WILSON
Helen Ekes Wilson, 73 of Vancleave, Miss., died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Ocean Springs, Miss. Mrs. Wilson was a native of Laurel, Miss. She was a 1950 graduate of University of Southern Mississippi. She interned at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, Charlotte, N.C., Veterans Administrations in Jackson, Miss., Columbia, S.C., and Augusta, Ga., and Jones County Community Hospital where she retired as head dietitian after 20 years of service. Mrs. Wilson was a consultant at Ellisville State School, then retired to her home in Vancleave. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Mary Lee Ekes.
Survivors include her husband, William Henry Wilson of Vancleave; two sons, Collier Wilson of Biloxi, Miss., Kelly Wilson of Vancleave; two sisters, Mary Jacqueline Meyers of Laurel, and Carol Smith of Laurel.
Memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, August 8, at St. Pierre Episcopal Church in Gautier, followed by a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. at Biloxi National cemetery
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

LOWERY
Grace Louise Covington Lowery, 88, passed away Aug. 1, 2002, at Trinity Healthcare Center. Mrs. Lowery was born icon Nov. 4, 1913, in Hiwanee, Miss., to the late William D. and Willie Bernetta Jones Covington.
She lived in Pascagoula, Miss., for 45 years where she was a homemaker and active member of Eastlawn Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Francis Lowery, as well as her six sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include her son, Francis Michael Lowery of Columbus, Miss.; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Lowery Harper and Ron Harper of Columbus; three granddaughters, Jessica Harper Moore, Lindsay Harper and Alicia Harper, all of Columbus, Miss.; several nieces and nephews.
Services are to be held Sunday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m., at Freeman Funeral Home in Waynesboro, Miss., with the Rev. Ronald Finch officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Waynesboro cemetery.

STEPHENS
MRS. VERSIE VERA STEPHENS, 93 of Gautier, Miss., died Aug. 2, 2002, at River Chase Village Nursing Home. Arrangements by Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Laurel, Miss.

WORRELL
Mrs. Linda Worrell, a native of Mobile, Ala. and a resident of Lucedale, Miss. died on Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Lucedale, Miss.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. Billy Worrell of Lucedale, Miss.; daughters Rebecca (Bill) Mayes of Arkansas, Tonia English of Mobile, Ala; sister, Joann Boutwell of Mobile, Ala.; brothers, Ramon E. Foskitt and John M. Foskitt both of Mobile, Ala., and Clarence D. Foskitt of Lucedale, Miss.; 12 grandchildren (one she raised as her own David "Red" English), aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated from St. Lucy Catholic Church in Lucedale Today at 10 a.m.
Funeral arrangements are by Pine Crest Funeral Home, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Ala.

BISHOP
Sarah Lela Bishop, 104, of Pascagoula, Miss., died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 in Pascagoula. She was born icon in Kokomo, Miss., on Feb. 28, 1898.
She was a lifelong resident of Pascagoula, and a member of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and assisted for many years at the election polls.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore A. Bishop; a son, Eley Bishop; parents, John and Sally Pittman; a daughter-in-law, Merilyn Bishop; two grandchildren; two brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include two sons, John T. Bishop of Mobile, Ala., and Charles M. (Marian) Bishop of Pascagoula; two sisters, Beulah Miley and Velma Seal, both of Bogaloosa, La.; one brother, Wilton Pittman, also of Bogaloosa, La.; daughter-in-law, Edna Bishop of Pascagoula; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula, with Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 2, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Pascagoula, with Father Scott as celebrant of the mass.
Interment will be in Machpelah cemetery, Pascagoula.

HENDON
Joseph Destin Hendon, 22, of Lucedale, Miss., born icon May 26, 1980, died July 30, 2002, at USA Medical Center. Mr. Hendon was a 2000 George County High School graduate. He was employed with Overland Contractors, Atlanta, Ga. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, Lucedale. Destin loved the outdoors where he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed most of his time with his friends and family. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph Howard Hendon, Sr., James Lowell Johnson, and Donald Warner Dunn; and cousin, Yolanda Michelle Boren.
He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Carma Hendon, Vancleave, Miss., Wayne and Catherine Johnson, Lucedale; grandparents, Bobby and Lois Wilson, Lucedale, Nora Virginia Johnson, Gautier, Miss., Rachel Hendon, Laurel, Miss., George and Peggy Goff, Moss Point, Miss.; six sisters, Kimberly Hall, Lucedale, Raina Harris, Moss Point, Jessica Ridgeway, Moss Point, Shiree Johnson, Lucedale, Virginia E. Johnson, Lucedale, and Jamie Gravely, Douglasville, Ga.; two brothers, Hayden and Bailee Hendon, Vancleave; one brother-in-law, Shannon Hall, Lucedale; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends. Also survived by Destin was a very special friend, John Fuqua.
Pallbearers are Shannon Hall, Chris Hyatt, Tommy Clark, Jesse Radcliff, Clayton Rushing, John Fuqua, Keith Hembree and Buffard Havard. Honorary Pallbearers are Ray Fallon, Denny and Bo Spence, Joey and Robby Gambrell, Josh Rushing, Matt Reeves and Rusty Franklin.
Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Jackson County Funeral Services in Escatawpa.
Funeral service will be Saturday, Aug. 3, at 3 p.m., from the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be in Griffin cemetery, Moss Point, Miss.

MCNEIL
Mrs. Virgie Lee McNeil was born icon on April 13, 1913, to Henry and Betty Wheeler McCullum. She was called home to be with the Lord on July 29, 2002. She was the last surviving child of the McCullum family.
She is preceded in death by her husband Kernie E. McNeil; two brothers; six sisters; and her parents.
During her life she was a beautician. She was a faithful member of The Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church since 1944. She was a member of the choir until her health failed.
Virgie leaves to cherish her memories, a devoted son and daughter-in-law and caregiver, Calvin and Modesta McNeil; four grandsons, Kernie (Tracie) McNeil, Anthony (Brenda) McNeil, Thadis McNeil and Percy Jackson; six granddaughters, Virgie McNeil, Colette Hodge, Carolyn McNeil, Aurelia McNeil, Ardelia (Lamar) Gibson, and Claudine Winston; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, relatives and friends. She was a mother and grandmother to a host of children.
Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. John W. Davis officiating. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Gabriel cemetery, Pascagoula.

WALTMAN
Doris Mae Waltman, 66, of Pascagoula, Miss., died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Pascagoula. She was born icon February 3, 1936, in Harrison County, Miss. Mrs. Waltman was a homemaker and member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Irma Sims Smith; father and mother-in-law, Lester Wesley and Myrtle Stone Waltman; a nephew, Guy-Guy Smith.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Mr. Dallas Waltman of Pascagoula; three daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Ricky Conerly and Deanna and Rusty Comeaux, all of Pascagoula, Debbie and Tim Terrell of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Eddie and Lynda Smith of Gautier, Guy Smith of Conroe, Texas, Jeannie Fye of Ocean Springs; eight grandchildren, Nikki, Dusti, Brooke and Amber Comeaux, Dallas and Austin Conerly, Keith and Abby Terrell; two great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Comeaux and Leighton Anderson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 1, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Pascagoula.
Funeral service will be Friday, August 2, at 11 a.m., from the church with the Rev. John Arbogast officiating. A one hour visitation will be held prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Machpelah cemetery in Pascagoula.
Pallbearers will be Matt Stone, Randy Grierson, Donny Hughes, Craig Nelson, Floyd Comeaux, Bud Broome and Melvin Whitfield.
She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by everyone. God has truly received a wonderful angel. We love you mama.

CHRISTOPHER
Thomas G. Christopher of Moss Point, Miss., died July 29, 2002, in Pascagoula, Miss. He was born icon in Lancaster County, Virginia. Mr. Christopher was a member of Dantzler Memorial United Methodist Church. He retired as manager of Ampro Fisheries and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas W. and Edith C. Christopher; and two brothers, William C. Christopher and James C. Christopher.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Reynolds Christopher of Moss Point; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. (Chris) and Cathye Christopher of Lafayette, Louisiana; daughters and sons-in-law, Dixie and Steve DeLooze of Kimberly, Wisconsin, Vicki and Thomas Hudson of Holly Pond, Alabama; brother, John C. Christopher of Irvington, Virginia; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 31, from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, August 1, at 10 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Fred Britton and the Rev. Charlotte Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow at Griffin cemetery in Moss Point with military honors.

GILL
Carl Edward Gill, 81, of Helena, Miss., died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Pascagoula, Miss. He was born icon January 18, 1921, an active member of the Community of Christ Church where he served as a High Priest. Mr. Gill served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel Mizell Gill.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Mrs. Lavon B. Gill of Helena; daughter and son-in-law, Betty Gill Walker (Ronnie) of Mobile, Ala.; brothers, Clinton Gill of Escatawpa, Adolph Gill of Premont, Texas, and Alred Gill of Panama City, Fla.; granddaughter and husband, Karen Patano Lakeman (Kenny) of Mobile, Ala., great-grandson Tyler Michael of Mobile, Ala., two step-daughters and their husbands, Laverne and John Dickens, and Mary and Lenard Harris, all of Helena; grandchildren, Lori and Alan Winter, Marian Lynn Harris, Paula and Dan Taylor, John and Nicole Stringer, Amanda and Lovell Williams, and Lee Holloman; great-grandchildren, Kristen, Ashley, Rachel, and Clayton Winter, Chelse Harris, Travis and Zachary Taylor, Gavin and Brook Lee Stringer, Brandi and Melissa Williams; special friend, Lavoy Hart of Forts Lake; Karen's father, Michael Patano of Biloxi; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 31, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 1, at 11 a.m., from the Community of Christ Church in Escatawpa (formerly the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) with High Priest Donald Hamm, High Priest Richard Miller, and the Rev. Lavoy Hart officiating. There will be a one hour visitation in the church prior to service time.
Interment will follow in the Reorganized Latter Day Saints cemetery in Escatawpa.
Pallbearers will be the priesthood of the Community of Christ Church.
