite.
Fielding retired as Production Superintendent of Natchez Democrat after 32 years of service. He was a devout member of Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidalia.
He and his war records and honors had been featured numerous times in The Vicksburg Post.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Theresa Tucker; very special friend, Helen Roberts; one brother, Butler Tucker; one sister, Tee Roberts; and one great-grandchild, John Casey Ashley.
Survivors include one sister, Elsie Hossley of Vicksburg; five daughters, Kathy D’Antoni and husband Paul, and Mary Ann Eagle, all of Lake Charles, La., Diana Hinson, Becky Ferguson and husband Jeff, all of Vidalia, and Janie Reyes and husband Roy of Ferriday, La.; three sons, Tony Tucker and wife Mary Kay of Lake Charles, Ed Tucker and wife Marie of Natchez and Danny Tucker and wife Donna of Pollock, La.; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David D’Antoni, Stephen Tucker, Roy Reyes, Michael Ferguson, Philip Tucker, Anthony Tucker and Brandon Eagle.
Honorary pallbearers are Brian Tucker, Jeffrey Ferguson, Levi Reyes, Joseph Tucker, John D’Antoni and Ryan Eagle.

William Percy Price
KELSO, Wash. — William Percy Price died Monday, July 27, 2009. He was 81.
Mr. Price was born icon in Utica. He attended public school in Utica and served in the military in Germany after World War II. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University.
Survivors include his wife, Corine Price; two sons, Gregory and Bradley; a daughter, Joslyn; two sisters, Josie Smith of Vicksburg and Mary La Belle Weaver of Utica; and a brother, Don Price of Utica.
A memorial service will be later.

Ida Bell Tollliver
Services for Ida Bell Tolliver will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Redden Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Tolliver of Vicksburg died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at River Region Medical Center. She was 63.

Troyce E. Guice
(November 1, 1932 - March 29, 2008)
Troyce Eual Guice, 75, a retired businessman, died Saturday at the Natchez Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Guice was born icon in St. Joseph, La., graduated from Joseph Moore Davidson High School and attended Mississippi Southern University. He moved to the Miss-Lou area in 1954, opening Guice Buick in Ferriday. In 1958 he moved to Wisner opening Guice Chevrolet and in 1959 returned to the Miss-Lou area and opened Guice Chevrolet in Ferriday. In 1961 he purchased his first farm starting Guice Farms, which expanded to farms in five states. He returned to the automobile business in 1991 opening Guice Chevrolet in Winnsboro. Troyce was the owner of T. G. Ribs and The Natchez Landing in Natchez and Baton Rouge. He was a former member of the Louisiana Cattleman's Association and served on the Louisiana Levee Board, the Mississippi River Bridge Commission, and the National Guard. Troyce was a member of the First Baptist Church in Natchez.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda McLaurin Guice of Natchez; three daughters, Carroll Smith of Germantown, Tenn.; Kimberly Morrow of Opelousas, La.; and Anne McDaniel and husband Patrick McDaniel of Natchez; and a son, Wes Guice of Natchez; seven grandchildren, Michelle Pry or and husband Stephen Pry or of Dallas, Texas; Matthew Headley of Oxford, Miss; Allison Morrow and William Morrow of Opelousas, La.; Troyce McDaniel of Tampa, Fl. And Catherine McDaniel of Natchez; and Mary Virginia Guice of Opelousas, La; two great grandchildren, Jake and Eliza Pry or of Dallas, Texas; sisters Faye Gordin of Crystal Springs, Miss.; Elaine Andrews and husband Shug Andrews of Longview, Texas; and Linda Rachelle and husband Dave Rachelle of Patterson, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tressie Westbrook Guice and his father, Ivy Eual Guice of Vidalia, La.
Honorary pallbearers are Faye Bouie Etheridge, Fred Gast, Claude Langston, Johnny Loomis, Charlie Montgomery, Jerry Quave, and Vic Vegas. Pallbearers are Matt Headley, Troyce McDaniel, William Morrow, Stephen Pryor, Tommy Dennig, David Donnell, Ricky Donnell, and Ray Routon, Jr.
Visitation is today at Laird Funeral Home from 1:00pm until the time of service . Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm at Laird Funeral home Union Street Chapel with Rev. Dan Wynn and Rev. Clyde Ray Webber officiating. Burial will follow at the Natchez City cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mildred Lane Lusinger
MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Mildred Lane Lusinger died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center. She was 81.
Mrs. Lusinger was formerly of Vicksburg. She was a member of Cherry Street Methodist Church in Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Joesph Lusinger; parents, George and Myrtis Lane; and two brothers, George Lane Jr. and William Edgar Lane.
Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Nydia McNall of Denver; two sons, Gary Lane Lusinger of Baton Rouge and John Randolph Lusinger of Maryville; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A private service will be later in Vicksburg. Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army and online at www.salvationarmyusa.org.
Miller Funeral Home of Maryville has charge of arrangements.

James Edward Johnson
CONWAY, Ark. — Services for James Edward Johnson will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church in Vicksburg. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson died Monday, July 27, 2009, at Conway Regional Hospital. He was 39.
He had worked with the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System in Little Rock and was a graduate of Vicksburg High School and Jackson State University. He was a member of Pleasant Branch Baptist Church in Conway and had served in the U.S. Army.

Frederick Harris
Frederick “Fred” Harris, age 47, died at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson on Sunday, July 26.
born May 5, 1962, in Vicksburg to Willie Harris Jr. and Rosie Enochs Harris, Fred attended fabled basketball powerhouse Vicksburg High where he was a standout athlete. During his senior year, 1980, his on-the-court prowess helped lead his team to a stunning 40-5 record while capturing the District 6, State AA, Delta Big 8 and overall state championship titles. He was named to the All-County, All-South State and All-State tournament teams.
Highly regarded and heavily recruited, Fred signed a basketball scholarship with Jackson State University, fulfilling a childhood dream of becoming a Blue Bengal Tiger and playing for legendary Coach Paul Covington. At JSU, Fred excelled on the court and in the classroom as a true student athlete, amassing three-year letterman and Scholar Athlete honors in both 1983 and 1984.
Upon graduation with the bachelor’s degree in physical education, he worked as a graduate assistant coach at JSU before taking over in 1989 as head basketball coach at Jackson Public Schools’ Jim Hill High. The 2009-2010 basketball season would have been his 20th, thus earning him the nickname “the Dean of JPS Coaches” in reference to his status as the longest tenured coach among his active counterparts.
At Jim Hill, Fred quickly made his mark with players, students and peers, working tirelessly to build the Tigers into one of the most widely respected programs in Mississippi. His teams were known for being well-prepared and hardworking on the court, resulting in a 325-254 record over 19 years. Along the way, Fred’s Tigers played in five state tournaments (1999, 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2009). His 2004-05 squad won the South MS 4A Champion and was the overall 4A state finals runner-up, finishing with a 24-12 record. Eleven of his former players have signed NCAA Division 1 scholarships.
Known as a strict disciplinarian and defensive-minded coach, Fred was named District VI Coach of the Year in both 2004 and 2005. He was selected South All-Stars coach for the Mississippi High School All-Star Basketball game in 2005. He was a father figure and role model to his players, and he was wholly committed to them and their academic and athletic success. In 1999, Fred was named “star teacher” at Jim Hill after being nominated by one of his players who went on to earn a law degree from the University of Texas. In keeping with his commitment to academic excellence, Fred earned the master’s degree in educational leadership from Mississippi College in 2005.
In addition to serving as head basketball coach at Jim Hill since 1989, Fred was assistant principal for the last five years. He was a member of Cedar Grove M.B. Church in Vicksburg, which he joined as a young child, and regularly worshipped with his family at College Hill M.B. Church in Jackson. For 12 years, he was a Jackson reserve police officer. He was also a member of the Mississippi Association of Coaches as well as Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Areda R. Cockrell-Harris, whom he wed on Nov. 28, 1998; and four children, Bracey Shalese 17, Morgan Ashleigh 9, Cole Frederick 7, and Madison Alline 17 months; his parents, Willie Harris Jr. and Rosie Enochs Harris of Vicksburg; two brothers, Reginald (Emma) Harris and Terry (Sharon) Harris, of Jackson; and legions of other relatives, current and former students and players, colleagues, and friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1 at New Jerusalem Church-North, 5708 Old Canton Road in Jackson, with burial immediately following at Autumn Woods cemetery on West Northside Drive in Jackson. Public visitation and viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 3580 Robinson Road in Jackson, followed by a family and friends hour from 6 to 7:30 p.m., also at Westhaven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Fred Harris Children’s Education Fund are welcome and may be made at any branch of BankPlus, c, o Areda Cockrell-Harris for the children of Fred Harris.
